Network-aware Adaptation with Real-Time Channel Statistics for Wireless LAN Multimedia Transmissions in the Digital Home

Wireless Lan to Support Multimedia Communication Using Spread Spectrum Technology

Wireless LAN is currently enjoying rapid deployment in University departments, business offices, hospitals and homes. It becomes an inexpensive technology and allows multiple numbers of the households to simultaneously access the internet while roaming about the house. In the present work, the design and development of a wireless LAN is highlighted which utilizes direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) technology at 900MHz RF carrier frequency in its physical layer. This provides enormous security in the physical layer and hence it is very difficult to hack or jam the network. The installation …

Analysis of M2/M2/1/R,N Queuing Model for Multimedia over 3.5G Wireless Network Downlink

Analysis of an M2/M2/1/R, N queuing model for the multimedia transmission over HSDPA/3.5G downlink is presented. The queue models the downlink buffer with source multimedia traffic streams comprising two classes of flows: realtime and non real-time. Time priority is accorded to the real-time flows while the non real-time flows are given buffer space priority. An analytic evaluation of the impact of varying the buffer partition threshold on the QoS performance of both classes of customers is undertaken. The results are validated with a discrete event simulation model developed in C language. Fi…

A QoS Guarantee Strategy for Multimedia Conferencing based on Bayesian Networks

Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is commonly employed in the design and implementation of web service systems. The key technology to enable media communications in the context of SOA is the Service Oriented Communication. To exploit the advantage of SOA, we design and implement a web-based multimedia conferencing system that provides users with a hybrid orchestration of web and communication services. As the current SOA lacks effective QoS guarantee solutions for multimedia services, the user satisfaction is greatly challenged with QoS violations, e.g., low video PSNR (Peak Signal-to-Noise …

为何E.T.无法打电话回家：VoWiFi中基于IP的地理封锁的全球视角

Why E.T. Can't Phone Home: A Global View on IP-based Geoblocking at VoWiFi

An Intelligent QoS Algorithm for Home Networks

A novel quality of service (QoS) management algorithm for home networks is presented in this letter. The algorithm is based on service prediction for intelligent QoS management. The service prediction is carried out by a general regression neural network with a profile containing the past records of the service. A novel profile updating technique is proposed so that the profile size can remain small for fast bandwidth allocation. The analytical study and experiments over real LAN reveal that the proposed algorithm provides reliable QoS management for home networks with low computational overhe…
