An efficient numerical algorithm to evaluate one-loop amplitudes using tensor integrals is presented. In particular, it is shown by explicit calculations that for ordered QCD amplitudes with a number of external legs up to 10, its performance is competitive with other methods.
We show that the Gottfried and the Bjorken integrals have the same nonperturbative evolution, which is related to the gluon polarization in the proton.
We review the conventional field theory description of the string motivated technique. This technique is applied to the one-loop five-gluon amplitude. To evaluate the amplitude a general method for computing dimensionally regulated one-loop integrals is outlined including results for one-loop integrals required for the pentagon diagram and beyond. Finally, two five-gluon helicity amplitudes are given.
We describe a new framework for soft gluon resummation, based on path integral methods. The approach recovers previous results obtained in the eikonal approximation, in which all emitted gluons become soft. Furthermore, a clear physical interpretation allows straightforward extension of the framework to beyond the eikonal approximation, and we use this to classify the structure of next-to-eikonal corrections to matrix elements.
The one-loop polarization operator of neutral gluons in the background constant Abelian isotopic, $H_{3}$, and hypercharge, $H_{8}$, chromomagnetic fields combined with $A_0$ electrostatic potential at high temperature is calculated. The case when $A_0=0$ is investigated separately. The proper time method is applied. It is found that neutral gluons do not acquire magnetic masses in the background fields, in contrast to the charged ones. The application of the results are discussed.
We consider hard electroproduction of mesons at twist-3 level and focus our attention on helicity flip amplitudes corresponding to the production of transversely polarized mesons by transverse photons. We demonstrate that helicity-flip amplitude for the transversely polarized particles are closely related to the contributions of the matrix elements of the tensor gluon operator which can serve as pure gluonic probe of the hadrons. Using standard factorisation approach and Wanzura-Wilczek approximation for the twist-3 matrix elements we find that such amplitudes do not have divergencies from the…
We have calculated the NLO corrections for the leading twist amplitude of the reaction $γ^*γ\toππ$ at large virtuality of the photon and at $W^2\ll Q^2$. With a simple model for the two-pion quark and gluon distribution amplitudes we have estimated that the NLO effects may reduce the leading-order amplitude by as much as 30%. We have found that besides the usual twist-2 quark and gluon operators the NLO amplitude receives contribution from a distribution associated with twist-2 tensor gluon operator. The new gluon distribution can be investigated by studying the azimuthal asymmetry of the cros…
We construct the energy-momentum tensor for the gauge fields which describe the collective excitations of the quark-gluon plasma. We rely on the description of the collective modes that we have derived in previous works. By using the conservation laws for energy and momentum, we obtain three different versions for the tensor $T^{μν}$, which are physically equivalent. We show that the total energy constructed from $T^{00}$ is positive for any non-trivial field configuration. Finally, we present a new non-abelian solution of the equations of motion for the gauge fields. This solution corresponds…
A model of scalar quarks and scalar gluons is used to derive transport equations for quarks and gluons. In particular, the collision integral is studied. The self-energy diagrams are organized according to the number of loops. A generalized Boltzmann equation is obtained, which involves at the level up to two loops all possible two -> two parton scattering processes and corrections to the process q bar q -> g.
We considered the electro- and photoproduction of ρand other vector mesons with moderately large transverse momentum in the scattering of unpolarized electrons on unpolarized nucleons and nuclei. For these processes we have analyzed how to extract the novel fragmentation functions \bar b_1^q(z), \bar b_1^G(z), describing tensor polarization, and the photon double spin-flip distribution Δ^γfrom the angular distribution of meson decay products.
