Jet fragmentation functions provide insight into jet structure and are expected to be modified by the nuclear medium in A+A collisions with respect to p+p reference measurements. If jet reconstruction is unbiased then a softening of the fragmentation functions is expected and should be observed in Au+Au collisions at RHIC. In these proceedings we present measurements of fragmentation functions in p+p for charged particles for different jet finding algorithms; these measurements are understood and therefore can be used as a reference for comparison with Au+Au results. We report the effect of background and its fluctuations on jet reconstruction in Au+Au collisions, estimated by using the jet algorithms on simulated Pythia jets embedded in real Au+Au events. Finally, measurements of fragmentation functions for jets reconstructed in Au+Au events and their comparison to the p+p baseline are presented and discussed.
Jet fragmentation functions measured in e^+e^- and p+\bar{p} experiments are well-described on an inclusive hadron level by QCD-based calculations. Fragmentation is expected to be modified by the presence of a strongly interacting medium, but full theoretical description of this modification must still be developed. It has recently been suggested that particle-identified fragmentation functions may provide additional insight into the processes underlying jet quenching. To assess the applicability of QCD-based fragmentation calculations to RHIC data, and to provide a baseline with which to comp…
The measurement of jet fragmentation functions in p+p collisions at 200 GeV is of great interest because it provides a baseline to study jet quenching in heavy-ion collisions. It is expected that jet quenching in nuclear matter modifies the jet energy and multiplicity distributions, as well as the jet hadrochemical composition. Therefore, a systematic study of the fragmentation functions for charged hadrons and identified particles is a goal both in p+p and Au+Au collisions at RHIC. Studying fragmentation functions for identified particles is interesting in p+p by itself because it provides a …
Jet fragmentation in p+p and Au+Au collisions is studied via back-to-back correlations of direct photons and charged hadrons. The direct photon correlations are obtained by statical subtraction of the background from decay photons. Results on the nuclear modification to the associated charged hadron yields are reviewed. Further studies of jet fragmentation in p+p using isolated direct photons are also presented. A kT-smeared LO pQCD calculation is used to interpret the data. The sensitivity of the data to the underlying fragmentation function is tested and the results are found to be compatibl…
Measurements of inclusive hadron suppression and di-hadron azimuthal correlations have provided important insights into jet quenching in hot QCD matter. However, they do not provide access to the energy of the hard scattering and are limited in their sensitivity since they can be affected by biases toward hard fragmentation and small energy loss. Full jet reconstruction in heavy-ion collisions enables a complete study of the modification of jet structure due to energy loss, but is challenging due to the high-multiplicity environment. We present measurements of fully reconstructed di-jets at mi…
Latest results from the PHENIX experiment at RHIC on these topics will be presented. Results will be shown for Au+Au compared to p-p collisions as well as compared to results from fully reconstructed jets at LHC.
Direct photons are important probes in high energy collisions. They play an important role in determining the parton distribution function directly inside a proton as well as the nature of the matter formed in heavy ion collisions. However fragmentation photons play the role of prominent background in identifying the direct photons. In the present work we developed a new method based on the transverse energy balance of jets for enrichment of direct photon candidates in pp collisions. This method can reject 35% of the background photons (fragmentation) which can not be suppressed by isolation. …
Short lived resonances are sensitive to the medium properties in heavy-ion collisions. Heavy hadrons have larger probability to be produced within the quark gluon plasma phase due to their short formation times. Therefore heavy mass resonances are more likely to be affected by the medium, and the identification of early produced resonances from jet fragmentation might be a viable option to study chirality. The high momentum resonances on the away-side of a triggered di-jet are likely to be the most modified by the partonic or early hadronic medium. We will discuss first results of triggered ha…
Measurements of inclusive hadron suppression and di-hadron azimuthal correlations in ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions at RHIC have provided important insights into jet quenching in hot QCD matter, but are limited in their sensitivity due to well-known biases. Full jet reconstruction in heavy-ion collisions would conceptually provide a direct measurement of the energy of the scattered parton before energy loss, alleviating such biases and allowing a measurement of the energy loss probability distribution in a model-independent way from hard probes. In these proceedings we utilize recent pr…
Hard-scattering of point-like constituents (or partons) in p-p collisions was discovered at the CERN-ISR in 1972 by measurements utilizing inclusive single or pairs of hadrons with large transverse momentum ($p_T$). It was generally assumed, following Feynman, Field and Fox, as shown by data from the CERN-ISR experiments, that the $p_{T_a}$ distribution of away side hadrons from a single particle trigger [with $p_{T_t}$], corrected for <z_t> of fragmentation would be the same as that from a jet-trigger and follow the same fragmentation function as observed in $e^+ e^-$ or DIS. PHENIX attempted…
We discuss the latest results from jet fragmentation and jet substructure measurements performed with the ALICE experiment in proton-proton and heavy-ion collisions in a wide range of jet transverse momentum. The jet production cross sections and cross section ratios for different jet resolution parameters will be shown in a wide range of $p_{\textrm{T}}$. Results will be compared to next-to-leading order pQCD calculations.
