This note presents constraints on Standard Model parameters using published and preliminary precision electroweak results measured at the electron-positron colliders LEP and SLC. The results are compared with precise electroweak measurements from other experiments, notably CDF and DØat the Tevatron. Constraints on the input parameters of the Standard Model are derived from the results obtained in high-$Q^2$ interactions, and used to predict results in low-$Q^2$ experiments, such as atomic parity violation, Møller scattering, and neutrino-nucleon scattering. The main changes with respect to the experimental results presented in 2007 are new combinations of results on the W-boson mass and width and the mass of the top quark.
An overview of Tevatron electroweak measurements performed by the CDF and D0 experiments is presented. The current status and future prospects for high precision measurements of electroweak parameters and detailed studies of boson production are highlighted.
Preliminary SLD electroweak results based on essentially the complete 550K Z dataset are presented and interpreted, and some historical background is provided.
We present results from electroweak precision measurements at CDF. These include the measurement of the Z boson rapidity distribution using di-electron events, the W boson charge asymmetry measurement in the electron-neutrino decay and the direct measurement of the W boson mass and width in both the electron-neutrino and muon-neutrino decay channels.

This talk describes some of the precision electroweak measurements from around the world, namely those related to the Z and W bosons, the top quark mass, sin2 theta_ W at NuTeV, and three other fundamental measurements: alpha-1 m2_ Z, (g-2)_mu at the E821 BNL experiment as well as the atomic parity violation (APV) measurement for the Cesium atom. These and other measurements are set in the context of the Standard Model (SM) and of the electroweak fit predictions. Future prospects for forthcoming experiments are briefly discussed.
The precision measurements of lepton electroweak parameters at SLD and LEP are reviewed and discussed. The updated SLD weak mixing angle measurement from $A_{LR}$ and the lepton left-right forward-backward asymmetries is $\sin^2θ_W^{eff} = 0.23099 \pm 0.00026$, and the combined SLD/LEP lepton-based value is $0.23119 \pm 0.00020$. This value differs by over $3σ$ from the comparable quark-based value.
Recent electroweak precision measurements from e+e- and pbarp colliders are presented. Some emphasis is placed on the recent developments in the heavy flavor sector. The measurements are compared to predictions from the Standard Model of electroweak interactions. All results are found to be consistent with the Standard Model. The indirect constraint on the top quark mass from all measurements is in excellent agreement with the direct Mt measurements. Using the world's electroweak data in conjunction with the current measurement of the top quark mass, the constraints on the Higgs mass are discu…
Future high energy linear electron positron colliders with centre-of-mass enegies between 90 and 1000 GeV offer a unique opportunity to study precisely the Standard Model and phenomena from new physics. Most important, the mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking can be established in full depth if one or more Higgs bosons are observed. Precision measurements of electroweak processes open a window into the multi-TeV energy range for searching for new physics, which is of particular importance if no light Higgs boson is observed.
An overview of recent results on electroweak precision measurements from the CMS Collaboration is presented. Studies of the weak boson differential transverse momentum spectra, Z boson angular coefficients, forward-backward asymmetry of Drell-Yan lepton pairs and charge asymmetry of W boson production are made in comparison to the state-of-the-art Monte Carlo generators and theoretical predictions. The results show a good agreement with the Standard Model. As a proof of principle for future W mass measurements, a W-like analysis of the Z boson mass is performed.
During the first three years of low luminosity operation, the LHC will facilitate a number of precision tests of the Electroweak sector of the Standard Model. The prospects for measuring the W boson and top quark masses and for probing the charged triple gauge boson couplings at ATLAS are presented here. In each case the most likely analysis methods are described and the statistical and systematic uncertainties which can be expected are reported.
The status of published and preliminary precision electroweak measurements as of winter 2002/03 is presented. The new results on the mass of the W boson as measured at LEP-2 and on atomic parity violation in Caesium are included. The experimental results are compared with the predictions of the minimal Standard Model and are used to constrain its parameters, including the mass of the Higgs boson. The agreement between measurements and expectations from theory is discussed.
A review of the decade of Z-pole electroweak physics is presented. Although all experimental work has been completed, it represents a ``Golden Age'' in our understanding of the Minimal Electroweak Standard Model (MSM). The latest (and nearly final) results from the LEP and SLC experiments are presented. The remaining inconsistencies are discussed and and their effects upon the MSM interpretation are explored.
We discuss the ultimate precision for ALR, and therefore for the weak mixing angle, at a high-luminosity Linear Collider. Drawing on our experience at the SLC, and considering various machine parameter sets for the NLC and for TESLA, it emerges that a compromise between peak luminosity and precision will be a likely outcome. This arises due to the severe requirements on the uncertainty in the luminosity weighted collision energy (Ecm). We consider the cases with and without a polarized positron beam.

