We present a general argument which suggests that the Bartels-Lipatov-Vacca Odderon intercept should be equal to one to all orders in the perturbation theory. The argument is based on the validity of the so called omega-expansion in the high energy limit. It can be further supported by the analogous pattern observed in the case of the anomalous dimensions which is a consequence of the momentum sum rule. In addition, we conjecture that the BFKL kernel should satisfy the transverse momentum sum rule. Finally, it is shown that the higher order kinematical effects do not change the BLV Odderon intercept.
The small x evolution of the QCD pomeron and the QCD odderon is investigated in the mean field limit of the Color Glass Condensate. The resulting system of coupled nonlinear evolution equations is transformed to the momentum space and analyzed at a very small momentum transfer. The main properties of the C-even and C-odd dipole densities in momentum space are obtained analytically. The critical scaling dimension is found for the odderon and the universal asymptotic behavior of the solutions is determined for small and large gluon momenta. We find that the same saturation scale characterizes bo…
We present the calculation of the leading contribution to the quark Sivers function at small-Bjorken $x$. This calculation uses the high energy scattering approximation and operator formalism developed by Kovchegov and Sievert to obtain a dominant contribution to the quark Sivers function coming from the spin-dependent odderon, in agreement with the results of Dong, Zhen, and Zhou. We then calculate this dominant contribution in the diquark model of the proton to obtain a small-$x$ estimate for the Sivers function.
In the QCD the small~$x$ evolution of the interacting pomerons and odderons is studied with all angular momenta $l$ taken into account. The resulting system of coupled nonlinear evolution equations is formulated in the momentum space and solved numerically. Excellent convergence in $l$ is observed. Also it is found that states with $l>1$ play an important role and substantially reduce the basic pomeron state at large rapidities
We report an odderon Regge trajectory emerging from a field theoretical Coulomb gauge QCD model for the odd signature JPC (P=C= -1) glueball states (oddballs). The trajectory intercept is clearly smaller than the pomeron and even the omega trajectory's intercept which provides an explanation for the nonobservation of the odderon in high energy scattering data. To further support this result we compare to glueball lattice data and also perform calculations with an alternative model based upon an exact Hamiltonian diagonalization for three constituent gluons.
It is fundamental that the phase of an elastic scattering amplitude is related to its energy variation. We repeat a previous fit to proton-proton and proton-antiproton elastic scattering data from 13 to 13000 GeV, taking better account of the very high accuracy of the 13 TeV data. The conclusion remains that there is no evidence for the existence of an odderon in the small-t data
We explore the possibility of observing Odderon exchange in proton--ion collisions at the LHC, via the ultraperipheral photoproduction of C-even mesons. As well as the signal, we consider in detail the principle backgrounds, due to QCD--initiated production (i.e. double Pomeron exchange) and $γγ$ fusion. We find that while the photon--initiated background is dominant at very small momentum transfer, this can be effectively removed by placing a reasonable cut on the transverse momentum of the produced meson. In the case of QCD--initiated production, we show this is in general strongly suppresse…
Starting from the leading Odderon solution of the three gluon system in perturbative QCD we introduce, as a first step towards the transition to the nonperturbative region, an infrared cutoff and use the running QCD coupling constant. In our numerical analysis we find that the fixed cut solution with intercept one persists, hinting at a physical Odderon with intercept one and a small t-slope.
We show that in the Mclerran-Venugopalan model, an axial asymmetrical valence quark distributions in the transverse plane of a transversely polarized proton can give rise to a spin dependent odderon. Such polarized odderon is responsible for the transverse single spin asymmetries(SSAs) for jet production in the backward region of pp collisions and open charm production in semi-inclusive DIS process.

We summarize recent progress in the resummation of perturbative evolution at small x. We show that the problem of incorporating BFKL small x logs in GLAP evolution is now completely solved, and that the main effect of small x resummation is to reduce the growth of the gluon at small x in the HERA and LHC regions.

We review the current status of small x resummation of evolution of parton distributions and of deep-inelastic coefficient functions. We show that the resummed perturbative expansion is stable, robust upon different treatments of subleading terms, and that it matches smoothly to the unresummed perturbative expansions, with corrections which are of the same order as the typical NNLO ones in the HERA kinematic region. We discuss different approaches to small x resummation: we show that the ambiguities in the resummation procedure are small, provided all parametrically enhanced terms are included…
There has been a revived interest in small-x resummation in recent times. The main motivation was its success in describing small-x HERA data without the inclusion of non-perturbative corrections. In this contribution I will review the recent developments in the field.
