We revisit a bound on symbolic powers found by Ein-Lazarsfeld-Smith and subsequently improved by Takagi-Yoshida. We show that the original argument of Ein-Lazarsfeld-Smith actually gives the same improvement. On the other hand, we show by examples that any further improvement based on the same technique appears unlikely. This is primarily an exposition; only some examples and remarks might be new.

Perfectoid multiplier/test ideals in regular rings and bounds on symbolic powers

Using perfectoid algebras, we introduce a mixed characteristic analog of the multiplier ideal, respectively test ideal, from characteristic zero, respectively $p > 0$, in the case of a regular ambient ring. We prove several properties about this ideal such as subadditivity. We then use these techniques to derive a uniform bound on the growth of symbolic powers of radical ideals in all excellent regular rings. The analogous result was shown in equal characteristic by Ein-Lazarsfeld-Smith and Hochster-Huneke.

Geometric nullstellensatz and symbolic powers on arbitrary varieties

In recent years, a multiplier ideal defined on arbitrary varieties, so called Mather multiplier ideal, has been developed independently by Ein-Ishii-Mustata, and de Fernex-Docampo. Formulas for multiplier ideals on singular varieties

We prove a generalization of Demailly-Ein-Lazarsfeld's subadditivity formula and Mustata's summation formula for multiplier ideals to the case of singular varieties, using characteristic $p$ methods. As an application of our formula, we improve Hochster-Huneke's result on the growth of symbolic powers of ideals in singular affine algebras.

Generalized test ideals and symbolic powers

Hochster and Huneke proved in \cite{HH5} fine behaviors of symbolic powers of ideals in regular rings, using the theory of tight closure. In this paper, we use generalized test ideals, which are a characteristic $p$ analogue of multiplier ideals, to give a slight generalization of Hochster-Huneke's results.

Algorithms for Bernstein-Sato polynomials and multiplier ideals

The Bernstein-Sato polynomial (or global b-function) is an important invariant in singularity theory, which can be computed using symbolic methods in the theory of D-modules. After surveying algorithms for computing the global b-function, we develop a new method to compute the local b-function for a single polynomial. Uniform Bounds and Symbolic Powers on Smooth Varieties

We show how multiplier ideals can be used to obtain uniform multiplicative bounds for certain families of ideals on a smooth complex algebraic variety. Differentially fixed ideals in toric varieties

This article concerns monomial ideals fixed by differential operators of affine semi-group rings over $\mathbb{C}$. We give a complete characterization of when this happens. Perhaps surprisingly, every monomial ideal is fixed by an infinite set of homogeneous differential operators and is in fact determined by them. This opens up a new tool for studying monomial ideals. We explore applications of this to (mixed) multiplier ideals and other variants as well as give examples of detecting ideal membership in integrally closed powers and symbolic powers of squarefree monomial ideals.

A Vanishing Theorem and Asymptotic Regularity of Powers of Ideal Sheaves

Let $\mathscr{I}$ be an ideal sheaf on $P^n$. In the first part of this paper, we bound the asymptotic regularity of powers of $\mathscr{I}$ as $ps-3\leq \reg \mathscr{I}^p\leq ps+e$, where $e$ is a constant and $s$ is the $s$-invariant of $\mathscr{I}$. We also give the same upper bound for the asymptotic regularity of symbolic powers of $\mathscr{I}$ under some conditions. In the second part, by using multiplier ideal sheaves, we give a vanishing theorem of powers of $\mathscr{I}$ when it defines a local complete intersection subvariety with log canonical singularities.

Test ideals in rings with finitely generated anti-canonical algebras

Many results are known about test ideals and $F$-singularities for ${\bf Q}$-Gorenstein rings. In this paper we generalize many of these results to the case when the symbolic Rees algebra $O_X \oplus O_X(-K_X) \oplus O_X(-2K_X) \oplus ...$ is finitely generated (or more generally, in the log setting for $-K_X - Δ$). In particular, we show that the $F$-jumping numbers of $τ(X, a^t)$ are discrete and rational.
