In this paper, equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations were performed on Au-SAM (self-assembly monolayer)-Au junctions. The SAM consisted of alkanedithiol molecules. The out-of-plane (z-direction) thermal conductance and in-plane (x- and y-direction) thermal conductivities were calculated. Simulation finite size effect, gold substrate thickness effect, temperature effect, normal pressure effect, molecule chain length effect and molecule coverage effect on thermal conductivity/conductance were studied. Vibration power spectra of gold atoms in the substrate and sulfur atoms in the SAM were calculated and vibration coupling of these two parts was analyzed. The calculated thermal conductance values of Au-SAM-Au junctions are in the range of experimental data on metal-nonmetal junctions. The temperature dependence of thermal conductance has similar trend to experimental observations. It is concluded that the Au-SAM interface resistance dominates thermal energy transport across the junction, while the substrate is the dominant media in which in-plane thermal energy transport happens.
We studied the conductance renormalization and conductivity of multi-subband Tomonaga-Luttinger models with inter-subband interactions. We found that, as in single-band systems, the conductance of a multi-subband system with an arbitrary number of subbands is not renormalized due to interaction between electrons. We derived a formula for the conductivity in multi-subband models. We applied it to a simplified case and found that inter-subband interaction enhances the conductivity, which is contrary to the intra-subband repulsive interaction, and that the conductivity is further enhanced for a l…
The sample averaged longitudinal two-terminal conductance and the respective Kubo-conductivity are calculated at quantum critical points in the integer quantum Hall regime. In the limit of large system size, both transport quantities are found to be the same within numerical uncertainty in the lowest Landau band, $0.60\pm 0.02 e^2/h$ and $0.58\pm 0.03 e^2/h$, respectively. In the 2nd lowest Landau band, a critical conductance $0.61\pm 0.03 e^2/h$ is obtained which indeed supports the notion of universality. However, these numbers are significantly at variance with the hitherto commonly believe…
Thermoelectric conductance of an edge mode is investigated. The edge modes of a $2D $ and $3D$ two band model with parabolic dispersion is considered. For the the one dimensional non interacting fermions the thermal conductivity computed agrees with the result known from $Bosonization$ computations. In the presence of a magnetic field, backscattering is allowed and controls the value of the thermal conductivity. The thermal conductivity is obtained from the continuity equation of thermal current energy conservation. The thermal conductivity is computed introducing the $Scattering$ matrix for p…
We calculate the current-voltage characteristic of a two-dimensional electron system (2DES) subjected to a magnetic field at strong electric fields. The interaction of electrons with piezoelectric acoustic phonons is considered as a major scattering mechanism governing the current-voltage characteristic. It is shown that at a sufficiently strong electric field corresponding to the Hall drift velocity exceeding the velocity of sound, the dissipative current exhibits an overshoot. The overshoot of the dissipative current can result in a breakdown of the absolute negative conductivity caused by m…
A semi-analytical model for studying thermal transport at the nanoscale, able to accurately describe both the effect of out of equilibrium transport and the thermal transfer at interfaces, is presented. Our approach is based on the definition of pseudo local temperatures distinguishing the phonon populations according to the direction of their velocity. This formalism leads to a complete set of equations capturing the heat transfer in nanostructures even in the case of hetero-structures. This model only requires introducing a new intrinsic thermal parameter called ballistic thermal conductance…
An analytical N-layer model for charge transport close to a surface is derived from the solution of Poisson's equation and used to describe distance-dependent electrical four-point measurements on the microscale. As the N-layer model comprises a surface channel, multiple intermediate layers and a semi-infinite bulk, it can be applied to semiconductors in combination with a calculation of the near-surface band-bending to model very precisely the measured four-point resistance on the surface of a specific sample and to extract a value for the surface conductivity. For describing four-point measu…
We consider a single-layer graphene with high ripples, so that the pseudo-magnetic fields due to these ripples are strong. If the magnetic length corresponding to a typical pseudo-magnetic field is smaller than the ripple size, the resulting Landau levels are local. Then the effective properties of the macroscopic sample can be calculated by averaging the local properties over the distribution of ripples. We find that this averaging does not wash out the Landau quantization completely. Average density of states (DOS) contains a feature (inflection point) at energy corresponding to the first La…
Graphene has drawn wide attention due to its exceptional thermal conductivity but complete understanding of thermal characteristics of polycrystalline graphene is still elusive to date. For the first time, herein, we have systematically studied the effect of temperature on the thermal conductance behavior of polycrystalline graphene for a range of grain sizes and grain boundary types, by using non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations. It is noted that increasing the tempera-ture remarkably enhances thermal boundary conductance (Kapitza conductance) across grain boundaries while it deteri…
Quantum interference phenomena in the conductivity of mesoscopic ferromagnets are considered, particularly with regard to the effects of geometric phases acquired by electrons propagating through regions of spatially varying magnetization (due, e.g., to magnetic domain walls). Weak localization and electron-electron interaction quantum corrections to the conductivity and universal conductance fluctuations are discussed. Experiments are proposed for multiply-connected geometries that should reveal conductance oscillations with variations of the profile of the magnetization.
