In this talk we discuss top-quark pair production in association with an additional jet. We present numerical results based on a next-to-leading order QCD calculation.
We present the NLO corrections to the Wilson coefficients of the Delta F = 2 Hamiltonians in the strong interacting sector of the MSSM, responsible for neutral meson oscillations. Such corrections, combined with the NLO anomalous dimension matrix for the Delta F = 2 operators and the corresponding hadronic matrix elements calculated on the lattice, allow for the first time a full NLO phenomenological analysis of the observables related to meson oscillations. We present preliminary results in the B_d - B_d bar sector.

We present a phenomenological study of the current status of the application of our approach of {\it exact} amplitude-based resummation in quantum field theory to precision QCD calculations, by realistic MC event generator methods, as needed for precision LHC physics. We discuss recent results as they relate to the interplay of the attendant IR-Improved DGLAP-CS theory of one of us and the precision of exact NLO matrix-element matched parton shower MC's in the Herwig6.5 environment as determined by comparison to recent LHC experimental observations on single heavy gauge boson production and de…
I summarize phenomenological LHC13 studies of the effect of dimension six effective operators on the inclusive cross section and differential distributions for the t-channel single top process at NLO in QCD.
We propose a phenomenological study of the next-to-leading Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov (BFKL) approach applied to the data on the proton structure function $F_2$ measured at HERA in the small-$x_{Bj}$ region.
We analyse the phenomenological consequences of target and current fragmentation contributions at next to leading order in semi-inclusive spin dependent deep inelastic scattering asymmetries.
Several aspects of next-to-leading (NLO) order corrections to see-saw formulas are discussed and phenomenologically relevant situations are identified. We generalize the formalism to calculate the NLO terms developed for the type I see-saw to variants like the inverse, double or linear see-saw, i.e., to cases in which more than two mass scales are present. In the standard type I case with very heavy fermion singlets the sub-leading terms are negligible. However, effects in the percent regime are possible when sub-matrices of the complete neutral fermion mass matrix obey a moderate hierarchy, e…
We present an interface between the multipurpose NLO Monte Carlo tool MadGraph5_aMC@NLO and the automated one-loop amplitude generator GoSam. As a first application of this novel framework, we compute the NLO corrections to $pp \to t\bar{t}H$ and $pp \to t\bar{t}γγ$ matched to a parton shower. In the phenomenological analyses of these processes, we focus our attention on observables which are sensitive to the polarisation of the top quarks.
We present the NLO (two-loop) QCD corrections to Higgs boson pair production in gluon fusion within Standard Model Effective Theory (SMEFT), including also squared dimension-6 operators and double insertions of operators. The different options to truncate the EFT expansion are contrasted to a non-linear EFT approach (HEFT) and their effects are illustrated by several phenomenological examples.
We present the results of a calculation of the perturbative QCD corrections for the semileptonic inclusive width of a heavy flavored meson. Within the Heavy Quark Expansion we analytically compute the QCD correction to the coefficient of power suppressed contribution of the chromo-magnetic operator in the limit of vanishing mass of the final state quark. The important phenomenological applications are decays of bottom mesons, and to the less extend, charmed mesons.
After reviewing the main features of the GoSam framework for automated one-loop calculations, we present a selection of recent phenomenological results obtained with it. In particular, we focus on the recent calculation of NLO QCD corrections to the production of a Higgs boson in conjunction with jets at the LHC.
In view of the good agreement between the LHCb prompt-eta(c) data at sqrt(s)=7 and 8 TeV and the NLO colour-singlet model predictions --i.e. the leading v^2 NRQCD contribution--, we provide predictions in the LHCb acceptance for the forthcoming 13 TeV analysis bearing on data taken during the LHC Run2. We also provide predictions for sqrt(s)=115 GeV for proton-hydrogen collisions in the fixed-target mode which could be studied during the LHC Run3. Our predictions are complemented by a full theoretical uncertainty analysis. In addition to cross section predictions, we elaborate on the uncertain…
The $B_c$ meson pair, including pairs of both pseudoscalar states and vector states, productions in high energy photon-photon interaction are investigated at the next-to-leading order (NLO) accuracy in the nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics (NRQCD) factorization formalism. The corresponding cross sections at the future $e^+e^-$ colliders with $\sqrt{s}=250$ GeV and $500$ GeV are evaluated. Numerical result indicates that the inclusion of the NLO corrections shall greatly suppress the scale dependence and enhance the prediction reliability. In addition to the phenomenological meaning, the N…
The longitudinal proton structure function, $F_L(x,Q^2)$, from the $k_t$ factorization formalism by using the unintegrated parton distribution functions (UPDF) which are generated through the KMR and MRW procedures. The LO UPDF of the KMR prescription is extracted, by taking into account the PDF of Martin et al, i.e. MSTW2008-LO and MRST99-NLO and next, the NLO UPDF of the MRW scheme is generated through the set of MSTW2008-NLO PDF as the inputs. The different aspects of $F_L(x,Q^2)$ in the two approaches, as well as its perturbative and non-perturbative parts are calculated. Then the comparis…
We present partial results on NLO and NNLO QCD, and NLO electroweak corrections to polarized top quark decays. In parallel we derive positivity bounds for the polarized structure functions in polarized top quark decays and check them against the perturbative corrections to the structure functions.
