We provide sufficient conditions of local solvability for partial differential operators with variable Colombeau coefficients. We mainly concentrate on operators which admit a right generalized pseudodifferential parametrix and on operators which are a bounded perturbation of a differential operator with constant Colombeau coefficients. The local solutions are intended in the Colombeau algebra $\G(\Om)$ as well as in the dual $\LL(\Gc(\Om),\wt{\C})$.
In this article we introduce the notion of fundamental solution in the Colombeau context as an element of the dual $\LL(\Gc(\R^n),\wt{\C})$. After having proved the existence of a fundamental solution for a large class of partial differential operators with constant Colombeau coefficients, we investigate the relationships between fundamental solutions in $\LL(\Gc(\R^n),\wt{\C})$, Colombeau solvability and $\G$- and $\Ginf$-hypoellipticity respectively.
The paper addresses questions of existence and regularity of solutions to linear partial differential equations whose coefficients are generalized functions or generalized constants in the sense of Colombeau. We introduce various new notions of ellipticity and hypoellipticity, study their interrelation, and give a number of new examples and counterexamples. Using the concept of $\G^\infty$-regularity of generalized functions, we derive a general global regularity result in the case of operators with constant generalized coefficients, a more specialized result for second order operators, and a …
The aim of this paper is to prove that the well known non solvable Mizohata type partial differential equations have Colombeau generalized solutions which are distributions if and only if they are solv- able in the space of Schwartz distributions. Therefore the Colombeau generalized solvability includes both a new solution concept and new mathematical objects as solutions.
We will show a local solvability result for a class of degenerate second order linear partial differential operators with a complex subprincipal symbol. Due to the form of the operators in the class the subprincipal symbol is invariantly defined and we shall give sufficient conditions for the local solvability to hold involving the real and the imaginary part of the latter. Under suitable conditions we will prove that the class under consideration is L^2 to L^2 locally solvable.
We study the homogeneous elliptic systems of order $2\ell$ with real constant coefficients on Lipschitz domains in $R^n$, $n\ge 4$. For any fixed $p>2$, we show that a reverse Hölder condition with exponent $p$ is necessary and sufficient for the solvability of the Dirichlet problem with boundary data in $L^p$. We also obtain a simple sufficient condition. As a consequence, we establish the solvability of the $L^p$ Dirichlet problem for $n\ge 4$ and $2-\e< p<\frac{2(n-1)}{n-3} +\e$. The range of $p$ is known to be sharp if $\ell\ge 2$ and $4\le n\le 2\ell +1$. For the polyharmonic equation, th…
We show the existence and the uniqueness of initial traces of nonnegative solutions to a semilinear heat equation on a half space of ${\mathbb R}^N$ under the zero Dirichlet boundary condition. Furthermore, we obtain necessary conditions and sufficient conditions on the initial data for the solvability of the corresponding Cauchy--Dirichlet problem. Our necessary conditions and sufficient conditions are sharp and enable us to find optimal singularities of initial data for the solvability of the Cauchy--Dirichlet problem.
We obtain necessary conditions and sufficient conditions for the solvability of the heat equation in a half-space of ${\bf R}^N$ with a nonlinear boundary condition. Furthermore, we study the relationship between the life span of the solution and the behavior of the initial function.
We study necessary conditions and sufficient conditions for the existence of local-in-time solutions of the Cauchy problem for superlinear fractional parabolic equations. Our conditions are sharp and clarify the relationship between the solvability of the Cauchy problem and the strength of the singularities of the initial measure.
The paper considers a boundary value problem for the high-order Lavrent'ev-Bitsadze equation. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the uniqueness of the solution are found. When substantiating the existence, the problem of "small denominators" arises. Sufficient conditions for the separability of the "small denominator" from zero are found. An example of a boundary value problem not solvable by the Fourier method is given, in the cases rectangle with integer side measurements.
In this paper, we study the solvability of the nonlinear Dirichlet problem with sum of the operators of independent non standard growths in a bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^{n}$. We obtain sufficient conditions and show the existence of weak solutions of the considered problem by using monotonicity and compactness methods together.
A necessary and sufficient condition for local solvability is presented for the linear partial differential operators $-X^2-Y^2+ia(x)[X,Y]$ in $\bold R^3=\{(x,y,t)\}$, where $X=\partial_x,\; Y=\partial_y+x^k\partial_t$, and $a\in C^{\infty}(\bold R^1)$ is real valued, for each positive integer $k$.
