We solve the Faddeev equations for the two meson-one baryon system $ππN$ and coupled channels using the experimental two-body $t$-matrices for the $πN$ interaction as input and unitary chiral dynamics to describe the interaction between the rest of coupled channels. In addition to the $N^*(1710)$ obtained before with the $ππN$ channel, we obtain, for $J^π=1/2^+$ and total isospin of the three-body system $I=1/2$, a resonance peak whose mass is around 2080 MeV and width of 54 MeV, while for $I=3/2$ we find a peak around 2126 MeV and 42 MeV of width. These two resonances can be identified with the $N^* (2100)$ and the $Δ(1910)$, respectively. We obtain another peak in the isospin 1/2 configuration, around 1920 MeV which can be interpreted as a resonance in the $N a_0(980)$ and $N f_0(980)$ systems.
A relativistic Faddeev model for the baryon octet is extended to treat the baryon decuplet. We find that after determining the model parameters in the mesonic sector the masses of both nucleon and delta deviate by less than 5\% from the experimental data and show only a very weak dependence on the constituent quark mass.
Quark-model hyperon-nucleon and hyperon-hyperon interactions by the Kyoto-Niigata group are applied to the two-Lambda plus alpha system in a new three-cluster Faddeev formalism using two-cluster resonating-group method kernels. The model fss2 gives a reasonable two-Lambda separation energy Delta B_{Lambda Lambda}=1.41 MeV, which is consistent with the recent empirical value, Delta B^{exp}_{Lambda Lambda}=1.01 +/- 0.20 MeV, deduced from the Nagara event. Some important effects that are not taken into account in the present calculation are discussed.
Configuration space Faddeev equations are applied to describe the Be9Lambda low-lying resonances of the ground band in the alpha+alpha+Lambda cluster model. The method of analytical continuation in coupling constant is used.
By solving the Faddeev equations we calculate the mass of the strange baryons in the framework of a relativistic constituent quark model. The Goldstone-boson-exchange quark-quark interaction is derived from $SU(3)_F$ symmetry, which is explicitly broken as the strange quark is much heavier. This broken symmetry can nicely be accounted for in the Faddeev framework.
Algorithm, based on explicit representations for analytic continuation of the T-matrix Faddeev components on unphysical sheets, is worked out for calculations of resonances in the three-body quantum problem. According to the representations, poles of T-matrix, scattering matrix and Green function on unphysical sheets, interpreted as resonances, coincide with those complex energy values where appropriate truncations of the scattering matrix have zero as eigenvalue. Scattering amplitudes on the physical sheet, necessary to construct scattering matrix, are calculated on the basis of the Faddeev d…
We implement complex scaling of Faddeev equations using hyper-spheric coordinates and adiabatic expansion. Complex scaling of coordinates allows convenient calculations of three-body resonances. We derive the necessary equations and investigate the adiabatic spectrum at large distances. We illustrate the viability of the implementation by calculations of several three-body resonances: a $0^+$ resonance in a model benchmark system of three identical bosons; the $2^+$ resonance in the $^6$He nucleus within the $α+n+n$ model; and the two $0^+$ resonances in $^{12}$C within the three-$α$ model.

According to the representations, poles of the T--matrix, scattering matrix and resolvent on unphysical sheets, interpreted as resonances, coincide with those complex energy values where appropriate truncations of the scattering matrix have zero as eigenvalue. The Faddeev equations for the $ΞNN$ bound-state problem are solved where the three $S$=$-2$ baryon-baryon interactions of Jülich-Bonn-München chiral EFT, HAL QCD and Nijmegen ESC08c are used. The $T$-matrix $T_{ΞN, ΞN}$ obtained within the original $ΛΛ$-$ΞN$-$ΣΣ$ $/$ $ΞN$-$ΛΣ$-$ΣΣ$ coupled-channel framework is employed as an input to the equations. We found no bound state for Jülich-Bonn-München chiral EFT and HAL QCD but ESC08c generates a bound state with the total isospin and spin-parity $(T,J^π)=(1/2, 3/2^+)$ where the decays into $ΛΛN$ are suppressed.