We analyse the production of a Higgs boson in association with a Z boson at hadron colliders in the Standard Model and some simple extensions. We show how multi-jet merging algorithms at leading and next-to-leading order for the loop-induced gluon fusion and the Drell-Yan like quark-induced processes, respectively, improve the descriptions for various differential distributions, in particular those that involve the production of additional jets. The phenomenological studies focus on two relevant channels of Higgs boson decays, namely $H\rightarrow invisible$ and $H\rightarrow b\bar{b}$. We fin…
We present the complete NLO contributions to the pp -> e^+ v_e mu^- vbar_m b bbar + X process in the four flavour scheme, i.e. with massive b quarks, and its contribution to the H -> WW -> llvv measurement in the 1-jet bin at the LHC. This background process includes top pair, single top and non-top quark-resonant contributions. The uncertainty at NLO from renormalisation and factorisation scale dependence is about +30% -20%. We show that the NLO corrections are relatively small, and that separating this background in top pair, Wt and b-quark associated llvv is a fair approximation.
Reaching next-to-leading order accuracy in perturbative calculations of particle production in QCD at high energy is essential for reliable phenomenological applications. In recent years, the Color Glass Condensate effective theory (the natural framework for such calculations) has indeed been promoted to NLO accuracy. However, the first NLO calculation of single-inclusive hadron production met with an unexpected difficulty: the cross-section suddenly turns negative at transverse momenta of the order of a few GeV, in a range where perturbation theory is expected to be reliable. We summarize rec…
We present a phenomenological study of the small-x behaviour of gluon distribution function $G(x,Q^2)$ at next-to-leading order (NLO) and next-to-next-to-leading order(NNLO) in light of the nonlinear Gribov-Ryskin-Levin-Mueller-Qiu (GLR-MQ)evolution equation by keeping the transverse size of the gluons ($\sim 1/Q$) fixed. We consider the NLO and NNLO corrections, of the gluon-gluon spitting function $P_{gg} (z)$ and strong coupling constant $α_s (Q^2)$. We have suggested semi-analytical solutions based on Regge like ansatz of gluon density $G(x,Q^2)$, which are supposed to be valid in the mode…
This short summary reviews the recent progress in the computation of higher-order corrections to W+b W-antib production. In addition, new phenomenological studies reveal potential problems that may affect precision measurements at the LHC.
We compute the differential and total rate of the semileptonic decay of polarized top-quarks $t\to \ell ν_\ell + b{\rm jet} + {\rm jet}$ at next-to-leading order (NLO) in the QCD coupling with an off-shell intermediate $W$ boson. We present several normalized distributions, in particular those that reflect the $t$-spin analyzing powers of the lepton, the b-jet and the $W^+$ boson at LO and NLO QCD.
We present results for the QCD next-to-leading order (NLO) calculation of single-top t-channel production in the 4-flavour scheme, interfaced to Parton Shower (PS) Monte Carlo programs according to the POWHEG and MC@NLO methods. Comparisons between the two methods, as well as with the corresponding process in the 5-flavour scheme are presented. For the first time results for typical kinematic distributions of the spectator-b jet are presented in an NLO+PS approach.
We match next-to-leading order QCD results for single-top hadroproduction with parton shower Monte Carlo simulations, according to the prescription of the MC@NLO formalism. In this way, we achieve the first practical implementation in MC@NLO of a process that has both initial- and final-state collinear singularities. We show that no difficulties of principle arise from this complication, and present selected results relevant to the Tevatron.
We present the NLO QCD corrections to the production of a W+W- pair and two b-jets, including the leptonic decays of the W bosons. Contributions from singly resonant and non-resonant top quarks are fully taken into account. We also discuss observables relevant for top quark mass measurements and top quark asymmetries.
