Measurements of inclusive hadron suppression and di-hadron azimuthal correlations in ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions at RHIC have provided important insights into jet quenching in hot QCD matter, but are limited in their sensitivity due to well-known biases. Full jet reconstruction in heavy-ion collisions would conceptually provide a direct measurement of the energy of the scattered parton before energy loss, alleviating such biases and allowing a measurement of the energy loss probability distribution in a model-independent way from hard probes. In these proceedings we utilize recent progress in the reconstruction of jets in the heavy ion environment and present the first measurement of the fragmentation function from fully reconstructed jets in heavy ion collisions. The fragmentation function measured in central Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}=200$ GeV will be presented and discussed with respect to p+p reference measurements.
An attempt to extract critical exponents gamma, beta and tau from data on gold nuclei fragmentation due to interactions with nuclear emulsion at energies 4.0 A GeV and 10.6 A GeV is presented. Based on analysis of Campi's 2nd charge moments, two subsets of data at each energy are selected from the inclusive data, corresponding to 'liquid' and 'gas' phases. The extracted values of critical exponents from the selected data sets are in agreement with predictions of 'liquid-gas' model of phase transition.
Jet fragmentation functions measured in e^+e^- and p+\bar{p} experiments are well-described on an inclusive hadron level by QCD-based calculations. Fragmentation is expected to be modified by the presence of a strongly interacting medium, but full theoretical description of this modification must still be developed. It has recently been suggested that particle-identified fragmentation functions may provide additional insight into the processes underlying jet quenching. To assess the applicability of QCD-based fragmentation calculations to RHIC data, and to provide a baseline with which to comp…
The measurement of jet fragmentation functions in p+p collisions at 200 GeV is of great interest because it provides a baseline to study jet quenching in heavy-ion collisions. It is expected that jet quenching in nuclear matter modifies the jet energy and multiplicity distributions, as well as the jet hadrochemical composition. Therefore, a systematic study of the fragmentation functions for charged hadrons and identified particles is a goal both in p+p and Au+Au collisions at RHIC. Studying fragmentation functions for identified particles is interesting in p+p by itself because it provides a …
New measurements of the total and partial fragmentation cross sections in the energy range 0.3-10 A GeV of Fe^{26+}, Si^{14+} and C^{6+} beams on polyethylene, CR39 and aluminum targets are presented. The exposures were made at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), USA, and Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba (HIMAC), Japan. The CR39 nuclear track detectors were used to identify the incident and survived beams and their fragments. The total fragmentation cross sections for all targets are almost energy independent while they depend on the target mass. The measured partial fragmentation cros…
We present new measurements of the total and partial fragmentation cross sections in the energy range 0.3-10 A GeV of 56Fe, 28Si and 12C beams on polyethylene, CR39 and aluminum targets. The exposures were made at BNL, USA and HIMAC, Japan. The CR39 nuclear track detectors were used to identify the incident and survived beams and their fragments. The total fragmentation cross sections for all targets are almost energy independent while they depend on the target mass. The measured partial fragmentation cross sections are also discussed.
The results of investigations of the relativistic $^9$Be nucleus fragmentation in emulsion which entails the production of two He fragments of an energy of 1.2~A~GeV are presented. The results of the angular measurements of the $^9$Be$\to$2He events are analyzed. The $^9$Be$\to^8$Be+n fragmentation channel involving the $^8$Be decay from the ground (0$^+$) and the first excited (2$^+$) states to two $α$ particles is observed to be predominant.
The relativistic invariant approach is applied to analyzing the 3.3 A GeV $^{22}$Ne fragmentation in a nuclear track emulsion. New results on few-body dissociations have been obtained from the emulsion exposures to 2.1 A GeV $^{14}$N and 1.2 A GeV $^{9}$Be nuclei. It can be asserted that the use of the invariant approach is an effective means of obtaining conclusions about the behavior of systems involving a few He nuclei at a relative energy close to 1 MeV per nucleon. The first observations of fragmentation of 1.2 A GeV $^{8}$B and $^{9}$C nuclei in emulsion are described. The presented resu…
The production of heavy neutron-rich nuclei has been investigated using cold fragmentation reactions of $^{238}$U projectiles at relativistic energies. The experiment performed at the high-resolving-power magnetic spectrometer FRS at GSI allowed to identify 45 new heavy neutron-rich nuclei: $^{205}$Pt, $^{207-210}$Au, $^{211-216}$Hg, $^{213-217}$Tl, $^{215-220}$Pb, $^{219-224}$Bi, $^{221-227}$Po, $^{224-229}$At, $^{229-231}$Rn and $^{233}$Fr. The production cross sections of these nuclei were also determined and used to benchmark reaction codes that predict the production of nuclei far from st…
Measurement of jet fragmentation property in p + p collisions provides a crucial baseline for the study of a possible, modified fragmentation behavior at the presence of the quark-gluon plasma. We describe the first measurement of jet fragmentation functions in sqrt(s) = 200 GeV p + p collisions at RHIC. This is facilitated by extending the linear least square unfolding technique employed by high energy and nuclear experiments to multidimensional spectra, which allows us to correct the inefficiencies in the jet energy response encountered at detectors such as PHENIX.
