Contributions of $D$ waves to physical observables for neutral pion photoproduction from the proton in the near-threshold region are studied and means to isolate them are proposed. Various approaches to describe the multipoles are employed
--a phenomenological one, a unitary one, and heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. The results of these approaches are compared and found to yield essentially the same answers. $D$ waves are seen to enter together with $S$ waves in a way that any means which attempt to obtain the $E_{0+}$ multipole accurately must rely on knowledge of $D$ waves and that consequently the latter cannot be dismissed in analyses of low-energy pion photoproduction. It is shown that $D$ waves have a significant impact on double-polarization observables that can be measured. This importance of $D$ waves is due to the soft nature of the $S$ wave and is a direct consequence of chiral symmetry and the Nambu--Goldstone nature of the pion. $F$-wave contributions are shown to be negligible in the near-threshold region.
Methods used in the multipole analysis of low-energy pion-photoproduction data have been tested against the database of kaon-photoproduction measurements. Results for some multipoles are in qualitative agreement with existing phenomenological models, while others are unstable, given the present database. These findings are compared to those of previous studies.
A multipole analysis of vector meson photoproduction is formulated as a generalization of the pseudoscalar meson case. Expansion of spin observables in the multipole basis and behavior of these observables near threshold and resonances are examined.
The long-standing discrepancy between the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn sum rule and the analysis of pion photoproduction multipoles is greatly diminished by use of s-wave multipoles that are in accord with the predictions of chiral perturbation theory and describe the experimental data in the threshold region. The remaining difference may be due to contributions of channels with more pions and/or heavier mesons whose contributions to the sum rule remain to be investigated by a direct measurement of the photoabsorption cross sections.
Two approaches for analysis of pion photo- and electroproduction on nucleons in the resonance energy region are checked at $Q^2=0$ using the results of GWU(VPI) partial-wave analysis of photoproduction data. The approaches are based on dispersion relations and unitary isobar model. Within dispersion relations good description of photoproduction multipoles is obtained up to $W=1.8 GeV$. Within unitary isobar model, modified with increasing energy by incorporation of Regge poles, and with unified Breit-Wigner parametrization of resonance contributions, good description of photoproduction multipo…
Amplitude- and truncated partial-wave analyses are combined into a single procedure and a novel, almost theory-independent single-channel method for extracting multipoles directly from measured data is developed. In practice, we have created a two-step procedure which is fitted to the same data base: in the first step we perform an energy independent amplitude analysis where continuity is achieved by constraining the amplitude phase, and the result of this first step is then taken as a constraint for the second step where a constrained, energy independent, truncated partial-wave analysis is do…
It has recently been proven that the invariance of observables with respect to angle dependent phase rotations of reaction amplitudes mixes multipoles changing also their relative strength [1]. All contemporary partial wave analyses (PWA) in $η$ photoproduction on protons, either energy dependent (ED) [2-5] or single energy (SE) [6] do not take this effect into consideration. It is commonly accepted that there exist quite some similarity in the $E0+$ multipole for all PWA, but notable differences in this, but also in remaining partial waves still remain. In this paper we demonstrate that once …
A combined analysis of new eta photoproduction data for total and differential cross sections, target asymmetry and photon asymmetry is presented. Using a few reasonable assumptions we perform the first model-independent analysis of the E0+, E2- and M2- eta photoproduction multipoles. Making use of the well-known A3/2 helicity amplitude of the D13(1520) state we extract its branching ratio to the eta-N channel, Gamma(eta,N)/Gamma = (0.08 +- 0.01)%. At higher energies, we show that the photon asymmetry is extremely sensitive to small multipoles that are excited by photons in the helicity 3/2 st…
We have fitted low- and medium-energy benchmark datasets employing methods used in the MAID/SAID and dynamical model analyses. Independent fits from the Mainz, RPI, Yerevan, and Kharkov groups have also been performed over the low-energy region. Results for the multipole amplitudes are compared in order to gauge the model-dependence of such fits, given identical data and a single method for error handling.
The new single-channel, single-energy partial wave analysis method based on a simultaneous use of amplitude and partial wave analysis called AA/PWA, developed and tested on $η$ photoproduction in ref. Svarc et al, PRC 102, 064609 (2020), is applied to the $K^{+} Λ$ photoproduction for the center-of-mass energy range of 1625 MeV $< W <$ 2296 MeV. A complete set of multipoles has been created. The advantages of the method have been confirmed, and a comparison with the only existing single-energy partial wave analysis of $K^{+} Λ$ photoproduction given in refs. Anisovich et al PRL 119 062004 (201…
The problem of extracting photoproduction amplitudes uniquely from so called complete experiments is discussed. This problem can be considered either for the extraction of full production amplitudes, or for the determination of multipoles. Both cases are treated briefly. Preliminary results for the fitting of multipoles, as well as the determination of their error, from recent polarization measurements in the $Δ$-region are described in more detail.