We apply the method of perturbative fragmentation to study bottom fragmentation in top decay. We present the energy spectrum of b-quarks and b-flavoured hadrons in top decay
We discuss the calculation of charged Higgs boson production in association with top quark in the MC@NLO framework for combining NLO matrix elements with a parton shower. The process is defined in a model independent manner for wide applicability, and can be used if the charged Higgs boson mass is either greater or less than the mass of the top quark. For the latter mass region, care is needed in defining the charged Higgs production mode due to interference with top pair production. We give a suitable definition applicable in an NLO (plus parton shower) context, and present example results fo…
We present a calculation of the NLO QCD corrections to the loop-induced production of a photon pair through gluon fusion, including massive top quarks at two loops, where the two-loop integrals are calculated numerically. Matching the fixed-order NLO results to a threshold expansion, we obtain accurate results around the top quark pair production threshold. We analyse how the top quark threshold corrections affect distributions of the photon pair invariant mass and comment on the possibility of determining the top quark mass from precision measurements of the diphoton invariant mass spectrum.
The calculation of next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative corrections at fixed operator dimension in Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) has been a topic of much recent interest. In this paper we obtain the NLO corrections from dimension-6 operators to the Higgs boson decays $h\to f\bar{f}$, where the fermions $f \in \{μ,τ,c\}$. This extends previous results for $h\to b\bar{b}$ to all phenomenologically relevant Higgs boson decays into fermions, and provides the basis for future precision analyses of these decays within effective field theory. We point out the benefits of studying …
Presented are complete next-to-leading order electroweak (NLO EW) corrections to top-squark pair production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). At this order, also effects from the interference of EW and QCD contributions have to be taken into account. Moreover, photon-induced top-squark production is considered as an additional partonic channel, which arises from the non-zero photon density in the proton.
We consider whether Wt production can be considered as a distinct production process at the LHC, separate from top pair production with which it interferes. We argue that this problem can be meaningfully addressed in an MC@NLO calculation, and give two definitions of the Wt mode whose difference measures the degree of interference between Wt and top pair production. These are then implemented in the MC@NLO software framework, and results given which demonstrate that it is indeed legitimate to isolate the Wt process, subject to adequate cuts.
We present a detailed phenomenological analysis of the production of a Standard Model Higgs boson in association with up to three jets. We consider the gluon fusion channel using an effective theory in the large top-quark mass limit. Higgs boson production in gluon fusion constitutes an irreducible background to the vector boson fusion (VBF) process; hence the precise knowledge of its characteristics is a prerequisite for any measurement in the VBF channel. The calculation is carried out at next-to-leading order (NLO) in QCD in a fully automated way by combining the two programs GoSam and Sher…
We present an analysis of the forward-backward asymmetry in the production of top quark pairs at the Tevatron collider. We use novel Monte Carlo methods for merging matrix elements and parton showers to combine NLO QCD predictions for tt and tt+jet production. Theoretical uncertainties are quantified in detail. We find agreement with experimental data on the transverse momentum dependence of the asymmetry.
We present updated NLO predictions for the electroweak t-channel production of heavy quarks at the Tevatron and at the LHC. We consider production of single top and fourth generation t' starting from both 2 to 2 and 2 to 3 Born processes. Predictions for tb' and t'b' cross sections at NLO are also given for the first time. A thorough study of the theoretical uncertainties coming from parton distribution functions, renormalisation and factorisation scale dependence and heavy quark masses is performed.
We present predictions for the production cross section of t-quark pair production in association with a Z boson at the next-to-leading order (NLO) accuracy using matrix elements obtained from the HELAC-Oneloop package. We use the subtraction method for computing the radiative corrections as implemented in the POWHEG-Box, which was also used in several other computations of similar complexity.
We present a next-to-leading order calculation of single-top production interfaced to Shower Monte Carlo programs, implemented according to the POWHEG method. A detailed comparison with MC@NLO and PYTHIA is carried out for several observables, for the Tevatron and LHC colliders.
The process pp -> top anti-top bottom anti-bottom + X represents a very important background reaction to searches at the LHC, in particular to top anti-top H production where the Higgs boson decays into a bottom anti-bottom pair. A successful analysis of top anti-top H at the LHC requires the knowledge of direct top anti-top bottom anti-bottom production at NLO in QCD. We take the first step in this direction upon calculating the NLO QCD corrections to the subprocess initiated by quark anti-quark annihilation.
