In the framework of supersymmetric Grand Unified Theories, the minimal Higgs sector is often extended by introducing multi-dimensional Higgs representations in order to obtain realistic models. However these constructions should remain anomaly-free, which constraints significantly their structure. We review the necessary conditions for the cancellation of anomalies in general and discuss in detail the different possibilities for SUSY SU(5) models. Alternative anomaly free combinations of Higgs representations, beyond the usual vector-like choice, are identified, and it is shown that their corresponding beta functions are not equivalent. Although the unification of gauge couplings is not affected, the introduction of multi-dimensional representations leads to different scenarios for the perturbative validity of the theory up to the Planck scale.

Leptoquarks have been proposed as a possible explanation of anomalies in $\bar{B}\mapsto D^{*} τ\bar{ν} $ decays, the apparent anomalies in $(g-2)_μ$ experiments and a violation of lepton universality. Motivated by this, we examine other motivations of leptoquarks: radiatively induced neutrino masses in the presence of a discrete symmetry that prevents a tree level see-saw mechanism, gauge coupling unification, and vacuum stability at least up to the unification scale. We present a new model for radiatively generating a neutrino mass which can significantly improve gauge coupling unification a…
There is a unique $SU(4) \otimes SU(2)_L \otimes SU(2)_R$ gauge model which allows quarks and leptons to be unified at the TeV scale. It is already known that the neutrino masses arise radiatively in the model and are naturally light. We study the atmospheric, solar and LSND neutrino anomalies within the framework of this model.
The possibilities of global (non-perturbative) gauge anomalies for a class of gauge groups are investigated. Intimately connected to branching rules and topological aspect of gauge groups, the results are applied to the study of unification gauge groups such as SO(10), SU(5), $E_6$, $E_8$ etc. Especially, we discuss extensively about the selection rule for generation numbers $N_f+N_{mf}=even\ge 4$ in SO(10) and supersymmetric SO(10) unification theories as originally proposed by the author$^1$, where $N_f$ and $N_{mf}$ denote the generation numbers for ordinary fermions and mirror fermions res…
Motivated by the $R_{D^{(*)}}$ anomalies, we investigate an $\mathrm{SO}(10)$ grand unification scenario where a charge $-1/3$ scalar leptoquark ($S_1$) remains as the only new physics candidate at the TeV scale. This leptoquark along with the Standard Model (SM) Higgs doublet originates from the same 10-dimensional real scalar multiplet in the $\mathrm{SO}(10)$ grand unification framework taking its mass close to the electroweak scale. We explicitly show how the gauge coupling unification is achieved with only one intermediate symmetry-breaking scale at which the Pati-Salam gauge group is bro…
We study the predictions for M_top, tan(beta) and V_cb in a popular texture ansatze for the fermion mass matrices. We do this both for the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and for the simplest model (MSSM-BRpV) where a bilinear R-Parity violating term is added to the superpotential. We find that taking the experimental values for M_top and V_cb at 99 % C.L. and the GUT relations h_b=h_tau and (V_cb)^2=h_c/h_t within 5 %, the large tan(beta) solution, characteristic in the MSSM with bottom--tau unification, becomes disallowed. In contrast the corresponding allowed region for the MSS…
With the recent experimental hint of new physics from flavor physics anomalies, combined with the evidence from neutrino mass and dark matter, we consider a minimal extension of SM with a scalar leptoquark and a fermion triplet. The scalar leptoquark with couplings to leptons and quarks can explain lepton flavor non-universality observables $R_K$, $R_{K^{(*)}}$, $R_{D^{(*)}}$ and $R_{J/ψ}$. Neutral component of fermion triplet provides current abundance of dark matter in the Universe. The interesting feature of the proposal is that the minimal addition of these phenomenologically rich particle…
In the context of the Grand Unified MSSM, we investigate the fermion mass matrices at GUT scale. We note that from the experimental mass pattern the determinants of the Yukawa matrices at this scale can be unified with good precision. Taking the unification o determinants as an hypothesis, it gives two model independent predictions that in the MSSM turns out to determine an appropriate value for the product m_d m_s and tan(beta)~7-10 in the favored range. We then review a predictive model of SU(3) flavour in the context of supersymmetric SO(10) that nicely implements this mechanism, while expl…
The anomaly of a discrete symmetry is defined as the Jacobian of the path-integral measure. Assuming that the anomaly at low energies is cancelled by the Green-Schwarz (GS) mechanism at a fundamental scale, we investigate possible Kac-Moody levels for anomalous discrete family symmetries. As the first example, we consider discrete abelian baryon number and lepton number symmetries in the minimal supersymmetric standard model with the see-saw mechanism, and we find that the ordinary unification of gauge couplings is inconsistent with the GS conditions, indicating the possible existence of furth…
We show that one can explain the neutral and charged anomalies in B-meson decays in the minimal theory for quark-lepton unification. The implications for flavor violating processes are discussed in detail. Strikingly, experimental observations suggest that the unification of quarks and leptons could be realized below the ${\cal O}(10^2)$ TeV scale.
