We compare the accuracy of two cluster extensions of Dynamical Mean-Field Theory in describing d-wave superconductors, using as a reference model a saddle-point t-J model which can be solved exactly in the thermodynamic limit and at the same time reasonably describes the properties of high-temperature superconductors. The two methods are Cellular Dynamical Mean-Field Theory, which is based on a real-space perspective, and Dynamical Cluster Approximation, which enforces a momentum-space picture by imposing periodic boundary conditions on the cluster, as opposed to the open boundary conditions of the first method. We consider the scaling of the methods for large cluster size, but we also focus on the behavior for small clusters, such as those accessible by means of present techniques, with particular emphasis on the geometrical structure, which is definitely a relevant issue in small clusters.
Motivated by the experimental progress in controlling the properties of the energy bands in superconductors, significant theoretical efforts have been devoted to study the effect of the quantum geometry and the flatness of the dispersion on the superfluid weight. In conventional superconductors, where the energy bands are wide and the Fermi energy is large, the contribution due to the quantum geometry is negligible, but in the opposite limit of flat-band superconductors the superfluid weight originates purely from the quantum geometry of Bloch wave functions. Here, we study how the energy band…
Two-Dimensional Geometry of Spin Excitations in the High Temperature Superconductor YBa2Cu3O6+x

We derive the dynamical magnetic response functions in the Fulde-Ferrell (FF) state of a superconductor with inversion symmetry. The pair momentum 2q is obtained by minimization of the condensation energy and the resulting quasiparticle states and spectral functions exhibit the segmentation into paired and unpaired regions due to the finite q. The dynamical magnetic susceptibility is then calculated in linear response formalism in the FF state with finite-q condensate resulting from s-wave or d-wave pairing. We show that quasiparticle excitations inside as well as between paired and unpaired s…
We investigate the proximity effect in a heterostructure of the topological insulator (TI) \BiSe\ deposited on the HTSC material BSCCO. The latter is described by the one-band Hubbard model and is treated with cluster dynamical mean field theory (CDMFT), the TI layers being included via the CDMFT self-consistency loop. The penetration of superconductivity into the TI depends on the position of the Fermi level with respect to the TI gap. We illustrate the back action of the TI layer on the HTSC layer, in particular the gradual disappearance of Mott physics with increasing tunneling amplitude.
Thermodynamic and dynamical properties of a model of Dirac fermions with a deconfined quantum critical point (DQCP) separating an interaction-generated quantum spin-Hall insulator from an s-wave superconductor [Nature Comm.~{\bf 10}, 2658 (2019)] are studied by quantum Monte Carlo simulations. Inside the deconfined quantum critical region bound by the single-particle gap, spinons and spinless charge-2e skyrmions emerge. Since the model conserves total spin and charge, and has a single length scale, these excitations lead to a characteristic linear temperature dependence of the uniform spin and…
To fathom the mechanism of high-temperature ($T_{\rm c}$) superconductivity, the dynamical vertex approximation (D$Γ$A) is evoked for the two-dimensional repulsive Hubbard model. After showing that our results well reproduce the cuprate phase diagram with a reasonable $T_{\rm c}$ and dome structure, we keep track of the scattering processes that primarily affect $T_{\rm c}$. We find that local particle-particle diagrams significantly screen the bare interaction at low frequencies, which in turn suppresses antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations and hence the pairing interaction. Thus we identify d…
It has been proposed that the superconducting transition temperature $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ of an unconventional superconductor with a large pairing scale but strong phase fluctuations can be enhanced by coupling it to a metal. However, the general efficacy of this approach across different parameter regimes remains an open question. Using the dynamical cluster approximation, we study this question in a system composed of an attractive Hubbard layer in the intermediate coupling regime, where the magnitude of the attractive Coulomb interaction $|U|$ is slightly larger than the bandwidth $W$, hybridiz…
The noncentrosymmetric NbReSi superconductor with $T_{c} \simeq 6.5$ K is characterized by the relatively large upper critical magnetic field. Its multigap features were observed experimentally. Recent studies suggested realization of P$\bar{6}$2m or Ima2 symmetry. We discuss the dynamical properties of both symmetries (e.g., phonon spectra). In this paper, using the ab initio techniques, we clarify this ambiguity, and conclude that the Ima2 symmetry is unstable, and P$\bar{6}$2m should be realized. The P$\bar{6}$2m symmetry is also stable in the presence of external hydrostatic pressure. We s…
In a flat band superconductor, the charge carriers' group velocity vF is extremely slow, quenching their kinetic energy. The emergence of superconductivity thus appears paradoxical, as conventional BCS theory implies a vanishing coherence length, superfluid stiffness, and critical current. Here, using twisted bilayer graphene (tBLG), we explore the profound effect of vanishingly small vF in a Dirac superconducting flat band system Using Schwinger-limited non-linear transport studies, we demonstrate an extremely slow vF ~ 1000 m/s for filling fraction nu between -1/2 and -3/4 of the moire super…
We review the electronic structure of nickelate superconductors with and without effects of electronic correlations. As a minimal model we identify the one-band Hubbard model for the Ni 3$d_{x^2-y^2}$ orbital plus a pocket around the $A$-momentum. The latter however merely acts as a decoupled electron reservoir. This reservoir makes a careful translation from {nominal} Sr-doping to the doping of the one-band Hubbard model mandatory. Our dynamical mean-field theory calculations, in part already supported by experiment, indicate that the $Γ$ pocket, Nd 4$f$ orbitals, oxygen 2$p$ and {the} other …
Microwave conductivity experiments can directly measure the quasiparticle scattering rate in the superconducting state. We show that this, combined with knowledge of the Fermi surface geometry, allows one to distinguish between closely related superconducting order parameters, e.g., d$_{x^2-y^2}$ and d$_{xy}$ superconductivity. We benchmark this method on YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-δ}$ and, unsurprisingly, confirm that this is a d$_{x^2-y^2}$ superconductor. We then apply our method to $κ$-(BEDT-TTF)$_2$Cu[N(CN)$_2$]Br, which we discover is a d$_{xy}$ superconductor.
We study the Loschmidt echo for quenches in open one-dimensional lattice models with symmetry protected topological phases. For quenches where dynamical quantum phase transitions do occur we find that cusps in the bulk return rate at critical times tc are associated with sudden changes in the boundary contribution. For our main example, the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model, we show that these sudden changes are related to the periodical appearance of two eigenvalues close to zero in the dynamical Loschmidt matrix. We demonstrate, furthermore, that the structure of the Loschmidt spectrum is linked to…
