The theory of defects in ordered and ill-ordered media is a well-advanced part of condensed matter physics. Concepts developed in this field also occur in the study of spacetime singularities, namely: i)- the topological theory of quantized defects (Kibble's cosmic strings) and ii)- the Volterra process for continuous defects, used to classify the Poincaré symmetry breakings. We reassess the classification of Minkowski spacetime defects in the same theoretical frame, starting from the conjecture that these defects fall into two classes, as on they relate to massive particles or to radiation. This we justify on the empirical evidence of the Hubble's expansion. We introduce timelike and null congruences of geodesics treated as ordered media, viz. 'm'-crystals of massive particles and 'r'-crystals of massless particles, with parallel 4-momenta in M^4. Classifying their defects (or 'forms') we find (i) 'm'- and 'r'- Volterra continuous line defects and (ii) quantized topologically stable 'r'-defects, these latter forms being of various dimensionalities. Besides these 'perfect' forms, there are 'imperfect' disclinations that bound misorientation walls in three dimensions. We also speculate on the possible relation of these forms with the large-scale structure of the Universe.
We investigate the leading-order behavior of matter fields in the preinflationary era using the semiclassical approximation. Many inflationary models assume without supporting arguments that the Universe was radiation dominated prior to inflation, leading to modifications of cosmological observables, such as the Cosmic Microwave Background power spectrum. In previous work, we demonstrated that conformally coupled scalar fields do have a radiation-like contribution to the stress-energy tensor at sufficiently early times. In this work, we extend these arguments to apply to massless spin-1 fields…
We propose a new method to constrain alternative models for dark matter with observations. Specifically, we consider hybrid models in which cold dark matter (CDM) phenomena on cosmological scales and Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) phenomena on galactic scales share a common origin. Various such models were recently proposed. They typically contain a mode that is directly coupled to matter (for MOND) and has a non-relativistic sound speed (for CDM). This allows even non-relativistic objects like stars to lose energy through Cherenkov radiation. This is unusual. Most modified gravity models …
A scheme for incorporating the creation of radiation and matter into the cosmological evolution is introduced so that it becomes possible to merge the times before and after the creation of radiation and matter in a single scale factor in Robertson-Walker metric. This scheme is illustrated through a toy model that has the prospect of constituting a basis for a realistic model.
The mechanism of the generation of dark matter and dark radiation from the evaporation of primordial black holes is very interesting. We consider the case of Kerr black holes to generalize previous results obtained in the Schwarzschild case. For dark matter, the results do not change dramatically and the bounds on warm dark matter apply similarly: in particular, the Kerr case cannot save the scenario of black hole domination for light dark matter. For dark radiation, the expectations for $ΔN_{eff}$ do not change significantly with respect to the Schwarzschild case, but for an enhancement in th…
We present the second-order gravitational dynamics for a spacetime inhabited by matter fields which feature vacuum birefringence. The derivation follows a perturbative variant of the covariant constructive gravity program, ensuring diffeomorphism invariance of gravity and causal compatibility of matter theory and gravity. A subsequent spatio-temporal split of this theory reveals the presence of unphysical artifacts, which are cured by imposing constraints on the gravitational constants, reducing their number from ten to seven. Within this sector, we derive the gravitational radiation emitted b…

In this work the homogeneous and isotropic Universe of Friedmann-Robertson-Walker is studied in the presence of two fluids: stiff matter and radiation described by the Schutz's formalism. We obtain to the classic case the behaviour of the scale factor of the universe. For the quantum case the wave packets are constructed and the wave function of the universe is found.

