We test the hypothesis that diffractive scattering in the perturbative and non-perturbative domain is determined by the exchange of a single pomeron with a scale dependent trajectory. Present data on diffractive vector meson production are well compatible with this model and recent results for $J/ψ$ photoproduction at LHC strongly support it. The model is inspired by concepts of gauge/string duality applied to the pomeron.
We compute the proton-proton multiplicity distributions at LHC energies in the framework of a multiple scattering model assuming a Poisson distribution for each inelastic collision. Multiple scattering is essential to broaden the multiplicity distribution. We obtain approximate KNO scaling for small pseudo-rapidity intervals ($|η| < 0.5$) and sizable KNO scaling violations for larger ones, in agreement with experiment.
It is demonstrated that the hard pomeron intercept value can be estimated directly from the data on the proton unpolarized structure function: $α_{\rm P}^h(0)-1=0.317\pm 0.028$.
We apply the principle of maximum conformality (PMC) to the Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov (BFKL) Pomeron intercept at the next-to-leading logarithmic (NLL) accuracy. The PMC eliminates the conventional renormalization scale ambiguity by absorbing the non-conformal $\{β_i\}$-terms into the running coupling, and a more accurate pQCD estimation can be obtained. After PMC scale setting, the QCD perturbative convergence can be greatly improved due to the elimination of renormalon terms in pQCD series, and the BFKL Pomeron intercept has a weak dependence on the virtuality of the reggeized gluon. For…
We show that it is possible to describe the effective Pomeron intercept using NLO BFKL evolution together with collinear improvements. In order to obtain a good description over the whole range of Q^2 we use a non-Abelian physical renormalization scheme with BLM optimal scale, combined with a parametrization of the running coupling in the infrared region.
We show that it is possible to describe the effective Pomeron intercept, determined from the HERA Deep Inelastic Scattering data at small values of Bjorken x, using next-to-leading order BFKL evolution together with collinear improvements. To obtain a good description over the whole range of Q^2 we use a non-Abelian physical renormalization scheme with BLM optimal scale, combined with a parametrization of the running coupling in the infrared region.
We revisit the description of the Pomeron within the effective string theory of QCD. Using a string duality relation, we show how the static potential maps onto the high-energy scattering amplitude that exhibits the Pomeron behavior. Besides the Pomeron intercept and slope, new additional terms stemming from the higher order string corrections are shown to affect both the growth of the nucleon's size at high energies and its profile in impact parameter space. The stringy description also allows for an odderon that only disappears in critical dimension. Some of the Pomeron's features that emerg…
We develop a formalism where the hard and soft pomeron contributions to high energy scattering arise as leading Regge poles of a single kernel in holographic QCD. The kernel is obtained using effective field theory inspired by Regge theory of a 5-d string theory. It describes the exchange of higher spin fields in the graviton Regge trajectory that are dual to glueball states of twist two. For a specific holographic QCD model we describe Deep Inelastic Scattering in the Regge limit of low Bjorken x, finding good agreement with experimental data from HERA. The observed rise of the effective pome…
We study the graviton Regge trajectory in Holographic QCD as a model for high energy scattering processes dominated by soft pomeron exchange. This is done by considering spin J fields from the closed string sector that are dual to glueball states of even spin and parity. In particular, we construct a model that governs the analytic continuation of the spin J field equation to the region of real J < 2, which includes the scattering domain of negative Maldelstam variable t. The model leads to approximately linear Regge trajectories and is compatible with the measured values of 1.08 for the inter…
