It has been pointed out that the recent BaBar data on the pi gamma^* -> gamma transition form factor F_{pi gamma}(Q^2) at low (high) momentum transfer squared Q^2 indicate an asymptotic (flat) pion distribution amplitude. These seemingly contradictory observations can be reconciled in the k_T factorization theorem: the increase of the measured Q^2F_{pi gamma}(Q^2) for Q^2 > 10 GeV^2 is explained by convoluting a k_T dependent hard kernel with a flat pion distribution amplitude, k_T being a parton transverse momentum. The low Q^2 data are accommodated by including the resummation of alpha_s ln^2x, x being a parton momentum fraction, which provides a stronger suppression at the endpoints of x. The next-to-leading-order correction to the pion transition form factor is found to be less than 20% in the considered range of Q^2.
We extract the pion transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution by fitting the pion-induced Drell-Yan process within the framework of TMD factorization. The analysis is done at the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) with proton TMD distribution and non-perturbative TMD evolution extracted earlier in the global fit. We observe the significant difference in the normalization of transverse momentum differential cross-section measured by E615 experiment and the theory prediction.
We calculate the time-like pion electromagnetic form factor in the $k_T$ factorization formalism with the inclusion of the next-to-leading-order(NLO) corrections to the leading-twist and sub-leading-twist contributions. It's found that the total NLO correction can enhance (reduce) the magnitude (strong phase) of the leading order form factor by $20\% - 30\%$ ( $< 15^o$) in the considered invariant mass squared $q^2 > 5$ GeV$^2$, and the NLO twist-3 correction play the key role to narrow the gap between the pQCD predictions and the measured values for the time-like pion electromagnetic form fac…
We calculate the time-like pion-photon transition form factor and the pion electromagnetic form factor up to next-to-leading order (NLO) of the strong coupling constant in the leading-twist $k_T$ factorization formalism. It is found that the NLO corrections to the magnitude (phase) are lower than 30% ($30^\circ$) for the former, and lower than 25% ($10^\circ$) for the latter at large invariant mass squared $Q^2>30$ GeV$^2$ of the virtual photons. The increase of the strong phases with $Q^2$ is obtained, consistent with the tendency indicated by experimental data. This behavior is attributed to…
We set up a framework for the study of the power-suppressed three-parton contribution to the pion electromagnetic form factor in the $k_T$ factorization theorem. It is first shown that the gauge dependence proportional to parton transverse momenta from the two-parton Fock state and the gauge dependence associated with the three-parton Fock state cancel each other. After verifying the gauge invariance, we derive the three-parton-to-three-parton $k_T$-dependent hard kernel at leading order of the coupling constant, and find that it leads to about 5% correction to the pion electromagnetic form fa…

We revisit the evaluations for the spacelike and timelike $ρπ$ transition form factors $F_{ρπ}(Q^2)$ and $G_{ρπ}(Q^2)$ with the inclusion of the the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD contributions in the framework of the $k_T$ factorization theorem. The infrared divergence is regularized by the transversal momentum carried by external valence quarks, and ultimately absorbed into the meson wave functions. In the region of $ Q^2 \leqslant 2 \, \textrm{GeV}^2 $, where PQCD factorization apporach applicable, the NLO contribution can bring no larger than $ 35\%$ enhancement to the spacelike form fact…
In this paper, by employing the $k_{T}$ factorization theorem, we calculate firstly the next-to-leading-order (NLO) twist-3 contributions to the pion electromagnetic form factors in the $πγ^* \to π$ process. From the analytical and numerical calculations we find the following points: (a) For the leading order (LO) twist-2, twist-3 and the NLO twist-2 contributions, our results agree very well with those obtained in previous works; (b) We extract out two factors $F^{(1)}_{\rm T3}(x_i,t,Q^2)$ and $\ov{F}^{(1)}_{\rm T3}(x_i,t,Q^2)$, which describe directly the NLO twist-3 contributions to the pio…
We considered the power corrections to the amplitude describing hard exclusive pion pair production in gamma gamma collisions at large energy and momentum transfer. In order to derive a factorization formula for the subleading power corrections one has to take into account the so-called soft-overlap (or soft) contributions. These terms can be naturally introduced within the SCET framework as a matrix elements of the SCET-I operators. The so-called end-point singularities must cancel in the sum of the hard and soft contributions after matching onto SCET-II. Using the so-called physical subtract…
The recently proposed hard-pion chiral perturbation theory predicts that the leading chiral logarithms factorize with respect to the energy dependence in the chiral limit. This claim has been successfully tested in the pion form factors up to two loops in chiral perturbation theory. In the present paper we explain this factorization property at two loops and even show that it is valid to all orders for a subclass of diagrams. We also demonstrate that factorization is violated starting at three loops.