High-energy jets offer rich opportunities to study quantum chromodynamics, from investigating the limits of perturbative calculability to constraining the emergent properties of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP). In these proceedings, we present new measurements of the fragmentation properties of jets. We report distributions of the sub-jet momentum fraction $z_r$ measured in pp and Pb-Pb collisions with ALICE at the Large Hadron Collider. These measurements serve as input to test the universality of jet fragmentation in the QGP, and offer a path to elucidate jet quenching effects in the large-$z$ …
Jet reconstruction and jet fragmentation variables provide important information to study the interaction between hard scattered partons and the Quark-Gluon Plasma. This paper presents the measurement of the inclusive cross section for fully reconstructed jets in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 2.76 TeV, which provides an essential reference for jet measurements in Pb-Pb collisions at the same sqrt(s_NN). In addition, we report jet fragmentation measurements for charged particle jets in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV. These measurements utilize the ALICE central barrel tracking system to detect c…
The STAR Collaboration reports measurements of differential jet shapes and semi-inclusive jet fragmentation functions in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=$ 200 GeV with the STAR detector at RHIC. Jet shapes, which represent the radial distribution of momentum carried by constituents, are measured differentially for (1) the charged particles transverse momentum and (2) the jet azimuthal angle relative to the second-order event plane. Based on the semi-inclusive population of jets recoiling from a high transverse momentum trigger hadron, jet fragmentation functions in 40-60% central h…
One of the most active areas of investigation in relativistic heavy-ion collisions is the study of the jet quenching phenomenon whereby hard partons lose their energy as they traverse the hot, dense matter created in such collisions. Strong parton energy loss has been observed in central nucleus-nucleus collisions as evidenced by the a large suppression of the yield of high pT hadrons as compared to the expected yield based on measurements in p+p collisions. Moreover, measurements of back-to-back correlations of charged hadrons suggest that jet shapes are strongly modified modified by the medi…
Measurement of jet fragmentation property in p + p collisions provides a crucial baseline for the study of a possible, modified fragmentation behavior at the presence of the quark-gluon plasma. We describe the first measurement of jet fragmentation functions in sqrt(s) = 200 GeV p + p collisions at RHIC. This is facilitated by extending the linear least square unfolding technique employed by high energy and nuclear experiments to multidimensional spectra, which allows us to correct the inefficiencies in the jet energy response encountered at detectors such as PHENIX.