We study the hadroproduction of a $Wb$ pair in association with a light jet, focusing on the dominant $t$-channel contribution and including exactly at the matrix-element level all non-resonant and off-shell effects induced by the finite top-quark width. Our simulations are accurate to the next-to-leading order in QCD, and are matched to the HERWIG6 and PYTHIA8 parton showers through the MC@NLO method. We present phenomenological results relevant to the 8 TeV LHC, and carry out a thorough comparison to the case of on-shell $t$-channel single-top production. We formulate our approach so that it…
The next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections to top anti-top bottom anti-bottom (tTbB) production at the LHC reveal that the scale choice adopted in previous lowest-order simulations underestimates the tTbB cross section by a factor two. We discuss a new dynamical scale that stabilizes the perturbative predictions and describe the impact of the corrections on the shape of distributions. We also account for the techniques employed to compute the six-particle one-loop amplitudes with high CPU efficiency.
At the LHC the CP properties of the top-quark Yukawa interaction can be probed through Higgs production in gluon fusion or in association with top quarks. We consider the possibility for both CP-even and CP-odd couplings to the top quark to be present, and study CP-sensitive observables at next-to-leading order (NLO) in QCD, including parton-shower effects. We show that the inclusion of NLO corrections sizeably reduces the theoretical uncertainties, and confirm that di-jet correlations in $H+2$ jet production through gluon fusion and correlations of the top-quark decay products in $t\bar tH$ p…
Electroweak one-loop calculations for production of top-quark pairs at colliders are completed by providing the missing QED type contributions from real and virtual photons, where also effects from interference between QED and QCD contributions have to be taken into account. Moreover, photon-induced $t \bar{t}$ production is included as another partonic channel.
Within the heavy quark expansion techniques for the heavy hadron weak decays we analytically compute the coefficient of the power suppressed dimension five chromo-magnetic operator at next-to-leading order of QCD perturbation theory with the full dependence on the final state quark mass. We present explicit expressions for the total width of inclusive semileptonic decays including the power suppressed terms and for a few moments of decay differential distributions. One of the important phenomenological applications of our results is precision analysis of the decays of bottom mesons to charmed …
The calculation of NLO QCD corrections to the $t\bar{t}\to W^{+}W^{-}b\bar{b}\to e^{+}ν_e μ^{-}\barν_μb\bar{b}$ process with complete off-shell effects, is briefly summarized. Besides the total cross section and its scale dependence, a few differential distributions at the TeVatron run II and LHC are given. All results presented in this contribution have been obtained with the help of the HELAC-NLO Monte Carlo framework.
The reaction pp/pbar p -> t tbar jet+X is an important background process for Higgs boson searches in the mass range below 200 GeV. Apart from that it is also an ideal laboratory for precision measurements in the top quark sector. Both applications require a solid theoretical prediction, which can be achieved only through a full next-to-leading order (NLO) calculation. In this work we describe the NLO computation of the subprocess gg -> t tbar g.
Higgs boson pair production is considered at next-to-leading order with special emphasis on the effect of a finite top quark mass. It is shown that, unlike for single-Higgs boson production, power-suppressed corrections are numerically important.
The single vector-like top partner hadroproduction in association with top quark in the five and the six-flavour schemes at the LHC is investigated. The inclusive cross section and the differential distributions are evaluated for many benchmark scenarios at leading and next-to-leading orders, both for fixed-order and fixed-order matched to parton shower. The associated Higgs production with a top quark pair, where the final state arises from the decay of the vector-like top partner into a Higgs boson and a top quark, is examined.
A novel computation of the fully-differential cross section for neutral Higgs-boson production through gluon fusion in the CP-conserving NMSSM is presented. Based on the calculation of NLO corrections to the total cross section [1], we implemented the NMSSM amplitudes in three codes, applying different resummation techniques: analytic transverse-momentum resummation at NLO+NLL, and two fully-differential NLO+PS Monte-Carlo approaches using the MC@NLO and POWHEG matching procedures, respectively. We study phenomenological predictions for distributions in the NMSSM with a special emphasis on the…
We present the first combination of NLO QCD matrix elements for di-Higgs production, retaining the full top quark mass dependence, with a parton shower. Results are provided within both the POWHEG-BOX and MadGraph5_aMC@NLO Monte Carlo frameworks. We assess in detail the theoretical uncertainties and provide differential results. We find that, as expected, the shower effects are relatively large for observables like the transverse momentum of the Higgs boson pair, which are sensitive to extra radiation. However, these shower effects are still much smaller than the differences between the Born-i…
We study the impact of different theoretical descriptions of top quark pair production on top quark mass measurements in the di-lepton channel. To this aim, the full NLO corrections to $pp\rightarrow W^+W^-b\bar b\rightarrow (e^+ ν_e)\,(μ^- \barν_μ)\,b\bar b$ production are compared to calculations in the narrow width approximation, where the production of a top quark pair is calculated at NLO and combined with three different descriptions of the top quark decay: leading order, next-to-leading order and via a parton shower. The different theory predictions then enter the calibration of templat…
We present an NLO simulation of WWbb production with massive b-quarks at the LHC. Off-shell and non-resonant contributions associated with top-pair and single-top channels and with leptonic W-boson decays are consistently taken into account using the complex-mass scheme. Thanks to the finite b-quark mass, WWbb predictions can be extended to the whole b-quark phase space, thereby including Wt-channel single-top contributions that originate from collinear g->bb splittings in the four-flavour scheme. This provides a consistent NLO description of tt and Wt production and decay, including quantum i…
We compute next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the process $gg\to ZH$. In the effective-theory approach we confirm the results in the literature. We consider top quark mass corrections via an asymptotic expansion and show that there is a good convergence below the top quark threshold which describes approximately {\num a quarter} of the total cross section. Our corrections are implemented in the publicly available {\tt C++} program {\tt ggzh}.
