Motivated by diffusion processes on metric graphs and ramified spaces, we consider an abstract setting for interface problems with coupled dynamic boundary conditions belonging to a quite general class. Beside well-posedness, we discuss positivity, $L^\infty$-contractivity and further invariance properties. We show that the parabolic problem with dynamic boundary conditions enjoy these properties if and only if so does its counterpart with time-independent boundary conditions. Furthermore, we prove continuous dependence of the solution to the parabolic problem on the boundary conditions in the considered class.
This paper is concerned with finite blow-up solutions of a one dimensional complex-valued semilinear heat equation. We provide locations and the number of blow-up points from the viewpoint of zeros of the solution.
We construct a solution to a complex nonlinear heat equation which blows up in finite time $T$ only at one blow-up point. We also give a sharp description of its blow-up profile. The proof relies on the reduction of the problem to a finite dimensional one and the use of index theory to conclude. We note that the real and imaginary parts of the constructed solution blow up simultaneously.
We consider the Cauchy problem for the complex valued semi-linear heat equation $$ \partial_t u - Δu - u^m =0, \ \ u (0,x) = u_0(x), $$ where $m\geq 2$ is an integer and the initial data belong to super-critical spaces $E^s_σ$ for which the norms are defined by $$ \|f\|_{E^s_σ} = \|\langle ξ\rangle^σ2^{s|ξ|}\hat{f}(ξ)\|_{L^2}, \ \ σ\in \mathbb{R}, \ s<0. $$ If $s<0$, then any Sobolev space $H^{r}$ is a subspace of $E^s_σ$, i.e., $\cup_{r \in \mathbb{R}} H^r \subset E^s_σ$. We obtain the global existence and uniqueness of the solutions if the initial data belong to $E^s_σ$ ($s<0, \ σ\geq d/2-2/…
In this paper, we consider the following complex-valued semilinear heat equation \begin{eqnarray*} \partial_t u = Δu + u^p, u \in \mathbb{C}, \end{eqnarray*} in the whole space $\mathbb{R}^n$, where $ p \in \mathbb{N}, p \geq 2$. We aim at constructing for this equation a complex solution $u = u_1 + i u_2$, which blows up in finite time $T$ and only at one blowup point $a$, with the following estimates for the final profile \begin{eqnarray*} u(x,T) &\sim & \left[ \frac{(p-1)^2 |x-a|^2}{ 8 p |\ln|x-a||}\right]^{-\frac{1}{p-1}}, u_2(x,T) &\sim & \frac{2 p}{(p-1)^2} \left[ \frac{ (p-1)^2|x-a|^2}{…

We show that not feeling the boundary estimates for heat kernels hold for any non-negative self-adjoint extension of the Laplace operator acting on vector-valued compactly supported functions on a domain in $\mathbb{R}^d$. They are therefore valid for any choice of boundary condition and we show that the implied constants can be chosen independent of the self-adjoint extension. The method of proof is very general and is based on finite propagation speed estimates and explicit Fourier Tauberian theorems obtained by Y. Safarov.
In this paper, we show that a hybrid method using coupled boundary measurements can determine electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and the product of heat capacity and heat density within a bounded domain on the plane uniquely up to a boundary-fixing diffromorphism.
In this paper, our goal is to define a measure valued solution of compressible Navier--Stokes--Fourier system for a heat conducting fluid with Dirichlet boundary condition for temperature in a bounded domain. The definition is based on the weak formulation of entropy inequality and ballistic energy inequality. Moreover, we obtain the weak(measure valued)-strong uniqueness property of this solution with the help of relative energy.
The large-time behavior of a nonlinearly coupled pair of measure-valued transport equations with discontinuous boundary conditions, parameterized by a positive real-valued parameter $λ$, is considered. These equations describe the hydrodynamic or fluid limit of many-server queues with reneging (with traffic intensity $λ$), which model phenomena in diverse disciplines, including biology and operations research. For a broad class of reneging distributions with finite mean and service distributions with finite mean and hazard rate function that is either decreasing or bounded away from zero and i…
We study a simple one-dimensional coupled wave-heat system and obtain a sharp estimate for the rate of energy decay of classical solutions. Our approach is based on the asymptotic theory of $C_0$-semigroups and in particular on a result due to Borichev and Tomilov (Math. Ann., 2010), which reduces the problem of estimating the rate of energy decay to finding a growth bound for the resolvent of the semigroup generator. This technique not only leads to an optimal result, it is also simpler than the methods used by other authors in similar situations.