We consider a possibility that inside the proton and, more generally, inside the hadrons there are additional partons - tensor-gluons, which can carry a part of the proton momentum. The tensor-gluons have zero electric charge, like gluons, but have a larger spin. Inside the proton a nonzero density of the tensor-gluons can be generated by the emission of tensor-gluons by gluons. The last mechanism is typical for non-Abelian tensor gauge theories, in which there exists a gluon-tensor-tensor vertex of order g. Therefore the number of gluons changes not only because a quark may radiate a gluon or…
We give a simple physical derivation of the photon emission rate from the weakly coupled quark-gluon plasma connected with the collinear processes $q\to γq$ and $q\bar{q}\to γ$. The analysis is based on the light-cone path integral approach to the induced radiation. Our results agree with that by Arnold, Moore and Yaffe obtained using the real-time thermal perturbation theory. It is demonstrated that the solution of the AMY integral equation is nothing but the time-integrated Green's function of the light-cone path integral approach written in the momentum representation.
We consider the gauge invariant Drell-Yan hadron tensor which includes the standard and non-standard diagram contributions. The non-standard diagram contribution is appeared owing to the complexity of the twist three $B^V(x_1,x_2)$-function where the gluon pole manifests. We use the contour gauge conception which allows us to fix easily the spurious uncertainties in the gluon propagator. The contour gauge condition is generated by the corresponding Wilson lines in both the standard and non-standard diagrams. We demonstrate the substantial role of the non-standard diagram for forming of the rel…
A model of scalar gluons and scalar quarks that successfully gives a ln s behavior in high energy qq scattering and which contains a three gluon vertex is used to derive transport equations for the quarks and gluons. Quasiparticle and semiclassical approximations are utilized. In particular, the collision integral is studied. At first the terms are organized according to the number of gluon exchange interactions, and it is shown explicitly that the occurrence of all two body differential scattering cross sections in the Boltzmann equation requires an evaluation of all terms to this order. One …
Based on the constituent quasiparticle model of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP), color quantum path-integral Monte-Carlo (PIMC) calculations of the thermodynamic properties of the QGP are performed. We extend our previous zero chemical potential simulations to the QGP at finite baryon chemical potential. The results indicate that color PIMC can be applied not only above the QCD critical temperature $T_c$ but also below $T_c$. Besides reproducing the lattice equation of state our approach yields also valuable additional insight into the internal structure of the QGP, via the pair distribution func…
We further consider a possibility that inside the proton and, more generally, inside the hadrons, there are additional partons - tensor gluons, which can carry a part of the proton momentum. The tensorgluons have zero electric charge, like gluons, but have a larger spin. Inside the proton a nonzero density of the tensorgluons can be generated by the emission of tensorgluons by gluons. The last mechanism is typical for non-Abelian tensor gauge theories. The process of gluon splitting suggests that part of the proton momentum that was carried by neutral partons is shared between vector and tenso…
In a recent article we were considering a possibility that inside a proton and, more generally, inside hadrons there could be additional partons - tensor-gluons, which carry a part of the proton momentum. Tensor-gluons have zero electric charge, like gluons, but have a larger spin. Therefore we call them tensor-gluons. The nonzero density of tensor-gluons can be generated by the emission of tensor-gluons by gluons. Tensor-gluons can further split into the pairs of tensor-gluons through a different channels. To describe all these processes one should know the general splitting probabilities for…
It is known the single transverse spin asymmetry in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering can be factorized by a twist-3 distribution function $T_F$, which contains a gluon field strength tensor. With transverse gluon included in the power expansion, we find the gluon field strength tensor can be recovered definitely in soft-gluon-pole contribution at leading order of $α_s$ expansion. This conclusion holds in Feynman and light-cone gauges.
The basic box and phase space integrals needed to compute at second order the three-jet decay rate of the Z-boson into massive quarks are presented in this paper. Dimensional Regularization is used to regularize the infrared divergences that appear in intermediate steps. Finally, the cancellation of these divergences among the virtual and the real contributions is showed explicitly.
