Measurement of Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Rays: An Experimental Summary and Prospects

Measurements of Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Rays achieved remarkable progress in the last 10 years. Physicists, gathered from around the world in the symposium UHECR-2012 held at CERN on February 13-16 2012, reported their most up-to-date observations, discussed the meaning of their findings, and identified remaining problems and future challenges in this field. This paper is a part of the symposium proceedings on the experimental summary and future prospects of the UHECR study.

Cosmic rays: direct measurements

This paper is based on the rapporteur talk given at the 34$^{th}$ International Cosmic Ray Conference (ICRC), on August 6$^{th}$, 2015. The purpose of the talk and paper is to provide a summary of the most recent results from balloon-borne and space-based experiments presented at the conference, and give an overview of the future missions and developments foreseen in this field.

Experimental/Observational Summary - Very High Energy Cosmic Rays and their Interactions

Observations of cosmic rays have been improving at all energies, with higher statistics and reduced systematics. Fundamental questions remain regarding the origins of cosmic rays both within the Galaxy and in extragalactic sources, and new puzzles have arisen at ultra-high energies. A key issue is determining the elemental composition based on air shower measurements. Accelerator experiments at the LHC, with comprehensive measurements in the forward direction and high interaction energies, will greatly reduce the uncertainty in air shower simulations. The Radio Synchrotron Background: Conference Summary and Report

We summarize the radio synchrotron background workshop that took place July 19-21, 2017 at the University of Richmond. This first scientific meeting dedicated to the topic was convened because current measurements of the diffuse radio monopole reveal a surface brightness that is several times higher than can be straightforwardly explained by known Galactic and extragalactic sources and processes, rendering it by far the least well understood photon background at present. The 1953 Cosmic Ray Conference at Bagneres de Bigorre

The cosmic ray conference at Bagn`eres de Bigorre in July, 1953 organized by Patrick Blackett and Louis Leprince-Ringuet was a seminal one. It marked the beginning of sub atomic physics and its shift from cosmic ray research to research at the new high energy accelerators. The knowledge of the heavy unstable particles found in the cosmic rays was essentially correct in fact and interpretation and defined the experiments that needed to be carried out with the new accelerators.
