We study the stability of the Higgs potential in the framework of the effective Lagrangian beyond the MSSM. While the leading nonrenormalizable operators can shift the Higgs boson mass above the experimental bound, they also tend to render the scalar potential unbounded from below. The destabilization is correlated with the Higgs mass increase, so that if quantum corrections are small the problem is severe. We show that a supersymmetric sub-leading correction stabilizes the potential within the domain of validity of the effective theory. Constraints on MSSM parameters as well as on higher dimensional operators are derived, ensuring that our vacuum has a lifetime longer than the present age of the universe. In addition we show that when effective operators are responsible for evading the LEP bound, stability constraints imply an upper bound on the scale of new physics in the few TeV range.
Using a simple numerical method, we compute the stability of the MSSM vacuum with respect to tunneling. The stability criterion is then used to put restrictions on the mass parameters. These restrictions are necessary conditions for the vacuum stability and compliment the existing sufficiency conditions obtained analytically.
In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), a Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV can be obtained with moderately heavy scalar top superpartners provided they are highly mixed. The source of this mixing, a soft trilinear stop-stop-Higgs coupling, can result in the appearance of charge- and color-breaking minima in the scalar potential of the theory. If such a vacuum exists and is energetically favorable, the Standard Model-like vacuum can decay to it via quantum tunnelling. In this work we investigate the conditions under which such exotic vacua arise, and we compute the tunnelling rates to t…
We show that, for all values of $Tan β$ and the light right-handed stop mass for which the electroweak phase transition is strong enough to avoid washout following electroweak baryogenesis, the electroweak vacuum is stable over the lifetime of the observed Universe. Cosmological stability of the electroweak vacuum is violated only if the light right-handed stop is lighter than 100-115GeV.
The scalar potential of the MSSM may have local and global minima characterized by non-zero expectation values of charged and colored bosons. Even if the true vacuum is not color and charge conserving, the early Universe is likely to occupy the minimum of the potential in which only the neutral Higgs fields have non-zero vev's. The stability of this false vacuum with respect to quantum tunneling imposes important constraints on the values of the MSSM parameters. We analyze these constraints using some novel methods for calculating the false vacuum decay rate. Some regions of the MSSM parameter…
The ATLAS and CMS collaborations discovered a new boson particle. If the new boson is the Higgs boson, the diphoton signal strength is 1.5 - 1.8 times larger than the Standard Model (SM) prediction, while the WW and ZZ signal strengths are in agreement with the SM one. In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), overall consistency can be achieved by a light stau and the large left-right mixing of staus. However, a light stau and large left-right mixing of staus may suffer from vacuum instability. We first apply the vacuum meta-stability condition to the Higgs to diphoton decay rate i…
Non-Holomorphic MSSM (NHSSM) shows various promising features that are not easily obtained in MSSM. However, the additional Non-Holomorphic (NH) trilinear interactions that attribute to the interesting phenomenological features, also modify the effective scalar potential of the model significantly. We derive analytic constraints involving trilinear parameters $A_t'$ and $A_b'$ that exclude global charge and color breaking minima (CCB). Since the analytic constraints are obtained considering specific directions in the multi-dimensional field space, we further probe the applicability of these co…
We show that it is possible to introduce the confining hidden sector gauge group SU(5)' with the chiral matter 10 plus 5-bar, which are neutral under the standard model gauge group, toward a gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking (GMSB) in a Z_{12-I} orbifold compactification of E_8xE_8 heterotic string. Three families of MSSM result without exotics. We also find a desirable matter parity P (or R-parity) assignment. We note that this model contains the spectrum of the Lee-Weinberg model which has a nice solution of the mu problem.