The first measurements of charged particle pseudorapidity distributions obtained from Au + Au collisions at the maximum RHIC energy sqrt(s_{NN}) = 200 GeV) using the PHOBOS detector are presented. A comparison of the pseudorapidity distributions at energies 130 and 200 GeV for different centrality bins is made, including an estimate of the total number of charged particles. Away from the mid-rapidity region, a comparison between Pb + Pb at SPS energy sqrt(s_{NN}) = 17.3 GeV and Au + Au at RHIC energy sqrt(s_{NN}) = 130 GeV indicates that the extent of the limiting fragmentation region grows by…
The STAR Collaboration reports measurements of differential jet shapes and semi-inclusive jet fragmentation functions in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=$ 200 GeV with the STAR detector at RHIC. Jet shapes, which represent the radial distribution of momentum carried by constituents, are measured differentially for (1) the charged particles transverse momentum and (2) the jet azimuthal angle relative to the second-order event plane. Based on the semi-inclusive population of jets recoiling from a high transverse momentum trigger hadron, jet fragmentation functions in 40-60% central h…
In this contribution we report $e^{+}e^{-}$ spectra with various invariant mass and p$_{T}$ differentials in Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=200 GeV and U$+$U collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=193 GeV. The structure of the t ($t\approx p^2_{\mathrm{T}}$) distributions of these mass regions will be shown and compared with the same distributions in ultra-peripheral collisions. Additionally, this contribution discusses first measurements of $μ^{+}μ^{-}$ invariant mass spectra from STAR's recently installed Muon Telescope Detector (MTD) in p$+$p and Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 Ge…
Yields of isotopically separated light fragments and residual nuclei produced in p(1GeV)+A collisions have been analyzed. For both fragmentation and spallation reactions isotopic scaling, i.e. factorization of the isotope ratios, was observed. A generalized isoscaling for arbitrary combinations of two systems has been demonstrated. The average isotopic temperature about 4 MeV for fragmentation process was found.
We present STAR's measurement of the $e^{+}e^{-}$ continuum as a function of centrality, invariant mass, and transverse momentum for U+U collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 193 GeV. Also reported are the acceptance-corrected $e^{+}e^{-}$ invariant mass spectra for minimum-bias Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 27, 39, and 62.4 GeV and U+U collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 193 GeV. The connection between the integrated $e^{+}e^{-}$ excess yields normalized by charge particle multiplicity ($dN_{ch}/dy$) at mid-rapidity and the lifetime of the fireball is discussed.
Dijets in PbPb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 2.76 TeV are studied with the CMS detector at the LHC. It is shown that the fragmentation functions of jets into charged particle tracks with transverse momenta pT > 4 GeV/c in PbPb collisions are similar to those in pp collisions, for both the leading and subleading jets. In addition, study of high statistics PbPb data acquired in 2011 shows that the quenching phenomenon exists up to highest jet pT values in excess of 300 GeV/c.
