A KK-theoretic perspective of quantization commutes with reduction

In 1979, M. Kashiwara and M. Vergne formulated a conjecture on a Lie group G which implies that the Duflo isomorphism of Z(g) and S(g)^g extends to a natural module isomorphism between the spaces of germs of invariant distributions on G and g=Lie(G), respectively. They also proved their conjecture for G solvable. Using Kontsevich's deformation quantization we establish directly this result for distributions on any real Lie group G. In turn this gives a new proof of Duflo's result on the local solvability of bi-invariant differential operators on G.
We study Kontsevich's deformation quantization for the dual of a finite-dimensional real Lie algebra (or superalgebra) g. In this case the Kontsevich star-product defines a new convolution on S(g), regarded as the space of distributions supported at 0 in g. We give a formulation of a deformation of Dirac operator along orbits of a group action on a possibly non-compact manifold to get an equivariant index and a K-homology cycle representing the index. We apply this framework to non-compact Hamiltonian torus manifolds to define geometric quantization from the view point of index theory. We give two applications. The first one is a proof of a [Q,R]=0 type theorem, which can be regarded as a proof of the Vergne conjecture for Abelian case. Let $G$ be a compact connected Lie group acting on a stable complex manifold $M$ with equivariant vector bundle $E$. Besides, suppose $ϕ$ is an equivariant map from $M$ to the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. We can define some equivalence relation on the triples $(M, E, ϕ)$ such that the set of equivalence classes form an abelian group. In this paper, we will show that this group is isomorphic to a completion of character ring $R(G)$. In this framework, we provide a geometric proof to the "Quantization Commutes with Reduction" conjecture in the non-compact setting.
We first introduce an invariant index for G-equivariant elliptic differential operators on a locally compact manifold M admitting a proper cocompact action of a locally compact group G. It generalizes the Kawasaki index for orbifolds to the case of proper cocompact actions. Our invariant index is used to show that an analog of the Guillemin-Sternberg geometric quantization conjecture holds if M is symplectic with a Hamiltonian action of G that is proper and cocompact. This essentially solves a conjecture of Hochs and Landsman.

We study two quantization schemes for compact symplectic manifolds with almost complex structures. The first of these is the Spin-c quantization. We prove the analog of Kodaira vanishing for the Spin-c Dirac operator, which shows that the index space of this operator provides an honest (not virtual) vector space semiclassically. We also introduce a new quantization scheme, based on a rescaled Laplacian, for which we are able to prove strong semiclassical properties. The two quantizations are shown to be close semiclassically.
