The non-linear effects operating at the recombination epoch generate a non-Gaussian signal in the CMB anisotropies. Such a contribution is relevant because it represents a major part of the second-order radiation transfer function which must be determined in order to have a complete control of both the primordial and non-primordial part of non-Gaussianity in the CMB anisotropies. We provide an estimate of the level of non-Gaussianity in the CMB arising from the recombination epoch which shows up mainly in the equilateral configuration. We find that it causes a contamination to the possible measurement of the equilateral primordial bispectrum shifting the minimum detectable value of the non-Gaussian parameter f^equil_NL by Delta f^equil_NL= O(10) for an experiment like Planck.
The perturbations in the electron number density during recombination contributes to the Cosmic Microwave Background bispectrum through second order terms. Perturbations in the electron density can be a factor of ~5 larger than the baryon density fluctuations on large scales as shown in the calculations by Novosyadlyj. This raises the possibility that the contribution to bispectrum arising from perturbations in the optical depth may be non-negligible. We calculate this bispectrum and find it to peak for squeezed triangles and of peak amplitude of the order of primordial non-Gaussianity of loca…
We approximately compute the bispectrum induced on the CMB temperature by fluctuations in the standard recombination epoch. Of all the second order sources that can induce non-Gaussianity during recombination, we concentrate on those proportional to the perturbation in the free electron density, which is about a factor of 5 larger than the other first order perturbations. This term induces some non-Gaussianity by delaying the time of recombination and by changing the photon diffusion scale. We find that the signal is not scale invariant, peaked on squeezed triangles with the smaller multipole …
Alfven turbulence caused by statistically isotropic and homogeneous primordial magnetic field induces correlations in the cosmic microwave background anisotropies. The correlations are specifically between spherical harmonic modes a_{l-1,m} and a_{l+1,m}. In this paper we approach this issue from phase analysis of the CMB maps derived from the WMAP data sets. Using circular statistics and return phase mapping we examine phase correlation of Δl=2 for the primordial non-Gaussianity caused by the Alfven turbulence at the epoch of recombination. Our analyses show that such specific features from t…
We provide an analytical approach to the second-order Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropies generated by the non-linear dynamics taking place at last scattering. We study the acoustic oscillations of the photon-baryon fluid in the tight coupling limit and we extend at second-order the Meszaros effect. We allow for a generic set of initial conditions due to primordial non-Gaussianity and we compute all the additional contributions arising at recombination. Our results are useful to provide the full second-order radiation transfer function at all scales necessary for establishing the le…
We present the computation of the full system of Boltzmann equations at second-order describing the evolution of the photon, baryon and cold dark matter fluids. These equations allow to follow the time evolution of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropies at second-order at all angular scales from the early epoch, when the cosmological perturbations were generated, to the present through the recombination era. This paper sets the stage for the computation of the full second-order radiation transfer function at all scales and for a a generic set of initial conditions specifying the le…
We develop a formalism to study non-Gaussianity in both curvature and isocurvature perturbations. It is shown that non-Gaussianity in the isocurvature perturbation between dark matter and photons leaves distinct signatures in the CMB temperature fluctuations, which may be confirmed in future experiments, or possibly, even in the currently available observational data. As an explicit example, we consider the QCD axion and show that it can actually induce sizable non-Gaussianity for the inflationary scale, H_{inf} = O(10^9 - 10^{11})GeV.
We investigate the non-Gaussianity of the brane inflation which happens in the same throat in the framework of the generalized KKLMMT model. When we take the constraints from non-Gaussianity into account, various consequences are discussed including the bound on the string coupling, such as the string coupling is larger than 0.08 and the effective string scale on the brane is larger than $1.3 \times 10^{-4} M_p$ in KKLMMT model.
We consider a two-field model for inflation where the second order metric perturbations can be amplified by a parametric resonance during preheating. We demonstrate that there can arise a considerable enhancement of non-Gaussianity sourced by the local terms generated through the coupled perturbations. We argue that the non-Gaussianity parameter could be as large as f_{NL} ~ 50. Our results may provide a useful test of preheating in future CMB experiments.