Baryons are treated as three-quark systems using QCD degrees of freedom in Poincare-covariant bound-state equations. The quark self-energy as well as the interaction between quarks are approximated by a vector-vector interaction via a single dressed-gluon exchange (rainbow-ladder truncation), thereby allowing a unified study of quark, meson and baryon properties. Here we will focus on the calculation of electromagnetic properties of spin-1/2 and spin-3/2 ground state baryons.
The hypernuclear systems $NNΞ$ and $ΞΞN$ are considered as an analogue of $nnp$ ($^3$H) nuclear system (with the notation as $AAB$ system). We use the recently proposed modification for the $s$-wave Malfliet-Tjon potential. The modification simulates the Extended-Soft-Core model (ESC08c) for baryon-baryon interactions. The $ΞN$ spin/isospin triplet $(S, I)=(1, 1)$ potential generates a bound state with the energy $B_2(AB)$=1.56~MeV. Three-body binding energy $B_3$ for the states with maximal total isospin is calculated employing the configuration-space Faddeev equations. Comparison with the re…
We propose a method that allows for the efficient solution of the three-body Faddeev equations in the presence of infinitely rising confinement interactions. Such a method is useful in calculations of nonrelativistic and especially semirelativistic constituent quark models. The convergence of the partial wave series is accelerated and possible spurious contributions in the Faddeev components are avoided. We demonstrate how the method works with the example of the Goldstone-boson-exchange chiral quark model for baryons.
A calculation of the masses and electromagnetic properties of the Delta and Omega baryon together with their evolution with the current quark mass is presented. Hereby a generalized Bethe-Salpeter approach with the interaction truncated to a dressed one-gluon exchange is employed. The model dependence is explored by investigating two forms for the dressed gluon exchange.
Using the generalized Pauli principle by adding particle labels to the usual space and spin labels a symmetric Hamiltonian and a corresponding antisymmetric wavefunction is constructed for systems of three baryons in the strangeness sectors $S=-1$ and -2. Applications are the $ΞNN-ΛΛN$ and $NNΛ-NNΣ$ systems. Minimal sets of generalized coupled Faddeev equations for breakup and rearrangement operators as well as (possible) bound states are derived which have the ordinary Pauli principle among identical particles built in. The equations found confirm our previous sets of coupled Faddeev equation…
We carry out Faddeev calculations of three-alpha (3 alpha) and two-alpha plus Lambda (alpha alpha Lambda) systems, using two-cluster resonating-group method kernels. The input includes an effective two-nucleon force for the alpha alpha resonating-group method and a new effective Lambda N force for the Lambda alpha interaction. The latter force is a simple two-range Gaussian potential for each spin-singlet and triplet state, generated from the phase-shift behavior of the quark-model hyperon-nucleon interaction, fss2, by using an inversion method based on supersymmetric quantum mechanics. Owing …
The work is devoted to comparison of two different approaches to calculation of three-body resonances on the basis of the Faddeev differential equations. The first one is the well known complex scaling approach. The second method is based on an immediate calculation of the zeros of the scattering matrix continued to the physical sheet.
The previous Faddeev calculation of the two-alpha plus Lambda system for 9 Lambda Be is extended to incorporate the spin-orbit components of the SU_6 quark-model baryon-baryon interactions. We employ the Born kernel of the quark-model Lambda N LS interaction, and generate the spin-orbit component of the Lambda alpha potential by the alpha-cluster folding. The Faddeev calculation in the jj-coupling scheme implies that the direct use of the quark-model Born kernel for the Lambda N LS component is not good enough to reproduce the small experimental value Delta E^exp_{ls}=43 +- 5 keV for the 5/2^+…
Using separable $NN$ and $ΛN$-$ΣN$ potentials in the Faddeev equations, we have demonstrated that the predicted enhancement in the $Λd$ cross section near the $Σd$ threshold is associated with resonance poles in the scattering amplitude. The positions of these poles, on the second Riemann sheet of the complex energy plane, are determined by examining the eigenvalues of the kernel of the Faddeev equations. This suggests that for a certain class of $ΛN$-$ΣN$ potentials we can form a $Σ$-hypertriton with a width of about 8 MeV.