We have analysed pion photoproduction imposing constraints from fixed t dispersion relations and unitarity. Coupled integral equations for the S and P wave multipoles were derived from the dispersion relations and solved by the method of Omnes and Muskhelishvili. The free parameters were determined by a fit to the most recent data for π^{+} and π^{0} production on the proton as well as π^{-} production on the neutron, in the energy We have analysed pion photoproduction imposing constraints from fixed t dispersion relations and unitarity. Coupled integral equations for the S and P wave multipol…
We present a combined analysis of the new eta photoproduction data for total and differential cross sections, target asymmetry and photon asymmetry. Using basic assumptions, this allows a model-independent extraction of the $E_{2-}$ and $M_{2-}$ multipoles as well as resonance parameters of the $D_{13}(1520)$ state. At higher energy, we show that the photon asymmetry is extremely sensitive to small multipoles that are excited by photons in the helicity 3/2 state. These could be, e.g., the $F_{15}(1680)$, the $F_{17}(1990)$, or the $G_{17}(2190)$ resonances.
We consider multipole amplitudes for low-energy pion photoproduction, constructed with minimal model dependence, at single energies. Comparisons with fits to the full resonance region are made. Explanations are suggested for the discrepancies and further experiments are motivated.
New kaon photoproduction data on a proton, gamma + p --> K+ + Lambda, are analyzed using a multipole approach. The background terms are given in terms of gauge invariant, crossing symmetric, Born diagrams with hadronic form factors, while the resonances are parameterized using Breit-Wigner forms. Preliminary results suggest a number of new resonances, as predicted by many quark model studies. A comparison between the extracted multipoles and those obtained from KAON-MAID is presented.
The Chew-Mandelstam parameterization, which has been used extensively in the two-body hadronic sector, is generalized in this exploratory study to the electromagnetic sector by simultaneous fits to the pion- and eta-photoproduction S-wave multipole amplitudes for center-of-mass energies from the pion threshold through 1.61 GeV. We review the Chew-Mandelstam parameterization in detail to clarify the theoretical content of the SAID hadronic amplitude analysis and to place the proposed, generalized SAID electromagnetic amplitudes in the context of earlier employed parameterized forms. The paramet…
We assess the energy limit up to which Heavy Baryon Chiral Perturbation Theory (HBChPT) can be applied to the process of neutral pion photoproduction from the proton by analyzing the latest data collected by the MAMI/A2 collaboration at Mainz. The high-quality differential cross section and the photon asymmetry measured data allow to test the theory at a level not previously achieved. We find that, within the current experimental status, the agreement between theory and experiment is excellent up to $\sim$170 MeV. Above this energy HBChPT fails to provide high-quality fits while an empirical p…
We investigate the influence of new Jefferson Lab polarization-transfer data, Cx and Cz, and recoil polarization, Py, measurements in multipole fits to the single-pion photoproduction database. Results are compared to those found with the addition of a double-polarization quantity associated with the Gerasimov- Drell-Hearn sum rule.
Several methods for the treatment of pion photoproduction in the region of the Delta(1232) resonance are discussed, in particular the effective Lagrangian approach and the speed plot analysis are compared to a dynamical treatment. As a main topic, we discuss the extraction of the genuine resonance parts of the magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole multipoles of the electromagnetic excitation of the resonance. To this end, we try to relate the various values for the ratio R_{EM} of the E2 to M1 multipole excitation strengths for the Delta(1232) resonance as extracted by the different methods …
An effective Lagrangian calculation of pion photoproduction including all nucleon resonances up to $\sqrt s = 1.7$ GeV is presented. We compare our results to recent calculations and show the influence of different width parametrizations and offshell cutoffs on the photoproduction multipoles. We determine the electromagnetic couplings of the resonances from a new fit to the multipole data.