The stau-neutralino coannihilation provides a feasible way to accommodate the observed cosmological dark matter (DM) relic density in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). In such a coannihilation mechanism the stau mass usually has an upper bound since its annihilation rate becomes small with the increase of DM mass. Inspired by this observation, we examine the upper limit of stau mass in the parameter space with a large mixing of staus. We find that the stau pair may dominantly annihilate into dibosons and hence the upper bound on the stau mass ($\sim400$ GeV) obtained from the $…
The parameters of the Higgs potential of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) receive large radiative corrections which lift the mass of the lightest Higgs boson to the measured value of 126 GeV. Depending on the MSSM parameters, these radiative corrections may also lead to the situation that the local minimum corresponding to the electroweak vacuum state is not the global minimum of the Higgs potential. We analyze the stability of the vacuum for the case of heavy squark masses as favored by current LHC data. To this end we first consider an effective Lagrangian obtained by integra…
The scalar potential of theories with broken supersymmetry can have a number of local minima characterized by different gauge groups. Symmetry properties of the physical vacuum constrain the parameters of the MSSM. We discuss these constraints, in particular those that result from the vacuum stability with respect to quantum tunneling.
The ATLAS and the CMS collaborations have presented results which show an excess of the Higgs to diphoton decay channel. In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), this situation can be achieved by a light stau and a large left-right mixing of the staus. However, this parameter region is severely constrained by vacuum stability. In order to relax the vacuum meta-stability condition, we focus on the parameter region where the mass difference between the two staus is large. This region has not been considered yet. In this paper, we show that staus with a large mass difference can relax…
We work out the phenomenology of a model of supersymmetry breaking in the presence of a tiny (tunable) positive cosmological constant, proposed by the authors in arXiv:1403.1534. It utilises a single chiral multiplet with a gauged shift symmetry, that can be identified with the string dilaton (or an appropriate compactification modulus). The model is coupled to the MSSM, leading to calculable soft supersymmetry breaking masses and a distinct low energy phenomenology that allows to differentiate it from other models of supersymmetry breaking and mediation mechanisms.
The vacuum stability bounds on flavour-violating trilinear soft terms are revisited from the viewpoint that one should not ban a standard-model-like false vacuum as long as it is long-lived on a cosmological timescale. The vacuum transition rate is evaluated numerically by searching for the bounce configuration. Like stability, a metastability bound does not decouple even if sfermion masses grow. Apart from being more generous than stability, the new bounds are largely independent of Yukawa couplings except for the stop trilinears. With vacuum longevity imposed on otherwise arbitrary LR insert…
A consistent theoretical description of physics at high energies requires an assessment of vacuum stability in either the Standard Model or any extension of it. Especially supersymmetric extensions allow for several vacua and the choice of the desired electroweak one gives strong constraints on the parameter space. As the general parameter space in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model is huge, any severe constraint on it unrelated to direct phenomenological observations enhances the predictability of the model. We perform an updated analysis of possible charge and color breaking minima wi…
We elaborate on a recent study of a model of supersymmetry breaking we proposed recently, in the presence of a tunable positive cosmological constant, based on a gauged shift symmetry of a string modulus, external to the Standard Model (SM) sector. Here, we identify this symmetry with a global symmetry of the SM and work out the corresponding phenomenology. A particularly attracting possibility is to use a combination of Baryon and Lepton number that contains the known matter parity and guarantees absence of dimension-four and five operators that violate B and L.
There are nowadays strong experimental constraints on supersymmetric theories from the Higgs measurements as well as from the null results in Sparticle searches. However, even the parameter spaces which are in agreement with experimental data can be further constrained by using theoretical considerations. Here, we discuss for the MSSM and NMSSM the impact of perturbative unitarity as well as of the stability of the one-loop effective potential. We find in the case of the MSSM, that vacuum stability is always the stronger constraint. On the other side, the situation is more diverse in the NMSSM…
The MSSM potential can have unphysical minima deeper than the physically acceptable one. We point out that their presence is quite generic in SO(10) unification with supergravity mediated soft terms. However, at least for moderate values of tanβ, the physically acceptable vacuum has a life-time longer than the universe age. Furthermore, by discussing the evolution of the universe in an inflationary scenario, we show that the correct vacuum is the natural expectation. This is not the tendency in more general cases. Even in the SO(10) case, the weak assumptions necessary for this may prevent to …
In the high-scale (split) MSSM, the measured Higgs mass sets an upper bound on the supersymmetric scalar mass scale MSUSY around $10^{11}$ ($10^{8}$) GeV, for $\tanβ$ in the standard range and the central value of the top quark mass $m_t$. This article discusses how maximal MSUSY is affected by negative threshold corrections to the quartic Higgs coupling arising from the sbottom and stop trilinear couplings. In the high-scale MSSM with very high $\tanβ$, the electroweak vacuum decay due to the large bottom Yukawa coupling rules out the possibility of raising MSUSY beyond the above limit. In ca…
The stability of the standard vacuum imposes constraints on flavor violating trilinear soft terms which are stronger than the laboratory bounds coming from the absence of neutral flavor violations (FCNC). Furthermore, contrary to the FCNC bounds, these constraints persist even if the scale of supersymmetry breaking is arbitrarily large.