The two-loop ``top-down'' renormalization group flow for the top, bottom and tau Yukawa couplings is explored in the framework of supersymmetric grand unification; reproduction of the physical bottom and tau masses is required. Instead of following the recent trend of implementing exact Yukawa coupling unification i) a search for infrared (IR) fixed lines and fixed points in the m(top)-tan(beta) plane is performed and ii) the extent to which these imply approximate Yukawa unification is determined. Two IR fixed lines, intersecting in an IR fixed point, are located. The more attractive fixed li…
We make a number of small changes, including correcting an error in our heavy-neutrino decay rate. None of our analysis is changed, either in substance or detail.
Grand Unified Theories predict relationships between the GUT-scale quark and lepton masses. Using new data in the context of the MSSM, we update the values and uncertainties of the masses and mixing angles for the three generations at the GUT scale. We also update fits to hierarchical patterns in the GUT-scale Yukawa matrices. The new data shows not all the classic GUT-scale mass relationships remain in quantitative agreement at small to moderate tan beta. However, at large tan beta, these discrepancies can be eliminated by finite, tan beta-enhanced, radiative, threshold corrections if the glu…
The possibility of incorporating a chiral fourth generation into a SUSY-GUT is investigated. Precision fits to electroweak observables require us to introduce light supersymmetric particles, with masses less than mZ. These particles might also provide decay channels for fourth generation quarks of mass ~ 100 GeV. We also require tan(beta) to lie in the range 1.50 <~ tan(beta) <~ 1.75 and obtain an upper limit on the lightest Higgs boson mass in the MSSM4 of 152 GeV.
We discuss the minimal theory for quark-lepton unification at the low scale. In this context, the quarks and leptons are unified in the same representations and neutrino masses are generated through the inverse seesaw mechanism. The properties of the leptoquarks predicted in this theory are discussed in detail and we investigate the predictions for the leptonic and semi-leptonic decays of mesons. We study the possibility to explain the current value of $\mathcal{R}_K$ reported by the LHCb collaboration and the value of the muon anomalous magnetic moment reported by the Muon $g-2$ experiment at…
Predictions for m_t, tan beta, m_nu_tau are calculated for quadruple third family t-b-tau-nu_tau Yukawa unified models in the MSSM. The renormalisation group equations for the 3 families of the MSSM, including the right handed neutrino, are presented. For right handed tau neutrino Majorana masses that are bigger than 10^11 GeV, the tau neutrino mass is consistent with present cosmological bounds. The m_t, tan beta predictions are approximately equivalent to those in triple third family Yukawa unified models.
We examine gauge and Yukawa coupling unification in models with gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking. We work consistently to two-loop order, and include all weak, messenger and unification-scale threshold corrections. We find that successful unification requires unification-scale threshold corrections that are in conflict with the minimal SU(5) model, but are consistent with the modified missing doublet SU(5) model for small tan beta, and large tan beta with mu>0.
Higher-dimensional models of grand unification allow us to relate the top Yukawa coupling y_t to the gauge coupling g. The tree level relation y_t=g at the scale of grand unification implies, in the framework of the MSSM, a rather small ratio of Higgs expectation values tan beta. We find that, in the presence of localized Fayet-Iliopoulos terms, y_t is suppressed against g because the bulk fields acquire non-trivial profiles whose overlap is smaller than in the case of flat profiles. This increases the prediction for tan beta to moderately large values. Thus tan beta is related to the geometry…
We analyse hypercharge flux GUT breaking in F-theory/Type IIB GUT models with regards to its implications for anomaly cancellation and gauge coupling unification. To this aim we exploit the Type IIB limit and consider 7-brane configurations that for the first time are guaranteed to exhibit net hypercharge flux restriction to matter curves. We show that local F-theory models with anomalies of type U(1)_Y-U(1)^2 in the massless spectrum can be consistent only if such additional U(1)s are globally geometrically massive (in the sense that they arise from non-Kahler deformations of the Calabi-Yau f…
Supersymmetric Grand Unification usually provides unification of the bottom quark and the tau lepton Yukawa couplings at the GUT scale. In the CMSSM this can be realised only for a very particular choice of parameters. In this letter we study the GUT scale ratio y_tau/y_b for less peculiar parameters in the large tan beta regime and identify one parameter region preferred by current experimental data. In this region, which is well within the reach of the LHC, the ratio is very close to the recently proposed value of 3/2.