Thermoelectric conductance of Dirac materials and in particular zero modes reveals the effect of topology .Weyl semimetals with a boundary at z = 0 give rise to chiral zero modes with- out backscattering resulting in a significant contribution to thermal conductivity. By doping the surface with paramagnetic impurities backscattering is allowed, and the thermal conductivity is controlled by the decrease of the transmission function |t|^{2} < 1. We attach a thermal reservoir at the edge of the sample and study the thermal and electrical conductance. For the ballistic and mesoscopic situations, q…
We investigate the thermal conductivity in the armchair and zigzag MoS$_{2}$ nanoribbons, by combining the non-equilibrium Green's function approach and the first-principles method. A strong orientation dependence is observed in the thermal conductivity. Particularly, the thermal conductivity for the armchair MoS$_{2}$ nanoribbon is about 673.6 Wm$^{-1}$K$^{-1}$ in the armchair nanoribbon, and 841.1 Wm$^{-1}$K$^{-1}$ in the zigzag nanoribbon at room temperature. By calculating the Caroli transmission, we disclose the underlying mechanism for this strong orientation dependence to be the fewer p…
We present temperature-dependent conductivity data obtained on a sample set of nanogranular Pt-C with finely tuned inter-grain tunnel coupling strength g. For samples in the strong-coupling regime g > g_C, characterized by a finite conductivity for T -> 0, we find a logarithmic behavior at elevated temperatures and a crossover to a sqrt(T)-behavior at low temperatures over a wide range of coupling strengths g_C = 0.25 < g <= 3. The experimental observation for g > 1 is in very good agreement with recent theoretical findings on ordered granular metals in three spatial dimensions. The results in…
The thermal properties of a suspended metallic single-wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) are extracted from its high-bias (I-V) electrical characteristics over the 300-800 K temperature range, achieved by Joule self-heating. The thermal conductance is approximately 2.4 nW/K and the thermal conductivity is nearly 3500 W/m/K at room temperature for a SWNT of length 2.6 um and diameter 1.7 nm. A subtle decrease in thermal conductivity steeper than 1/T is observed at the upper end of the temperature range, which is attributed to second order three-phonon scattering between two acoustic modes and one opti…
Graphene's near-field radiative heat transfer is determined from its electrical conductivity, commonly modeled using the local Kubo and Drude formulas. In this letter, we analyze the non-locality of graphene's electrical conductivity using the Lindhard model combined with the Mermin relaxation time approximation. We also study how the variation of electrical conductivity with wavevector affects near-field radiative conductance between two graphene sheets separated by a vacuum gap. It is shown that the variation of electrical conductivity with wavevector, $k_ρ$, is appreciable for $k_ρ$s greate…
The conductance of ballistic graphene at the neutrality point is due to coherent electron tunneling between the leads, the so called pseudodiffusive regime. The conductance scales as function of the sample dimensions in the same way as in a diffusive metal, despite the difference in the physical mechanisms involved. The electron-electron interaction modifies this regime, and plays a role similar to that of the environment in macroscopic quantum phenomena. We show that interactions, and the presence of external gates, change substantially the transport properties, and can lead to a diverging re…
Complex AC-conductance, $σ^{AC}$, in the systems with dense Ge$_{0.7}$Si$_{0.3}$ quantum dot (QD) arrays in Si has been determined from simultaneous measurements of attenuation, $ΔΓ=Γ(H)-Γ(0)$, and velocity, $ΔV /V=(V(H)-V(0)) / V(0)$, of surface acoustic waves (SAW) with frequencies $f$ = 30-300 MHz as functions of transverse magnetic field $H \leq$ 18 T in the temperature range $T$ = 1-20 K. It has been shown that in the sample with dopant (B) concentration 8.2$ \times 10^{11}$ cm$^{-2}$ at temperatures $T \leq$4 K the AC conductivity is dominated by hopping between states localized in diffe…
We investigate spin transport in 2-dimensional insulators, with the long-term goal of establishing whether any of the transport coefficients corresponds to the Fu-Kane-Mele index which characterizes 2d time-reversal-symmetric topological insulators. Inspired by the Kubo theory of charge transport, and by using a proper definition of the spin current operator, we define the Kubo-like spin conductance $G_K^{s_z}$ and spin conductivity $σ_K^{s_z}$. We prove that for any gapped, periodic, near-sighted discrete Hamiltonian, the above quantities are mathematically well-defined and the equality $G_K^…
The high-frequency conductivity of Si delta-doped GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures is studied in the integer quantum Hall effect (QHE) regime, using acoustic methods. Both the real and the imaginary parts of the complex conductivity are determined from the experimentally observed magnetic field and temperature dependences of the velocity and the attenuation of a surface acoustic wave. It is demonstrated that in the structures studied the mechanism of low-temperature conductance near the QHE plateau centers is hopping. It is also shown that at magnetic fields corresponding to filling factors 2 and …