The jet fragmentation function of inclusive jets with transverse momentum pt above 100 GeV in PbPb collisions has been measured using reconstructed charged particles with pt above 1 GeV in a cone of radius 0.3 around the jet axis. A data sample of PbPb collisions collected in 2011 at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s[NN]) = 2.76 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 150 inverse microbarns is used. The results for PbPb collisions as a function of collision centrality and jet transverse momentum are compared to reference distributions based on pp data collected at the …
We present recent results from Al(beam)+Au(target) collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=4.9$ GeV and Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=4.5$\kern 0.16667em GeV from the STAR fixed-target (FXT) program. We report transverse mass spectra of protons, $K^0_S$ and $Λ$, rapidity density distributions of $π^\pm$, $K^0_S$ and $Λ$, directed flow of protons, $π^\pm$, $K^0_S$ and $Λ$, and elliptic flow of protons and $π^{\pm}$. These are the first measurements of pion directed and elliptic flow in this energy range at RHIC. Pion and proton elliptic flow show mass ordering. Measurements are compared with the publ…
We present the centrality dependent measurement of multiplicity and pseudorapidity distributions of charged particles and photons in Au + Au collisions at sqrt{s_NN} = 62.4 GeV. The charged particles and photons are measured in the pseudorapidity region 2.9 < eta < 3.9 and 2.3 < eta < 3.7, respectively. We have studied the scaling of particle production with the number of participating nucleons and the number of binary collisions. The photon and charged particle production in the measured pseudorapidity range has been shown to be consistent with energy independent limiting fragmentation behavi…
This paper presents the nuclide cross sections and the longitudinal velocity distributions of residues produced in the reactions of 136Xe and 124Xe at 1 A GeV in a lead target, measured at the high-resolution magnetic spectrometer, the Fragment Separator (FRS) of GSI. The data cover a broad range of isotopes of the elements between Z = 3 and Z = 56 for 136Xe and between Z = 5 and Z = 55 for 124Xe, reaching down to cross sections of a few microbarns. The velocity distributions exhibit a Gaussian shape for masses above A = 20, while more complex behaviour is observed for lighter masses. The isot…
Measurements of direct photon production in p+Pb and p+C collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}} = 17.4\mathrm{GeV}$ are presented. Upper limits on the direct photon yield as a function of $p_\mathrm{T}$ are derived and compared to the results for Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}} = 17.3$ GeV. The production of the $η$ meson, which is an important input to the direct photon signal extraction, has been determined in the $η\rightarrow 2γ$ channel for p+C collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}} = 17.4\mathrm{GeV}$.
The phase diagram of strongly interacting matter can be explored by analyzing data of heavy-ion collisions at different center of mass collision energies. For investigating the space-time structure of the hadron emission source, HBT correlation measurements are among the best tools. In this paper we present the latest results from the RHIC PHENIX experiment on such measurements in $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=$ 39 GeV and 62 GeV Au+Au collisions.
In this paper we present the study of the azimuthal correlation function of non-photonic electrons with low-pT hadrons produced in Cu+Cu collision at sqrt(s_NN)=200 GeV measured by STAR experiment at RHIC. Possible modification of the awayside peak is observed.
Measurements of inclusive hadron suppression and di-hadron azimuthal correlations have provided important insights into jet quenching in hot QCD matter. However, they do not provide access to the energy of the hard scattering and are limited in their sensitivity since they can be affected by biases toward hard fragmentation and small energy loss. Full jet reconstruction in heavy-ion collisions enables a complete study of the modification of jet structure due to energy loss, but is challenging due to the high-multiplicity environment. We present measurements of fully reconstructed di-jets at mi…
Jet quenching in relativistic heavy ion collisions can have multiple phenomenological consequences: jet energy loss, modification of jet substructure, and induced acoplanarity. In these proceedings, we report a measurement of the jet fragmentation function, which is one of the jet substructure observables, in peripheral Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV by the STAR experiment at RHIC. In particular, we use a semi-inclusive population of jets recoiling from a high transverse momentum trigger hadron. The fragmentation function is constructed from the fraction of the transverse momentum of…
Jet fragmentation in pp and PbPb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 2.76 TeV per nucleon pair was studied using data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. Fragmentation functions are constructed using charged-particle tracks with transverse momenta pt > 4 GeV for dijet events with a leading jet of pt > 100 GeV. The fragmentation functions in PbPb events are compared to those in pp data as a function of collision centrality, as well as dijet-pt imbalance. Special emphasis is placed on the most central PbPb events including dijets with unbalanced momentum, indicative of energy loss o…
Negatively charged hadron (h-) production in Au+Au collisions at BNL-RHIC is studied with the STAR experiment. Results are presented on h- multiplicity, pseudorapidity and transverse momentum distributions at sqrt(s_NN) = 130 GeV.
