We study gravitational waves generated by the cosmological magnetic fields induced via bubble collisions during the electroweak (EW) and QCD phase transitions. The magnetic field generation mechanisms considered here are based on the use of the fundamental EW minimal supersymmetric (MSSM) and QCD Lagrangians. The gravitational waves spectrum is computed using a magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence model. We find that gravitational wave spectrum amplitude generated by the EW phase transition peaks at frequency approximately 1-2 mHz, and is of the order of $10^{-20}-10^{-21}$; thus this signal is possibly detectable by Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA). The gravitational waves generated during the QCD phase transition, however, are outside the LISA sensitivity bands.
We study the gravitational production of super-Hubble-mass dark matter in the very early universe. We first review the simplest scenario where dark matter is produced mainly during slow roll inflation. Then we move on to consider the cases where dark matter is produced during the transition period between inflation and the subsequent cosmological evolution. The limits of smooth and sudden transitions are studied, respectively. The relic abundances and the cosmological collider signals are calculated.
We calculate the gravitational radiation background generated from boson star binaries formed in locally dense clusters with formation rate tracked by the regular star formation rate. We compute how the the frequency window in gravitational waves is affected by the boson field mass and repulsive self-coupling, anticipating constraints from EPTA and LISA. We also comment on the possible detectability of these binaries.
Gravitational wave standard sirens can be used to arbitrate the $H_0$ tension within the following several years. In the future, the observation of gravitational wave standard sirens would be developed into a powerful new cosmological probe because they can play an important role in breaking parameter degeneracies formed by other observations. Therefore, gravitational wave standard sirens are of great importance for the future accurate measurement of cosmological parameters.
We consider thermal effects in the propagation of gravitational waves on a cosmological background. In particular, we consider scalar field cosmologies and study gravitational modes near cosmological singularities. We point out that the contribution of thermal radiation can heavily affect the dynamics of gravitational waves giving enhancement or dissipation effects both at quantum and classical level. These effects are considered both in General Relativity and in modified theories like $F(R)$ gravity which can be easily reduced to scalar-tensor cosmology. The possible detection and disentanglem…
Starting from the energy-momentum of matter and gravitational field in the framework of General Relativity and Teleparallel Gravity, we obtain the energy-momentum complex in flat FRW spacetime. We show that the complex vanishes at background level considering the various prescriptions, that is the Einstein, Møller, Landau-Lifshitz and Bergmann ones. On the other hand, at level of linear cosmological perturbations, the energy-momentum complex is different from zero and coincides in the various prescriptions. Finally, we evaluate the gravitational energy for different cosmological epochs governe…
We provide evidence that gravitational radiation in a 4D radiation-dominated universe, with equation-of-state $w=1/3$, consists of two components: helicity-2 gravitons and massless scalar acoustic waves. On physical grounds, we would expect the homogeneous solution of the Weyl tensor components to be a good approximation to its inhomogeneous counterparts, whenever the observer is located well in the far zone of an isolated astrophysical source of cosmological gravitational radiation. We show explicitly that these homogeneous and inhomogeneous solutions both receive contributions from the gauge…
Gravitational waves provide a new probe of the Universe which can reveal a number of cosmological and astrophysical phenomena that cannot be observed by electromagnetic waves. Different frequencies of gravitational waves are detected by different means. Among them, precision measurements of pulsar timing provides a natural detector for gravitational waves with light-year scale wavelengths. In this review, first a basic framework to detect a stochastic gravitational wave background using pulsar timing array is introduced, and then possible interpretations of the latest observational result of 1…
The quasi-isotropic expansion for a simple two-fluid cosmological model, including radiation and string gas is constructed. The first non-trivial order expressions for the metric coefficients, energy densities and velocities are explicitly written down. Their small and large time asymptotics are studied. It is found that the large time asymptotic for the anisotropic component of the metric coefficients grows faster than that of the isotropic (trace-proportional) component.