Dynamics of Dark Matter in Baryon-Radiation Plasma: Perspectives using Meschersky equation
An astrophysical (cosmological) black hole forming in a cosmological context will be subject to a flux of infalling matter and radiation, which will cause the outer apparent horizon (a marginal trapping surface) to be spacelike \cite{ellisetal14}. As a consequence the radiation emitted close to the apparent horizon no longer arrives at infinity with a diverging redshift. Standard calculations of the emission of Hawking radiation then indicate that no blackbody radiation is emitted to infinity by the black hole in these circumstances, hence there will also then be no black hole evaporation proc…
We present novel analytical solutions for linear-order gravitational waves or tensor perturbations in a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe containing two perfect fluids, radiation and pressureless dust, and allowing for neutrino anisotropic stress. One of the results is applicable to any sub-horizon gravitational wave in such a universe. Another result is applicable to gravitational waves of primordial origin, for example produced during inflation, and works both before and after they cross the horizon. These results improve on analytical approximations previously set out in the literatu…
We revisit the effects of an early matter-dominated era on gravitational waves induced by scalar perturbations. We carefully take into account the evolution of the gravitational potential, the source of these induced gravitational waves, during a gradual transition from an early matter-dominated era to the radiation-dominated era, where the transition timescale is comparable to the Hubble time at that time. Realizations of such a gradual transition include the standard perturbative reheating with a constant decay rate. Contrary to previous works, we find that the presence of an early matter-do…
Cosmological $N$-body simulations are the standard tool to study the emergence of the observed large-scale structure of the Universe. Such simulations usually solve for the gravitational dynamics of matter within the Newtonian approximation, thus discarding general relativistic effects such as the coupling between matter and radiation ($\equiv$ photons and neutrinos). In this paper we investigate novel hybrid simulations which incorporate interactions between radiation and matter to the leading order in General Relativity, whilst evolving the matter dynamics in full non-linearity according to …
We study possibilities to explain the whole dark matter abundance by primordial black holes (PBHs) or to explain the merger rate of binary black holes estimated from the gravitational wave detections by LIGO/Virgo. We assume that the PBHs are originated in a radiation- or matter-dominated era from large primordial curvature perturbation generated by inflation. We take a simple model-independent approach considering inflation with large running spectral indices which are parametrized by $n_\text{s}, α_\text{s}$, and $β_\text{s}$ consistent with the observational bounds. The merger rate is fitte…
Modified gravity models often contain modes that couple to normal matter and propagate with slightly less than the speed of light. High-energy cosmic rays then lose energy due to Cherenkov radiation, which constrains such models. This is also true for some MOND (Modified Newtonian Dynamics) models. However, these constraints are difficult to make precise because MOND is inherently non-linear and because the results may depend on the specific high-acceleration behavior of these models, i.e. the behavior outside the MOND regime. Recently, various hybrid MOND dark matter models were proposed, whe…
According to the standard model of cosmology, the early universe has been dominated by radiation or non-relativistic matter in several eras of its history. However, many cosmological calculations involving particle processes are commonly done using Minkowskian results for them, although, for more precise treatment, quantum field theory in curved spacetime is needed. This paper aims to fill this gap by presenting decay rates for matter and radiation dominated universes in this more precise treatment. We provide a study of the average decay rates for a process where a conformally coupled massive…
It has recently been suggested that black hole remnants of primordial origin are not a viable dark matter candidate since they would have far too large a velocity due to the recoil of Hawking radiation. We re-examined this interesting claim in more details and found that it does not rule out such a possibility. On the contrary, for models based on non-commutativity of spacetime near the Planck scale, essentially the same argument can be used to estimate the scale at which non-commutativity effect becomes important. If dark matter "particles" are non-commutative black holes that have passed the…
We study a black hole in an expanding Universe during the radiation-dominated stage. In the case when the black hole radius is much smaller than the cosmological horizon, we present a solution of the Einstein equations for the metric, the matter density and velocity distributions. At distances much smaller than the cosmological horizon the solution features quasi-stationary accretion, while at large distances the solution asymptotes the homogeneous radiation dominated FLRW. We discuss how our solution is related to the McVittie solution. The obtained results can be applied, in particular, for …
We investigate the creation of dark matter particles as a result of the decay of the scalar field in the framework of warm inflationary models, by using the irreversible thermodynamics of open systems with matter creation/annihilation. We consider the scalar fields, radiation and dark matter as an interacting three component cosmological fluid in a homogeneous and isotropic Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) Universe, in the presence of the curvature terms. The thermodynamics of open systems as applied together with the gravitational field equations to the three component cosmological …