This paper is an updated version of the lectures given at the XXIX International Meeting on Fundamental Physics in Sitges, Barcelona (February 2000). The measurements perforned at LEP and SLC have substantially improved the precision of the test of the Minimal Standard Model. The precision is such that there is sensitivity to pure weak radiative corrections. This allows to indirectly determine the top mass (m_t = 180 +- 10GeV), the W-boson mass (M_W = 80.375 +- 0.022GeV), and to set an upper limit on the Higgs boson mass of 196GeV at 95% confidence level.
The status in electroweak precision physics is reviewed. I present a brief summary of the latest data, global fit results, a few implications for new physics, and an outlook.
We compute the bounds from precision observables on alternative theories of electroweak symmetry breaking. We show that a cut-off as large as 3 TeV can be accomodated by the present data, without unnatural fine tuning.
Future electroweak precision measurements in the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) project would significantly improve the precision of electroweak oblique parameters. We evaluate the expected precision through global fits, and study the corresponding sensitivity to weakly interacting fermionic dark matter. Three models with electroweak multiplets in the dark sector are investigated as illuminating examples. We find that the CEPC data can probe up to TeV scales and explore some regions where direct detection cannot reach, especially when the models respect the custodial symmetry.
A brief review is given of precision electroweak physics, and its implications for establishing the standard model and constraining the possibilities for new physics at the TeV scale and beyond.
After reviewing the key features of the global electroweak fit, I will provide updated results and offer experimental and theoretical contexts. I will also make the case for greater precision and highlight future directions.
We present an overview of the present status and prospects for progress in electroweak measurements at future collider experiments leading to precision tests of the Standard Model of Electroweak Interactions. Special attention is paid to the measurement of the W mass, the effective weak mixing angle, and the determination of the top quark mass. Their constraints on the Higgs boson mass are discussed.
Several new physics scenarios, motivated e.g. by dark matter, feature new electroweakly charged states where the lightest particle in the multiplet is stable and neutral. In such cases direct searches at LHC are notoriously difficult, while electroweak precision tests both at hadron and lepton colliders offer the possibility to indirectly probe those states. In this work, we assess the sensitivity of the high-luminosity phase of the LHC on new electroweak multiplets via the modification of neutral and charged Drell-Yan processes, and compare the reach of future hadron and lepton colliders pres…
The study of electron-positron collisions at LEP, together with additional measurements from other experiments, in particular those at SLC and at the Tevatron, has allowed for tests of the electroweak Standard Model with unprecedented accuracy. We review the results of the electroweak precision tests and their implications on the determination of the Standard Model parameters, in particular of the Higgs boson mass, and comment on the constraints for possible new physics effects.
A brief review of electroweak precision data from LEP, SLC, the Tevatron, and low energies is presented. The global fit to all data including the most recent results on the masses of the top quark and the W boson reinforces the preference for a relatively light Higgs boson. I will also give an outlook on future developments at the Tevatron Run II, CEBAF, the LHC, and the ILC.
The global fit of the Standard Model predictions to electroweak precision data, which has been routinely performed in the past decades by several groups, led to the prediction of the top quark and the Higgs boson masses before their respective discoveries. With the measurement of the Higgs boson mass at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in 2012 by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations, the last free parameter of the Standard Model of particle physics has been fixed, and the global electroweak fit can be used to test the full internal consistency of the electroweak sector of the Standard Model and con…
We present a complete study of the vacuum structure of Top Quark Seesaw models of the Electroweak Symmetry Breaking, including bottom quark mass generation. Such models emerge naturally from extra dimensions. We perform a systematic gap equation analysis and develop an improved broken phase formulation for including exact seesaw mixings. The composite Higgs boson spectrum is studied in the large-N_c fermion-bubble approximation and an improved renormalization group approach. The theoretically allowed parameter space is restrictive, leading to well-defined predictions. We further analyze the el…
Anomalous interactions involving the top quark contribute to some of the most difficult observables to directly access experimentally. They can give however a sizeable correction to very precisely measured observables at the loop level. Using a model-independent effective Lagrangian approach, we present the leading indirect constraints on dimension-six effective operators involving the top quark from electroweak precision data. They represent the most stringent constraints on these interactions, some of which may be directly testable in future colliders.
