We analyze the developing of bipartite and multipartite entanglement through the Mott-Insulator - Superfluid quantum phase transition. Starting from a Mott insulator state, where a filling factor $ν= N/M = 1$ per lattice site is considered, we derive an exact expression for a completely connected graph configuration of bosons and show how bipartite and multipartite entanglement signals the phase transition predicted in previous works. Moreover, through the transition bipartite entanglement shows to be monogamous.
The features of superfluid-Mott insulator phase transition in the array of dissipative cavities is analyzed. Employing a kind of quasi-boson and a mean-filed approach, we show analytically how dissipation and decoherence influence the critical behaviors and the time evolution of the system. We find that there is a localized tendency, which could lead to the break of superfluidity for a superfluid state and suppress the appearance of the long-range order form a Mott state. Eventually, a collection of mixture states localized on each site will arise.
We have studied the Jaynes-Cummings-Hubbard model for a chain with the Kerr effect (nonlinear optical effect) through fermionic approximation. We have observed that the Kerr effec does not cause major changes in the energy spectrum. However, the phase transition properties from Mott insulator to superfluid undergoes significant changes due to the Kerr effect.
We investigate theoretically the ground-state property of a two-dimensional array of superconducting circuits including the on-site superconducting qubits (SQs) with weak anharmonicity. In particular, we analyse the influence of this anharmonicity on the Mott insulator to superfluid quantum phase transition. Atomic or molecular bosons in harmonically confined optical lattices exhibit a wedding cake structure consisting of insulating (Mott) shells. It is shown that superfluid regions emerge between Mott shells as a result of fluctuations due to finite hopping. It is found that the order parameter equation in the superfluid region is not of the Gross-Pitaeviskii type except near the insulator to superfluid boundaries. We investigate the groundstate behaviour of Jaynes-Cummings-Hubbard lattices in the presence of a synthetic magnetic field, via a Gutzwiller ansatz. Specifically, we study the Mott-Superfluid transition, and the formation of vortex lattices in the superfluid regime. We find a suppression of the superfluid fraction due to the frustration induced by the incommensurate magnetic and spacial lattice lengths. We also predict the formation of regime.
In this paper we construct a new type of cavity array, in each cavity of which multiple two-level atoms interact with two independent photon modes. This system can be totally governed by a two-mode Dicke-lattice model, which includes all of the counter-rotating terms and therefore works well in the ultrastrong coupling regime achieved in recent experiments. We propose the superfluid to Mott-insulator quantum phase transition in an array of exciton-polariton traps can be utilized for massive parallel generation of indistinguishable single photons. By means of analytical and numerical methods, the device operations and system properties are studied using realistic experimental parameters. Such a deterministic, fault-tolerant, massive parallel generation may open up a new perspective in photonic quantum information processing.
We study the dynamics of the many-body state of ultracold bosons trapped in a bistable optical lattice in an optomechanical resonator controlled by a time-dependent input field. We focus on the dynamics of the many-body system following discontinuous jumps of the intracavity field. We identify experimentally realizable parameters for the bistable quantum phase transition between Mott insulator and superfluid.
We study the many-body state of ultracold bosons in a bistable optical lattice potential in an optomechanical resonator in the weak-coupling limit. New physics arises as a result of bistability and discontinuous jumps in the cavity field. We discuss quantum fluctuations of the interface between a superfluid and a Mott-insulating state of ultracold atoms in a trap. The fluctuations of the boundary are due to a new type of surface modes, whose spectrum is similar (but not identical) to classical capillary waves. The corresponding quantum capillary length sets the scale for the penetration of the superfluid into the Mott-insulating regime by the proximity effect and may be on the order of several lattice spacings. We study the quench from the Mott to the superfluid phase in the Bose-Hubbard model and investigate the spatial-temporal growth of phase coherence, i.e., phase locking between initially uncorrelated sites. To this end, we establish a hierarchy of correlations via a controlled expansion into inverse powers of the coordination number $1/Z$. It turns out that the off-diagonal long-range order spreads with a constant propagation speed, forming local condensate patches, whereas the phase correlator follows a diffusion-like growth rate.