We report on the pT dependence of nuclear modification factors ($R_{CP}$) for Ks, Lambda, Xi and the Anti-Lambda/Ks ratios at mid-rapidity from Au+Au collisions at \sqrt{s_{NN}} = 39, 11.5 and 7.7 GeV. At \sqrt{s_{NN}} = 39 GeV, the $R_{CP}$ data shows a baryon/meson separation at intermediate pT and a suppression for Ks for pT up to 4.5 GeV/$c$; the Anti-Lambda/Ks shows baryon enhancement in the most central collisions. However, at \sqrt{s_{NN}} = 11.5 and 7.7 GeV, $R_{CP}$ shows much less baryon/meson separation and Anti-Lambda/Ks shows almost no baryon enhancement. These observations indica…
We investigate modification of the bottom quark production due to cold nuclear matter effects (CNM) at mid-rapidity in d+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200$ GeV at RHIC. Our results indicate that bottom production is not suppressed due to CNM effects in those collisions. We also found that shadowing and initial $k_T$ breadboarding for charm quarks explains at low $p_T$ ($p_T < 3$ GeV/c) the enhancement of heavy flavor decay electron yield in d+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200$ GeV compared to p+p.
Particle correlations at small relative velocities can be used to study the space-time evolution of hot and expanding system created in heavy ion collisions. Baryon and antibaryon source sizes extracted from baryon-baryon correlations complement the information deduced from the correlation studies of identical pions. Correlations of non-identical particles are sensitive also to the space-time asymmetry of their emission. High statistics data set of STAR experiment allows us to present the results of baryon-baryon correlation measurements at various centralities and energies, as well as to take…
Upper limits on direct photon production were determined as a function of the transverse momentum for 0.7 < pT <= 3.2 GeV/c with the WA98 experiment in p+C and p+Pb collisions at sqrt(sNN) = 17.4 GeV. The results are compared to direct photon measurements in Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt(sNN) = 17.3 GeV by WA98. Implications for a possible thermal direct photon contribution are discussed.
Nuclear fragments emitted at 3.5 degrees in 12C fragmentation at 0.6 GeV/nucleon have been measured. The spectra obtained are used for testing the predictions of four ion-ion interaction models: INCL++, BC, LAQGSM03.03 and QMD as well as for the comparison with the analytical parametrization in the framework of thermodynamical picture of fragmentation.
We report the measurements of $p_T$ spectra of $K^*$ up to intermediate $p_T$ region in mid-rapidity through its hadronic decay channel using the STAR detector in Au+Au and Cu+Cu collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}$= 62.4 GeV and 200 GeV. Particle ratios such as $K^{*}/K$ and $K^{*}/ϕ$ is used to understand the rescattering and regeneration effect on $K^{*}$ production in the hadronic medium. The $K^*$ $v_{2}$ measurement using a high statistics Au+Au 200 GeV dataset and nuclear modification factor measurement supports the quark coalescence model of particle production in the intermediate $p…
During RHIC 2010 run, STAR has collected a large amount of minimum-bias, central and high $p_{T}$ trigger data in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 39$, 62.4 and 200 GeV with detector configuration for minimum photonic conversion background. In this article we report on a new high precision measurement of non-photonic electron mid-rapidity invariant yield, improved nuclear modification factor and $v_{2}$ in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200$ GeV. We also present measurements of mid-rapidity invariant yield at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 62.4$ and $v_{2}$ at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 39$ and 62.4 GeV.
The STAR Experiment at RHIC is capable of a wide variety of measurements of the production of strange hadrons in nuclear collisions. Measurements of the relative production of strange baryons, antibaryons, and kaons can shed light on the baryon densities achieved in these collisions and on the validity of models for production yields. We will present here preliminary results on these measurements at RHIC energies of sqrt(s_NN) = 130 GeV and 200 GeV and discuss comparisons to models.
The PHENIX experiment has measured direct photons at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV in $p+p$, $d$+Au and Au+Au collisions. For $p_{T}$ $<$ 4 GeV/$c$, the internal conversion into $e^{+}e^{-}$ pairs has been used to measure the direct photons in Au+Au.
Azimuthal correlations of high-pT charged hadron pairs from (di-)jet-fragmentation are studied at mid-rapidity in Au+Au collisions at vsNN=200 GeV. The distribution of jet-associated partner hadrons (1.0< pT <2.5 GeV/c) per trigger hadron (2.5< pT <4.0 GeV/c) is found to vary with collision centrality, both in shape and in yield, indicating a significant effect of the nuclear collision medium on the (di-)jet fragmentation process.