We propose a novel method for calculating resonances in three-body Coulombic systems. The method is based on the solution of the set of Faddeev and Lippmann-Schwinger integral equations, which are designed for solving the three-body Coulomb problem. The resonances of the three-body system are defined as the complex-energy solutions of the homogeneous Faddeev integral equations. We show how the kernels of the integral equations should be continued analytically in order that we get resonances. As a numerical illustration a toy model for the three-$α$ system is solved.
The halo nucleus $^{11}$Li is treated as a three-body system consisting of an inert core of $^{9}$Li plus two valence neutrons. The Faddeev equations are solved using separable potentials to describe the two-body interactions, corresponding in the n-$^{9}$Li subsystem to a p$_{1/2}$ resonance plus a virtual s-wave state. The experimental $^{11}$Li energy is taken as input and the $^{9}$Li transverse momentum distribution in $^{11}$Li is studied.
New calculations of the quasi-bound state in the $K^- pp$ system using Faddeev-type equations in AGS form with coupled $\bar{K}NN$ and $πΣN$ channels were performed. A chiral $\bar{K}N$ potential together with phenomenological models of $\bar{K}N$ interaction with one- and two-pole structure of the $Λ(1405)$ resonance were used. All three potentials reproduce experimental data on low-energy $K^- p$ scattering and kaonic hydrogen with the same level of accuracy. New method of calculating the subthreshold resonance position and width in a three-body system was proposed and used together with the…
We present the solution of the Poincare-covariant Faddeev equation for the Delta(1232) and Omega(1672) baryons. The covariant structure of the corresponding baryon amplitudes and their decomposition in terms of internal spin and orbital angular momentum is explicitly derived. The interaction kernel is truncated to a rainbow-ladder dressed-gluon exchange such that chiral symmetry and its dynamical breaking are correctly implemented. The resulting physical masses agree reasonably with experiment and their evolution with the pion mass compares favorably with lattice calculations. Evidence for the…
A novel method for calculating resonances in three-body Coulombic systems is presented. The Faddeev-Merkuriev integral equations are solved by applying the Coulomb-Sturmian separable expansion method. To show the power of the method we calculate resonances of the three-$α$ and the $H^-$ systems.
\noindent{\bf Background:} Deuteron-induced nuclear reactions are an essential tool for probing the structure of nuclei as well as astrophysical information such as $(n,γ)$ cross sections. The deuteron-nucleus system is typically described within a Faddeev three-body model consisting of a neutron ($n$), a proton ($p$), and the target nucleus ($A$) interacting through pairwise phenomenological potentials. While Faddeev techniques enable the exact description of the three-body dynamics, their predictive power is limited in part by the omission of irreducible neutron-proton-nucleus three-body for…
A study of 3-body resonances has been performed in the framework of configuration space Faddeev equations. The importance of keeping a sufficient number of terms in the asymptotic expansion of the resonance wave function is pointed out. We investigated three neutrons interacting in selected force components taken from realistic nn forces.
The $K K\bar K$ system is investigated with a coupled channel approach based on solving the Faddeev equations considering the $KK\bar K$, $Kππ$ and $Kπη$ channels and using as input two-body $t$-matrices that generate dynamically the $f_0(980)$ and $a_0(980)$ resonances. In the present calculation, a quasibound state around 1420 MeV with total isospin $I=1/2$ and spin-parity $J^π=0^-$ is found below the three kaon threshold. This state can be identified with the K(1460) resonance listed by the Particle Data Group. We also study the $KK\bar K$ system in a single channel three-body potential mod…
We study ground states and excitations of light octet and decuplet baryons within the framework of Dyson-Schwinger and Faddeev equations. We improve upon similar approaches by explicitly taking into account the momentum-dependent dynamics of the quark-gluon interaction that leads to dynamical chiral symmetry breaking. We perform calculations in both the three-body Faddeev framework and the quark-diquark approximation in order to assess the impact of the latter on the spectrum. Our results indicate that both approaches agree well with each other. The resulting spectra furthermore agree one-to-o…