A solution of the heat equation with a distribution-valued potential is constructed by regularization. When the potential is the generalized derivative of a Hölder continuous function, regularity of the resulting solution is in line with the standard parabolic theory.
In this note we obtain local derivative estimates of Shi-type for the heat equation coupled to the Ricci flow. As applications, in part combining with Kuang's work, we extend some results of Zhang and Bamler-Zhang including distance distortion estimates and a backward pseudolocality theorem for Ricci flow on compact manifolds to the noncompact case.
We introduce a straightforward method to analyze the blow-up of systems of ordinary differential inequalities, and apply it to study the blow- up of solutions to a weakly coupled system of semilinear heat equations. We prove that the solution blows up in a finite time under the subcritical condition. Moreover, we give estimates of lifespan of the solution and lower estimates of the blow-up rate for a localized average of each component.
High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) waves are known to induce localized heat to a targeted area during medical treatments. In turn, the rise in temperature influences their speed of propagation. This coupling affects the position of the focal region as well as the achieved pressure and temperature values. In this work, we investigate a mathematical model of nonlinear ultrasonic heating based on the Westervelt wave equation coupled to the Pennes bioheat equation that captures this so-called thermal lensing effect. We prove that this quasi-linear model is well-posed locally in time and does…
We introduce matrix coupled (local and nonlocal) dispersionless equations, construct wide classes of explicit multipole solutions, give explicit expressions for the corresponding Darboux and wave matrix valued functions and consider their asymptotics in some interesting cases. We consider the scalar cases of coupled, complex coupled and nonlocal dispersionless equations as well.
This paper deals with existence and uniqueness results for a transient nonlinear radiative-conductive system in three-dimensional case. This system describes the heat transfer for a grey, semi-transparent and non-scattering medium with general boundary conditions. We reformulate the full transient state system as a fixed-point problem. The existence and uniqueness proof is based on Banach fixed point theorem.
This paper investigates two existence theorems for the path-dependent heat equation, which is the Kolmogorov equation related to the window Brownian motion, considered as a C([--T, 0])-valued process. We concentrate on two general existence results of its classical solutions related to different classes of final conditions: the first one is given by a cylindrical non necessarily smooth r.v., the second one is a smooth generic functional.
As a first approach to the study of systems coupling finite and infinite dimensional natures, this article addresses the stability of a system of ordinary differential equations coupled with a classic heat equation using a Lyapunov functional technique. Inspired from recent developments in the area of time delay systems, a new methodology to study the stability of such a class of distributed parameter systems is presented here. The idea is to use a polynomial approximation of the infinite dimensional state of the heat equation in order to build an enriched energy functional. A well known effic…
In this contribution we prove the existence of weak solutions to degenerate parabolic systems arising from the coupled moisture movement, transport of dissolved species and heat transfer through partially saturated porous materials. Physically motivated mixed Dirichlet-Neumann boundary conditions and initial conditions are considered. Existence of a global weak solution of the problem is proved by means of semidiscretization in time and by passing to the limit from discrete approximations. Degeneration occurs in the nonlinear transport coefficients which are not assumed to be bounded below and…
We consider a class of vector-valued elliptic operators with unbounded coefficients, coupled up to the first-order, in the Lebesgue space L^p(R^d;R^m) with p in (1,\infty). Sufficient conditions to prove generation results of an analytic C_0-semigroup T(t), together with a characterization of the domain of its generator, are given. Some results related to the hypercontractivity and the ultraboundedness of the semigroup are also established.
We discuss the existence of pullback attractors for multivalued dynamical systems on metric spaces. Such attractors are shown to exist without any assumptions in terms of continuity of the solution maps, based only on minimality properties with respect to the notion of pullback attraction. When invariance is required, a very weak closed graph condition on the solving operators is assumed. The presentation is complemented with examples and counterexamples to test the sharpness of the hypotheses involved, including a reaction-diffusion equation, a discontinuous ordinary differential equation and…