The presented results are the first measurements at RHIC for direct $γ$-charged hadron azimuthal correlations in heavy ion collisions. We use these correlations to study the color charge density of the medium through the medium-induced modification of high-p$_T$ parton fragmentation. Azimuthal correlations of direct photons at high transverse energy (8 $<$ p$_T$ $<$ 16 GeV) with away-side charged hadrons of transverse momentum (3 $<$ p$_T$ $<$ 6 GeV/c) have been measured over a broad range of centrality for $Au+Au$ collisions and $p+p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV in the STAR experi…
The STAR Collaboration presents new measurements of inclusive charged hadron distributions for $p_{T} <$ 12 GeV/c from Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV. Charged hadron suppression at high $p_{T}$ is similar in shape and magnitude at all centralities to that observed previously at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 130 GeV for $p_{T} <$ 6 GeV/c. The ratio of spectra from central and peripheral Au+Au collisions shows that hadron suppression is approximately constant within 6 $< p_{T} <$ 12 GeV/c. The ratios of charged hadron spectra at the two beam energies show a 15-20% increase in yield at low $p_…
The measurement of J/{psi} azimuthal anisotropy is presented as a function of transverse momentum for different centralities in Au+Au collisions at {sqrt{s_{NN}}} = 200 GeV. The measured J/{psi} elliptic flow is consistent with zero within errors for transverse momentum between 2 and 10 GeV/c. Our measurement suggests that J/{psi} with relatively large transverse momentum are not dominantly produced by coalescence from thermalized charm quarks, when comparing to model calculations.
Azimuthal correlations between high energy photons from $π^0$ decay ($p_T^γ < 10.5$ GeV) and charged hadrons ($p_T^{hadron}$ above a threshold of 2, 3 or 4 GeV/c) have been measured in p+p and d+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV. Clear jet-like correlations are observed at $Δϕ=0$ and 180 degrees, with peak widths decreasing with increasing $p_T^{hadron}$. Jet $<j_T>$ and $\sqrt{< k_T^2 >}$ in d+Au collisions are deduced from the distributions. {\it These results are presented in Quark Matter 2004 poster session.
In this paper we present the study of the azimuthal correlation function of non-photonic electrons with low-pT hadrons produced in Cu+Cu collision at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV measured by STAR experiment at RHIC. Possible modification of the awayside peak is observed.
New measurements are presented for charged hadron azimuthal correlations at mid-rapidity in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 62.4 and 200 GeV. They are compared to earlier measurements obtained at sqrt(s_NN) = 130 GeV and in Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 17.2 GeV. Sizeable anisotropies are observed with centrality and transverse momentum (p_T) dependence characteristic of elliptic flow (v_2). For a broad range of centralities, the observed magnitudes and trends of the differential anisotropy, v_2(p_T), change very little over the collision energy range sqrt(s_NN) = 62-200 GeV, indicating sa…
We present preliminary results of Non-Photonic Electron (NPE) production, NPE-hadron azimuthal correlation as well as NPE elliptic flow studies at midrapidity using a data set with high statistics and low photon conversion background from $Au+Au$ collisions at $\sqrt {S_{NN}} = 200$ GeV collected at RHIC in Run 2010.
We present elliptic flow, $v_2$, measurements for charged and identified particles at midrapidity in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 7.7, 11.5 and 39 GeV at STAR. We compare the inclusive charged hadron $v_2$ to those from high energies at RHIC ($\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 62.4 and 200 GeV), at LHC ($\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV). A significant difference in $v_2$ between baryons and anti-baryons is observed and the difference increases with decreasing beam energy. We observed the $v_2$ of $ϕ$ meson is systematically lower than other particles in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 11.5 GeV.
In this talk, we report an analysis of elliptic flow ($v_2$), non-flow ($δ_{2}$), and $v_2$ fluctuations ($σ_{v_{2}}$) for the STAR collaboration at middle rapidity in $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV Au+Au collisions. We compare the results to models of the fluctuations in the initial eccentricity of the overlap zone.
Different regions on the QCD phase diagram can be investigated by varying the collision energy and the centrality in heavy-ion collisions. In our latest measurements at the PHENIX experiment at RHIC, we utilize Lévy-type sources to describe the measured HBT correlation functions. In this paper we report the current status of the analysis of the centrality and beam energy dependence of the Lévy source parameters in Au+Au collisions from $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 15 GeV to $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV.