An ultracold gas of coupled two-component atoms in an optical field is studied. Due to the internal two-level structure of the atoms, three competing energy terms exist; atomic kinetic, atomic internal, and atom-atom interaction energies. Dark solitons of ultracold bosons in the vicinity of the Mott-insulator--superfluid phase transition are studied. Making use of the Gutzwiller ansatz we have found antisymmetric eigenstates corresponding to standing solitons, as well as propagating solitons created by phase imprinting. Near the phase boundary, superfluidity has either a particle or a hole character depending on the system parameters, which greatly affects the characteristics of both types of solitons. In this paper, we studied a generalized Bose-Hubbard model on a checkerboard lattice with topologically nontrivial flat-band. We used mean-field method to decouple the model Hamiltonian and obtained phase diagram by Landau theory of second-order phase transition. We further calculate the energy gap and the dispersion of quasi-particle or quasi-hole in Mott insulator state and found that in strong interaction limit the quasi-particles or the quasi-holes also have flat bands.
We demonstrate many-body multifractality of the Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian's ground state in Fock space, for arbitrary values of the interparticle interaction. We consider a boundary between a Mott insulator and a superfluid region of a Bose-Hubbard model at unit filling. Initially both regions are decoupled and cooled to their respective ground states. We show that, after switching on a small tunneling rate between both regions, all particles of the Mott region migrate to the superfluid area. This migration takes place whenever the difference between the chemical potentials of both regions is less than the maximal energy of any eigenmode of the superfluid. We study the dynamics of phase transitions in the one dimensional Bose-Hubbard model. To drive the system from Mott insulator to superfluid phase, we change the tunneling frequency at a finite rate. We investigate the build up of correlations during fast and slow transitions using variational wave functions, dynamical Bogoliubov theory, Kibble-Zurek mechanism, and numerical simulations. We show that time-dependent correlations satisfy characteristic scaling relations that can be measured in optical lattices filled with cold atoms.

We develop a Gutzwiller theory for the non-equilibrium steady states of a strongly-interacting photon fluid driven by a non-Markovian incoherent pump. The Mott insulating phase of a one-dimensional bosonic gas trapped in optical lattices is described by a Bose-Hubbard model. A continuous unitary transformation is used to map this model onto an effective model conserving the number of elementary excitations. We obtain quantitative results for the kinetics and for the spectral weights of the low-energy excitations for a broad range of parameters in the insulating phase. By these results, recent Bragg spectroscopy experiments are explained. Evidence for a significant temperature of the order of the microscopic energy scales is found.

In order to study the interplay between localized and dispersive orbital states in a system of ultracold atoms in an optical lattice, we investigate the possibility to coherently couple the lowest two Bloch bands by means of resonant periodic forcing. In the simplest case of full SU(3) symmetry, one obtains a ferromagnetic Heisenberg model. Introducing an SU(3) analog of spin-orbit coupling, additional spin-spin interactions are generated. We demonstrate a single-site and single-atom-resolved fluorescence imaging of a bosonic Mott insulator of $^7$Li atoms in an optical lattice. The fluorescence images are obtained by implementing Raman sideband cooling on a deep two-dimensional square lattice, where we collect scattered photons with a high numerical aperture objective lens. We show that interactions can lead to anomalous quasi-particle dynamics even when the spin-orbit coupling is abelian. We present an exactly-solvable $p$-wave pairing model for two bosonic species. The model is solvable in any spatial dimension and shares some commonalities with the $p + ip$ Richardson-Gaudin fermionic model, such as a third order quantum phase transition. However, contrary to the fermionic case, in the bosonic model the transition separates a gapless fragmented singlet pair condensate from a pair Bose superfluid, and the exact eigenstate at the quantum critical point is a pair condensate analogous to the fermionic Moore-Read state.