The prospects for electroweak precision measurements at the Future Circular Collider with electron-positron beams (FCC-ee) are discussed. The Z mass and width, as well as the value of the electroweak mixing angle, can be measured with very high precision at the Z pole thanks to an instantaneous luminosity five to six order of magnitudes larger than LEP. At centre-of-mass energies around 160 GeV, corresponding to the WW production threshold, the W mass can be determined very precisely with high-statistics cross section measurements at several energy points. Similarly, a very precise determinati…
Due to the high anticipated experimental precision at the Future Circular Collider FCC-ee (or other proposed $e^+e^-$ colliders, such as ILC, CLIC, or CEPC) for electroweak and Higgs-boson precision measurements, theoretical uncertainties may have, if unattended, an important impact on the interpretation of these measurements within the Standard Model (SM), and thus on constraints on new physics. Current theory uncertainties, which would dominate the total uncertainty, need to be strongly reduced through future advances in the calculation of multi-loop radiative corrections together with impro…
We revisit the global fit to electroweak precision observables in the Standard Model and present model-independent bounds on several general new physics scenarios. We present a projection of the fit based on the expected experimental improvements at future $e^+ e^-$ colliders, and compare the constraining power of some of the different experiments that have been proposed. All results have been obtained with the HEPfit code.
The measurements carried out at LEP and SLC projected us into the precision era of electroweak physics. This has also been relevant in the theoretical interpretation of LHCb and Belle measurements of rare $B$ semileptonic decays, paving the road for new physics with the inference of lepton universality violation in $R_{K^{(*)}}$ ratios. The simplest explanation of these flavour anomalies -- sizeable one-loop contributions respecting Minimal Flavour Violation -- is currently disfavoured by electroweak precision data. In this work, we discuss how to completely relieve the present tension between…
While it is known that third family hypercharge models can explain the neutral current $B-$anomalies, it was hitherto unclear whether the $Z-Z^\prime$ mixing predicted by such models could simultaneously fit electroweak precision observables. Here, we perform global fits of several third family hypercharge models to a combination of electroweak data and those data pertinent to the neutral current $B-$anomalies. While the Standard Model is in tension with this combined data set with a $p-$value of $.00068$, simple versions of the models (fitting two additional parameters each) provide much impr…
We present a detailed study of the charged current Drell-Yan process, which includes the exact O(alpha) electroweak corrections properly matched with leading-log effects due to multiple-photon emission, as required by the experiments at the Tevatron and the LHC. Numerical results for the relevant observables of single W boson production at hadron colliders are presented. The impact of the radiative corrections and of some sources of theoretical uncertainty is discussed in detail. The calculation has been implemented in the new version of the event generator HORACE, which is available for preci…
The observed Higgs boson mass and the naturalness argument leave us a narrow window for the soft mass spectrum in natural supersymmetry that can be studied through the electroweak precision tests (EWPTs). We divide the analysis into the Higgs sector constrained by the charged Higgs mass bound, the neutralino-chargino sector constrained by the chargino mass bound, and the third-generation squark sector tightly constrained by the observed Higgs mass. Total contributions to EWPTs in the MSSM and NMSSM are both presented. It turns out that natural MSSM is excluded at 68\% CL but consistent at 95\%…
We analyze various models with an extra U(1) gauge symmetry in addition to the Standard Model (SM) gauge group at low energies, and impose limits on the mass of the neutral Z' boson, M_Z', predicted in all such models, and on the Z-Z' mixing angle, theta_ZZ'. The precision electroweak data strongly constrain theta_ZZ' to very small values and for most models we find lower limits on M_Z' of order 1 TeV. In one case we obtain a somewhat better fit than in the SM (although this is only marginally statistically significant) and here we find a weak upper limit at the 90% C.L.
The proposed electron-proton collider experiments LHeC and FCC-eh at CERN are the highest resolution microscopes that can be realised in the present century and they would represent a really unique research facility. We exploit simulated neutral-current and charged-current deep-inelastic scattering data of the LHeC and the FCC-eh and examine their sensitivity for precision physics in the Electroweak sector of the Standard Model (SM), like the effective weak mixing angle $\sin^2θ_{\textrm{W},\ell}^\textrm{eff}$, or the light-quark weak-neutral-current couplings. Unique measurements are further …
We present a new global fit to precision electroweak data, including new low- and high-energy data and analyzing the radiative corrections arising from the minimal symmetry breaking sectors of the Standard Model (SM) and its supersymmetric extension (MSSM). It is shown that present data favor a Higgs mass of O(M_Z): M_H = 76+152-50 GeV. We confront our analysis with (meta)stability and perturbative bounds on the SM Higgs mass, and the theoretical upper bound on the MSSM Higgs mass. Present data do not discriminate significantly between the SM and MSSM Higgs mass ranges. We comment in passing o…
