Fitting the dielectric response of collisionless plasmas by continued fractions

We present an approximation scheme for the dielectric response of thermal collisionless plasmas at arbitrary degeneracy. A T-fraction representation is obtained from the known expansions of the real part of the dielectric function for small and large arguments. The partial numerators and denominators of the continued fraction are generated by a modified Q-D algorithm. For several typical values of the degeneracy parameter $θ$, extensive tables for the expansion coefficients and the partial numerators and denominations are given allowing for an easy implementation of the fitting function. Also, an error analysis is performed.

High energy density plasma mediated by collisionless resonance absorption inside dielectrics

We demonstrate for the first time to our knowledge the generation of overcritical plasma densities inside transparent solids over long distances using femtosecond laser pulses. This opens new avenues for high energy density physics in confined geometry such as warm dense matter study or the synthesis of new material phases. Nonlinear frequency shift of electrostatic waves in general collisionless plasma: unifying theory of fluid and kinetic nonlinearities

The nonlinear frequency shift is derived in a transparent asymptotic form for intense Langmuir waves in general collisionless plasma. The formula describes both fluid and kinetic effects simultaneously. The fluid nonlinearity is expressed, for the first time, through the plasma dielectric function, and the kinetic nonlinearity accounts for both smooth distributions and trapped-particle beams. Various known limiting scalings are reproduced as special cases. The calculation avoids differential equations and can be extended straightforwardly to other nonlinear plasma waves.

Nonlinear dispersion of stationary waves in collisionless plasmas

A nonlinear dispersion of a general stationary wave in collisionless plasma is obtained in a non-differential form from a single-particle oscillation-center Hamiltonian. Kinetic modeling of the electronic response of a dielectric plasma-facing solid

We present a self-consistent kinetic theory for the electronic response of a plasma-facing dielectric solid. Based on the Poisson equation and two sets of spatially separated Boltzmann equations, one for electrons and ions in the plasma and one for conduction band electrons and valence band holes in the dielectric, the approach gives the quasi-stationary density and potential profiles of the electric double layer forming at the interface due to the permanent influx of electrons and ions from the plasma.