This is a review of models of inflation and of their predictions for the primordial non-Gaussianity in the density perturbations which are thought to be at the origin of structures in the Universe. Non-Gaussianity emerges as a key observable to discriminate among competing scenarios for the generation of cosmological perturbations and is one of the primary targets of present and future Cosmic Microwave Background satellite missions. We give a detailed presentation of the state-of-the-art of the subject of non-Gaussianity, both from the theoretical and the observational point of view, and provi…
We study non-Gaussianity in two distinct models of preheating: instant and tachyonic. In instant preheating non-Gaussianity is sourced by the local terms generated through the coupled perturbations of the two scalar fields. We find that the non-Gaussianity parameter is given by $f_{NL}^ϕ\sim 2g < O(1)$, where $g$ is a coupling constant, so that instant preheating is unlikely to be constrained by WMAP or Planck. In the case of tachyonic preheating non-Gaussianity arises solely from the instability of the tachyon matter and is found to be large. We find that for single field inflation the presen…
We study the evolution of cosmological perturbations on large scales, up to second order, for a perfect fluid with generic equation of state. Taking advantage of super-horizon conservation laws, it is possible to follow the evolution of the non-Gaussianity of perturbations through the different stages after inflation. We find that a large non-linearity is generated by the gravitational dynamics from the original inflationary quantum fluctuations. This leads to a significant enhancement of the tiny intrinsic non-Gaussianity produced during inflation in single-field slow-roll models.
We point out that a light scalar field fluctuating around a symmetry-enhaced point can generate large non-Gaussianity in density fluctuations. We name such a particle as an "ungaussiton", a scalar field dominantly produced by the quantum fluctuations, generating sizable non-Gaussianity in the density fluctuations. We derive a consistency relation between the bispectrum and the trispectrum, tau_NL = 10^3 f_NL^(4/3), which can be extended to arbitrary high order correlation functions. If such a relation is confirmed by future observations, it will strongly support this mechanism.
We consider reheating after inflation with a non-standard kinetic term. We show that the difference in the kinetic term in different Hubble patches inherited from the long-wavelength moduli inhomogeneities may generate a significant level of non-Gaussianity after inflation.
The generation of non-gaussianity is studied in a three fluid curvaton model. By utilizing second order perturbation theory we derive general formulae for the large scale temperature fluctuation and non-gaussianity parameter, $f_{NL}$, that includes the possibility of a non-adiabatic final state. In the adiabatic limit we recover previously known results. The results are applied to a three fluid curvaton model where the curvaton decays into radiation and matter. We find that the amount of non-gaussianity decreases as the final state of the system becomes more adiabatic and that the generated n…
In the literature there have been incompatible estimates for the amount of non-Gaussianity in hybrid inflation. In this note we point out the sources for the discrepancies and show that the results for the amount of non-Gaussianity in hybrid inflation obtained by two different methods, namely, perturbing Einstein equation to second order and the separate universe approach, indeed are compatible. This provides confidence in the methods themselves and in the actual computation of non-Gaussianities.