We present a supersymmetric SU(5) x U(1)_H model, free from gauge anomalies, where the Abelian factor U(1)_H, introduced to account for the hierarchy of fermion masses and mixings, is broken by the same adjoint representations of SU(5) that also break the GUT symmetry. The model predicts approximate, but never exact, bottom-tau Yukawa unification. The deviations are related to group theoretical coefficients and can naturally be at the level of 10%-20%.
A possibility of 5D gauge unification of $SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y$ in $SU(3)_W$ is examined. The orbifold compactification allows fixed points where $SU(2)_L\times U(1)_Y$ representations can be assigned. We present a few possibilities which give long proton lifetime, top-bottom mass hierarchy from geometry, and reasonable neutrino masses. In general, these {\it chiral models} can lead to fixed point anomalies. We can show easily, due to the simplicity of the model, that these anomalies are cancelled by the relevant Chern-Simons terms for all the models we consider. It is also shown that the fix…
Under the assumption that all the gauge groups in supersymmetric theories unify at the fundamental scale, the numbers and the mass scales of messenger quarks and leptons, as well as the beta-function coefficient of the sector for dynamical supersymmetry breaking are constrained depending on various gauge mediation mechanisms. For this, we use one-loop renormalization group equations and draw constraints on the scales in each gauge mediation model.
We identify a class of supersymmetric SU(4)_c x SU(2)_L x SU(2)_R models in which imposing essentially perfect t-b-tau Yukawa coupling unification at M_GUT yields a mass close to 122-126 GeV for the lightest CP-even (SM-like) Higgs boson. The squark and gluino masses in these models exceed 3 TeV, but the stau and charginos in some cases can be considerably lighter. We display some benchmark points corresponding to neutralino-stau and bino-wino coannihilations as well as A-resonance. The well-known MSSM parameter tan beta is around 46-52.
We investigate the phase space of parameters in the Pati-Salam model derived in the context of D-branes scenarios, requiring low energy string scale. We find that a non-supersymmetric version complies with a string scale as low as 10 TeV, while in the supersymmetric version the string scale raises up to ~2 x 10^7 TeV. The limited energy region for RGE running demands a large tan(beta) in order to have experimentally acceptable masses for the top and bottom quarks.
In a recent paper on SU(16) grand unification, because of the presence of intermediate-energy gauge groups containing products of U(1) factors which are not orthogonal among themselves, the renormalization-group treatment has a few small errors. I correct it. I emphasize that one should not switch gauge couplings at the various thresholds. It is easier, and it avoids errors, to use throughout the gauge couplings of the standard model, and compute at each threshold, in the usual way, the extra contributions to the beta functions from the extra non-decoupled fields. I also point out that the SU(…
The constraints of gauge unification on intermediate mass scales in non-supersymmetric SO(10) scenarios are systematically discussed. With respect to the existing reference studies we include the U(1) gauge mixing renormalization at the one- and two-loop level, and reassess the two-loop beta-coefficients. We evaluate the effects of additional Higgs multiplets required at intermediate stages by a realistic mass spectrum, and update the discussion to the present day data. On the basis of the obtained results, SO(10) breaking patterns with up to two intermediate mass scales are discussed for pote…
New limits on the Higgs mass from LEP and new calculations on the radiative (penguin) decay of the b->s gamma branching ratio restrict the parameter space of the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (CMSSM). We find that for the low tan(beta) scenario only one sign of the Higgs mixing parameter is allowed, while the high tan(beta scenario is practically excluded, if one requires all sparticles to be below 1 TeV and imposes radiative electroweak symmetry breaking as well as gauge and Yukawa coupling unification. For squarks between 1 and 2 TeV high tan(beta) scenarios are allowed. …
We examine the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (CMSSM) with an additional requirement of strict b - tau unification in the region of small tan(beta). We find that the parameter space becomes completely limited below about 1 TeV by physical constraints alone, without a fine-tuning constraint. We study the resulting phenomenological consequences, and point out several ways of falsifying the adopted b - tau unification assumption. We also comment on the effect of a constraint from the non-observation of proton decay.