We report four $Σ$'s and three $Λ$'s, in the 1500 - 1800 MeV region, as two meson - one baryon S-wave $(1/2)^+$ resonances. We solve Faddeev equations in the coupled channel approach. The invariant mass of one of the meson-baryon pairs and that of the three particles have been varied and peaks in the squared three body $T$-matrix have been found very close to the existing $S$ = -1, $J^P= 1/2^+$ low lying baryon resonances. The input two-body $t$-matrices for meson-meson and meson-baryon interaction have been calculated by solving the Bethe-Salpeter equation with the potentials obtained in the …
$\Kbar N$ interactions are investigated {\it via} an effective non-linear chiral meson-baryon Lagrangian. The adjustable parameters are determined by a fitting procedure on the $K^-p$ threshold branching ratios and total cross-section data for $p^{lab}_K\le$ 250 MeV/c. We produce predictions for the $Σπ$ mass spectrum, and scattering lenghts $a_{K^-p}$, $a_n(K^-n \to K^-n)$, $a_n0(\Kbar0 n \to \Kbar0 n)$, and $a_{ex}(K^-p \to \Kbar0 n)$. The $\Kbar N$ amplitudes thus obtained, as well as those for other two-body channels ($πN$, $NN$, and $YN$) are used as input to predict the scattering length…
We present a method to evaluate the $\bar{K}$ absorption width in the bound $\bar{K}NN$ system. Most calculations of this system ignore this channel and only consider the $\bar{K}N \rightarrow πΣ$ conversion. Other works make a qualitative calculation using perturbative methods. Since the $ Λ(1405) $ resonance is playing a role in the process, the same resonance is changed by the presence of the absorption channels and we find that a full nonperturbative calculation is called for, which we present here. We employ the Fixed Center Approximation to Faddeev equations to account for $\bar{K}$ resc…
The resonance energies of strange dibaryons are investigated with the use of the \bar{K}NN-πY N coupled-channels Faddeev equation. It is found that the pole positions of the predicted three-body amplitudes are significantly modified when the three-body coupled-channels dynamics is approximated, as is done in the literature, by the effective two-body \bar{K}N interactions.
As an example of dynamically generated resonances we mention the interaction of vector mesons with baryons within the local hidden gauge formalism which gives rise to a large amount of such states, many of which can be associated to known resonances, while others represent predictions for new resonances. The width of these states coming from decay into pseudoscalar baryon is also addressed. We also mention recent states coming from $Δρπ$ interaction obtained with Faddeev equations.
Using separable $\bar{K}N-πΣ$ potentials in the Faddeev equations, we calculated the binding energies and widths of the $K^{-}pp$, $K^{-}ppn$ and $K^{-}ppp$ quasi-bound states on the basis of three- and four-body Alt-Grassberger-Sandhas equations in the momentum representation. One- and two-pole version of $\bar{K}N-πΣ$ interaction are considered and the dependence of the resulting few-body energy on the two-body $\bar{K}N-πΣ$ potential was investigated. The $s$-wave [3+1] and [2+2] sub-amplitudes are obtained by using the Hilbert-Schmidt expansion procedure for the integral kernels. As a resu…
It is shown from rigorous three-body Faddeev calculations that the masses of all 14 lowest states in the $N$ and $Δ$ spectra can be described within a constituent quark model with a Goldstone-boson-exchange interaction plus linear confinement between the constituent quarks.
The main features of nuclear reactions with participation of baryon resonances ($Δ$(1232), S(1535) and $Λ$(1405)), which are interpreted as a manifestation of the bound states of nucleus and corresponding meson are discussed.
The neutron-deuteron (nd) scattering is solved in the Faddeev formalism, employing the energy-independent version of the quark-model baryon-baryon interaction fss2. The differential cross sections and the spin polarization of the elastic scattering up to the neutron incident energy $E_n=65$ MeV are well reproduced without reinforcing fss2 with the three-body force. The vector analyzing-power of the neutron, $A_y(θ)$, in the energy region $E_n$ < 25 MeV is largely improved in comparison with the predictions by the meson-exchange potentials, thus yielding a partial solution of the long-standing …
A hybrid model for baryons based on a dynamical interplay between relativistic three--quark bound states and soliton configurations of mesons is constructed. The Bethe-Salpeter equation for diquarks and the Faddeev equation for diquark-quark bound states in the background of a soliton is solved. The results show that baryons are very much like hybrids containing both, solitonic meson clouds and three--quark correlations.