The dependence of the diffractive nuclear shadowing and the nuclear pion excess effect on the deuteron spin alignment leads to a substantial tensor polarisation of sea partons in the deuteron. The corresponding tensor structure function $b_2(x,Q^2)$ rises towards small $x$, and we predict the about one percent tensor asymmetry $A_2(x,Q^2) =b_2(x,Q^2)/F_{2D}(x,Q^2)$. We calculate the shadowing of the gluon distribution in the deuteron for two different pomeron gluon-distributions. For a hard gluon dominated $\Pom$-structure function, as advocated by H1, we find large gluon shadowing, which appe…
We explore and clarify the connections between two different forms of the renormalisation group equations describing the quantum evolution of hadronic structure functions at small $x$. This connection is established via a Langevin formulation and associated path integral solutions that highlight the statistical nature of the quantum evolution, pictured here as a random walk in the space of Wilson lines. The results confirm known approximations, form the basis for numerical simulations and widen the scope for further analytical studies.
The gluon polarization tensor for the quark-gluon plasma with shear viscosity is derived with the viscous chromohydrodynamics. The longitudinal and transverse dielectric functions are evaluated from the gluon polarization tensor, through which the polarization energy loss suffered by a fast quark traveling through the viscous quark-gluon plasma is investigated. The numerical analysis indicates that shear viscosity significantly reduces the polarization energy loss.
We calculate the mixed tensor susceptibility of QCD vacuum in the framework of the global color symmetry model. In our calculation, the functional integration over gluon fields can be performed and the gluonic vacuum observable can be expressed in terms of the quark operators and the gluon propagator. The mixed tensor susceptibility was obtained with the subtraction of the perturbative contribution which is evaluated by the Wigner solution of the quark gap equation. Using several different effective quark-quark interaction models, we find the values of the mixed tensor susceptibility are very …
The correlator of two gluonic operators plays an important role for example in transport properties of a Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) or in sum rules for glueballs. In [1] an operator product expansion (OPE) at zero temperature was performed for the correlators of two scalar operators $O_1=-\frac{1}{4} G^{μν}G_{μν}$ and two QCD energy-momentum tensors $T^{μν}$. There we presented analytical two-loop results for the Wilson coefficient $C_1$ in front of the gluon condensate operator $O_1$. In this paper these results are extended to three-loop order. The three-loop Wilson coefficient $C_0$ in front …
Massive on-shell operator matrix elements and self-energy diagrams with outer gluon lines are calculated analytically at $O(α_s^2)$, using Mellin-Barnes integrals and representations through generalized hypergeometric functions. This method allows for a direct evaluation without decomposing the integrals using the integration-by-parts method.
A treatment is given of the nonperturbative QCD vacuum in a magnetic field. The low-energy equation for the trace of the energy-momentum tensor in a magnetic field is derived. It is shown that the derivatives with respect to a magnetic field of the quark and gluon contributions to the trace of the energy-momentum tensor are equal. The dependence of the gluon condensate on the magnetic field strength is derived both for strong and weak fields.
We point out that hard exclusive production of tensor mesons $f_2(1270)$ with helicity $λ=\pm 2$ is dominated by the gluon component in the meson wave function and can be used to determine gluon admixture in tensor mesons in a theoretically clean manner. We present a detailed analysis of the tensor meson distribution amplitudes and calculate the transition form factor $γ+γ^*\to f_2(1270)$ for one real and one virtual photon.
The quark scalar, axial and tensor charges of nucleon are calculated in the Schwinger-Dyson formalism. We first calculate these charges in the rainbow-ladder truncation using the IR cut quark-gluon vertex, and show that the result is in agreement with the known data. We then perform the same calculation with the phenomenological IR singular quark-gluon vertex. In this case, the Schwinger-Dyson equation does not converge. We show that this result suggests the requirement of additional corrections to the rainbow-ladder truncation, due to the interaction between quark and gluons in the deep IR re…
In the framework of SU(2) gluodynamics, we derive the tensor structure of the neutral gluon polarization tensor in an Abelian homogeneous magnetic field at finite temperature and calculate it in one-loop approximation in the Lorentz background field gauge. The imaginary time formalism and the Schwinger operator method are used. The latter is extended to the finite temperature case. The polarization tensor turns out to be non transversal. It can be written as a sum of ten tensor structures with corresponding form factors. Seven tensor structures are transversal, three are not. We represent the …
We compute the top quark contribution to the two-loop amplitude for on-shell $Z$ boson pair production in gluon fusion, $gg \to ZZ$. Exact dependence on the top quark mass is retained. For each phase space point the integral reduction is performed numerically and the master integrals are evaluated using the auxiliary mass flow method, allowing fast computation of the amplitude with very high precision.