We study the level of primordial non-Gaussianity in slow-roll two-field inflation. Using an analytic formula for the nonlinear parameter f_nl in the case of a sum or product separable potential, we find that it is possible to generate significant non-Gaussianity even during slow-roll inflation with Gaussian perturbations at Hubble exit. In this paper we give the general conditions to obtain large non-Gaussianity and calculate the level of fine-tuning required to obtain this. We present explicit models in which the non-Gaussianity at the end of inflation can exceed the current observational bou…
Some analyses of recent cosmic microwave background (CMB) data have provided hints that there are deviations from Gaussianity in the WMAP CMB temperature fluctuations. Given the far reaching consequences of such a non-Gaussianity for our understanding of the physics of the early universe, it is important to employ alternative indicators in order to determine whether the reported non-Gaussianity is of cosmological origin, and/or extract further information that may be helpful for identifying its causes. We propose two new non-Gaussianity indicators, based on skewness and kurtosis of large-angle…
We provide the gauge-invariant expression for large-scale cosmic microwave background temperature fluctuations at second-order in perturbation theory. It enables to unambiguously define the nonlinearity parameter f_NL which is used by experimental collaborations to pin down the level of Non-Gaussianity in the temperature fluctuations. Furthermore, it contains a primordial term encoding all the information about the Non-Gaussianity generated at primordial epochs and about the mechanism which gave rise to cosmological perturbations, thus neatly disentangling the primordial contribution to Non-Ga…
Light scalars may be ubiquitous in nature, and their quantum fluctuations can produce large non-Gaussianity in the cosmic microwave background temperature anisotropy. The non-Gaussianity may be accompanied with a small admixture of isocurvature perturbations, which often have correlations with the curvature perturbations. We present a general method to calculate the non-Gaussianity in the adiabatic and isocurvature perturbations with and without correlations, and see how it works in several explicit examples. We also show that they leave distinct signatures on the bispectrum of the cosmic micr…
We investigate the isocurvaton model, in which the isocurvature perturbation plays a role in suppressing the curvature perturbation, and large non-Gaussianity and gravitational waves can be produced with no isocurvature perturbation for dark matter. We show that in the slow roll non-interacting multi-field theory, the isocurvaton mechanism can not be realized. This result can also be generalized to most of the studied models with generalized kinetic terms. We also study the implications for the curvaton model. We show that there is a combined constraint for curvaton on non-Gaussianity, gravita…
We discuss how primordial (e.g. inflationary) non-Gaussianity in the cosmological perturbations is left imprinted in the Large-Scale Structure of the universe. Our findings show that the information on the primordial non-Gaussianity set on super-Hubble scales flows into Post-Newtonian terms, leaving an observable imprint in the Large-Scale Structure. Future high-precision measurements of the statistics of the dark matter density and peculiar velocity fields will allow to pin down the primordial non-Gaussianity, thus representing a tool complementary to studies of the Cosmic Microwave Backgroun…
Recently it has been shown that the thermal holographic fluctuations can give rise to an almost scale invariant spectrum of metric perturbations since in this scenario the energy is proportional to the area of the boundary rather than the volume. Here we calculate the non-Gaussianity of the spectrum of cosmological fluctuations in holographic phase, which can imprint on the radiation dominated universe by an abrupt transition. We find that if the matter is phantom-like, the non-Gaussianity $f_{NL}^{equil}$ can reach ${\cal O}(1)$ or even be larger than ${\cal O}(1)$. Especially in the limit $ω…
We consider the non-Gaussianity of the nonlinear density perturbations in a single-field inflationary model when a scalar field couples nonminimally with gravity. Gravity theories with a nonminimal coupling can be transformed into the Einstein gravity with canonical kinetic terms by using a suitable conformal transformation. We find that a nonlinear generalization of the gauge invariant quantity $ζ_i$ is invariant under the conformal transformation. With the help of this conformal invariant property, we calculate the non-Gaussianity, which is characterized by a nonlinear parameter $f_{NL}$, in…
The next generation of CMB experiments should get a better handle on cosmological parameters by mapping the weak lensing deflection field, which is separable from primary anisotropies thanks to the non-Gaussianity induced by lensing. However, the generation of perturbations in the Early Universe also produces a level of non-Gaussianity which is known to be small, but can contribute to the anisotropy trispectrum at the same level as lensing. In this work, we study whether the primordial non-Gaussianity can mask the lensing statistics. We concentrate only on the ``temperature quadratic estimator…
Correlated adiabatic and isocurvature perturbation modes are produced during inflation through an oscillation mechanism when extra scalar degrees of freedom other than the inflaton field are present. We show that this correlation generically leads to sizeable non-Gaussian features both in the adiabatic and isocurvature perturbations. The non-Gaussianity is first generated by large non-linearities in some scalar sector and then efficiently transferred to the inflaton sector by the oscillation process. We compute the cosmic microwave background angular bispectrum, providing a characteristic feat…
In curvaton-type models, observable non-gaussianity of the curvature perturbation would come from a contribution of the form $(δσ)^2$, where $δσ$ is gaussian. I analyse this situation allowing $δσ$ to be scale-dependent. The actual curvaton model is considered in more detail than before, including its cosmic uncertainty and anthropic status. The status of curvaton-type models after WMAP year three data is considered.