We present a model for third-family quark-lepton unification at the TeV scale featuring a composite Higgs sector. The model is based on a variant of the Pati-Salam model, the so-called 4321 model, consisting of the gauge group $SU(4)\times SU(3)^\prime\times SU(2)_L\times U(1)_X$. The spontaneous symmetry breaking to the SM gauge group is triggered dynamically by a QCD-like confining sector. The same strong dynamics also produces the Higgs as a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson, connecting the energy scales of both sectors. The model predicts a massive $U_1$ vector leptoquark coupled dominantly to …
We derive predictions for Yukawa coupling ratios within GUTs generated from operators with mass dimension four and five. These relations are a characteristic property of unified flavour models and can reduce the large number of free parameters related to the flavour sector of the SM. The Yukawa couplings of the down-type quarks and charged leptons are affected within SUSY models by tan beta-enhanced threshold corrections. We analyse these corrections and give simple analytic expressions and numerical estimates for them. The threshold corrections sensitively depend on the soft SUSY breaking par…
We consider a version of Left-Right Symmetric Model in which the scalar sector consists of a Higgs bidoublet ($Φ$) with $B-L=0$, Higgs doublets ($H_{L,R}$) with $B-L=1$ and a charged scalar ($δ^+$) with $B-L=2$ leading to radiatively generated Majorana masses for neutrinos and thereby, leads to new physics contributions to neutrinoless double beta decay ($0νββ$). We show that such a novel framework can be embedded in a non-SUSY $SO(10)$ GUT leading to successful gauge coupling unification at around $10^{16}$ GeV with the scale of left-right symmetry breaking around $10^{10}$ GeV. The model can…
We present a comprehensive discussion of renormalisation of 3-point functions of scalar operators in conformal field theories in general dimension. We have previously shown that conformal symmetry uniquely determines the momentum-space 3-point functions in terms of certain integrals involving a product of three Bessel functions (triple-K integrals). The triple-K integrals diverge when the dimensions of operators satisfy certain relations and we discuss how to obtain renormalised 3-point functions in all cases. There are three different types of divergences: ultralocal, semilocal and nonlocal, …
We compute the beta-functions of the standard model formulated on a noncommutative spacetime. If we assume that the scale for spacetime noncommutativity is of the order of 2.2 \times 10^{15} GeV we find that the three gauge couplings of the standard model merge at a scale of 2.3 \times 10^{17} GeV. The proton lifetime is thus much longer than in conventional unification models.
We consider the renormalisation group flow of gauge couplings within the so-called exceptional supersymmetric standard model (E$_6$SSM) based on the low energy matter content of 27 dimensional representations of the gauge group $E_6$, together with two additional non-Higgs doublets. The two--loop beta functions are computed, and the threshold corrections are studied in the E$_6$SSM. Our results show that gauge coupling unification in the E$_6$SSM can be achieved for phenomenologically acceptable values of $α_3(M_Z)$, consistent with the central measured low energy value, unlike in the minimal …
The B anomalies, by their distinctive flavour structure i.e. $U(2)^5$, bring a new piece to the long-standing flavour puzzle. The three-site flavour non-universal Pati-Salam (PS) model, which unifies quarks and leptons, provides through the ratios of vacuum expectation values (VEV) acquired at different scales, a combined explanation of the charged and neutral current B anomalies as well as of the mass hierarchies of the Standard Model (SM). The mixings, in new, flavour non-universal, gauge interactions, as well as in the Yukawa couplings, are obtained through suppressed nearest-neighbour inte…
The SU(5) unification-scale relation h_b=h_tau between the b and tau Yukawa couplings severely constrains tan beta and m_t (even more so if h_t=h_b= h_tau holds) in supersymmetric models. We examine the implications of these constraints for the Higgs sector assuming universal soft breaking terms, and emphasize that both of these relations impose unique characteristics in terms of symmetries and of the spectrum. We further study the tan beta near 1 scenario, which is suggested by h_b=h_tau, and, in particular, the loop- induced mass of the light Higgs boson. We compare the effective potential a…
The electroweak currents of quarks and leptons in the $SO(5) \times U(1)$ gauge-Higgs unification model in the Randall-Sundrum warped space are determined. The 4D gauge couplings deviate from those in the standard model and the weak universality is slightly violated. It is shown that the model is free from 4D anomalies and the deviations of the gauge couplings are tiny, less than 1% except for the top quark. The $Zt_L \bar t_L$, $Zt_R \bar t_R$, $Zb_L \bar b_L$ and $Zb_R \bar b_R$ couplings deviate from those in the standard model by -7%, 18%, 0.3% and 0.9% with the warp factor $z_L = 10^{15}$…