The electroweak symmetry is nonlinearly realized in an extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) through an additional pair of constrained Higgs doublet superfields. The superpotential couplings of this constrained Higgs doublet pair to the MSSM Higgs doublet pair catalyze their vacuum expectation values. The Higgs and Higgsino-gaugino mass spectrum is presented for several choices of supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking and Higgs superpotential mass parameters. The additional vacuum expectation values provided by the constrained fields can produce a phenomenology quite different …
Current Higgs data at the Large Hadron Collider is compatible with a SM signal at the 2$σ$ level, but the central value of the signal strength in the diphoton channel is enhanced with respect to the SM expectation. If the enhancement resides in the diphoton partial decay width, the data could be accommodated in the Minimally Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with highly mixed light staus. We revisit the issue of vacuum instability induced by large mixing in the stau sector, including effects of a radiatively-corrected tau Yukawa coupling. Further, we emphasize the importance of taking into …
Modular cosmology is plagued by overproduction of unwanted relics, gravitinos and especially moduli, at relatively low energy scales. Thermal inflation provides a compelling solution to this moduli problem, but invalidates most baryogenesis scenarios. We propose a simple model in which the MSSM plus neutrino mass term $(LH_u)^2$ is supplemented by a minimal flaton sector to drive the thermal inflation, and make two crucial assumptions: the flaton vacuum expectation value generates the $μ$-term of the MSSM and $m_L^2 + m_{H_u}^2 < 0$. The second assumption is particularly interesting in that it…
We consider the possibility that the vacuum energy density of the MSSM (Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model) flat direction condensate involving the Higgses H_1 and H_2 is responsible for inflation. We also discuss how the finely tuned Higgs potential at high vacuum expectation values can realize {\it cosmologically} flat direction along which it can generate the observed density perturbations, and after the end of inflation -- the coherent oscillations of the Higgses reheat the universe with all the observed degrees of freedom, without causing any problem for the electroweak phase transitio…
We study the possibilities and the implications of a spontaneous breakdown of charge in the MSSM and in the $Z_3$-symmetric NMSSM. The breakdown is triggered by the charged states of the Higgs doublets acquiring vacuum expectation values. In the MSSM, it is known that the presence of a charge conserving minimum for the tree-level Higgs potential precludes a deeper (global) charge-breaking minimum. We find that the inclusion of radiative correction to the potential does not alter the situation while a deeper charge-conserving minimum could arise, albeit with no major practical consequences. In …
We revisit the constraints on the parameter space of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), from charge and color breaking minima in the light of information on the Higgs from the LHC so far. We study the behavior of the scalar potential keeping two light sfermion fields along with the Higgs in the pMSSM framework and analyze the stability of the vacuum. We find that for lightest stop $\lesssim 1$ TeV and small $μ\lesssim 500$ GeV, the absolute stability of the potential can be attained only for $|X_{t}| \lesssim \sqrt{ 6 m_{\tilde{t}_1} m_{\tilde{t}_2}}$. The bounds become stronger…
We reanalyze the possibility of CP violation in the Higgs sector of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). Contrary to the result of previous analysis, spontaneous CP violation can not occur by only chargino and neutralino radiative corrections since the vacuum does not stable. Top and stop radiative corrections are crucially needed. However even with this correction there is no experimentally allowed region in \tan β\geq 1. This situation is not remedied even if the stop left-right mixing is included. We also analyze explicit CP violation in the Higgs sector of the MSSM and show th…
In the MSSM, we make a careful tree-level study of Charge and Color Breaking conditions in the plane $(H_2, \tilde{u}_L, \tilde{u}_R)$, focusing on the top quark scalar case. A simple and fast procedure to compute the VEVs of the dangerous vacuum is presented and used to derive a model-independent optimal CCB bound on $A_t$. This bound takes into account all possible deviations of the CCB vacuum from the D-flat directions. For large $\tan β$, it provides a CCB maximal mixing for the stop scalar fields $\tilde{t}_1,\tilde{t}_2$, which automatically rules out the Higgs maximal mixing $|A_t|=\sqr…