We analyze transverse momentum ($Q_T$) resummation of a colorless final state, e.g. Higgs production in gluon fusion or the production of a lepton pair via the Drell-Yan mechanism, in the limit where the invariant mass of the final state is much less then the center-of-mass energy, i.e. $Q^2\ll s$. We show how the traditional resummation of logarithms of $Q_T/Q$ can be supplemented with the resummation of the leading logarithmic contributions at small $x=Q^2/s$ and we compute the necessary ingredients to perform such joint resummation.
We summarize our recent results on the small x resummation of the singlet anomalous dimension. We recall the main features of our approach, and briefly describe some work in progress on the inclusion of subleading corrections to it.
The impact of the resummation of leading small-$x$ terms in the anomalous dimensions is briefly summarized for the evolution of non--singlet and singlet polarized structure functions.
I review recent theoretical progress in the resummation of small x contributions to the evolution of parton distributions, in view of its potential significance for accurate phenomenology at future colliders. I show that a consistent perturbative resummation of collinear and energy logs is now possible, and necessary if one wishes to use recent NNLO results in the HERA kinematic region.
A brief survey is given of recent results on the resummation of leading small-x terms for unpolarized and polarized non--singlet and singlet structure function evolution.
We summarize our recent results on small x resummation in full QCD with n_f quark flavours and discuss their phenomenological impact in the extraction of parton distributions from present day structure function data and their extrapolation to the kinematics relevant for future colliders such as the LHC.
High-energy logarithmic correction are enhanced when the ratio, $x = \frac{Q^2}{s}$ between the typical energy scale of a scattering process $Q$ and the total centre of mass energy available $s$ is small. We discuss recent developments on their resummation in differential cross sections in rapidity, transverse momentum and invariant mass and their application to heavy flavour production at the LHC.
The status of small x resummation in the timelike kinematics is discussed. We present a general procedure to extract the large logarithms of x in the MS factorization scheme and to resum them in a closed form. New results for the doubly-logarithm-resummed coefficient functions will be reviewed. All our resummation formulae are in agrement with the fixed NNLO computations recently done by other groups in the \bar{MS} scheme.
We propose a unified and simple viewpoint to various evolution equations appropriate in different kinematic regions. We show that the resummation technique reduces to the Altarelli-Parisi equation, if the transverse degrees of freedom of a parton are ignored, to the Balitskii-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov equation, if the momentum fraction of a parton vanishes, and to the Gribov-Levin-Ryskin equation, if the recombination of gluons is included.
We apply the formalism developed earlier for studying transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs) at small Bjorken $x$ to construct the small-$x$ asymptotics of the quark Sivers function. First, we explicitly construct the complete fundamental "polarized Wilson line" operator to sub-sub-eikonal order: this object can be used to study a variety of quark TMDs at small-$x$. We then express the quark Sivers function in terms of dipole scattering amplitudes containing various components of the "polarized Wilson line" and show that the dominant (eikonal) term which contributes…
We extend our previous results on small-x resummation in the pure Yang--Mills theory to full QCD with nf quark flavours, with a resummed two-by-two matrix of resummed quark and gluon splitting functions. We also construct the corresponding deep-inelastic coefficient functions, and show how these can be combined with parton densities to give fully resummed deep-inelastic structure functions F_2 and F_L at the next-to-leading logarithmic level. We discuss how this resummation can be performed in different factorization schemes, including the commonly used MSbar scheme. We study the importance of…
We apply our systematic NLO small x resummation of singlet splitting functions to the scaling violations of structure functions and compare the results with data. We develop various theoretical tools which are needed in order to relate resummed parton distributions to measurable structure functions, and we present results from a variety of fits to HERA data for the structure functions F_2 and F_L using the resummation. The behaviour of the singlet splitting functions at small x and fixed Q^2 is effectively parametrized as x^{-lambda}. We find that, for lambda small or negative, the resummed de…
Small-$x$ logarithmic enhancements arising from high-energy gluon emissions affect both the evolution of collinearly-factorized parton densities and partonic coefficient functions. With the higher collider energy reached by the LHC, the prospect of a future high-energy collider, and the recent deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) results at small-$x$ from HERA, providing phenomenological tools for performing small-$x$ resummation has become of great relevance. In this paper we discuss a framework to perform small-$x$ resummation for both parton evolution and partonic coefficient functions and we de…
Total resummation of leading logarithms of x contributing to the spin-dependent structure function g_1 ensures its steep rise at small x. DGLAP lacks such a resummation. Instead, the DGLAP expressions for g_1 are complemented with special phenomenological fits for the initial parton densities. The singular factors x^{-α} in the fits mimic the resummation and also ensure the steep (power-like) rise of g_1 at the small-x region. Furthermore, DGLAP by definition cannot describe the region of small Q^2 whereas our approach can do it.