We study the polarization and dispersion properties of gluons moving within a weakly magnetized background at one-loop order. To this end, we show two alternative derivations of the charged fermion propagator in the weak field expansion and use this expression to compute the lowest order magnetic field correction to the gluon polarization tensor. We explicitly show that, in spite of its cumbersome appearance, the gluon polarization tensor is transverse as required by gauge invariance. We also show that none of the three polarization modes develops a magnetic mass and that gluons propagate alon…
We compare the effective dynamics of soft fields, based on temperature field theory, with the mean field dynamics from non-Abelian kinetic theory. We derive the polarization tensor with the leading logarithmic factor $\log({gT\overμ})$ from the effective Boltzmann-Langevin equation given by Litim and Manuel. The tensor is identical with effective one-loop contributions within the hard thermal loop effective theory.
We present an analytic method to compute the one-loop magnetic correction to the gluon polarization tensor starting from the Landau-level representation of the quark propagator in the presence of an external magnetic field. We show that the general expression contains the vacuum contribution that can be isolated from the zero-field limit for finite gluon momentum. The general tensor structure for the gluon polarization also contains two spurious terms that do not satisfy the transversality properties. However, we also show that the coefficients of this structures vanish and thus do not contrib…
Nonperturbative infrared finite solutions for the gluon polarization tensor have been found, and the possibility that gluons may have a dynamically generated mass is supported by recent Monte Carlo simulation on the lattice. These solutions differ among themselves, due to different approximations performed when solving the Schwinger-Dyson equations for the gluon polarization tensor. Only approximations that minimize energy are meaningful, and, according to this, we compute an effective potential for composite operators as a function of these solutions in order to distinguish which one is selec…
The cross section for inclusive production of $f_2(1270)$ meson is calculated. We include both the mechanism of gluon-gluon fusion as well as the $ππ$ final-state rescattering. The contribution of the gluon-gluon fusion is calculated within the $k_t$-factorization approach with modern unintegrated gluon distribution functions (UGDFs). Some parameters for the $g^* g^* \to f_2$ vertex are extracted from the $γγ\to f_2(1270) \to ππ$ reactions. The results strongly depend on the parametrization of the $g^* g^* \to f_2(1270)$ form factor. Results of our model are compared to the ALICE preliminary d…
We present the one-loop helicity amplitudes with five external gluons. The computation employs string-based methods, new techniques for performing tensor integrals, and improvements in the spinor helicity method.
In a recent paper by the author (Chen in JHEP 02:115, 2020), the reduction of Feynman integrals in the parametric representation was considered. Tensor integrals were directly parametrized by using a generator method. The resulting parametric integrals were reduced by constructing and solving parametric integration-by-parts (IBP) identities. In this paper, we furthermore show that polynomial equations for the operators that generate tensor integrals can be derived. Based on these equations, two methods to reduce tensor integrals are developed. In the first method, by introducing some auxiliary…
We present the master integrals relevant for computing the complete set of leading-colour analytic helicity amplitudes for top-quark pair production via gluon fusion at two-loops in QCD. We include corrections due to massive fermion loops which give rise to integrals involving elliptic curves. We also elaborate on the structure of singularities that play an important role in the numerical evaluation of the iterated integrals and their analytic continuation.