We study the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) with minimal flavor violation (MFV), imposing constraints from flavor physics observables and MSSM Higgs searches, in light of the recent discovery of a 125 GeV Higgs boson by ATLAS and CMS. We analyze the electroweak vacuum stability conditions to further restrict the MSSM parameter space. In addition, a connection to ultraviolet physics is shown via an implementation of renormalization group running, which determines the TeV-scale spectrum from a small set of minimal supergravity parameters. Finally, we investigate the impact from dar…
In light of recent experimental results, we present updated bounds on the lightest Higgs boson mass in the Standard Model (SM) and in the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM). The vacuum stability lower bound on the SM Higgs boson mass lies above the MSSM lightest Higgs boson mass upper bound for a large amount of SUSY parameter space. We postulate a fourth generation of fermions to see how the area of inconsistency changes, and discover that the MSSM is salvagable if a fourth generation is added to the MSSM (MSSM4).
Next-to-MSSM is a viable model which is equipped with two features suited for electroweak baryogensis (EWBG): first-order phase transition not restricted by the Higgs spectrum and tree-level CP violation in the Higgs sector free from the nEDM constraints. We study the model when the expectation value of the singlet scalar is of the weak scale. Then the vacuum stability condition puts a novel upper bound on the charged Higgs mass. We determined allowed parameter region by requiring that the each Higgs boson is heavier than 114GeV or its coupling to Z boson is smaller than 0.1.
The possibility of identification of an observable CMS $μ^+ μ^-$ excess at 28 GeV in the channel $pp\to μ^+ μ^- b \bar b$ at $\sqrt{s}$=8 TeV and 13 TeV as a manifestation of one of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) Higgs bosons is investigated. The MSSM parametric scenarios in the regime of large threshold corrections involving low-mass CP-odd scalar, a 125 GeV CP-even scalar and other Higgs bosons with suitable masses are found, where the alignment limit conditions for the Higgs couplings are respected. Perturbative unitarity bounds and constraints on the electroweak vacuum st…
If the Standard Model (SM) is an effective theory, as currently believed, it is valid up to some energy scale $Λ$ to which the Higgs vacuum expectation value is sensitive throughout radiative quadratic terms. The latter ones destabilize the electroweak vacuum and generate the SM hierarchy problem. For a given perturbative Ultraviolet (UV) completion, the SM cutoff can be computed in terms of fundamental parameters. If the UV mass spectrum involves several scales the cutoff is not unique and each SM sector has its own UV cutoff $Λ_i$. We have performed this calculation assuming the Minimal Supe…
The scalar potential of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) admits the existence of vacua with non-vanishing expectation values of electrically and color charged fields. If such minima are deep enough, the physical electroweak vacuum is rendered unstable by quantum tunneling. By comparing the lifetime of the electroweak vacuum with the age of the universe, the MSSM parameter space can be constrained. Furthermore, the appearance of charge and color breaking minima associated with the stop sector is strongly correlated with the Higgs mass, which has been recently measured at the Lar…
Exploring MSSM parameter space after the discovery of Higgs Boson with mass 125 GeV naturally demands large top-squark mixing or large trilinear coupling parameter $A_t$ in particular, so as to avoid excessively heavy squark, specially for the universal models like CMSSM. We study stability of electroweak symmetry breaking vacua in possible presence of deeper charge-color symmetry breaking minima within MSSM. Besides stable vacua, we consider scenarios characterized by the presence of global CCB minima, with SM like charge and color conserving vacuum, having stability over cosmologically large…
The minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) is extended by including an additional pair of constrained Higgs doublet superfields through which the electroweak symmetry is nonlinearly realized. The superpotential couplings of this constrained Higgs doublet pair to the MSSM Higgs doublet pair catalyze the later nontrivial vacuum expectation values. The mass spectrum of the Higgs scalars and Higgsino-gaugino sector is presented for several choices of supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking and Higgs superpotential mass parameters. The effect of the the additional constrained fields and multiple vacuum…