The summation of the small x corrections to hard scattering QCD amplitudes by collinear factorisation method is reconsidered and the K-factor is derived in leading log x approximation. The corresponding expression by Catani and Hautmann (1994) has to be corrected. The significance of the correction is demonstrated in the examples of structure function F_L and of exclusive electroproduction.
We discuss the inclusion of running coupling effects in perturbative small x evolution equations. We show that a running coupling BFKL-like x-evolution equation is fully compatible, up to higher twist corrections, with the standard factorized perturbative evolution of parton distributions. We then use this result, combined with the well-known Airy asymptotics, to prove that the oscillations which are present in the running-coupling BFKL solution do not affect the associated splitting functions, which instead remain smooth in the small x limit. This allows us to give a prescription to include r…
We study the transverse-momentum distribution of hadrons produced in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (SIDIS). We consider cross sections for various combinations of polarizations of the initial lepton and nucleon or the produced hadron, for which we perform the resummation of large double-logarithmic perturbative corrections arising at small transverse momentum. We present phenomenological results for the processes $lp\to lπX$ with longitudinally polarized leptons and protons. We discuss the impact of the perturbative resummation and of estimated non-perturbative contributions on the …
In global fits of parton distribution functions (PDFs) a large fraction of data points, mostly from the HERA collider, lies in a region of $x$ and $Q^2$ that is sensitive to small-$x$ logarithmic enhancements. Thus, the proper theoretical description of these data requires the inclusion of small-$x$ resummation. In this work we provide all the necessary ingredients to perform a PDF fit to deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) data which includes small-$x$ resummation in the evolution of PDFs and in the computation of DIS structure functions. To this purpose, not only we include the resummation of DI…
It has been observed recently that a consistent LO BFKL gluon evolution leads to a steep growth of F_2(x,Q^2) for x -> 0 almost independently of Q^2. We show that current data from the DESY HERA collider are precise enough to finally rule out a pure BFKL behaviour in the accessible small x region. Several attempts have been made by other groups to treat the BFKL type small x resummations instead as additions to the conventional anomalous dimensions of the successful renormalization group ``Altarelli-Parisi'' equations. We demonstrate that all presently available F_2 data, in particular at lowe…
The summation of the small x-corrections to hard-scattering QCD amplitudes by collinear factorisation method is reconsidered and the K-factor is derived in leading ln x approximation with a result differing from the corresponding expression by Catani and Hautmann (Nucl. Phys. B 427, 475, 1994). The significance of the difference is demonstrated in the examples of structure function F_L and of exclusive vector meson electroproduction. The formulation covers the channels of non-vanishing conformal spin n paving the way for new applications.
Over the past few years considerable progress has been made on the resummation of double-logarithmically enhanced threshold (large-x) and high-energy (small-x) higher-order contributions to the splitting functions for parton and fragmentation distributions and to the coefficient functions for inclusive deep-inelastic scattering and semi-inclusive e^+e^- annihilation. We present an overview of the methods which allow, in many cases, to derive the coefficients of the highest three logarithms at all orders in the strong coupling from next-to-next-to-leading order results in massless perturbative …
We present a detailed description of the Q^2 and x dependence of the structure functions F2 and FL as extracted from the Deep Inelastic Scattering data at HERA in the small Bjorken x region. Making use of a collinearly-improved BFKL equation at next-to-leading order and a treatment of the running of the coupling using non-Abelian physical renormalization together with the BLM scale choice allows us to reach low values of Q^2. We also provide some predictions for future lepton-hadron colliders.