We present first measurements of the pseudorapidity and azimuth $(η,ϕ)$ bin-size dependence of event-wise mean transverse momentum $<p_{t} >$ fluctuations for Au-Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200$ GeV. We invert that dependence to obtain $p_t$ autocorrelations on differences $(η_Δ,ϕ_Δ)$ interpreted to represent velocity/temperature distributions on ($η,ϕ$). The general form of the autocorrelations suggests that the basic correlation mechanism is parton fragmentation. The autocorrelations vary strongly with collision centrality, which suggests that fragmentation is strongly modified by a di…
We present the mid-rapidity $(D^{0} + \bar{D^{0}})/2$ yield measured in $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV Cu+Cu collisions at RHIC via direct reconstruction through the $Kπ$ decay channel. A charm cross-section is reported and compared to theoretical predictions and to previous RHIC experimental results.
The transverse structure of jets was studied via jet fragmentation transverse momentum ($j_{\rm{T}}$) distributions, obtained using two-particle correlations in proton-proton and proton-lead collisions, measured with the ALICE experiment at the LHC. The highest transverse momentum particle in each event is used as the trigger particle and the region $3 < p_{\rm{Tt}} < 15$ GeV/$c$ is explored in this study. The measured distributions show a clear narrow Gaussian component and a wide non-Gaussian one. Based on Pythia simulations, the narrow component can be related to non-perturbative hadronizat…
We report preliminary results of hypertriton observation in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC. We have identified 157 +- 30 candidates in the current sample containing ~10^8 Au+Au events at \sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200 GeV. The production rate of hypertriton is close to that of helium 3. No extra penalty factor is observed for hypertriton, in contrast to results observed at the AGS.
The BRAHMS collaboration has measured inclusive proton and anti-proton spectra at several rapidities (0 < y < 3) for Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV. Rapidity densities of protons, anti-protons, and net-protons [N(p)-N(p-bar)] are presented as a function of rapidity.
The yields of identified particles have been measured at RHIC for Au+Au collisions at sqrt{s_NN} = 200 GeV using the PHOBOS spectrometer. The ratios of antiparticle to particle yields near mid-rapidity are presented. The first measurements of the invariant yields of charged pions, kaons and protons at very low transverse momenta are also shown.
The di-electron analysis for 200 GeV p+p collisions is presented in this article. The cocktail simulations of di-eletrons from light flavor meson decays and heavy flavor decays are reported and compared with data. The perspectives for di-lepton measurements in Au+Au collisions are discussed.
In this proceedings, we present our first measurements of $ϕ$ meson and $Ξ^-$ hyperon production in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 3 GeV. Various models including thermal and transport model calculations are compared to data, these results imply that the matter produced in the 3 GeV Au+Au collisions is considerably different from that at higher energies.
Mid-rapidity Omega and anti-Omega production in Au+Au collisions at RHIC is studied with the STAR experiment. We report preliminary results on yields and spectra at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 130 and 200 GeV. Production relative to negatively charged hadrons (h-) as well as thermal freeze-out and collective expansion are discussed.
Direct photon production is an important observable in heavy ion collisions as photons are penetrating and therefore largely insensetive to final state effects that lead to jet quenching. Measurements of the fragmentation component to prompt photon yields in p+p and Au+Au collisions will provide both an important test of pQCD predictions and of predictions for modifications of this component in heavy ion collisions. By selecting photons associated with jets on the near side using hadron-photon correlations, fragmentation photons can be measured directly.
We present $ΛΛ$ correlation measurements in heavy-ion collisions for Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}= 200$ GeV using the STAR experiment at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC). The Lednický-Lyuboshitz analytical model has been used to fit the data to obtain a source size, a scattering length and an effective range. Implications of the measurement of the $ΛΛ$ correlation function and interaction parameters for di-hyperon searches are discussed.
The properties of the phi-meson have been measured via its e+e- and K+K- decay channels in Au+Au collisions at sqrt{s_NN} = 200 GeV by the PHENIX experiment. The preliminary yields and temperatures derived for the minimum bias and several centrality bins in both decay channels are presented.
Correlations in the hadron distributions produced in relativistic Au+Au collisions are studied in the discrete wavelet expansion method. The analysis is performed in the space of pseudorapidity (|eta| < 1) and azimuth (full 2 pi) in bins of transverse momentum (p_t) from 0.14 < p_t < 2.1 GeV/c. In peripheral Au+Au collisions a correlation structure ascribed to mini-jet fragmentation is observed. It evolves with collision centrality and p_t in a way not seen before which suggests strong dissipation of minijet fragmentation in the longitudinally-expanding medium.
