A Markovian bridge is a probability measure taken from a disintegration of the law of an initial part of the path of a Markov process given its terminal value. As such, Markovian bridges admit a natural parameterization in terms of the state space of the process. In the context of Feller processes with continuous transition densities, we construct by weak convergence considerations the only versions of Markovian bridges which are weakly continuous with respect to their parameter. We use this weakly continuous construction to provide an extension of the strong Markov property in which the flow of time is reversed. In the context of self-similar Feller process, the last result is shown to be useful in the construction of Markovian bridges out of the trajectories of the original process.
Motivated by questions arising in financial mathematics, Dupire introduced a notion of smoothness for functionals of paths (different from the usual Fréchet--Gatéaux derivatives) and arrived at a generalization of Itō's formula applicable to functionals which have a pathwise continuous dependence on the trajectories of the underlying process. We study nonlinear functionals which do not have such pathwise continuity and further work simultaneously under the family of continuous semimartingale measures on path-space. We do this without introducing a second component, as carried out by Cont--Four…
In this paper we study the pathwise uniqueness of solution to the following stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE) with Hölder continuous coefficient: \begin{eqnarray*} \frac{\partial X_t(x)}{\partial t}=\frac{1}{2} ΔX_t(x) +G(X_t(x))+H(X_{t-}(x)) \dot{L}_t(x),~~~ t>0, ~x\in\mathbb{R}, \end{eqnarray*} where $\dot{L}$ denotes an $α$-stable white noise on $\mathbb{R}_+\times \mathbb{R}$ without negative jumps, $G$ satisfies the Lipschitz condition and $H$ is nondecreasing and $β$-Hölder continuous for $1<α<2$ and $0<β<1$. For $G\equiv0$ and $H(x)=x^β$, in Mytnik (2002) a weak solution t…
Using a rough path formulation, we investigate existence, uniqueness and regularity for the stochastic Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation with Stratonovich noise on the one dimensional torus. As a main result we show the continuity of the so-called Itô-Lyons map in the energy spaces $L^\infty(0,T;H^k)\cap L^2(0,T;H^{k+1})$ for any $k\ge1$. The proof proceeds in two steps. First, based on an energy estimate in the aforementioned space together with a compactness argument we prove existence of a unique solution, implying the continuous dependence in a weaker norm. This is then strengthened in the …
We derive two estimates for the deviation of the $N$-particle, hard-spheres Kac process from the corresponding Boltzmann equation, measured in expected Wasserstein distance. Particular care is paid to the long-time properties of our estimates, exploiting the stability properties of the limiting Boltzmann equation at the level of realisations of the interacting particle system. As a consequence, we obtain an estimate for the propagation of chaos, uniformly in time and with polynomial rates, as soon as the initial data has a $k^\mathrm{th}$ moment, $k>2$. Our approach is similar to Kac's proposa…
We study two equivalent characterizations of the strong Feller property for a Markov process and of the associated sub-Markovian semigroup. One is described in terms of locally uniform absolute continuity, whereas the other uses local Orlicz-ultracontractivity. These criteria generalize many existing results on strong Feller continuity and seem to be more natural for Feller processes. By establishing the estimates of the first exit time from balls, we also investigate the continuity of harmonic functions for Feller processes which enjoy the strong Feller property.
Motivated by the Brownian bridge on random interval considered by Bedini et al \cite{BBE}, we introduce and study Gaussian bridges with random length with special emphasis to the Markov property. We prove that if the starting process is Markov then this property was kept by the bridge with respect to the usual augmentation of its natural filtration. This leads us to conclude that the completed natural filtration of the bridge satisfies the usual conditions of right-continuity and completeness.
