Genus-One Stable Maps, Local Equations, and Vakil-Zinger's desingularization

We describe an algebro-geometric approach to Vakil-Zinger's desingularization of the main component of the moduli of genus one stable maps to projective space. The new approach provides complete local structural results for this moduli space as well as for the desingularization of the entire moduli space and should fully extend to higher genera.

Comparison of two desingularization of the Kontsevich's moduli space of elliptic stable maps

It is known that the main component of the Kontsevich's moduli space of elliptic stable maps is singular. There are two different desingularizations. One is Vakil-Zinger's desingularization and the other is the moduli space of logarithmic stable maps. When the degree is less then or equal to 3 and the target is $\mathbb{P}^{n}$, we show that the moduli space of logarithmic stable maps can be obtained by blowing up Vakil-Zinger's desingularization.

Reduced invariants from cuspidal maps

We consider genus 1 enumerative invariants arising from the Smyth-Viscardi moduli space of stable maps from curves with nodes and cusps. We prove that these invariants are equal to the Vakil-Zinger reduced invariants for the quintic threefold, providing a modular interpretation of the latter.

Moduli of elliptic curves in products of projective spaces

We exhibit a smooth compactification of the moduli space of elliptic curves in a product of projective spaces with tangency along a subset of its toric boundary divisors. This is a Vakil--Zinger type of desingularization for maps to a product of projective spaces using ideas of elliptic singularities and logarithmic geometry, extending the recent work by Ranganathan--Santos-Parker--Wise. We use this to construct the virtual fundamental classes of the spaces of genus 1 maps to a special class of simple normal crossings pairs.

Moduli of Curves of Genus One with Twisted Fields

We construct a smooth Artin stack parameterizing the stable weighted curves of genus one with twisted fields and prove that it is isomorphic to the blowup stack of the moduli of genus one weighted curves studied by Hu and Li. This leads to a blowup-free construction of Vakil-Zinger's desingularization of the moduli of genus one stable maps to projective spaces. This construction provides the cornerstone of the theory of stacks with twisted fields, which is thoroughly studied in arXiv:2005.03384 and leads to a blowup-free resolution of the stable map moduli of genus two.

Algebraic reduced genus one Gromov-Witten invariants for complete intersections in projective spaces

This is the first in a pair of papers developing a framework for the application of logarithmic structures in the study of singular curves of genus $1$. We construct a smooth and proper moduli space dominating the main component of Kontsevich's space of stable genus $1$ maps to projective space.