We reconsider the possible presence of charge and colour breaking minima in the scalar potential of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) and its minimal generalization with R-parity explicitly broken by bilinear terms (RMSSM). First we generalize some results previously derived for the MSSM case. Next we investigate how robust is the MSSM against its RMSSM extension. We examine the constraints on the RMSSM parameter space that follow from the required absence of charge breaking minima in the scalar potential. We point out the possibility of generating non--zero vacuum expectation v…
We study the processes `gluon gluon -> squark antisquark CP-odd Higgs' within the theoretical framework of the Supergravity (SUGRA) inspired Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) at the leading order (LO) in perturbative Quantum Chromo-Dynamics (QCD). Other than constituting a novel production mechanism of the neutral, CP-odd Higgs particle, they also allow one to relate the size of the corresponding production rates to the ratio of the vacuum expectation values of the two Higgs fields tan(beta), to the trilinear couplings A_0 and to the sign of the Higgsino mass term sign(mu). This int…
Recently it was shown that there is a unique Z_4^R symmetry for the MSSM which allows the Yukawa couplings and dimension five neutrino mass operator, forbids the mu term and commutes with SO(10). This Z_4^R symmetry contains matter parity as a subgroup and forbids dimension four and five proton decay operators. We show how to construct string vacua with discrete R symmetries in general and this symmetry in particular, and present an explicit example which exhibits the exact MSSM spectrum, the Z_4^R symmetry as well as other desired features such as gauge-top unification. We introduce the Hilbe…
The existence of multiple non-equivalent minima of the scalar potential in SUSY models both raises technical challenges and introduces interesting physics. The technical challenges are now that one has to find several minima and evaluate which is the deepest, as well as calculate the tunneling time from a false vacuum to the true vacuum. We present here studies on the vacuum stability and color/charge breaking minima in the CMSSM and R parity violating minima in a B-L extended MSSM.
In this article we provide explicit computations of the quantum corrections to the lightest CP-even Higgs Boson mass in the real version of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. We compute the contributions coming from the SUSY-QCD sector with a precision of three loops at order $O(α_tα_s^2)$. The renormalization procedure adopted is based on the dimensional reduction scheme in order to preserve supersymmetry to all perturbative orders. The calculation extends the region of validity of previous studies to the whole supersymmetric parameter space. The involved master integrals have been co…
In multi-Higgs models, the properties of one neutral scalar state approximate those of the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson in a limit where the corresponding scalar field is roughly aligned in field space with the scalar doublet vacuum expectation value. In a scenario of alignment without decoupling, a SM-like Higgs boson can be accompanied by additional scalar states whose masses are of a similar order of magnitude. In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), alignment without decoupling can be achieved due to an accidental cancellation of tree-level and radiative loop-level effects.…
In the "intense--coupling" regime all Higgs bosons of the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM) are rather light and have comparable masses of O(100 GeV). They couple maximally to electroweak gauge bosons, and for large ratios of the vacuum expectation values of the two Higgs doublet fields, tanβ, they interact strongly with the standard third generation fermions. We present in this note a comprehensive study of this scenario. We summarize the main phenomenological features, and the accordance with the direct constraints from Higgs boson searches at LEP2 and the Tevatro…
We study the Higgs sector in the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with and without explicit CP violation, focusing on the case of weak scale expectation value of the singlet field. We scan a wide range of the parameter space to find out allowed regions by requiring that the electroweak vacuum be the global minimum of the effective potential and that the neutral Higgs bosons with moderate gauge coupling be heavier than the lower bound on the Higgs boson in the standard model. Among the allowed parameters, some sets admit the situation in which the light Higgs bosons couple with the…
We present the idea that the vacuum can choose one pair of Higgs doublets by making the $μ$ parameter a dynamical field called {\it massion}. The {\it massion} potential leading to the dynamical solution is suggested to arise from the small instanton interaction when the gauge couplings become strong near the cutoff scale $M_s$ or $M_P$. One can construct supergravity models along this line. We also present an explicit example with a trinification model from superstring.