Resummation techniques are essential for high-precision phenomenology at current and future high-energy collider experiments. Perturbative computations of cross sections often suffer from large logarithmic corrections, which must be resummed to all orders to restore the reliability of predictions from first principles. The precise understanding of the all-order structure of field theories allows for fundamental tests of the Standard Model and new physics searches. In this white paper, we review recent progress in modern resummation techniques and outline future directions. In particular, we fo…
We discuss several methods of calculating the DIS structure functions F_2(x,Q^2) based on BFKL-type small x resummations. Taking into account new HERA data ranging down to small x and low Q^2, the pure leading order BFKL-based approach is excluded. Other methods based on high energy factorization are closer to conventional renormalization group equations. Despite several difficulties and ambiguities in combining the renormalization group equations with small x resummed terms, we find that a fit to the current data is hardly feasible, since the data in the low Q^2 region are not as steep as the…
The proton spin dependent structure function $g_1^p$ is analysed using the unified scheme incorporating both Altarelli-Parisi evolution and the double $ln^2(1/x)$ effects at low $x$. The latter are found to be very important in the region of $x$ which can possibly be probed at HERA. Predictions for the polarized gluon distribution $ΔG(x)$ at low $x$ are also given.
We have derived the coefficients of the highest three 1/x-enhanced small-x logarithms of all timelike splitting functions and the coefficient functions for the transverse fragmentation function in one-particle inclusive e^+e^- annihilation at (in principle) all orders in massless perturbative QCD. For the longitudinal fragmentation function we present the respective two highest contributions. These results have been obtained from KLN-related decompositions of the unfactorized fragmentation functions in dimensional regularization and their structure imposed by the mass-factorization theorem. Th…
We numerically analyse the evolution of the flavor non-singlet $g_{1}$ structure function taking into account the all-order resummation of $α_{s} ln^{2}x$ terms which is expected to have much stronger effects than the DGLAP evolution in the small x region. We include a part of the next-to-leading logarithmic corrections coming from the resummed ``coefficient function'' which are not considered in the calculation of Blümlein and Vogt to respect the factorization scheme independence. It is pointed out that the resummed coefficient function gives unexpectedly large suppression factor over the exp…
The explicit expressions for the non-singlet DIS structure functions obtained at small x by resumming the most singular logarithmic contributions are discussed and compared in detail with the DGLAP evolution for different values of x and Q^2. The role played by the initial conditions for the parton densities currently used in the DGLAP analysis, on the small-$x$ behavior of the non-singlet structure functions is discussed. Explicit expressions are presented which implement the NLO DGLAP contributions with our small-x results.
The distribution of W and Z bosons produced with small transverse momentum (pt) at hadron colliders receives important contributions from large logarithms arising from soft gluon emission. Although conventionally the all-orders resummation of these `Sudakov' logarithms is performed in impact parameter (Fourier transform) space, pt-space resummation is also possible, and offers certain advantages. We present a detailed phenomenological analysis of W and Z production at small pt at the Tevatron $p \bar p$ collider, using pt-space resummation. A good description of the CDF and D0 data can be obtai…
We evaluate the impact of heavy-quark masses on transverse momentum distributions of W, Z, and supersymmetric neutral Higgs bosons at the Tevatron and LHC. The masses of charm and bottom quarks act as non-negligible momentum scales at small transverse momentum, and affect resummation of soft and collinear radiation. We point out inconsistencies in the treatment of heavy-flavor channels at small transverse momentum in massless factorization schemes, and formulate small transverse momentum resummation in a general-mass variable flavor number factorization scheme. The improved treatment of the qu…
An alternative equation, resumming of the $\ln^2 1/x$ terms for the polarized nonsinglet structure function $g_1^{NS}$ at small $x$ is presented. Construction of the GLAP-like formula for the auxiliary function, corresponding to the $g_1^{NS}$ at rescaled $Q^2$ variable is shown. Predictions of this approach for the $g_1^{NS}$ function at small $x$ in a case of a flat as well as a dynamical input are given. The role of the fixed coupling constant and the running one is also discussed.