We describe a calculation of the spectrum of flavour-SU(3) octet and decuplet baryons, their parity partners, and the radial excitations of these systems, made using a symmetry-preserving treatment of a vector-vector contact interaction as the foundation for the relevant few-body equations. Dynamical chiral symmetry breaking generates nonpointlike diquarks within these baryons and hence, using the contact interaction, flavour-antitriplet scalar, pseudoscalar and vector, and flavour-sextet axial-vector quark-quark correlations can all play an active role. The model yields reasonable masses for …
We compute the electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon in the Poincare-covariant Faddeev framework based on the Dyson-Schwinger equations of QCD. The general expression for a baryon's electromagnetic current in terms of three interacting dressed quarks is derived. Upon employing a rainbow-ladder gluon-exchange kernel for the quark-quark interaction, the nucleon's Faddeev amplitude and electromagnetic form factors are computed without any further truncations or model assumptions. The form factor results show clear evidence of missing pion-cloud effects below a photon momentum transfer of ~2…
The rho - omega interference in the exclusive reaction pi N \to N' e+ e- is studied within a schematic model including the established baryon resonances up to 1720 MeV. Near threshold the interference can be used to separate the isoscalar part of the electromagnetic current. The role of various baryon resonances is highlighted.
Dalitz decay of baryon resonances is studied and expressions for the decay width are derived for resonances with arbitrary spin and parity. Contributions of the various terms in the transition matrix element are compared and relevance of spin-parity and the resonance mass is discussed. Explicite algebraic expressions are cited for spin$\le$5/2 resonances. The results can be used in models of dielectron production in elementary reactions and heavy ion collisions.
Using the lowest order chiral Lagrangian we study s-wave interactions of the baryon decuplet with the octet of pseudoscalar mesons. We find two bound states in the flavour SU(3) limit corresponding to the octet and decuplet representations. These are found to split into eight different trajectories in the complex plane when the SU(3) symmetry is broken gradually. Finally, we are able to provide a reasonable description for a good number of 4-star 3/2- resonances listed by the Particle Data Group. In particular, the Xi(1820), the Lambda(1520) and the Sigma(1670) states are well reproduced. We p…
The reaction $K^-d \to πΣn$ is studied within a Faddeev-type approach, with emphasis on the specific kinematics of the E31 experiment at J-PARC, i.e. $K^-$ beam momentum of $p_K = 1$ GeV/c and neutron angle of $θ_n=0^\circ$. The employed Faddeev approach requires as main input amplitudes for the two-body subsystems $\bar KN \to \bar KN$ and $\bar KN \to πΣ$. For the latter results from recently published chiral unitary models of the $\bar KN$ interaction are utilized. The $\bar KN \to \bar KN$ amplitude itself, however, is taken from a recent partial-wave analysis. Due to the large incoming mo…
We treat baryons as bound states of scalar or axialvector diquarks and a constituent quark which interact through quark exchange. This description results as an approximation to the relativistic Faddeev equation for three quarks which yields an effective Bethe-Salpeter equation. Octet and decuplet masses and fully four-dimensional wave functions have been computed for two cases: assuming an essentially pointlike diquark on the one hand, and a diquark with internal structure on the other hand. Whereas the differences in the mass spectrum are fairly small, the nucleon electromagnetic form factor…
The recent Investigations in the chiral quark model show that kaon productions of nucleon play an important role in understanding the structure of baryons. The evidences of a third $S_{11}$ resonance in the second resonance region and two narrow states around 2 GeV suggest a set of the molecular type baryons with hidden strangeness. Confirming these states requires further theoretical and experimental studies of the strangeness production.
We study the $KΛ(1405)$ configuration of the $K\bar{K}N$ system by considering $KπΣ$ as a coupled channel. We solve the Faddeev equations for these systems and find confirmation of the existence of a new $N^{*}$ resonance around 1920 MeV with $J^π=1/2^{+}$ predicted in a single-channel potential model and also found in a Faddeev calculation as an $a_{0}(980)N$ state, with the $a_{0}(980)$ generated in the $K\bar{K}$, $πη$ interaction.