We analyse the mass spectrum of the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model at the low tan beta fixed point. We find that the model only satisfies experimental and dark matter bounds in regions where the vacuum is meta-stable -- ie where it violates `unbounded from below' (UFB) bounds. Adding a small amount of R-parity violation solves these problems but the absolute upper bound on the lowest higgs mass m_{h^0}<97 GeV remains. We present the predicted sparticle mass spectrum as a function of the gluino mass m_g.
We study an extension of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with a gauge group $SU(2)_1\otimes SU(2)_2$ breaking to $SU(2)_L$. The extra wino has an enhanced gauge coupling to the SM-like Higgs boson and, if light, has a relevant impact on the weak scale phenomenology. The low energy Higgs quartic coupling is modified both by extra $D$-term corrections and by a modification of its renormalization group evolution from high energies. At low values of $\tanβ$, the latter effect may be dominant. This leads to interesting regions of parameter space in which the model can accommodate a 125 Ge…
Many models of high energy physics possess metastable vacua. It is conceivable that the universe can get trapped in such a false vacuum, irrespective of its origin and prior history, at an earlier stage during its evolution. The ensuing false vacuum inflation results in a cold and empty universe and has a generic graceful exit problem. We show that an inflection point inflation along the flat directions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) can resolve this graceful exit problem by inflating the bubble which nucleate out of a false vacuum. The important point is that the initial …
We examine the possible extension of the parameter space of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM), as expressed via the renormalization-group equations in terms of universal soft supersymmetry-breaking terms at the unification scale, to include tachyonic input scalar masses. Many models with negative masses-squared for scalars at the unification scale may be viable because the small sizes of the masses-squared allow them to change signs during the renormalization-group evolution to the electroweak scale. However, in many cases, there is, in addition to the electrowe…
In various unified extensions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, the Yukawa couplings of the third generation are predicted to be of the same order. As a result, low energy measured mass ratios, require large ratios of the standard model Higgs vacuum expectation values, corresponding to a large value of the parameter $tanβ$. We present analytic solutions for the Yukawa couplings and the Higgs and third generation squark masses, in the case of large top and bottom Yukawa couplings. We examine regions of these Yukawas which give predictions for the top mass compatible with the present…
We study the Higgs sector of the secluded $U(1)'$-extended MSSM (sMSSM) focusing on CP violation. Using the one-loop effective potential that includes contributions from quarks and squarks in the third generation, we search for the allowed region under theoretical and experimental constraints. It is found that the possible region for the electroweak vacuum to exist is quite limited, depending on the parameters in the model. The masses and couplings of the Higgs bosons are calculated with/without CP violation. Even at the tree level, CP violation is possible by complex soft SUSY breaking masses…
We calculate the one-loop contributions to the MSSM effective potential when the scalar top fields have non-zero vacuum expectation values and study their impact on charge and colour breaking bounds.
We analyze a scalar potential of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) with neutrino mass operators along Unbounded-From-Below (UFB) and Color and/or Charged Breaking (CCB) directions. We show necessary conditions to avoid the potential minima which can be deeper than the realistic vacuum. These conditions would constrain more strongly than conditions in the MSSM without taking into account neutrino mass operators, and can improve the predictive power of supersymmetric models with neutrino mass operators.