We have analyzed the $M_{1+}^{(3/2)}$ and $E_{1+}^{(3/2)}$ multipole amplitudes of pion photoproduction in the framework of fixed-$t$ dispersion relations. Applying the speed plot technique to our results for these multipoles, we have determined the position and the residues of the $Δ$ (1232) resonance pole. The pole is found at total $c.m.$ energy $W = (1211 - 50i)$ MeV on the second Riemann sheet, and the ratio of the electric and magnetic residues is $R_Δ = - 0.035 - 0.046 i$, resulting in an E2/M1 ratio for the "dressed" delta resonance of $- 3.5 \%$.
A unified description of single-pion photoproduction data, together with pion- and eta-hadroproduction data, has been achieved in a Chew-Mandelstam parametrization which is consistent with unitarity at the two-body level. Energy-dependent and single-energy partial wave analyses of pion photoproduction data have been performed and compared to previous SAID fits and multipoles from the Mainz and Bonn-Gatchina groups.
We extend our recent non-perturbative chiral SU(3) coupled channel approach to pion- and photon-induced $η$- and $K$-meson production off protons by including all strong and electromagnetic p-wave multipoles. We identify the p-wave amplitudes of the next-to-leading order SU(3) chiral meson-baryon Lagrangian with a coupled channel potential which is iterated to infinite orders in a separable Lippmann-Schwinger equation. Our approach to $η$- and $K$-photoproduction introduces no additional free parameters. By adjusting a few finite range parameters and the unknown parameters in the Lagrangian, w…
We present a pion photoproduction model on the free nucleon based on an Effective Lagrangian Approach (ELA) which includes the nucleon resonances ($Δ(1232)$, N(1440), N(1520), N(1535), $Δ(1620)$, N(1650), and $Δ(1700)$), in addition to Born and vector meson exchange terms. The model incorporates a new theoretical treatment of spin-3/2 resonances, first introduced by Pascalutsa, avoiding pathologies present in previous models. Other main features of the model are chiral symmetry, gauge invariance, and crossing symmetry. We use the model combined with modern optimization techniques to assess the…
The recently published experimental data on K+Lambda photoproduction by the SAPHIR, CLAS, and LEPS collaborations are analyzed by means of a multipole approach. For this purpose the background amplitudes are constructed from appropriate Feynman diagrams in a gauge-invariant and crossing-symmetric fashion. The results of our calculation emphasize the lack of mutual consistency between the SAPHIR and CLAS data previously found by several independent research groups, whereas the LEPS data are found to be more consistent with those of CLAS. The use of SAPHIR and CLAS data, individually or simultan…
A self-consistent analysis of pion scattering and pion photoproduction within a coupled channels dynamical model is presented. In the case of pion photoproduction, we obtain background contributions to the imaginary part of the S-wave multipole which differ considerably from the result based on the K-matrix approximation. Within the dynamical model these background contributions become large and negative in the region of the S_{11}(1535) resonance. Due to this fact much larger resonance contributions are required in order to explain the results of the recent multipole analyses. For the first S…
The role of dynamics in spin observables for pseudoscalar meson photoproduction is investigated using a density matrix approach in a multipole truncated framework. Extraction of novel rules for $γp \rightarrow π^+ n,~ K^+ Λ$ and $ηp$ reactions based on resonance dominance, and on other broad and reasonable dynamical assumptions, are discussed. Observables that are particularly sensitive to missing nucleonic resonances predicted by quark-based approaches, are singled out.
We have applied a new approach to determine the pole positions and residues from pion photoproduction multipoles. The method is based on a Laurent expansion of the partial wave T-matrices, with a Pietarinen series representing the regular part of energy-dependent and single-energy photoproduction solutions. The method has been applied to multipole fits generated by the MAID and GWU/SAID groups. We show that the number and properties of poles extracted from photoproduction data correspond very well to results from $π$N elastic data and values cited by Particle Data Group (PDG). The photoproduct…
We use the Athens Model Independent Analysis Scheme (AMIAS) to examine the validity of using the Fermi-Watson theorem in the multipole analyses of pion photoproduction and electroproduction data. A standard practice in this field is to fix the multipoles' phases from $πN$ scattering data, making use of the Fermi - Watson theorem. However, these phases are known with limited accuracy and the effect of this uncertainty on the obtained multipole extraction has not been fully explored yet. Using AMIAS we constrain the phases within their experimentally determined uncertainty. We first analyze sets…
We investigate the influence of new GRAAL Sigma-beam asymmetry measurements on the neutron in multipole fits to the single-pion photoproduction database. Results are compared to those found with the addition of a double-polarization quantity associated with the sum rule.