There have been known "exact" beta functions for the gauge coupling in N=1 supersymmetric gauge theories, the so-called NSVZ beta functions. Shifman and Vainshtein (SV) further related these beta functions to the exact 1-loop running of the "Wilsonian" gauge coupling. All these results, however, remain somewhat mysterious. We attempt to clarify these issues by presenting new perspectives on the NSVZ beta function. Our interpretation of the results is somewhat different than the one given by SV, having nothing to do with the distinction between "Wilsonian" and "1PI" effective actions. Throughou…
Recently, several $B$-physics experiments report interesting anomalies in the semi-leptonic decays of $B$-mesons, such as the excess in the $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ measurements. These anomalies seem to suggest intriguing hints of lepton flavor non-universality, and the R-parity violating (RPV) interactions are candidates for explaining this non-universality. In this paper, we discuss the RPV interactions for resolving the $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ anomaly with the Grand Unified Theory (GUT) assumption. To solve the $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ anomaly, it is known that large RPV couplings and around $1~{\rm TeV}$ sfermio…
Among the theories beyond the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics Supersymmetry (SUSY) provides an excellent dark matter (DM) candidate, the neutralino. One clear prediction of cosmology is the annihilation cross section of DM particles, assuming them to be a thermal relic from the early universe. In most of the parameter space of Supersymmetry the annihilation cross section is too small compared with the prediction of cosmology. However, for large values of the tan beta parameter the annihilation through s-channel pseudoscalar Higgs exchange yields the correct relic density in practically…
We present an extension of the Standard Model (SM) without supersymmetry, which we use to calculate order of magnitude values for the elements of the mass matrices in the SM. In our model we can fit the 9 quark and lepton masses and 3 mixing angles using only 3 free parameters, with the overall mass scale set by the electroweak interaction. The specific model described here has the anti-grand unified gauge group SMG^3 x U(1)_f at high energies where SMG = SU(3) x SU(2) x U(1) is the SM gauge group. The SM fermions are placed in representations of the full gauge group so that they do not produc…
We employ the Yukawa coupling unification condition, y_t= y_b= y_tau at M_GUT, inspired by supersymmetric SO(10) models, to estimate the lightest Higgs boson mass as well as masses of the associated squarks and gluino. We employ non-universal soft masses, dictated by SO(10) symmetry, for the gauginos. Furthermore, the soft masses for the two scalar Higgs doublets are set equal at M_GUT, and in some examples these are equal to the soft masses for scalars in the matter multiplets. For mu > 0, M_2 > 0, where M_2 denotes the SU(2) gaugino mass, essentially perfect t-b-tau Yukawa unification is pos…
While the detection of $W_R$-boson at the Large Hadron Collider is likely to resolve the mystery of parity violation in weak interaction, observation of neutrinoless double beta decay ($0νββ$) is expected to determine whether neutrinos are Majorana fermions. In this work we consider a class of LR models with TeV scale $W_R, Z_R$ bosons but having parity restoration at high scales where they originate from well known Pati-Salam symmetry or $SO(10)$ grand unified theory minimally extended to accommodate inverse seesaw frame work for neutrino masses. Most dominant new contribution to neutrinoless…
We classify and characterize all invertible anomalies and all allowed topological terms related to various Standard Models (SM), Grand Unified Theories (GUT), and Beyond Standard Model (BSM) physics. By all anomalies, we mean the inclusion of (1) perturbative/local anomalies captured by perturbative Feynman diagram loop calculations, classified by $\mathbb{Z}$ free classes, and (2) non-perturbative/global anomalies, classified by finite group $\mathbb{Z}_N$ torsion classes. Our work built from [arXiv:1812.11967] fuses the math tools of Adams spectral sequence, Thom-Madsen-Tillmann spectra, and…
Within the framework of supersymmetric grand unification, estimates of the $b$ quark mass based on the asymptotic relation $m_b \simeq m_τ$ single out the region with $\tanβ$ close to unity, particularly if $m_t(m_t) \stackrel{_<}{_\sim} 170\ GeV$. We explore the radiative breaking of the electroweak symmetry and the associated sparticle and higgs spectroscopy in models with $1 < \tanβ\stackrel{_<}{_\sim} 1.6$. The lightest scalar higgs is expected to have a mass below $100\ GeV$, while the remaining four higgs masses exceed $300\ GeV$. The lower bounds on some of the sparticle masses are with…