Charged-particle fragmentation functions for jets azimuthally balanced by a high-transverse-momentum, prompt, isolated photon are measured in $25$ pb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ and $0.49$ nb$^{-1}$ of Pb+Pb collision data at $5.02$ TeV per nucleon pair recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The measurements are compared to predictions of Monte Carlo generators and to measurements of inclusively selected jets. In $pp$ collisions, a different jet fragmentation function in photon-tagged events from that in inclusive jet events arises from the difference in fragmentation between light …
Jet quenching in relativistic heavy ion collisions can have multiple phenomenological consequences: jet energy loss, modification of jet substructure, and induced acoplanarity. In these proceedings, we report a measurement of the jet fragmentation function, which is one of the jet substructure observables, in peripheral Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV by the STAR experiment at RHIC. In particular, we use a semi-inclusive population of jets recoiling from a high transverse momentum trigger hadron. The fragmentation function is constructed from the fraction of the transverse momentum of…
Based on a multi-phase transport model, the measured jet fragmentation function ratio of Pb+Pb collisions to p+p collisions in CERN Large Hadron Collider experiments is decomposed into two parts, corresponding to the two contributions of jet hadronization from fragmentation and coalescence. The results suggest an existence of distinct competitions between two jet hadronization mechanisms for different $ξ$=ln(1/$z$) ranges in different centrality bins. The jet fragmentation functions for different types of hadrons (mesons and baryons) are proposed as a good probe to study the competition betwee…
The nature of a jet's fragmentation in heavy-ion collisions has the potential to cast light on the mechanism of jet quenching. However the presence of the huge underlying event complicates the reconstruction of the jet fragmentation function as a function of the momentum fraction z of hadrons in the jet. Here we propose the use of moments of the fragmentation function. These quantities appear to be as sensitive to quenching modifications as the fragmentation function directly in z. We show that they are amenable to background subtraction using the same jet-area based techniques proposed in the…
Jet fragmentation in pp and PbPb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 2.76 TeV per nucleon pair was studied using data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. Fragmentation functions are constructed using charged-particle tracks with transverse momenta pt > 4 GeV for dijet events with a leading jet of pt > 100 GeV. The fragmentation functions in PbPb events are compared to those in pp data as a function of collision centrality, as well as dijet-pt imbalance. Special emphasis is placed on the most central PbPb events including dijets with unbalanced momentum, indicative of energy loss o…
Dijets in PbPb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 2.76 TeV are studied with the CMS detector at the LHC. It is shown that the fragmentation functions of jets into charged particle tracks with transverse momenta pT > 4 GeV/c in PbPb collisions are similar to those in pp collisions, for both the leading and subleading jets. In addition, study of high statistics PbPb data acquired in 2011 shows that the quenching phenomenon exists up to highest jet pT values in excess of 300 GeV/c.
The jet fragmentation function describes the longitudinal momentum distribution of hadrons inside a reconstructed jet. We study the jet fragmentation function in proton-proton collisions in the framework of soft-collinear effective theory (SCET). We find that, up to power corrections, the jet fragmentation function can be expressed as the ratio of the fragmenting jet function and the unmeasured jet function. Using renormalization group techniques, we are able to resum large logarithms of jet radii R in the perturbative expansion of the cross section. We use our theoretical formalism to describ…
We report the differential charged jet cross section and jet fragmentation distributions measured with the ALICE detector in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=$ 7 TeV. Jets with pseudo-rapidity $\left| η\right| < {\rm 0.5}$ are reconstructed from charged particles using the anti-$k_{\rm T}$ jet finding algorithm with a resolution parameter $R$ = 0.4. The jet cross section is measured in the transverse momentum interval 5 $\leq p_{\rm T}^{\rm ch \; jet} <$ 100 GeV/$c$. Jet fragmentation is studied measuring the scaled transverse momentum spectra of the charged consti…
A surprising excess of protons at intermediate $p_T$, 2-5GeV/c, has been observed in Au+Au collisions at RHIC, for which the source is not known. In p+p collisions, particles at this $p_T$ arise from jet fragmentation, however the observed baryon yield in central Au+Au collisions are not compatible with the usual jet fragmentation function. Two particle $Δϕ$ correlations are a powerful probe for quantitatively understanding the modifications to jet fragmentation from interactions with the medium. Earlier studies have shown that the excess baryons do have jet-like partners, indicating a hard sc…