We describe the implementation of top production and decay processes in the parton-level Monte Carlo program MCFM. By treating the top quark as being on-shell, we can factorize the amplitudes for top-pair production, s-channel single-top production, and t-channel single-top production into the product of an amplitude for production and an amplitude for decay. In this way we can retain all spin correlations. Both the production and the decay amplitudes are calculated consistently at next-to-leading order in alpha_s. The full dependence on the b-quark mass is also kept. Phenomenological results …
A short summary of a NLO QCD calculation for the top-quark pair production with a jet in the dilepton decay channel is presented. The calculation takes into account all double, single, non-resonant and interference contributions. Thus, NLO QCD corrections are computed for the process pp -> e+ ve mu- vm~ b b~ j + X. This calculation provides the first complete description, which overcomes the narrow width approximation for ttj process in the dilepton decay channel. Results for the total cross section and differential distributions for the LHC at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV are shown.
In view of precision studies of the Higgs sector at the Run II of the LHC, the improvement of the accuracy of the theoretical prediction is becoming a pressing issue. In this framework, we detail a calculation of the full Next-to-Leading Order (NLO) electroweak corrections to Higgs boson decay into four charged leptons, by considering the gold-plated channel H -> Z(*) Z(*) -> 2l 2l', l,l' = e, mu. We match the NLO corrections with a QED Parton Shower (PS), in order to simulate exclusive multiple photon emission and provide novel results at NLOPS electroweak accuracy. We compare our NLO predict…
We present results for the next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the production and semi-leptonic decays of a top quark pair in hadron collisions, retaining all spin correlations. To evaluate the virtual corrections, we employ generalized D-dimensional unitarity. The computation is implemented in a numerical program which allows detailed studies of ttbar-related observables at the Tevatron and the LHC.
In this paper we study the Single Top and W boson associated photoproduction via the main reaction $\rm pp\rightarrow pγp\rightarrow pW^{\pm}t+Y$ at the 14 TeV Large Hadron Collider (LHC) up to next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD level assuming a typical LHC multipurpose forward detector. We use the Five-Flavor-Number Schemes (5FNS) with massless bottom quark assumption in the whole calculation. Our results show that the QCD NLO corrections can reduce the scale uncertainty. The typical K-factors are in the range of 1.15 to 1.2 which lead to the QCD NLO corrections of 15$%$ to 20$%$ correspond to t…
Top quark pair production in association with a $Z$-boson or a photon at the LHC directly probes neutral top-quark couplings. We present predictions for these two processes in the Standard Model (SM) Effective Field Theory (EFT) at next-to-leading (NLO) order in QCD. We include the full set of CP-even dimension-six operators that enter the top-quark interactions with the SM gauge bosons. For comparison, we also present predictions in the SMEFT for top loop-induced $HZ$ production at the LHC and for $t\bar{t}$ production at the ILC at NLO in QCD. Results for total cross sections and differentia…
This paper is a follow-up of Ref.~\cite{Ravasio:2018lzi}, where we studied the impact of next-to-leading order calculations merged with parton shower generators (NLO+PS) of increasing accuracy in the extraction of the top mass at hadron colliders. Here we examined results obtained with the older (fortran-based) shower generators Pythia6.4 and Herwig6.5. Our findings are in line with what we found in our previous paper with the new, c++-based, generators Pythia8.2 and Herwig7.1.
We present the calculation of the cross section and invariant mass distribution for Higgs boson pair production in gluon fusion at next-to-leading order (NLO) in QCD. Top-quark masses are fully taken into account throughout the calculation. The virtual two-loop amplitude has been generated using an extension of the program GoSam supplemented with an interface to Reduze for the integral reduction. The occurring integrals have been calculated numerically using the program SecDec. Our results, including the full top-quark mass dependence for the first time, allow us to assess the validity of vari…