Mean field games are studied in the framework of controlled martingale problems, and general existence theorems are proven in which the equilibrium control is Markovian. The framework is flexible enough to include degenerate volatility, which may depend on both the control and the mean field. The objectives need not be strictly convex, and the mean field interactions considered are nonlocal and Wasserstein-continuous. When the volatility is nondegenerate, continuity assumptions may be weakened considerably. The proofs first use relaxed controls to establish existence. Then, using a convexity a…
A class of stochastic delay equations in Banach space $E$ driven by cylindrical Wiener process is studied. We investigate two concepts of solutions: weak and generalised strong, and give conditions under which they are equivalent. We present an evolution equation approach in a Banach space $\Ep{p}:=E\times L^p(-1,0;E)$ proving that the solutions can be reformulated as $\Ep{p}$-valued Markov processes. Based on the Markovian representation we prove the existence and continuity of the solutions. The results are applied to stochastic delay partial differential equations with an application to neu…
We establish pathwise continuity properties of solutions to a stochastic Volterra equation with an additive noise term given by a local martingale. The deterministic part is governed by an operator with an $H^\infty$-calculus and a scalar kernel. The proof relies on the dilation theorem for positive definite operator families on a Hilbert space.
Semilinear stochastic evolution equations with multiplicative Lévy noise and monotone nonlinear drift are considered. Unlike other similar works, we do not impose coercivity conditions on coefficients. We establish the continuous dependence of the mild solution with respect to initial conditions and also on coefficients which as far as we know, has not been proved before. As corollaries of the continuity result, we derive sufficient conditions for asymptotic stability of the solutions, we show that Yosida approximations converge to the solution and we prove that solutions have Markov property.…
We consider a process given as the solution of a one-dimensional stochastic differential equation with irregular, path dependent and time-inhomogeneous drift coefficient and additive noise. Hölder continuity of the Lebesgue density of that process at any given time is achieved using a different approach than the classical ones in the literature. Namely, the Hölder regularity of the densities is obtained via a control problem by identifying the stochastic differential equation with the worst global Hölder constant. Then we generalise our findings to a larger class of diffusion coefficients. The…
We introduce a new class of Backward Stochastic Differential Equations in which the $T$-terminal value $Y_{T}$ of the solution $(Y,Z)$ is not fixed as a random variable, but only satisfies a weak constraint of the form $E[Ψ(Y_{T})]\ge m$, for some (possibly random) non-decreasing map $Ψ$ and some threshold $m$. We name them \textit{BSDEs with weak terminal condition} and obtain a representation of the minimal time $t$-values $Y_{t}$ such that $(Y,Z)$ is a supersolution of the BSDE with weak terminal condition. It provides a non-Markovian BSDE formulation of the PDE characterization obtained fo…
Let $X_n$ be independent random elements in the Skorohod space $D([0,1];E)$ of càdlàg functions taking values in a separable Banach space $E$. Let $S_n=\sum_{j=1}^nX_j$. We show that if $S_n$ converges in finite dimensional distributions to a càdlàg process, then $S_n+y_n$ converges a.s. pathwise uniformly over $[0,1]$, for some $y_n\in D([0,1];E)$. This result extends the Itô-Nisio theorem to the space $D([0,1];E)$, which is surprisingly lacking in the literature even for $E=R$. The main difficulties of dealing with $D([0,1];E)$ in this context are its nonseparability under the uniform norm a…
In this paper, we introduce an extension of a Brownian bridge with a random length by including uncertainty also in the pinning level of the bridge. The main result of this work is that unlike for deterministic pinning point, the bridge process fails to be Markovian if the pining point distribution is absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure. Further results include the derivation of formulae to calculate the conditional expectation of various functions of the random pinning time, the random pinning location, and the future value of the Brownian bridge, given an observation o…
Let $μ$ = ($μ$t)t$\in$R be any 1-parameter family of probability measures on R. Its quantile process (Gt)t$\in$R : ]0, 1[ $\rightarrow$ RR, given by Gt($α$) = inf{x $\in$ R : $μ$t(]--$\infty$, x]) > $α$}, is not Markov in general. We modify it to build the Markov process we call "Markov-quantile".We first describe the discrete analogue: if ($μ$n)n$\in$Z is a family of probability measures on R, a Markov process Y = (Yn)n$\in$Z such that Law(Yn) = $μ$n is given by the data of its couplings from n to n + 1, i.e. Law((Yn, Yn+1)), and the process Y is the inhomogeneous Markov chain having those co…
