Integrating out virtual quantum fluctuations in an originally local quantum field theory results in an effective theory which is non-local. In this Letter we argue that tunneling of the 3rd kind - where particles traverse a barrier by splitting into a pair of virtual particles which recombine only after a finite distance - provides a direct test of this non-locality. We sketch a quantum-optical setup to test this effect, and investigate observable effects in a simple toy model.
One kind of hierarchical wave functions of Fractional Quantum Hall Effect (FQHE) on the torus are constructed. The multi-component nature of anyon wave functions and the degeneracy of FQHE on the torus are very clear reflected in this kind of wave functions. We also calculate the braid statistics of the quasiparticles in FQHE on the torus and show they fit to the picture of anyons interacting with magnetic field on the torus obtained from braid group analysis.

We introduce functional degrees of freedom by a new gauge principle related to the phase of the wave functional. Thus, quantum mechanical systems are dissipatively embedded into a nonlinear classical dynamical structure. There is a necessary fundamental length, besides an entropy/area parameter, and standard couplings. For states that are sufficiently spread over configuration space, quantum field theory is recovered.

We study the statistical mechanics of the self-gravitating gas at thermal equilibrium with two kinds of particles. We start from the partition function in the canonical ensemble which we express as a functional integral over the densities of the two kinds of particles for a large number of particles. The system is shown to possess an infinite volume limit when (N_1,N_2,V)->infty, keeping N_1/V^{1/3} and N_2/V^{1/3} fixed. I describe a project to open a new territory of quantum field theory where the fields live not on a space-time manifold but on certain complete metric spaces of (n-1)-dimensional objects (defects) in a 2n-dimensional space-time M. These metric spaces are "quasi Riemann surfaces"; they are formally analogous to Riemann surfaces. Every construction of a 2d conformal field theory is to give an analogous construction of a cft on the quasi Riemann surfaces, and thereby a cft on M. Effective quantum field theories that allow for the possibility of Lorentz symmetry violation can sometimes also include redundancies of description in their Lagrangians. Explicit calculations in a Lorentz-violating generalization of Yukawa theory show that when this kind of redundancy exists, different renormalization schemes may lead to different expressions for the renormalization group $β$-functions, even at only one-loop order. However, the renormalization group scaling of physically observable quantities appears not to share this kind of scheme dependence.

This manuscript was published as a JINR Preprint E17-10550 in 1977. In view of the recent interest in various new kinds of statistics it seems the results it contains may be still of some interest. It is shown that the second quantization axioms can, in principle, be satisfied with creation and annihilation operators generating (in the case of $n$ pairs of such operators) the Lie algebra $A_n$ of the group $SL(n+1)$. A concept of a Fock space is introduced. The matrix elements of these operators are found.
Generalized quantum statistics will be presented in the context of representation theory of Lie (super)algebras. A periodic change of slow environmental parameters of a quantum system induces quantum holonomy. The phase holonomy is a well-known example. Another is a more exotic kind that exhibits eigenvalue and eigenspace holonomies. We introduce a theoretical formulation that describes the phase and eigenspace holonomies on an equal footing. Semi-classical states in homogeneous loop quantum cosmology (LQC) are constructed by two different ways. In the first approach, we firstly construct an exponentiated annihilation operator. Then a kind of semi-classical (coherent) state is obtained by solving the eigen-equation of that operator. Moreover, we use these coherent states to analyze the semi-classical limit of the quantum dynamics.