In this work, we present new results on solvability of the equation $A^{*}(D)f=μ$ for $f \in L^{p}$ and positive measure data $μ$ associated to an elliptic homogeneous linear differential operator $A(D)$ of order m. Our method is based on $(m,p)-$energy control of $μ$ giving a natural characterization for solutions when $1\leq p < \infty$. We also obtain sufficient conditions in the limiting case $p=\infty$ using {new $L^{1}$ estimates on measures for elliptic and canceling operators.
Let $(u,v)$ be a nonnegative solution to the semilinear parabolic system \[ \mbox{(P)} \qquad \cases{ \partial_t u=D_1Δu+v^p, & $x\in{\bf R}^N,\,\,\,t>0,$\\ \partial_t v=D_2Δv+u^q, & $x\in{\bf R}^N,\,\,\,t>0,$\\ (u(\cdot,0),v(\cdot,0))=(μ,ν), & $x\in{\bf R}^N,$ } \] where $D_1$, $D_2>0$, $0<p\le q$ with $pq>1$ and $(μ,ν)$ is a pair of nonnegative Radon measures or nonnegative measurable functions in ${\bf R}^N$. In this paper we study sufficient conditions on the initial data for the solvability of problem~(P) and clarify optimal singularities of the initial functions for the solvability.
A Dirichlet-type problem is studied for an equation of even order with variable coefficients. A criterion for the uniqueness of a solution is given. The solution is built in the form of a Fourier series. When justifying the convergence of the series, the problem of small denominators arises. Sufficient conditions for the separability of the denominator from zero are obtained. It is shown that the solvability of the problem is influenced not only by the dimension of the rectangle, but also by the orders of the specified derivatives at the lower boundary of the rectangle.
We study elliptic equations of order $2m$ with nonlocal boundary-value conditions in plane angles and in bounded domains, dealing with the case where the support of nonlocal terms intersects the boundary. We establish necessary and sufficient conditions under which nonlocal problems are Fredholm in Sobolev spaces and, respectively, in weighted spaces with small weight exponents. We also obtain an asymptotics of solutions to nonlocal problems near the conjugation points on the boundary, where solutions may have power singularities.
We study a model elliptic pseudo-differential equation and simplest boundary value problems for a half-space and a special cone in Sobolev--Slobodetskii spaces which have different smoothness with respect to separate variables. Sufficient conditions for a unique solvability for such boundary value problems are described.
We investigate a connection between solvability of the Dirichlet problem for an infinitely degenerate elliptic operator and the validity of an Orlicz-Sobolev inequality in the associated subunit metric space. For subelliptic operators it is known that the classical Sobolev inequality is sufficient and almost necessary for the Dirichlet problem to be solvable with a quantitative bound on the solution [11]. When the degeneracy is of infinite type, a weaker Orlicz-Sobolev inequality seems to be the right substitute [7]. In this paper we investigate this connection further and reduce the gap betwe…
In the first part of this article, we complete the program announced in the preliminary note [8] by proving a conjecture presented in [9] that states the equivalence of contractibility and p_{1}-stability for generalized spaces of formal barycenters and hence we get purely algebraic conditions for the solvability of the singular Liouville equation on Riemann surfaces. This relies on a structure decomposition theorem for these model spaces in terms of maximal strata, and on elementary combinatorial arguments based on the selection rules that define such spaces. Moreover, we also show that these…
Nonlocal problems for higher-order elliptic operators in dihedral and plane angles are considered. The Green formula is obtained, which leads to adjoint problems that take the form of nonlocal transmission problems in dihedral and plane angles. This allows us to establish necessary conditions of Fredholm solvability and sufficient conditions of one-valued solvability for nonlocal problems in dihedral angles.
We establish Dahlberg's perturbation theorem for non-divergence form operators L = A\nabla^2. If L_0 and L_1 are two operators on a Lipschitz domain such that the L^p Dirichlet problem for the operator L_0 is solvable for some p in (1,\infty) and the coefficients of the two operators are sufficiently close in the sense of Carleson measure, then the L^p Dirichlet problem for the operator L_1 is solvable for the same p. This is an improvement of the A_{\infty} version of this result proved by Rios in "The L^p Diriclet problem and nondivergence harmonic measure" (Trans. AMS 355, 2 (2003)). As a c…
The paper studies the local solvability and subellipticity for square systems of principal type. These are the systems for which the principal symbol vanishes of first order on its kernel. For systems of principal type having constant characteristics, local solvability is equivalent to condition (PSI) on the eigenvalues, see arXiv:0801.4043. This is a condition on the sign changes of the imaginary part of the eigenvalue along the oriented bicharacteristics of the real part. In the generic case when the principal symbol does not have constant characteristics, condition (PSI) is not sufficient, …
There is studied problem on solvability of linear non-homogeneous differential equation of higher even order. There is proved the theorem on necessary and sufficient conditions on existence of solutions to the equation in the Schwartz space.