QCD factorization in gamma* gamma -> pi pi and gamma* N -> pi pi N
We calculate next-to-leading-order (NLO) correction to the pion electromagnetic form factor at leading twist in the $k_T$ factorization theorem. Partons off-shell by $k_T^2$ are considered in both quark diagrams and effective diagrams for the transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) pion wave function. The light-cone singularities in the TMD pion wave function are regularized by rotating the Wilson lines away from the light cone. The soft divergences from gluon exchanges among initial- and final-state partons cancel exactly. We derive the infrared-finite $k_T$-dependent NLO hard kernel for the pion…
We investigate the theoretical framework of the $\cos 2ϕ$ azimuthal asymmetry contributed by the coupling of two Boer-Mulders functions in the dilepton production unpolarized $πp$ Drell-Yan process by applying the transverse momentum dependent factorization at leading order. We adopt the model calculation results of the unpolarized distribution function $f_1$ and Boer-Mulders function $h_1^\perp$ of pion meson from the light-cone wave functions. We take into account the transverse momentum evolution effects for both the distribution functions of pion and proton by adopting the existed extracti…
We introduce a factorization formula for semi-leptonic $b \to u$ transitions in the exclusive decay mode $B^- \to π^+π^-\ell^-\barν_\ell$ in the limit of large pion energies and large dipion invariant mass. One contribution can be described in terms of a universal $B \to π$ form factor and the convolution of a short-distance kernel $T^{\rm I}$ with the respective light-cone distribution amplitudes (LCDAs) of the positively charged pion. The second contribution, at leading power, completely factorizes, with a short-distance kernel $T^{\rm II}$ convoluted with the leading-twist LCDAs for both pi…
I discuss the factorization-compatible definitions of transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) pion wave functions which are fundamental theory inputs entering QCD factorization formulae for many hard exclusive processes. I will first demonstrate that the soft subtraction factor introduced to remove both rapidity and pinch singularities can be greatly reduced by making the maximal use of the freedom to construct the Wilson-line paths when defining the TMD wave functions. I will then turn to show that the newly proposed TMD definition with non-dipolar Wilson lines is equivalent to the one with dipol…
We investigate the single transverse-spin asymmetry with a $\sin (2ϕ-ϕ_S)$ modulation in the pion-induced Drell-Yan process within the theoretical framework of the transverse momentum dependent factorization. The asymmetry is contributed by the convolution of the Boer-Mulders function and the transversity. We adopt the model results for the distributions of the pion meson from the light-cone wavefunction approach and the available parametrization for the distributions of the proton to numerically estimate the $\sin (2ϕ-ϕ_S)$ asymmetry in $π^- p$ Drell-Yan at the kinematics of the COMPASS at CE…
We study the $\sin2ϕ_h$ azimuthal asymmetry of charged and neutral pion productions off the longitudinally polarized nucleon targets in semi-inclusive deeply inelastic scattering (SIDIS) process within the transverse momentum dependent~(TMD) factorization. The asymmetry is contributed by the convolution of the TMD distribution $h_{1L}^{\perp}$ and the Collins fragmentation function $H_{1}^\perp$. We adopt the Wandzura-Wilczek-type~(WW-type) approximation for $h_{1L}^{\perp}$ and two different parametrizations on the nonperturbative part of TMD evolution for $h_{1L}^{\perp}$ and $H_{1}^\perp$. …
We investigate the Sivers asymmetry in the pion-induced single polarized Drell-Yan process in the theoretical framework of the transverse momentum dependent factorization up to next-to-leading logarithmic order of QCD. Within the TMD evolution formalism of parton distribution functions, the recently extracted nonperturbative Sudakov form factor for the pion distribution functions as well as the one for the Sivers function of the proton are applied to numerically estimate the Sivers asymmetry in the $π^- p$ Drell-Yan at the kinematics of the COMPASS at CERN. In the low $b$ region, the Sivers fu…