This paper presents a measurement of jet fragmentation functions in 0.49 nb$^{-1}$ of Pb+Pb collisions and 25 pb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 5.02$ TeV collected in 2015 with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. These measurements provide insight into the jet quenching process in the quark-gluon plasma created in the aftermath of ultra-relativistic collisions between two nuclei. The modifications to the jet fragmentation functions are quantified by dividing the measurements in Pb+Pb collisions by baseline measurements in $pp$ collisions. This ratio is studied as a function of the tr…
The jet fragmentation function of inclusive jets with transverse momentum pt above 100 GeV in PbPb collisions has been measured using reconstructed charged particles with pt above 1 GeV in a cone of radius 0.3 around the jet axis. A data sample of PbPb collisions collected in 2011 at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s[NN]) = 2.76 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 150 inverse microbarns is used. The results for PbPb collisions as a function of collision centrality and jet transverse momentum are compared to reference distributions based on pp data collected at the …
In ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.5 TeV at the ALICE experiment at the LHC, interactions between the high-$p_{T}$ partons and the hot, dense medium produced in the collisions, are expected to lead to jet energy loss (jet-quenching) resulting in changes in the jet fragmentation functions as compared to the unquenched case. In order to reconstruct jet fragmentation functions, accurate information on the jet energy, direction and momentum distribution of the jet particles is needed. This thesis presents first results on jet reconstruction in simulated Pb+Pb collisi…
This paper presents the most recent nuclear k_T measurements from STAR derived from multiparticle jet reconstruction of d+Au and p+p collisions at sqrt(s)=200 GeV. Since jets reconstructed from multiple particles are relatively free of fragmentation biases, nuclear k_T can be measured with greater certainty in this way than with traditional di-hadron correlations. Multi-particle jet reconstruction can also be used for a direct measurement of the fragmentation function.
We develop the theoretical framework needed to study the distribution of hadrons with general polarization inside jets, with and without transverse momentum measured with respect to the standard jet axis. The key development in this paper, referred to as "polarized jet fragmentation functions", opens up new opportunities to study both collinear and transverse momentum dependent (TMD) fragmentation functions. As two examples of the developed framework, we study longitudinally polarized collinear $Λ$ and transversely polarized TMD $Λ$ production inside jets in both $pp$ and $ep$ collisions. We f…
The aim of this work is to explore possible medium modifications to the substructure of inclusive charged jets in Pb-Pb relative to proton-proton collisions by measuring a set of jet shapes. The set of shapes includes the radial moment, $g$, and the momentum dispersion $p_{\mathrm{T}}$D. They provide complementary information on the fragmentation and can help to discriminate between two different scenarios: intra-jet broadening or collimation as a result of jet quenching. \noindent The shapes are measured in Pb--Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV with a constituent cutoff of 0.15 GeV/…
Recent LHC results indicate a suppression of jet fragmentation functions in Pb-Pb collisions at intermediate values of $ξ=\ln(1/z)$. This seems to contradict the picture of energy loss based on the induced QCD radiation that is expected to lead to the enhancement of in-medium fragmentation functions. We use an effective 1+1 dimensional quasi-Abelian model to describe the dynamical modification of jet fragmentation in the medium. We find that this approach describes the data, and argue that there is no contradiction between the LHC results and the picture of QCD radiation induced by the in-medi…
Measurements of fragmentation functions for jets associated with an isolated photon are presented for the first time in pp and PbPb collisions. The analysis uses data collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV. Fragmentation functions are obtained for jets with p$_\mathrm{T}^\text{jet} >$ 30 GeV in events containing an isolated photon with p$_\mathrm{T}^γ>$ 60 GeV, using charged tracks with transverse momentum p$_\mathrm{T}^\text{trk} >$ 1 GeV in a cone around the jet axis. The association with an isolated photon constrains the initia…