The Wilson contour integral approach is applied to resum the soft gluon radiative correctins to the quark form factors in the Sudakov regime. The one-loop order results for the quark-photon (color singlet form factor) and quark-gluon (color non-singlet form factor) vertices are presented. The explicit expressions for the vacuum averaged contour integrals in $g^2$ accuracy are derived for an arbitrary gauge field. The corresponding one-loop cusp anomalous dimensions are found in the case of perturbative gluon field in arbitrary covariant gauge. It is shown that the gauge dependence drops out fr…
In this letter, we revise the QED gauge invariance for the hadron tensor of Drell-Yan type processes with the transversely polarized hadron. We perform our analysis within the Feynman gauge for gluons and make a comparison with the results obtained within the light-cone gauge. We demonstrate that QED gauge invariance leads, first, to the need of a non-standard diagram and, second, to the absence of gluon poles in the correlators $\langle\barψγ_\perp A^+ψ\rangle$ related traditionally to $dT(x,x)/dx$. As a result, these terms disappear from the final QED gauge invariant hadron tensor. We also v…
We present a calculation of the three-gluon vertex from its Dyson-Schwinger equation in Landau-gauge Yang-Mills theory. All tensor structures are considered and back-coupled self-consistently. Within the chosen truncation, two-loop diagrams as well as diagrams containing Green's functions beyond the primitively divergent ones are neglected. Only the three-gluon vertex is chosen to be dynamical; the other propagators and vertex functions are provided as separate solutions of their Dyson-Schwinger equations or by Ansatz. For both scaling- and decoupling-type solutions we observe, in agreement wi…
We calculate inclusive cross section for $f_2(1270)$ tensor meson production via color singlet gluon-gluon fusion in the $k_t$-factorization approach with unintegrated gluon distribution functions (UGDFs). The process may be potentially interesting in the context of searches for saturation effects. The energy-momentum tensor, equivalent to helicity-2 coupling, and helicity-0 coupling are used for the $g^* g^* \to f_2(1270)$ vertex. Two somewhat different parametrizations of helicity-2 and helicity-0 tensorial structure from the literature are used in our calculations. Some parameters are extra…
Thermodynamic properties of a strongly coupled quark-gluon plasma (QGP) of constituent quasiparticles are studied by a color path-integral Monte Carlo simulations (CPIMC). For our simulations we have presented QGP partition function in the form of color path integral with new relativistic measure instead of Gaussian one used in Feynman and Wiener path integrals. For integration over color variable we have also developed procedure of sampling color variables according to the group SU(3) Haar measure. It is shown that this method is able to reproduce the available quantum lattice chromodynamics …
We perform a recursive reduction of one-loop $n$-point rank $R$ tensor Feynman integrals [in short: $(n,R)$-integrals] for $n\leq 6$ with $R\leq n$ by representing $(n,R)$-integrals in terms of $(n,R-1)$- and $(n-1,R-1)$-integrals. We use the known representation of tensor integrals in terms of scalar integrals in higher dimension, which are then reduced by recurrence relations to integrals in generic dimension. With a systematic application of metric tensor representations in terms of chords, and by decomposing and recombining these representations, we find the recursive reduction for the ten…
We give a new method for the reduction of tensor integrals to finite integral representations and UV divergent analytic expressions. This includes a new method for the handling of the gamma-algebra. TYPO IN EQUATION (5) CORRECTED, MACROS REORDERED.
A new method for the reduction of one-loop tensor 5-point integrals to related 4-point integrals is proposed. In contrast to the usual Passarino-Veltman reduction and other methods used in the literature, this reduction avoids the occurrence of inverse Gram determinants, which potentially cause severe numerical instabilities in practical calculations. Explicit results for the 5-point tensor coefficients are presented up to rank 4. The expressions for the reduction of the relevant 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-point tensor coefficients to scalar integrals are also included; apart from these standard integr…
We present the analytic calculation of the planar master integrals which contribute to compute the two-loop light-fermion electroweak corrections to the production of a Higgs boson in association with a jet in gluon-gluon fusion. The complete dependence on the electroweak-boson mass is retained. The master integrals are evaluated by means of the differential equations method and the analytic results are expressed in terms of multiple polylogarithms up to weight four.