We calculate electromagnetic neutral pion production off tri-nucleon bound states (3H, 3He) at threshold in chiral nuclear effective field theory to fourth order in the standard heavy baryon counting. We show that the fourth order two-nucleon corrections to the S-wave multipoles at threshold are very small. This implies that a precise measurement of the S-wave cross section for neutral pion production off 3He allows for a stringent test of the chiral perturbation theory prediction for the S-wave electric multipole E_{0+}^{pi0 n}.
It has been commonly assumed that low-energy neutral pion photoproduction from the proton can be described accounting only for S and P waves, and that higher partial waves are irrelevant. We have found that this assumption is not correct and that the inclusion of D waves is necessary to obtain a reliable extraction of the $E_{0+}$ multipole from experimental data. This is due in large measure to the spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry in QCD which leads to very small S-wave contributions. This makes the usual partial wave expansion less accurate and although D waves are small, their contri…
We present a calculation of $π^0$ photoproduction on the proton in manifestly Lorentz-invariant baryon chiral perturbation theory up to and including chiral order $q^4$. With the results we analyze the latest $π^0$ photoproduction data in the threshold region obtained at the Mainz Microtron. In the calculation of observables and the fit of the low-energy constants, we take $S$, $P$, and $D$ waves into account. We compare the results for the multipoles with the corresponding single-energy analysis. Furthermore, we also fit the $O(q^4)$ heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory calculation and com…
We present a relativistic dynamical model of pion photoproduction on the nucleon in the resonance region. It offers several advances over the existing approaches. The model is obtained by extending our $πN$-scattering description to the electromagnetic channels. The resulting photopion amplitude is thus unitary in the $πN$, $\ga N$ channel space, Watson's theorem is exactly satisfied. At this stage we have included the pion, nucleon, $\De(1232)$-resonance degrees of freedom. The $ρ$ and $ω$ meson exchanges are also included, but play a minor role in the considered energy domain (up to $\sqrt{s…
The contribution of D waves to physical observables for neutral pion photoproduction in the near threshold region is studied. Heavy Baryon Chiral Perturbation Theory to one loop, and up to ${\cal O}(q^4)$, is used to account for the S and P waves, while D waves are added in an almost model-independent way using standard Born terms and vector mesons. It is found that the inclusion of D waves is necessary to extract the $E_{0+}$ multipole reliably from present and forthcoming data and to assess the low-energy constants of Chiral Perturbation Theory. Arguments are presented demonstrating that F-w…
Some open topics in the field of low energy photon-nucleon interactions are discussed--which in my opinion are of interest both for obtaining new information on nucleon structure as well as for precision tests of our theoretical understanding of chiral dynamics. In particular, I discuss p-wave multipoles in charged pion photoproduction off protons as well as the role of spin-dependent effects in (unpolarized) Compton scattering off nucleons. There the concept of dynamical spin polarizabilities is found to be essential for the understanding of differential Compton cross sections above 120 MeV c…
New data on pion-photoproduction off the proton have been included in the partial wave analyses Bonn-Gatchina and SAID and in the dynamical coupled-channel approach Jülich-Bonn. All reproduce the recent new data well: the double polarization data for E, G, H, P and T in $γp \to π^0 p$ from ELSA, the beam asymmetry $Σ$ for $γp \to π^0 p$ and $π^+ n$ from Jefferson Laboratory, and the precise new differential cross section and beam asymmetry data $Σ$ for $γp \to π^0 p$ from MAMI. The new fit results for the multipoles are compared with predictions not taking into account the new data. The mutual…
The amplitudes for photoproduction of two pseudoscalars on a nucleon are expanded in the overall c.m. frame in a model independent way with respect to the contribution of the final state partial wave of total angular momentum $J$ and its projection on the normal to the plane spanned by the momenta of the final particles. The expansion coefficients which are analogues to the multipole amplitudes for single meson photoproduction contain the complete information about the reaction dynamics. Results of an explicit evaluation are presented for the moments $W_{jm}$ of the inclusive angular distribut…
Photo production of pions on the deuteron is studied in the spectator nucleon model. The Born terms of the elementary production amplitude are determined in pseudovector $π$N coupling and supplied with a form factor. The $Δ$ resonance is considered both in the $s$ and the $u$ channel. The parameters of the $Δ$ resonance and the cutoff of the form factors are fixed on the leading photoproduction multipoles. Results for total and differential cross sections are compared with experimental data. Particular attention is paid to the role of Pauli correlations of the final state nucleons in the quasi…
We investigate the importance of crossing symmetry in effective field models and the effects of phenomenological nucleon resonance widths on the paradigmatic case of pion photoproduction. We use reaction models containing four star resonances up to 1.8 Gev ($Δ$(1232), N(1440), N(1520), N(1535), $Δ$(1620), N(1650), $Δ$(1700), and N(1720)) with different prescriptions for crossed terms and widths, to fit the latest world database on pion photoproduction. We compare $χ^2$ results from selected multipoles and fits. The $χ^2$ is highly dependent on the fulfillment of crossing symmetry and the inclu…
A number of recent multipole analyses from Mainz, RPI, BNL and Virginia Tech (VPI) have focused on the first resonance region. One goal common to these studies was an improved set of Delta(1232) photo-decay amplitudes. There has been considerable debate over the differing results found for A(1/2), A(3/2) and the E2/M1 ratio. We show that a much more consistent set of values is possible if differences in the database are considered.