We use the technique of bosonization to understand a variety of recent experimental results on the conductivity of a quantum wire. The quantum wire is taken to be a finite-length Luttinger liquid connected on two sides to semi-infinite Fermi liquids through contacts. The contacts are modeled as (short) Luttinger liquids bounded by localized one-body potentials. We use effective actions and the renormalization group to study the effects of electronic interactions within the wire, the length of the wire, finite temperature and a magnetic field on the conductivity. We explain the deviations of th…
We study the effect of electron-electron interaction on the conductance of open quantum dots. We find that Coulomb interactions (i) do not affect the ensemble averaged conductance <G> if time-reversal symmetry has been broken by a magnetic field, (ii) enhance weak localization and weak anti-localization corrections to <G> in the absence of a magnetic field, (iii) increase conductance fluctuations, and (iv) enhance the effect of short trajectories on the conductivity of quantum dot.
On a high mobility two-dimensional hole gas (2DHG) in a GaAs/GaAlAs heterostructure we study the interaction correction to the Drude conductivity in the ballistic regime, $k_BTτ/\hbar $ $>1$. It is shown that the 'metallic' behaviour of the resistivity ($dρ/dT>0$) of the low-density 2DHG is caused by hole-hole interaction effect in this regime. We find that the temperature dependence of the conductivity and the parallel-field magnetoresistance are in agreement with this description, and determine the Fermi-liquid interaction constant $F_0^σ$ which controls the sign of $dρ/dT$.
First-principles density-functional calculations are performed to investigate the thermal transport properties in graphene nanoribbons (GNRs). The dimensional crossover of thermal conductance from one to two dimensions (2D) is clearly demonstrated with increasing ribbon width. The thermal conductance of GNRs in a few nanometer width already exhibits an approximate low-temperature dependence of $T^{1.5}$, like that of 2D graphene sheet which is attributed to the quadratic nature of dispersion relation for the out-of-plane acoustic phonon modes. Using a zone-folding method, we heuristically deri…
We present an original method to estimate the conductivity of a single molecule anchored to nanometric-sized metallic electrodes, using a Mechanically Controlled Break Junction (MCBJ) operated at room temperature in liquid. We record the conductance through the metal / molecules / metal nanocontact while keeping the metallic electrodes at a fixed distance. Taking advantage of thermal diffusion and electromigration, we let the contact naturally explore the more stable configurations around a chosen conductance value. The conductance of a single molecule is estimated from a statistical analysis …
We apply the generating function technique developed by Nazarov to the computation of the density of transmission eigenvalues for a two-dimensional free massless Dirac fermion, which, e.g., underlies theoretical descriptions of graphene. By modeling ideal leads attached to the sample as a conformal invariant boundary condition, we relate the generating function for the density of transmission eigenvalues to the twisted chiral partition functions of fermionic ($c=1$) and bosonic ($c=-1$) conformal field theories. We also discuss the scaling behavior of the ac Kubo conductivity and compare its \…
We have studied the thermal properties of bended graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) using nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulations. The thermal conductivity of bended GNRs shows a non-monotonous relationship with the bending angle, due to the influence of chirality and Kapitza conductance. When a constant heat flux is allowed to flow, sharp temperature jump is observed at the inside corner. On the basis of the magnitude of these jumps, we have computed the Kapitza conductance as a function of bending angles. Besides, modification of the inside corner is applied to change the ability of heat tran…
We have studied the ground state structure of quantum strips within the local spin-density approximation, for a range of electronic densities between $\sim$ 5$\times10^4$ and 2$\times10^6$ cm$^{-1}$ and several strengths of the lateral confining potential. The results have been used to address the conductance $G$ of quantum strips. At low density, when only one subband is occupied, the system is fully polarized and $G$ takes a value which is close to 0.7(2e$^2/h$), decreasing with increasing electron density in agreement with experiments. At higher densities the system becomes paramagnetic and…