We consider the direct photon production in two hadron collision with one of the hadrons being transversely polarized. By using the contour gauge for gluon fields, we find that there are new twist-$3$ terms present in the hadron tensor of the considering process in addition to the standard twist-$3$ terms. In this work, we demonstrate that the significance of these new terms are two-fold: first, they are crucial to both the QED and QCD gauge invariance and, second, their contributions to the hadron tensor are at least the same as those from the standard ones. We also study the resuting effects…
We compute the master integrals for massless two-loop vertex graphs with three off-shell legs. These master integrals are relevant for the QCD corrections to H to V*V* (where V = W, Z) and for two-loop studies of the triple gluon (and quark-gluon) vertex. We employ the differential equation technique to provide series expansions in epsilon for the various master integrals. The results are analytic and contain a new class of two-dimensional harmonic polylogarithms.
In a previous paper a new approach has been introduced for computing, recursively and numerically, one-loop tensor integrals. Here we describe a few modifications of the original method that allow a more efficient numerical implementation of the algorithm.
The gauge-invariant three-gluon vertex obtained from the pinch technique is characterized by thirteen nonzero form factors, which are given in complete generality for unbroken gauge theory at one loop. The results are given in $d$ dimensions using both dimensional regularization and dimensional reduction, including the effects of massless gluons and arbitrary representations of massive gauge bosons, fermions, and scalars. We find interesting relations between the functional forms of the contributions from gauge bosons, fermions, and scalars. These relations hold only for the gauge-invariant pi…
A set of one-loop vertex and box tensor-integrals with massless internal particles has been obtained directly without any reduction method to scalar-integrals. The results with one or two massive external lines for the vertex integral and zero or one massive external lines for the box integral are shown in this report. Dimensional regularization is employed to treat any soft and collinear (IR) divergence. A series expansion of tensor-integrals with respect to an extra space-time dimension for the dimensional regularization is also given. The results are expressed by very short formulas in a su…
We report on the progress in constructing contracted one-loop tensors. Analytic results for rank R=4 tensors, cross-checked numerically, are presented for the first time.
We briefly discuss an algorithm for the tensor reduction of the two-loop massless crossed boxes, with light-like external legs, and the computation of the relative master integrals.
We present the ${\cal O}(α_s^3)$ virtual QCD corrections to the process $h \rightarrow g+g+g$ due to interference of born and two-loop amplitudes, where $h$ is a massive spin-2 particle and $g$ is the gluon. We assume that the SM fields couple to $h$ through the SM energy momentum tensor. Our result constitutes one of the ingredients to full NNLO QCD contribution to production of a massive spin-2 particle along with a jet in the scattering process at the LHC. In particular, this massive spin-2 could be a KK mode of a ADD graviton in large extra dimensional model or a RS KK mode in warped extra…
We present the 1-loop renormalization of the energy momentum tensor using the overlap fermion and a HYP-smeared Iwasaki gauge action. We also calculate the 1-loop matching coefficient that convert the lattice simulation results renormalized in the RI/MOM scheme to the $\overline{\textrm{MS}}$ scheme. The dependence of the renormalization on the gauge action and the number of HYP smearing steps are also investigated.
A recently derived approach to the tensor reduction of 5-point one-loop Feynman integrals expresses the tensor coefficients by scalar 1-point to 4-point Feynman integrals completely algebraically. In this letter we derive extremely compact algebraic expressions for the contractions of the tensor integrals with external momenta. This is based on sums over signed minors weighted with scalar products of the external momenta. With these contractions one can construct the invariant amplitudes of the matrix elements under consideration, and the evaluation of one-loop contributions to massless and ma…