We study the complete one loop contribution to H^\pm\to W^\pm V, V= Z, γ, both in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and in the Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM). We evaluate the MSSM contributions and compare them with the 2HDM ones taking into account b\to sγconstraint, vacuum stability and unitarity constraints in the case of 2HDM, as well as experimental constraints on the MSSM and 2HDM parameters. In the MSSM, we found that in the intermediate range of \tanβ\la 10 and for large A_t, the branching ratio of H^\pm \to W^{\pm} Z can be of the order 10^{-3} while the branching ratio…
The addition of non-renormalizable terms involving the Higgs fields to the MSSM (BMSSM) ameliorates the little hierarchy problem of the MSSM. We analyze in detail the two main cosmological issues affected by the BMSSM: dark matter and baryogenesis. The regions for which the relic abundance of the LSP is consistent with WMAP and collider constraints are identified, showing that the bulk region and other previously excluded regions are now permitted. Requiring vacuum stability limits the allowed regions. Based on a two-loop finite temperature effective potential analysis, we show that the electr…
R parity violating trilinear couplings $λ'_{1jk}$ of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) are constrained from the limit on the electron neutrino mass. Strong limits on these couplings follow from the earlier neglected contribution due to sneutrino vacuum expectation values. The limits on most of the $λ'_{1jk}$ couplings derived here are stronger than the existing ones for a wide range in parameters of MSSM. These limits strongly constrain the interpretation of recent HERA results in $e^+ p$ scattering in terms of production of squarks through $R$ violating couplings. In particular…
In this work, we have investigated the nature of the electroweak phase transition in the U(1) extended minimal supersymmetric standard model without introducing any exotic fields. The effective potential has been estimated exactly at finite temperature taking into account the whole particle spectrum. For reasonable values of the lightest Higgs and neutralino, we found that the electroweak phase transition could be strongly first order due to: (1) the interactions of the singlet with the doublets in the effective potential, and (2) the evolution of the wrong vacuum that delays the transition.
In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) searches for the heaviest CP-even and CP-odd Higgs $H$, $A$ to tau-lepton pairs severely constrain the parameter region for large values of $\tanβ$ and light Higgs bosons $H$, $A$. We demonstrate how the experimental constraint can be avoided by new decays to light third-generation sfermions, whose left-right couplings to $H$ can be maximised in regions of large trilinear couplings $A_{b}$, $A_τ$ for sbottoms and staus, or large supersymmetric (SUSY) Higgs mass $μ$ for stops. Due to the $\tanβ$-enhancement in the production cross-sections via…
We calculate dark matter scattering rates in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM), allowing the soft supersymmetry-breaking masses of the Higgs multiplets, m_{1,2}, to be non-universal (NUHM). Compared with the constrained MSSM (CMSSM) in which m_{1,2} are required to be equal to the soft supersymmetry-breaking masses m_0 of the squark and slepton masses, we find that the elastic scattering cross sections may be up to two orders of magnitude larger than values in the CMSSM for similar LSP masses. We find the following preferred ranges for the spin-independent cross…
The electroweak phase transition and the sphaleron decoupling condition in the MSSM are revisited taking the latest experimental data into account. The light Higgs boson scenario and the ordinary decoupling limit which are classified by the relative size between the CP-odd Higgs boson mass and Z boson mass are considered within the context of electroweak baryogenesis. We investigate v/T at not only the critical temperature at which the effective potential has two degenerate minima but also the nucleation temperature of the critical bubbles, where v is a vacuum expectation value of the Higgs bo…
We construct effective 3d field theories for the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, relevant for the thermodynamics of the cosmological electroweak phase transition. The effective theories include a 3d theory for the bosonic sector of the original 4d theory; a 3d two Higgs doublet model; and a 3d SU(2)+Higgs model. The integrations are made at 1-loop level. In integrals related to vacuum renormalization we take into account only quarks and squarks of the third generation. Using existing non-perturbative lattice results for the 3d SU(2)+Higgs model, we then derive infrared safe upper bounds…