The rapidly increasing number of 2-dimensional (2D) materials that have been isolated or synthesized provides an enormous opportunity to realize new device functionalities. Whereas their optical and electrical characterization have been more readily reported, quantitative thermal characterization is more challenging due to the difficulties with localizing heat flow. Optical pump-probe techniques that are well-established for the study of bulk materials or thin-films have limited sensitivity to in-plane heat transport, and the characterization of the thermal anisotropy that is common in 2D mate…
Because of its ultrawide bandgap, high breakdown electric field, and large area affordable substrates grown from the melt, beta Ga2O3 has attracted great attention recently for potential applications of power electronics. However, its thermal conductivity is significantly lower than those of other wide bandgap semiconductors, such as AlN, SiC, GaN, and diamond. To ensure reliable operation with minimal selfheating at high power, proper thermal management is even more essential for Ga2O3 devices. Similarly to the past approaches aiming to alleviate selfheating in GaN HEMTs, a possible solution …
The conductivity of a two-dimensional HgTe quantum well with a width $\sim$6.3~nm, close to the transition from ordinary to topological insulating phases, is studied. The Fermi level is supposed to get to the overall energy gap. The consideration is based on the percolation theory. We have found that the width fluctuations convert the system to a random mixture of domains with positive and negative energy gaps with internal edge states formed near zero gap lines. In the case with no potential fluctuations, the conductance of a finite sample is provided by a random edge states network. The zero…
We investigate the electron-hole two-stream instability (or Coulomb drag) in intrinsic bilayer graphene in the hydrodynamic regime, accounting for the effects of temperature, initial drift velocity, magnetic field, and collisions. The threshold drift speed for the onset of instabilities is of the order of the thermal velocity of the carriers. We put in evidence an unprecedented purely electrostatic mechanism leading to current relaxation, giving rise to a well-defined dc longitudinal conductivity $\propto T^{3/2}$. Due to competition between electrostatic and collisional processes, two distinc…
Freely suspended metallic single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) exhibit reduced current carrying ability compared to those lying on substrates, and striking negative differential conductance (NDC) at low electric fields. Theoretical analysis reveals significant self-heating effects including electron scattering by hot non-equilibrium optical phonons. Electron transport characteristics under strong self-heating are exploited for the first time to probe the thermal conductivity of individual SWNTs (~ 3600 Wm-1K-1 at T=300 K) up to ~700 K, and reveal a 1/T dependence expected for Umklapp phonon sc…
We revisit the expression for the conductance of a general nanostructure -- such as a quantum point contact -- as obtained from the linear response theory. We show that the conductance represents the strength of the Drude singularity in the conductivity $σ(k,k';iω\to 0)$. Using the equation of continuity for electric charge we obtain a formula for conductance in terms of polarization of the system. This identification can be used for direct calculation of the conductance for systems of interest even at the {\it ab-initio} level. In particular, we show that one can evaluate the conductance from…
We report on the effect of exposure to atmospheric conditions on the THz conductivity of thin films of the topological insulator Bi$_2$Se$_3$. We find: 1) two contributions of mobile charge carriers to the THz conductivity immediately after growth, and 2) the spectral weight of the smaller of these decays significantly over a period of several days as the film is exposed to ambient conditions, while the other remains relatively constant. We associate the former with a bulk response, and the latter with the surface. The surface response exhibits the expected robustness of the carriers from 2D t…
We present an elaborate and systematic study of the conductance properties of a zigzag bilayer graphene nanoribbon modeled by a Kane-Mele (KM) Hamiltonian. The interplay of the Rashba and the intrinsic spin-orbit couplings with the edge states, electronic band structures, charge and spin transport are explored in details. We have analytically derived the conditions for the edge states for a bilayer KM nanoribbon and show how these modes decay for lattice sites inside the bulk. It is particularly interesting to note that for a finite-size ribbon an even number of zigzag ribbon hosts a finite en…
Minimal conductivity of a single undoped graphene layer is known to be of the order of the conductance quantum, independent of the electron velocity. We show that this universality does not survive electron-electron interaction which results in the non-trivial frequency dependence. We begin with analyzing the perturbation theory in the interaction parameter 'g' for the electron self-energy and observe the failure of the random-phase approximation. The optical conductivity is then derived from the quantum kinetic equation and the exact result is obtained in the limit when g << 1 << g lnω.