Based on a multiphase transport model, medium modifications of prompt photon-tagged jet fragmentation function are investigated by comparing prompt photon-tagged hadron azimuthal correlation in Au+Au collisions (0-40\%) with that in p+p collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}$ = 200 GeV. The measured modification factor, $I_{AA}$, increases with the increasing integration range of the away side, which reveals a medium-modified jet shape in which the medium enhancement of soft particles is preferentially located far away from the jet axis. The $I_{AA}$ largely results from strong interactions betwe…
The presented results are the first measurements at RHIC for direct $γ$-charged hadron azimuthal correlations in heavy ion collisions. We use these correlations to study the color charge density of the medium through the medium-induced modification of high-p$_T$ parton fragmentation. Azimuthal correlations of direct photons at high transverse energy (8 $<$ p$_T$ $<$ 16 GeV) with away-side charged hadrons of transverse momentum (3 $<$ p$_T$ $<$ 6 GeV/c) have been measured over a broad range of centrality for $Au+Au$ collisions and $p+p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV in the STAR experi…
Heavy quarks, produced in hard parton scatterings in the early stage of ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions, are ideal probes to investigate the properties of the Quark--Gluon Plasma (QGP) produced in such collisions. Measurements of heavy-flavour jets can provide constraints on energy-loss models. In particular, they add information on how the radiated energy is dissipated in the medium. Studies of angular correlations between heavy-flavour and charged particles allow us to characterize the heavy-quark fragmentation process and its possible modification in a hot nuclear matter environment…
We present a novel global QCD analysis of charged $D^{*}$-meson fragmentation functions at next-to-leading order accuracy. This is achieved by making use of the available data for single-inclusive $D^{*}$-meson production in electron-positron annihilation, hadron-hadron collisions, and, for the first time, in-jet fragmentation in proton-proton scattering. It is shown how to include all relevant processes efficiently and without approximations within the Mellin moment technique, specifically for the in-jet fragmentation cross section. The presented technical framework is generic and can be stra…
The energy loss of partons in high-energy nuclear collisions is one of the most interesting observables to probe the nature of the produced medium. Analyzing data from PbPb collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 2.76 TeV, recorded with the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector, parton energy loss is observed as a significant imbalance of dijet transverse momentum. To gain further understanding of the parton energy loss mechanism and how it manifests itself in the distribution of final state particles, fragmentation functions are studied for the leading and subleading jet in bins of dijet imba…
Jets containing a prompt J$/ψ$ meson are studied in lead-lead collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV, using the CMS detector at the LHC. Jets are selected to be in the transverse momentum range of 30 $\lt$ $p_\mathrm{T}$ $\lt$ 40 GeV. The J$/ψ$ yield in these jets is evaluated as a function of the jet fragmentation variable $z$, the ratio of the J$/ψ$ $p_\mathrm{T} $ to the jet $p_\mathrm{T}$. The nuclear modification factor, $R_\mathrm{AA}$, is then derived by comparing the yield in lead-lead collisions to the corresponding expectation based on proton-proton data, a…
QCD color coherence phenomena, like angular ordering, can be studied by looking at jet fragmentation. As the jet is fragmenting, it is expected to go through two different phases. First, there is QCD branching that is calculable in perturbative QCD. Next, the produced partons hadronize in a non-perturbative way later in a hadronization process. The jet fragmentation can be studied using the method of two particle correlations. A useful observable is the jet transverse fragmentation momentum $j_{\mathrm{T}}$, which describes the angular width of the jet. In this contribution, a differential stu…
A description of fragmentation functions which satisfy the momentum and isospin sum rules is presented in an effective quark theory. Concentrating on the pion fragmentation function, we first explain why the elementary (lowest order) fragmentation process q --> q πis completely inadequate to describe the empirical data, although the "crossed" process π--> q \bar{q} describes the quark distribution functions in the pion reasonably well. Taking into account cascade-like processes in a generalized jet-model approach, we then show that the momentum and isospin sum rules can be satisfied naturally,…
Jet fragmentation transverse momentum ($j_{\rm T}$) distributions are measured in proton-proton (pp) and proton-lead (p-Pb) collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV with the ALICE experiment at the LHC. Jets are reconstructed with the ALICE tracking detectors and electromagnetic calorimeter using the anti-$k_{\rm T}$ algorithm with resolution parameter $R=0.4$ in the pseudorapidity range $|η|<0.25$. The $j_{\rm T}$ values are calculated for charged particles inside a fixed cone with a radius $R = 0.4$ around the reconstructed jet axis. The measured $j_{\rm T}$ distributions are compared wi…