We studied chiral phase transition in the linear sigma model within the Tsallis nonextensive statistics in the case of small deviation from the Boltzmann-Gibbs (BG) statistics. The statistics has two parameters: the temperature $T$ and the entropic parameter $q$. The normalized $q$-expectation value and the physical temperature $\Tph$ were employed in this study. The normalized $q$-expectation value was expanded as a series of the value $(1-q)$, where the absolute value $|1-q|$ is the measure of the deviation from the BG statistics. We applied the Hartree factorization and the free particle ap…
We have applied the extended factorization scheme to investigate the electroweak pion production on nuclei. The ANL-Osaka model, which was obtained by analyzing the data of $πN$, $γN$, $N(e,e'π)$ and $N(ν,μ\,π) $ reactions up to invariant mass $W=$ 2 GeV, is used to generate the matrix elements of current operators relevant to pion-production off the nucleon. Medium effects on the $Δ$ (1232) component of meson-exchange current are included by using a $Δ$-nucleus potential determined from the previous $Δ$-hole model studies of pion-nucleus reactions. Nuclear correlations in the initial target s…
We study the form factors of the quark tensor currents in the pion at large squared momentum transfer Q^2. It turns out that certain form factors can be evaluated using collinear factorization, whereas others receive important contributions from the end-point regions of the longitudinal quark momenta in the pion. We derive simple analytic expressions for the dominant terms at high Q^2 and illustrate them numerically.
We calculate next-to-leading-order (NLO) corrections to the $B\toπ$ transition form factors at leading twist in the $k_T$ factorization theorem. Light partons off-shell by $k_T^2$ are considered in the quark diagrams, in the effective diagrams for the $B$ meson wave function defined with the effective heavy-quark field, and in the effective diagrams for the pion wave function. It is explicitly demonstrated that the infrared logarithms $\ln k_T^2$ cancel between the above sets of diagrams, as deriving the $k_T$-dependent NLO hard kernel from their difference. The infrared finiteness of the hard…
Recently, the BABAR collaboration published (arXiv:0905.4778) data for the photon-pion transition form factor $F_{πγγ^{\ast}}(Q^{2})$, which are in strong contradiction to the predictions of the standard factorization approach to perturbative QCD. Immediately afterwards, two mechanisms were suggested (A.E. Dorokhov, arXiv:0905.4577; A.V. Radyushkin, arXiv:0906.0323), that logarithmically enhance the form factor asymptotics and therefore provide a qualitatively satisfactory description of the BABAR data. However, the physics of the BABAR effect was not fully clarified. In the present work, base…
We reconsider QCD factorization for the leading power contribution to the $γ^{\ast} γ\to π^0$ form factor $F_{γ^{\ast} γ\to π^0} (Q^2)$ at one loop using the evanescent operator approach, and demonstrate the equivalence of the resulting factorization formulae derived with distinct prescriptions of $γ_5$ in dimensional regularization. Applying the light-cone QCD sum rules (LCSRs) with photon distribution amplitudes (DAs) we further compute the subleading power contribution to the pion-photon form factor induced by the "hadronic" component of the real photon at the next-to-leading-order in ${\ca…
We construct an evolution equation for the pion wave function in the $k_T$ factorization theorem, whose solution sums the mixed logarithm $\ln x\ln k_T$ to all orders, with $x$ ($k_T$) being a parton momentum fraction (transverse momentum). This joint resummation induces strong suppression of the pion wave function in the small $x$ and large $b$ regions, $b$ being the impact parameter conjugate to $k_T$, and improves the applicability of perturbative QCD to hard exclusive processes. The above effect is similar to those from the conventional threshold resummation for the double logarithm $\ln^2…