It was shown recently that standard resummation of logarithms of $Q/p_T$ can be supplemented with the resummation of logarithmic contributions at large $x=Q^2/s$ in the case of a colourless final state such as Higgs produced via gluon fusion or the production of a lepton pair via Drell--Yan mechanism. Such an improved transverse momentum resummation takes into account soft emissions that are emitted at very small angles. We report on recent phenomenological studies of a combined threshold-improved $p_T$ and threshold resummation formalism to the Higgs boson produced at the LHC where small-$p_T…
The NLL corrections to the BFKL kernel are known to be very large, to the extent that even for small values of alpha_s, they lead to physical cross sections which are not positive definite. It is shown in the context of a toy model, that such pathological behaviour is an artifact of the truncation at NLL order, and is associated in particular with double transverse logarithms. These are resummed in a manner consistent with the full NLL kernel, and are shown to change its properties quite considerably.
We discuss different resummations of large logarithms that arise in hard-scattering cross sections of quarks and gluons in regions of large and small x. The large-x logarithms are typically dominant near threshold for the production of a specified final state. These soft and collinear gluon corrections produce large enhancements of the cross section for many processes, notably top quark and Higgs production, and typically the higher-order corrections reduce the factorization and renormalization scale dependence of the cross section. The small-x logarithms are dominant in the regime where the m…
Analysis of small-x semi-inclusive DIS hadroproduction suggests that multiple parton radiation leads to a broadening of transverse momentum distributions beyond that predicted by a straightforward calculation in the Collins-Soper-Sterman formalism. This effect can be modeled by a modification of the resummed form factor in the small-x region. We discuss the impact of such a modification on the production of electroweak bosons at hadron-hadron colliders. We show that if substantial small-x broadening is observed in forward Z boson production in the Tevatron Run-2, it would strongly affect predi…

We present a global fit to HERA data on the reduced cross section measured in electron-proton collisions in the region of small Bjorken-$x$: $x\le x_0=10^{-2}$ and moderate to high values of the virtuality $Q^2<Q^2_{max}=650$ GeV$^2$. The main dynamical ingredients in the fits are two recently proposed improved BK equations for the description of the small-$x$ evolution of the dipole scattering amplitude. These two new equations provide an all-order resummation of double collinear logarithms that arise beyond leading logarithmic accuracy. We show that a very good description of data is possibl…
Analysis of semi-inclusive DIS hadroproduction suggests broadening of transverse momentum distributions at $x$ below a few $10^{-3}$, which can be modeled in the Collins-Soper-Sterman formalism by a modification of impact-parameter-dependent parton densities. We discuss the consequences of such a modification for the production of electroweak bosons at hadron-hadron colliders. If substantial small-$x$ broadening is observed in forward Z boson production in the Tevatron Run-2, it will strongly affect predicted transverse momentum distributions for W, Z, and Higgs boson production at the Large H…
We compute the effects of soft-gluon resummation, at the next-to-leading-logarithmic level, in the fixed-target hadroproduction cross section for prompt photons. We find in general that the corrections to the fixed next-to-leading-order results are large for large renormalization scales, and small for small scales. This leads to a significant reduction of the scale dependence of the results for most experimental configurations of interest. We compare our results to the recent measurements by the E706 and UA6 collaborations.
We investigate effects of threshold resummation of logarithmic corrections $\ln N$ in Mellin space quantitatively. Threshold resummation leads to enhancement of next-to-leading-order QCD predictions for jet production at large jet transverse energy, which is in the trend indicated by experimental data. We show that this enhancement is completely determined by the behavior of threshold resummation at small $N$, the region where hierachy among different powers of $\ln N$ is lost and current next-to-leading-logarithm resummation is not reliable. Our analysis indicates that more accurate threshold…
We describe an alternative approach to the prediction of W and Z transverse momentum distributions based on an extended version of the DDT formula. The resummation of large logarithms, mandatory at small qT, is performed in qT-space, rather than in the impact parameter b. The leading, next-to-leading and next-to-next-to-leading towers of logarithms are identical in the b-space and qT-space approaches. We argue that these terms are sufficient for W and Z production in the region in which perturbation theory can be trusted. Direct resummation in qT-space provides a unified description of vector …
We discuss the double-spin asymmetry \aqt in the transversely polarized Drell-Yan process at small transverse-momentum Q_T of the produced dilepton. The soft gluon corrections relevant for small Q_T are resummed to all orders in α_s, up to the next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. We show that the soft gluon corrections largely cancel in the spin asymmetry, but the significant corrections still remain. The asymmetries \aqt are calculated for pp collision at RHIC and J-PARC, and for p\bar{p} collision at GSI. A novel asymptotic formula for \aqt at small Q_T is presented, which provides a new app…