This paper provides necessary as well as sufficient conditions on the Hurst parameters so that the continuous time parabolic Anderson model $\frac{\partial u}{\partial t}=\frac{1}{2}\frac{\partial^2 u}{\partial x^2}+u\dot{W}$ on $[0, \infty)\times {\bf R}^d $ with $d\geq 1$ has a unique random field solution, where $W(t, x)$ is a fractional Brownian sheet on $[0, \infty)\times {\bf R}^d$ and formally $\dot W =\frac{\partial^{d+1}}{\partial t \partial x_1 \cdots \partial x_d} W(t, x)$. When the noise $W(t, x)$ is white in time, our condition is both necessary and sufficient when the initial dat…
We study the $L^p$ Dirichlet problem for the Stokes system on Lipschitz domains. For any fixed $p>2$, we show that a reverse Hölder condition with exponent $p$ is sufficient for the solvability of the Dirichlet problem with boundary data in $L^p_N(\partialΩ,\rn{d})$. Then we obtain a much simpler condition which implies the reverse Hölder condition. Finally, we establish the solvability ofthe $L^p$ Dirichlet problem for $d\geq 4$ and $2-\varepsilon<p<\frac{2(d-1)}{d-3}+\varepsilon$.
We present sufficient conditions to have global hypoellipticity for a class of Vekua-type operators defined on a compact Lie group. When the group has the property that every non-trivial representation is not self-dual we show that these sufficient conditions are also necessary. We also present results about the global solvability for this class of operators.
Motivated by the study of non abelian Chern Simons vortices of non topological type in Gauge Field Theory, we analyse the solvability of planar Liouville systems of Toda type in presence of singular sources. We identify necessary and sufficient conditions on the "flux" pair which ensure the radial solvability of the system. Since the given system includes the (integrable) 2 X 2 Toda system as a particular case, thus we recover the existence result available in this case. Our method relies on a blow-up analysis, which even in the radial setting, takes new turns compared with the single equation…
We study the existence of solutions in Hilbert space $H$ of the semilinear equation \[ L u+N(u)=h, \] where $L$ is linear self-adjoint, $N$ is a nonlinear operator and $h\in H$. We concentrate on the case when $0$ is a right boundary point of a gap in the spectrum of $L$ and an element of essential spectrum. The sufficient conditions for solvability are based on monotonicity and sign assumptions on operator $N$, and its behaviour on $\ker L$. We illustrate the main theorem by an application to the study of nonlinear stationary Schrödinger equation on $\mathbb{R}^n$.
We obtain necessary conditions and sufficient conditions on the existence of solutions to the Cauchy problem for a fractional semilinear heat equation with an inhomogeneous term. We identify the strongest spatial singularity of the inhomogeneous term for the solvability of the Cauchy problem.
We use the theory of dual of Fréchet-Schwartz (DFS) spaces to establish a sufficient condition for top-degree solvability for the differential complex associated to a hypocomplex locally integrable structure. As an application, we show that the top-degree cohomology of left-invariant hypocomplex structures on a compact Lie group can be computed only by using left-invariant forms, thus reducing the computation to a purely algebraic one. In the case of left-invariant elliptic involutive structures on compact Lie groups, under certain reasonable conditions, we prove that the cohomology associated…
In this paper we prove the existence of complete, noncompact convex hypersurfaces whose $p$-curvature function is prescribed on a domain in the unit sphere. This problem is related to the solvability of Monge-Ampère type equations subject to certain boundary conditions depending on the value of $p$. The special case of $p=1$ was previously studied by Pogorelov and Chou-Wang. Here, we give some sufficient conditions for the solvability for general $p\neq1$.
In this short paper we show a sufficient condition for the solvability of the Dirichlet problem at infinity in Riemannian cones (as defined below). This condition is related to a celebrated result of Milnor that classifies parabolic surfaces. When applied tosmooth Riemannian manifolds with a special type of metrics (which generalise rotational symmetry) we obtain generalisations of classical criteria for the solvability of the Dirichlet problem at infinity. Our proof is short and elementary: it uses separation of variables and comparison arguments for ODE's.
In this paper, based on a proposed notion of generalized conjugate harmonic pairs in the framework of complex Clifford analysis, necessary and sufficient conditions for the solvability of inhomogeneous perturbed generalized Moisil-Teodorescu systems in higher dimensional Euclidean spaces are proved. As an application, we derive corresponding solvability conditions for the inhomogeneous Maxwell's equations.