We investigate the possibility of generating the $μ$-term in the MSSM by the condensation of a field that is a singlet under the SM gauge group but charged under an additional family-independent $U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry. We attempt to do so while preserving the gauge coupling unification of the MSSM. For this, we find that SM non-singlet exotics must be present in the spectrum. We also prove that the pure $U(1)_X$ anomalies can always be solved with rationally charged fields, but that a large number of SM singlets are often required. For $U(1)_X$ charges that are consistent with an embedding of…
We show that the branching ratio R_{b/tau}=BR(h^0->bb)/BR(h^0->tau tau) of the Higgs boson h^0 may usefully differentiate between the Higgs sectors of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and non-supersymmetric models such as the Standard Model or its two Higgs doublet extensions. Although at tree level R_{b/tau} is the same in all these models, only in the MSSM can it receive a large radiative correction, for moderate to large values of the parameter tan(beta). Such large corrections are motivated in supersymmetric unified schemes wherein the Yukawa couplings of the b-quark and th…
The minimal supersymmetry standard model (MSSM) extended with vector-like theories have long been discussed. If we extend the vector-like MSSM theory into NMSSM and let the vector-like particles couple with the singlet (S), we find out a natural way to generate the vector-like particle masses near 1TeV through the breaking of the Z_3 group. Compared with MSSM+vectorlike models, vector-like models extended into NMSSM contain more yukawa couplings and can help us adjust the renormalization group (RG) trajectories of the gauge couplings in order to unify the intersections. They can also help pres…
We discuss ways to probe t-b-tau Yukawa coupling unification condition at the Energy and Intensity frontiers. We consider non-universal soft supersymmetry breaking mass terms for gauginos related by the SO(10) grand unified theory (GUT). We have previously shown that t-b-tau Yukawa coupling unification prefers a mass of around 125 GeV for the Standard Model-like Higgs boson with all colored sparticle masses above 3 TeV. The well-known MSSM parameter tan(beta) is about 47-48 and neutralino-stau coannihilation yields the desired relic dark matter density.
We discuss a class of left-right symmetric theories with a universal seesaw mechanism for fermion masses and mixing and the implications for neutrinoless double beta ($0νββ$) decay where neutrino masses are governed by natural type-II seesaw dominance. The scalar sector consists of left- and right-handed Higgs doublets and triplets, while the conventional Higgs bidoublet is absent in this scenario. We use the Higgs doublets to implement the left-right and the electroweak symmetry breaking. On the other hand, the Higgs triplets with induced vacuum expectation values can give Majorana masses to …
We address a question whether the recently observed Higgs mass $M_{H} = 126$ GeV, of the order of the weak scale $M_{W}$, is calculable as a finite value in the scnenario of gauge-Higgs unification. In the scenario formulated on a flat 5-dimensional space-time, the Higgs mass is calculable, being protected under the quantum correction by gauge invariance, though the predicted Higgs mass is generally too small compared with $M_{W}$. In the 6-dimensional SU(3) model, however, a suitable orbifolding is known to lead to a mass of the order of $M_{W}$: $M_{H} = 2M_{W}$ at the tree level, which has …
We review some of the main features of Bilinear R-Parity Violation (BRpV), defined by a quadratic term in the superpotential which mixes lepton and Higgs superfields and is proportional to a mass parameter epsilon. We show how large values of epsilon can induce a small neutrino mass without fine-tunning. We mention the effect on the mass of the lightest Higgs boson. Finally we report on the effect of BRpV on gauge and Yukawa unification, showing that bottom-tau unification can be achieved at any value of tan(beta).
We discuss the renormalisation of mixed 3-point functions involving tensorial and scalar operators in conformal field theories of general dimension. In previous work we analysed correlators of either purely scalar or purely tensorial operators, in each case finding new features and new complications: for scalar correlators, renormalisation leads to beta functions, novel conformal anomalies of type B, and unexpected analytic structure in momentum space; for correlators of stress tensors and/or conserved currents, beta functions vanish but anomalies of both type B and type A (associated with a $…