We investigate the thermoelectric performance of armchair graphene nanoribbon (AGNR), bilayer GNRs junction (BGNRJ) and BGNRJ with holes (BGNRJ-H) by the first principles calculation with non-equilibrium Green function. It is found that the BGNRJ-H exhibits high ZT values of 9.65 and 5.55 at 300K. The reason of these significantly larger ZT values than previously observed has been calculated due to reduced thermal conductivity and enhanced electrical conductivity. The low thermal conductance comes from the van der waals (vdW) interaction between two graphene layers. The increased electrical co…
The bulk microwave conductivity of a dirty d-wave superconductor is known to depend sensitively on the range of the disorder potential: long-range scattering enhances the conductivity, while short- range scattering has no effect. Here we show that the three-terminal electrical conductance of a normal-metal-d-wave superconductor-normal-metal junction has a dual behavior: short-range scattering suppresses the conductance, while long-range scattering has no effect.
We study the effects of Coulomb interaction and inter-grain quantum tunnelling in an array of metallic grains using the phase-functional approach for temperatures $T$ well below the charging energy $E_{c}$ of individual grains yet large compared to the level spacing in the grains. When the inter-grain tunnelling conductance $g\gg1$, the conductivity $σ$ in $d$ dimensions decreases logarithmically with temperature ($σ/σ_{0}\sim1-\frac{1}{2πgd}\ln(gE_{c}/T)$), while for $g\to0$, the conductivity shows simple activated behaviour ($σ\sim \exp(-E_c/T)$). We show, for bare tunnelling conductance $g …
We study the charge and spin transport in a two terminal graphene nanoribbon (GNR) decorated with random Gold (Au) adatoms using a Kane-Mele model. Two commonly used GNRs, that is, the armchair graphene nanoribbon (AGNR) and the zigzag graphene nanoribbon (ZGNR) are compared and contrasted, which shows that in presence of Au adatoms, a somewhat robust $2e^2/h$ conductance plateau occurs in the case of AGNR around the zero of the Fermi energy, while in ZGNR this plateau is fragile. We show that this flat plateau, having a conductance value $2e^2/h$, is not a hallmark signature of a topologicall…
We present a model which provides a plausible explanation of the effect of zero-resistance and zero-conductance states in two-dimensional electron systems subjected to a magnetic field and irradiated with microwaves observed in a number of experiments and of the effect main features. The model is based on the concept of absolute negative conductivity associated with photon-assisted scattering of electrons on impurities. It is shown that the main features of the effect can be attributed to the interplay of different electron scattering mechanisms.
Nanoscale solid-solid contacts define a wealth of material behaviours from the electrical and thermal conductivity in modern electronic devices to friction and losses in micro- and nanoelectromechanical systems. For modern ultra-high integration processor chips, power electronic devices and thermoelectrics one of the most essential, but thus far most challenging, aspects is the assessment of the heat transport at the nanoscale sized interfaces between their components. While this can be effectively addressed by a scanning thermal microscopy, or SThM, which demonstrates the highest spatial reso…
We consider the bilocal conductivity tensor, the two-probe conductance and its fluctuations for a disordered phase-coherent two-dimensional system of non-interacting electrons in the presence of a magnetic field, including correctly the edge effects. Analytical results are obtained by perturbation theory in the limit $σ_{xx} \gg 1$. For mesoscopic systems the conduction process is dominated by diffusion but we show that, due to the lack of time-reversal symmetry, the boundary condition for diffusion is altered at the reflecting edges. Instead of the usual condition, that the derivative along t…
By studying the temperature-dependent behavior of electron thermal conductivity (k) in a 3.2 nm-thin film, we quantify the extremely confined defect-electron scattering and reveal the intrinsic phonon-electron scattering that is shared by bulk Ir. At low temperatures below 50 K, the thermal conductivity of the thin film has almost two orders of magnitude reduction from that of the bulk Ir. The thermal conductivity of the film increases with increasing temperature while that of the bulk Ir has an opposite trend. We introduce a unified thermal resistivity to interpret this completely different k…
An efficient order$-N$ real-space Kubo approach is developed for the calculation of the thermal conductivity of complex disordered materials. The method, which is based on the Chebyshev polynomial expansion of the time evolution operator and the Lanczos tridiagonalization scheme, efficiently treats the propagation of phonon wave-packets in real-space and the phonon diffusion coefficients. The mean free paths and the thermal conductance can be determined from the diffusion coefficients. These quantities can be extracted simultaneously for all frequencies, which is another advantage in compariso…
Quantum corrections to the conductivity allow experimental assessment of electronic coherence in metals. We consider whether independent measurements of different corrections are quantitatively consistent, particularly in systems with spin-orbit or magnetic impurity scattering. We report weak localization and time-dependent universal conductance fluctuation data in quasi-one- and two-dimensional AuPd wires between 2 K and 20 K. The data inferred from both methods are in excellent quantitative agreement, implying that precisely the same coherence length is relevant to both corrections.