Constituent quark models provide a reasonable description of the baryon mass spectra. However, even in the light- and strange-flavor sectors several intriguing shortcomings remain. Especially with regard to strong decays of baryon resonances no consistent picture has so far emerged, and the existing experimental data cannot be explained in a satisfactory manner. Recently first covariant calculations with modern constituent quark models have become available for all pi, eta, and K decay modes of the low-lying light and strange baryons. They generally produced a remarkable underestimation of the…
Very recent eta and K+ photoproduction data on the proton from threshold up to E = 2.6 GeV are interpreted within a chiral constituent quark formalism, which embodies all known nucleon and hyperon resonances. Possible contributions from an additional S11 resonance are presented.
In this talk I show recent results on how many excited baryon resonances appear as systems of one meson and one baryon, or two mesons and one baryon, with the mesons being either pseudoscalar or vectors. Connection with experiment is made including a discussion on old predictions and recent results for the photoproduction of the $Λ(1405)$ resonance, as well as the prediction of one $1/2^+$ baryon state around 1920 MeV which might have been seen in the $γp \to K^+ Λ$ reaction.
We calculate the effect of many-body interactions in nuclear matter on the spectral function of $ρ$ and $ω$ meson. In particular, we focus on the role played by baryon resonances in this context.
Compton scattering data are sensitive to the existence of low-mass resonances reported by Tatischeff et al. We show that such states, with their reported properties, are excluded by previous Compton scattering experiments.
We present the results of the first calculations involving the interaction of vector mesons with baryons, by means of which one generates a large amount of dynamically generated resonances, many of which can be associated to known resonances, while others represent predictions for new states.
Within a chiral constituent quark formalism, allowing the inclusion of all known resonances, a comprehensive study of the recent eta photoproduction data on the proton up to 2 GeV is performed. This study shows evidence for a new S11 resonances and indicates the presence of an additional missing P13 resonance.
We solve the neutron-deuteron (nd) scattering in the Faddeev formalism, employing the NN sector of the quark-model baryon-baryon interaction fss2. The energy-dependence of the NN interaction, inherent to the resonating-group formulation of the quark-model baryon-baryon interaction, is eliminated by the standard off-shell transformation utilizing the normalization kernel of two-cluster systems. An extra nonlocality originating from this procedure is very important to reproduce all the nd scattering observables below E_n < 65 MeV. A new algorithm to solve the Alt-Glassberger-Sandhas (AGS) equati…
In this work we study the $ρB^*\bar{B}^*$ three-body system solving the Faddeev equations in the fixed center approximation. We assume the $B^*\bar{B}^*$ system forming a cluster, and in terms of the two-body $ρB^*$ unitarized scattering amplitudes in the local Hidden Gauge approach we find a new $I(J^{PC})=1(3^{--})$ state. The mass of the new state corresponds to a two particle invariant mass of the $ρB^\ast$ system close to the resonant energy of the $B^\ast_2(5747)$, indicating that the role of this $J=2$ resonance is important in the dynamical generation of the new state.
We study $S$-wave interactions of the baryon decuplet with the octet of pseudoscalar mesons using the lowest order chiral Lagrangian. We find two bound states in the SU(3) limit corresponding to the octet and decuplet representations. These are found to split into eight different trajectories in the complex plane when the SU(3) symmetry is broken gradually. Finally, we are able to provide a reasonable description for a good number of 4-star ${3/2}^-$ resonances listed by the Particle Data Group. In particular, the $Ξ(1820)$, the $Λ(1520)$ and the $Σ(1670)$ states are well reproduced. We predic…
We study J^P=(3/2)^- baryon resonances as generated by chiral coupled-channel dynamics. Parameter free results are obtained in terms of the Weinberg-Tomozawa term predicting the leading s-wave interaction strength of Goldstone bosons with baryon-decuplet states. In the 'heavy' SU(3) limit with m_π= m_K \sim 500 MeV the resonances turn into bound states forming a decuplet and octet representation of the SU(3) group. Using physical masses the mass splitting are remarkably close to the empirical pattern.
The s-wave interactions of the baryon decuplet with the octet of pseudoscalar mesons is studied in a unitarized coupled channel approach. We obtain a fair agreement for mass and width of several 3/2- resonances. In particular, the Xi(1820), the Lambda(1520) and the Sigma(1670) states are well reproduced. Other resonances are predicted and also the couplings of the observed resonances to the various channels are evaluated.
