We study the separability of permutationally symmetric quantum states. We show that for bipartite symmetric systems most of the relevant entanglement criteria coincide. However, we provide a method to generate examples of bound entangled states in symmetric systems, for the bipartite and the multipartite case. These states shed some new light on the nature of bound entanglement.
We develop a framework that provides a straightforward approach to fully exploit the permutational symmetry of identical multi-level systems. By taking into account the permutational symmetry, we outline a simple scheme that allows to map the dynamics of $N$ identical $d$-level systems to the dynamics of $d$ bosonic modes with $N$ particles, achieving an exponential reduction on the dimensionality of the problem in a simple and straightforward way. In particular, we consider the Lindblad dynamics of several identical multi-level systems interacting with a common subsystem under the action of c…
The quantification of quantum entanglement is a central issue in quantum information theory. Recently, Gao \emph{et al}. ( \href{http://dx.doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevLett.112.180501}{Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{112}, 180501 (2014)}) pointed out that the maximum of entanglement measure of the permutational invariant part of $ρ$ ought to be a lower bound on entanglement measure of the original state $ρ$, and proposed that this argument can be used as an additional requirement for (multipartite) entanglement measures. Whether any individual proposed entanglement measure satisfies the requirement still h…
We study the all-to-all connected $XYZ$ (anisotropic-Heisenberg) spin model with local and collective dissipations, comparing the results of mean field theory with the solution of the Lindblad quantum evolution. Leveraging the permutational symmetry of the model [N. Shammah et al., Phys Rev. A 98, 063815 (2018)], we find exactly (up to numerical precision) the steady state up to $N=95$ spins. We characterize criticality, studying, as a function of the number of spins $N$, the spin structure factor, the magnetization, the Liouvillian gap and the Von Neumann entropy of the steady state. Exploiti…

For multipartite states we consider a notion of D-symmetry. For a system of $N$ qubits it concides with usual permutational symmetry. In case of $N$ qudits ($d\geq 3$) the D-symmetry is stronger than the permutational one. For the space of all D-symmetric vectors in $(\mathbb{C}^d)^{\otimes N}$ we define a basis composed of vectors $\{|R_{N,d;k}\rangle: \,0\leq k\leq N(d-1)\}$ which are analog for Dicke states. The aim of this paper is to discuss the problem of separability of D-symmetric states which are diagonal in the basis $\{|R_{N,d;k}\rangle\}$. We show that if $N$ is even and $d\geq 2$ …
Spin squeezing inequalities (SSI) represent a major tool to probe quantum entanglement among a collection of few-level atoms, and are based on collective spin measurements and their fluctuations. Yet, for atomic ensembles of spin-$j$ atoms and ultracold spinor gases, many experiments can image the populations in all Zeeman sublevels $s=-j, -j+1, \dots, j$, potentially revealing finer features of quantum entanglement not captured by SSI. Here we present a systematic approach which exploits Zeeman-sublevel population measurements in order to construct novel entanglement criteria, and illustrate …
In a recent work [A. Aloy et al. arXiv:1807:06027 (2018)] we have considered the characterization of entanglement depth, from a device-independent perspective, in a quantum many-body system. We have shown that the inequalities introduced in [J. Tura et al. Science 344 1256 (2014)] can be used to obtain device-independent witnesses of entanglement depth and that they enjoy two key properties that allow to compute their $k$-producibility bounds more efficiently for larger system sizes, as well as yielding experimentally-friendlier device-independent witnesses of entanglement depth: they involve …

We study the significance of Photon/Phonons bunching and antibunching on the dynamics of the quantum entanglement in the presence of coupled PT-symmetry systems with balanced/unbalanced gain and loss. We suggest a hybrid electromechanical system to realize a strong and tunable coupling between a Coplanar-Waveguide (CPW) microwave cavity and a nanomechanical resonator (NAMR) via a superconducting Transmon qubit. The hybrid electromechanical system consists of a non-hermitian Hamiltonian with balanced/unbalanced gain and loss. The interplay between the quantum entanglement and the -symmetry syst…
In this thesis there are two topics: On the entangling capacity, in terms of negativity, of quantum operations, and on the supremum of negativity for symmetric Gaussian states. Positive partial transposition (PPT) states are an important class of states in quantum information. We show a method to calculate bounds for entangling capacity, the amount of entanglement that can be produced by a quantum operation, in terms of negativity, a measure of entanglement. The bounds of entangling capacity are found to be associated with how non-PPT (PPT preserving) an operation is. A length that quantifies …
We consider a model of quantum computation using qubits where it is possible to measure whether a given pair are in a singlet (total spin $0$) or triplet (total spin $1$) state. The physical motivation is that we can do these measurements in a way that is protected against revealing other information so long as all terms in the Hamiltonian are $SU(2)$-invariant. We conjecture that this model is equivalent to BQP. Towards this goal, we show: (1) this model is capable of universal quantum computation with polylogarithmic overhead if it is supplemented by single qubit $X$ and $Z$ gates. (2) Witho…
Symmetry-resolved entanglement is a useful tool for characterizing symmetry-protected topological states. In two dimensions, their entanglement spectra are described by conformal field theories but the symmetry resolution is largely unexplored. However, addressing this problem numerically requires system sizes beyond the reach of exact diagonalization. Here, we develop tensor network methods that can access much larger systems and determine universal and nonuniversal features in their entanglement. Specifically, we construct one-dimensional matrix product operators that encapsulate all the ent…
Symmetry protected topological phases (SPTs) have universal degeneracies in the entanglement spectrum in one dimension (1D). Here, we formulate this phenomenon in the framework of symmetry-resolved entanglement (SRE) using cohomology theory. We develop a general approach to compute entanglement measures of SPTs in any dimension and specifically SRE via a discrete path integral on multi-sheet Riemann surfaces with generalized defects. The resulting path integral is expressed in terms of group cocycles describing the topological actions of SPTs. Their cohomology classification allows to identify…
Symmetry is an important property of quantum mechanical systems which may dramatically influence their behavior in and out of equilibrium. In this paper, we study the effect of symmetry on tripartite entanglement properties of typical states in symmetric sectors of Hilbert space. In particular, we consider Abelian symmetries and derive an explicit expression for the logarithmic entanglement negativity of systems with $\mathbb{Z}_N$ and $U(1)$ symmetry groups. To this end, we develop a diagrammatic method to incorporate partial transpose within the random matrix theory of symmetric states and f…
Entanglement properties are routinely used to characterize phases of quantum matter in theoretical computations. For example the spectrum of the reduced density matrix, or so-called "entanglement spectrum", has become a widely used diagnostic for universal topological properties of quantum phases. However, while being convenient to calculate theoretically, it is notoriously hard to measure in experiments. Here we use the IBM quantum computer to make the first ever measurement of the entanglement spectrum of a symmetry-protected topological state. We are able to distinguish its entanglement spe…
When a quantum pure state is drawn uniformly at random from a Hilbert space, the state is typically highly entangled. This property of a random state is known as generic entanglement of quantum states and has been long investigated from many perspectives, ranging from the black hole science to quantum information science. In this paper, we address the question of how symmetry of quantum states changes the properties of generic entanglement. More specifically, we study bipartite entanglement entropy of a quantum state that is drawn uniformly at random from an invariant subspace of a given symme…