We report a record low thermal conductivity in polycrystalline MoS2 obtained by varying grain sizes and orientations in ultrathin films. By optimizing the sulphurisation parameters of nanometre-thick Mo layer, we could grow MoS2 films with tuneable morphologies. The thermal conductivity is extracted from a Raman laser power-dependent study on suspended samples. The lowest value of thermal conductivity of 0.27 Wm-1K-1, which reaches a similar value as teflon, is obtained in a polycrystalline sample formed by a combination of horizontally and vertically oriented grains, with respect to the bulk …
We report a numerical investigation on the heat transfer through one dimensional arrays of metallic nanoparticles closely spaced in a host material. Our simulations show that the multipolar interactions play a crucial role in the heat transport via collective plasmons. Calculations of the plasmonic thermal conductance and of the thermal conductivity in ballistic and diffusive regime, respectively have been carried out. (a) Using the Landauer-Buttiker formalism we have found that, when the host material dielectric constant takes positive values, the multipolar interactions drastically enhance b…
The Wiedemann-Franz (WF) law is a fundamental result in solid-state physics that relates the thermal and electrical conductivity of a metal. It is derived from the predominant origin of energy conversion in metals: the motion of quasi-free charge-carrying particles. Here, an equivalent WF relationship is developed for molecular systems in which charge carriers are moving not as free particles but instead hop between redox sites. We derive a concise analytical relationship between the electrical and thermal conductivity generated by electron hopping in molecular systems and find that the linear…
We study quantization conditions of the Hall conductivity for a two dimensional system described by a double exchange Hamiltonian with and without an external magnetic field. This is obtained by an extension of the topological arguments familiar from the theory of the integer quantum Hall effect. The quantization conditions are related to spontaneous breaking of spin O(3), time-reversal, and spin chiral symmetries. Extension to systems with higher dimensions is briefly discussed.
We investigate the dependence of the optical conductivity of bilayer graphene (BLG) on the intra- and inter-layer interactions using the most complete model to date. We show that the next nearest-neighbor intralayer coupling introduces new features in the low-energy spectrum that are highly sensitive to sample doping, changing significantly the ``universal'' conductance. Further, its interplay with interlayer couplings leads to an anisotropy in conductance in the ultraviolet range. We propose that experimental measurement of the optical conductivity of intrinsic and doped BLG will provide a go…
We have performed experiments on single-wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) networks and compared with density-functional theory (DFT) calculations to identify the microscopic origin of the observed sensitivity of the network conductivity to physisorbed O2 and N2. Previous DFT calculations of the transmission function for isolated pristine SWNTs have found physisorbed molecules have little influence on their conductivity. However, by calculating the four-terminal transmission function of crossed SWNT junctions, we show that physisorbed O2 and N2 do affect the junction's conductance. This may be unders…
We study the electron thermal transport in granular metals at large tunnel conductance between the grains, $g_T \gg 1$ and not too low a temperature $T > g_Tδ$, where $δ$ is the mean energy level spacing for a single grain. Taking into account the electron-electron interaction effects we calculate the thermal conductivity and show that the Wiedemann-Franz law is violated for granular metals. We find that interaction effects suppress the thermal conductivity less than the electrical conductivity.
We investigate the heat flow transport properties of a parallel-coupled double quantum-dot system connected to two reservoirs with a temperature bias in the Coulomb blockade regime. We demonstrate that the effects of thermal rectification and negative differential thermal conductance (NDTC) exist in this system and analyze the influences of energy level difference and Coulomb interaction on the thermal rectification and NDTC. We find that this system can achieve a high thermal rectification ratio and NDTC when the asymmetry factor of the system is enhanced.