We address a recent puzzling result from the LHC: the jet fragmentation functions measured in $PbPb$ and $pp$ collisions appear very similar in spite of a large medium-induced energy loss (we will call this "jet fragmentation scaling", JFS). To model the real-time non-perturbative effects in the propagation of a high energy jet through the strongly coupled QCD matter, we adopt an effective dimensionally reduced description in terms of the $(1+1)$ quasi-Abelian Schwinger theory. This theory is exactly soluble at any value of the coupling and shares with QCD the properties of dynamical generatio…
The distributions of transverse momentum and longitudinal momentum fraction of charged particles in jets are measured in Pb+Pb and pp collisions with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The distributions are measured as a function of jet transverse momentum and rapidity. The analysis utilises an integrated luminosity of 0.14 nb$^{-1}$ of Pb+Pb data and 4.0 pb$^{-1}$ of pp data collected in 2011 and 2013, respectively, at the same centre-of-mass energy of 2.76 TeV per colliding nucleon pair. The distributions measured in pp collisions are used as a reference for those measured in Pb+Pb collisions in…
Direct photons, being colorless objects, provide an unmodified control particle that can be used in conjunction with jets to probe the quark-gluon plasma. To leading order the direct photon momentum balances the momentum of opposing jets and can therefore provide a clean handle on the jet energy. Therefore, angular correlations with direct photons provide a mechanism to study the fragmentation of the opposing jet without performing jet reconstruction. Jet fragmentation modification has been measured previously in PHENIX in central Au+Au collisions. Recent RHIC runs offer the potential to study…
This paper reviews recent experimental results on hard probes in heavy-ion collisions from the ALICE and STAR Collaboration. These studies include various observables characterizing jet properties like nuclear modification factors, recoil jet yields, di-jet and photon-jet energy imbalance, and the observables characterizing jet properties like jet fragmentation function and jet shapes; and measurements of high-$p_T$ charged hadrons from jet fragmentation and triggered particle correlations will be highlighted.
Measurements of charged-particle fragmentation functions of jets produced in ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions can provide insight into the modification of parton showers in the hot, dense medium created in the collisions. ATLAS has measured jets in $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 2.76$ TeV Pb+Pb collisions at the LHC using a data set recorded in 2011 with an integrated luminosity of 0.14 nb$^{-1}$. Jets were reconstructed using the anti-$k_{t}$ algorithm with distance parameter values $R$ = 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4. Distributions of charged-particle transverse momentum and longitudinal momentum fraction are re…
We present the measurement of a new set of jet shape observables for track-based jets in central Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} = 2.76$ TeV. The set of jet shapes includes the first radial moment or angularity, $g$; the momentum dispersion, $p_{\rm T}D$; and the difference between the leading and sub-leading constituent track transverse momentum, $LeSub$. These observables provide complementary information on the jet fragmentation and can constrain different aspects of the theoretical description of jet-medium interactions. The jet shapes were measured for a small resolution param…
Nuclear modification factors of single hadrons and dihadrons at large transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) in high-energy heavy-ion collisions are studied in a next-to-leading-order (NLO) perturbative QCD parton model. Parton fragmentation functions (FFs) in $A+A$ collisions are modified due to jet energy loss which is proportional to the jet transport coefficient $\hat{q}$ characterizing the interaction between the parton jet and the produced medium. By confronting 6 current sets of NLO parton FFs for large $p_{\rm T}$ hadron productions, we extract $\hat{q}$ quantitatively via a global fit to d…
The in-medium modification of the scale dependence of the fragmentation function in dense matter, brought about by higher twist corrections to the Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi (DGLAP) evolution equations, is derived. A phenomenologically motivated resummation is outlined which incorporates the next-to-leading twist single gluon emission kernel along with the vacuum emission kernel and provides an in-medium virtuality evolution of the final fragmentation function of a hard jet propagating through dense matter. The concept of a fragmentation function is generalized to include a dep…