We have updated our multipole analyses to incorporate new data from the low-energy and delta resonance regions. We note a slight decrease in our estimate of the delta photo-decay amplitudes. This agrees with results found in Compton scattering. Our values are also in good agreement with a previous RPI determination. We have reexamined our determinations of the E2/M1 ratio at the resonance energy and at the pole. We find an E2/M1 ratio (at the pole) which is in good agreement with recent the Mainz value.
Photoproduction of two pions on nucleon and deuteron is studied for photon energies from threshold up to $E_γ= 1.5$ GeV. For the elementary operator an effective Lagrangean approach is used with resonance and Born contributions. The model parameters are fixed by resonance decay widths and multipole analyses of single pion photoproduction. A satisfactory description of total cross sections of two-pion production on the proton for various charge channels is achieved, except for $π^0π^0$ production for which a significant underestimation is found near threshold. The operator then serves for the e…
Pion electroproduction off the proton is analyzed in a new framework based on a general parametrization of transition amplitudes, including constraints from gauge invariance and threshold behavior. Data with energies $1.13~{\rm GeV}<W<1.6~{\rm GeV}$ and $Q^2$ below $6~{\rm GeV}^2$ are included. The model is an extension of the latest Jülich-Bonn solution incorporating constraints from pion-induced and photoproduction data. Performing large scale fits ($\sim10^5$ data) we find a set of solutions with $χ^2_{\rm dof}=1.69-1.81$ which allows us to assess the systematic uncertainty of the approach.
With the availability of the new neutral pion photoproduction from the proton data from the A2 and CB-TAPS Collaborations at Mainz it is mandatory to revisit Heavy Baryon Chiral Perturbation Theory (HBChPT) and address the extraction of the partial waves as well as other issues such as the value of the low-energy constants, the energy range where the calculation provides a good agreement with the data and the impact of unitarity. We find that, within the current experimental status, HBChPT with the fitted LECs gives a good agreement with the existing neutral pion photoproduction data up to $\s…
We investigate pion photoproduction off the proton in a manifestly gauge-invariant chiral unitary extension of chiral perturbation theory. In a first step, we consider meson-baryon scattering taking into account all next-to-leading order contact interactions. The resulting low-energy constants are determined by a fit to s-wave pion-nucleon scattering and the low-energy data for the reaction pi- p --> eta n. To assess the theoretical uncertainty, we perform two different fit strategies. Having determined the low-energy constants, we then analyse the data on the s-wave multipole amplitudes E0+ o…
Recent data from the PIONS$@$MAX-lab Collaboration, measuring the total cross section of the pion incoherent photoproduction $γd\toπ^-pp$ near threshold, have been used to extract the E$_{0+}$ multipole and total cross section of the reaction $γn\!\to\!π^-p$, also near threshold. These are the first measurements of the reaction $γd\toπ^-pp$ in the threshold region. The value of E$_{0+}$ is extracted through a fit to the deuteron data in a photoproduction model accounting for final-state interactions. The model takes an $S$-wave approximation for the elementary reaction $γn\!\to\!π^-p$ with E$_…
Model dependence of multipole analysis has been explored through energy-dependent and single-energy fits to pion photoproduction data. The MAID energy-dependent solution has been used as input for an event generator producing realistic pseudo data. These were fitted using the SAID parametrization approach to determine single-energy and energy-dependent solutions over a range of lab photon energies from 200 to 1200 MeV. The resulting solutions were found to be consistent with the input amplitudes from MAID. Fits with a $χ$-squared per datum of unity or less were generally achieved. We discuss e…
We have analyzed the experimental data on K+Lambda photoproduction by using a multipole approach. In this analysis we use the background amplitudes constructed from appropriate Feynman diagrams in a gauge-invariant and crossing-symmetric fashion. Results of our analysis reveal the problem of mutual consistency between the new SAPHIR and CLAS data. We found that the problem could lead to different conclusions on ``missing resonances''. We have also extended our analysis to the finite Q^2 region and compared the result with the corresponding electroproduction data.
