This paper studies spinor two-point functions for spin-1/2 and spin-3/2 fields in maximally symmetric spaces such as de Sitter spacetime, by using intrinsic geometric objects. The Feynman, positive- and negative-frequency Green functions are then obtained for these cases, from which we eventually display the supercommutator and the Peierls bracket under such a setting in two-component-spinor language.
A review is given of the Peierls bracket formalism in field theory, and of a new, recent application of this concept to the analysis of dissipative systems.
Peierls brackets are part of the space-time approach to quantum field theory, and provide a Poisson bracket which, being defined for pairs of observables which are group invariant, is group invariant by construction. It is therefore well suited for combining the use of Poisson brackets and the full diffeomorphism group in general relativity. The present paper provides an introduction to the topic, with applications to gauge field theory.
In the space-of-histories approach to gauge fields and their quantization, the Maxwell, Yang--Mills and gravitational field are well known to share the property of being type-I theories, i.e. Lie brackets of the vector fields which leave the action functional invariant are linear combinations of such vector fields, with coefficients of linear combination given by structure constants. The corresponding gauge-field operator in the functional integral for the in-out amplitude is an invertible second-order differential operator. For such an operator, we consider advanced and retarded Green functio…

The concept of Lagrange structure allows one to systematically quantize the Lagrangian and non-Lagrangian dynamics within the path-integral approach. In this paper, I show that any Lagrange structure gives rise to a covariant Poisson brackets on the space of solutions to the classical equations of motion, be they Lagrangian or not. The brackets generalize the well-known Peierls' bracket construction and make a bridge between the path-integral and the deformation quantization of non-Lagrangian dynamics.
A set of brackets for classical dissipative systems, subject to external random forces, are derived. The method is inspired to the old procedure found by Peierls, for deriving the canonical brackets of conservative systems, starting from an action principle. It is found that an adaptation of Peierls' method is applicable also to dissipative systems, when the friction term can be described by a linear functional of the coordinates, as is the case in the classical Langevin equation, with an arbitrary memory function. The general expression for the brackets satisfied by the coordinates, as well a…
A general approach is proposed to constructing covariant Poisson brackets in the space of histories of a classical field-theoretical model. The approach is based on the concept of Lagrange anchor, which was originally developed as a tool for path-integral quantization of Lagrangian and non-Lagrangian dynamics. The proposed covariant Poisson brackets generalize the Peierls' bracket construction known in the Lagrangian field theory.
The infinite limit of Matrix Theory in 4 and 10 dimensions is described in terms of Moyal Brackets. In those dimensions there exists a Bogomol'nyi bound to the Euclideanized version of these equations, which guarantees that solutions of the first order equations also solve the second order Matrix Theory equations. A general construction of such solutions in terms of a representation of the target space co-ordinates as non-local spinor bilinears, which are generalisations of the standard Wigner functions on phase space, is given.
A supersymmetric Lorentz invariant mechanism for superspace deformations is proposed. It is based on an extension of superspace by one $λ_{a}$ or several Majorana spinors associated with the Penrose twistor picture. Some examples of Lorentz invariant supersymmetric Poisson and Mojal brackets are constructed and the correspondence: $θ_{mn}\leftrightarrow iψ_{m}ψ_{n},\quad C_{ab}\leftrightarrow λ_{a}λ_{b},\quad Ψ^{a}_{m}\leftrightarrow ψ_{m}λ^{a}$ mapping the brackets depending on the constant background into the Lorentz covariant supersymmetric brackets is established. The correspondence reveal…

It is shown that the nature of physical time requires the extended phase-space in mechanics to have a bundle structure with time as the 1-dimensional base manifold and the phase space as the fiber. This bundle picture of the extended phase space is then applied to fields in a covariant, `directly' Hamiltonian formalism. Variational principle in the covariant phase-space is discussed, Noether currents calculated for symmetry fields and a new bracket analogous to the Peierls bracket is defined.
An elementary presentation of the methods for the canonical quantization of constraint systems with Fermi variables is given. The emphasis is on the subtleties of the construction of an appropriate classical bracket that could be consistently replaced by commutators or anti--commutators of operators, as required by canonical quantization procedure for bosonic and fermionic degrees of freedom respectively. I present a consequent canonical quantization of the Dirac field, in which the role of Poincaré invariance is made marginal. This simple example provides an introduction to the Poincaré--free…
Starting with the well-defined product of quantum fields at two spacetime points, we explore an associated Poisson structure for classical field theories within the deformation quantization formalism. We realize that the induced star-product is naturally related to the standard Moyal product through an appropriate causal Green's functions connecting points in the space of classical solutions to the equations of motion. Our results resemble the Peierls-DeWitt bracket analyzed in the multisymplectic context. Once our star-product is defined we are able to apply the Wigner-Weyl map in order to in…
We study twists of supergravity theories and supersymmetric field theories, using a version of the pure spinor superfield formalism. Our results show that, just as the component fields of supersymmetric multiplets are the vector bundles associated to the equivariant Koszul homology of the variety of square-zero elements in the supersymmetry algebra, the component fields of the holomorphic twists of the corresponding multiplets are the holomorphic vector bundles associated to the equivariant Koszul homology of square-zero elements in the twisted supersymmetry algebra. The BRST or BV differentia…
In a previous work we showed that spin can be envisioned as living in a phase space that is dual to the standard phase space of position and momentum. In this work we demonstrate that the second class constraints inherent in this "Dual Phase Space" picture can be solved by introducing a spinorial parameterization of the spinning degrees of freedom. This allows for a purely first class formulation that generalizes the usual relativistic description of spinless particles and provides several insights into the nature of spin and its relationship with spacetime and locality. In particular, we find…
We prove the equivalence between two traditional approaches to the classical mechanics of a massive spinning particle in special relativity. One is the spherical top model of Hanson and Regge, recast in a Hamiltonian formulation with improved treatment of covariant spin constraints. The other is the massive twistor model, slightly generalized to incorporate the Regge trajectory relating the mass to the total spin angular momentum. We establish the equivalence by computing the Dirac brackets of the physical phase space carrying three translation and three rotation degrees of freedom. Lorentz co…
A geometric prequantization formula for the Poisson-Gerstenhaber bracket of forms found within the DeDonder-Weyl Hamiltonian formalism earlier is presented. The related aspects of covariant geometric quantization of field theories are sketched. In particular, the importance of the framework of Clifford and spinor bundles and superconnections in this context is underlined.
We present a proof that quantum Yang-Mills theory can be consistently defined as a renormalized, perturbative quantum field theory on an arbitrary globally hyperbolic curved, Lorentzian spacetime. To this end, we construct the non-commutative algebra of observables, in the sense of formal power series, as well as a space of corresponding quantum states. The algebra contains all gauge invariant, renormalized, interacting quantum field operators (polynomials in the field strength and its derivatives), and all their relations such as commutation relations or operator product expansion. It can be …