We study the reaction of pion photoproduction on the nucleon in the framework of chiral perturbation theory with explicit $Δ(1232)$ degrees of freedom. In the covariant approach, we give results up to order $ε^3$ in the small scale expansion scheme. Furthermore, we provide $Δ$-less and $Δ$-full results obtained in the heavy-baryon scheme to analyze the differences to the covariant approach. Low energy constants are fitted to multipole amplitudes using theoretical truncation errors estimated by a Bayesian approach. We also compare our findings to data of neutral pion production cross sections a…
We investigate threshold pion photoproduction in the framework of heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. We give the expansion of the electric dipole amplitude $E_{0+}$ to three orders in $μ$, the ratio of the pion to nucleon mass, and show that it is slowly converging. We argue that this observable is not a good testing ground for the chiral dynamics of QCD. In contrast, we exhibit new and fastly converging low--energy theorems in the P--waves which should be used to constrain the data analysis. We also discuss the importance of polarization observables to accurately pin down certain multip…
The complete experiment problem in the truncated partial wave analysis of pseudoscalar meson photoproduction with suppressed t-channel exchanges is investigated. The focus is set to ambiguities of the group S observables with the unpolarized differential cross section, $σ_0$, and the three single-spin observables, $Σ$, $T$ and $P$. For this purpose, the approach and formalism already worked out by Omelaenko in 1981 is revisited in this work. A numerical study using multipoles of the PWA solution MAID2007 shows how only one additional double polarization observable can resolve all ambiguities. …
A review of our works providing a theoretical description of incoherent pion photoproduction on the deuteron is presented. The existing $γd\toπNN$ data are analysed, especially those obtained more recently by the CLAS Collaboration at JLab, the A2 Collaboration at MAMI at Mainz, and the PION@MAX-lab Collaboration at Lund. A procedure, which accounts for the final state interactions (FSI), is applied to extract $γn\toπN$ differential cross sections from the deuteron data. The role of FSI is discussed. We also comment on the results of other works in connection with some discrepancies seen in co…
Unambiguous isospin violation in the strong interaction sector is a key issue in low energy hadronic physics, both experimentally and theoretically. Bernstein has employed the Fermi-Watson theorem to demonstrate that pion photoproduction is a process where isospin violation in the pi N system can be revealed, an approach we review here. Here we propose a general operator approach to the phenomenon in pion photoproduction, thereby providing an analogue for the framework that was proposed for pi N scattering by Kaufmann and Gibbs. The resulting set of amplitudes could form the basis for determin…
The contributions of the resonances $D_{13}(1520)$, $S_{11}(1535)$, $S_{11}(1650)$, $D_{15}(1675)$, $F_{15}(1680)$, $D_{13}(1700)$, $P_{11}(1710)$, $P_{13}(1720)$ to $γp\to ηp$ are found from the data on cross sections, beam and target asymmetries using two approaches: fixed-t dispersion relations and an isobar model. Utilization of the two approaches and comparison of the results obtained with different parametrizations of the resonance contributions allowed us to make conclusions about the model-dependence of these contributions. We conclude that the results for the contributions of the reso…
Incoherent pion photoproduction on the deuteron is studied in the first resonance region. The unpolarized cross section, the beam asymmetry, and the vector and tensor target asymmetries are calculated in the framework of a diagrammatic approach. Pole diagrams and one-loop diagrams with $NN$ scattering in the final state are taken into account. An elementary operator for pion photoproduction on the nucleon is taken in various on-shell forms and calculated using the SAID and MAID multipole analyses. Model dependence of the obtained results is discussed in some detail. A comparison with predictio…
The photoproduction of the $J/ψ$ off the proton is believed to deepen our understanding of various physics issues. On the one hand, it is proposed to provide access to the origin of the proton mass, based on the QCD multipole expansion. On the other hand, it can be employed in a study of pentaquark states. The process is usually assumed to proceed through vector-meson dominance, that is the photon couples to a $J/ψ$ which rescatters with the proton to give the $J/ψp$ final state. In this Letter, we provide a compelling hint for and propose measurements necessary to confirm a novel production m…