We investigate consistency relations for non-Gaussianity. We provide a model-independent dynamical proof for the consistency relation of 3-point correlation functions from the Hamiltonian and field redefinition. This relation can be applied to single field inflation, multi-field inflation and the curvaton scenario. This relation can also be generalized to $n$-point correlation functions up to arbitrary order in perturbation theory and with arbitrary number of loops.
We use the Hamilton-Jacobi theory to study the nonlinear evolutions of inhomogeneous spacetimes during inflation in generalized gravity. We find the exact solutions to the lowest order Hamilton-Jacobi equation for special scalar potentials and introduce an approximation method for general potentials. The conserved quantity invariant under a change of timelike hypersurfaces proves useful in dealing with gravitational perturbations. In the long-wavelength approximation, we find a conserved quantity related to the new canonical variable that makes the Hamiltonian density vanish, and calculate the…
Any hint of non-gaussianity in the cosmological initial conditions will provide us with a unique window into the physics of early universe. We show that the impact of a small local primordial non-gaussianity (generated on super-horizon scales) on the statistics of collapsed objects (such as galaxies or clusters) can be approximated by using slightly modified, but gaussian, initial conditions, which we describe through simple analytic expressions. Given that numerical simulations with gaussian initial conditions are relatively well-studied, this equivalence provides us with a simple tool to pre…
We discuss non-Gaussianity and baryonic isocurvature fluctuations in the curvaton scenario, assuming that the baryon asymmetry of the universe originates only from the decay products of the inflaton. When large non-Gaussianity is realized in such a scenario, non-vanishing baryonic isocurvature fluctuations can also be generated unless the baryogenesis occurs after the decay of the curvaton. We calculate the non-linearity parameter f_NL and the baryonic isocurvature fluctuations, taking account of the primordial fluctuations of both the inflaton and the curvaton. We show that, although current …
Recently we studied inflation models in which the inflaton potential is characterized by an underlying approximate global symmetry. In the first work we pointed out that in such a model curvature perturbations are generated after the end of the slow-roll phase of inflation. In this work we develop further the observational implications of the model and compute the degree of non-Gaussianity predicted in the scenario. We find that the corresponding nonlinearity parameter, $f_{NL}$, can be as large as 10^2.
We study Newtonian cosmological perturbation theory from a field theoretical point of view. We derive a path integral representation for the cosmological evolution of stochastic fluctuations. Our main result is the closed form of the generating functional valid for any initial statistics. Moreover, we extend the renormalization group method proposed by Mataresse and Pietroni to the case of primordial non-Gaussian density and velocity fluctuations. As an application, we calculate the nonlinear propagator and examine how the non-Gaussianity affects the memory of cosmic fields to their initial co…
We study non-Gaussianity induced by a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson with a cosine-type scalar potential. We focus on how the non-Gaussianity is affected when the pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson rolls down from near the top of the scalar potential where the deviation from a quadratic potential is large. We find that the resultant non-Gaussianity is similar to that obtained in the quadratic potential, if the pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson accounts for the curvature perturbation; the non-Gaussianity is enhanced, otherwise.
We study non-Gaussianity, the spectral index of primordial scalar fluctuations and tensor modes in models where fluctuations from the inflaton and the curvaton can both contribute to the present cosmic density fluctuations. Even though simple single-field inflation models generate only tiny non-Gaussianity, if we consider such a mixed scenario, large non-Gaussianity can be produced. Furthermore, we study the inflationary parameters such as the spectral index and the tensor-to-scalar ratio in this kind of models and discuss in what cases models predict the spectral index and tensor modes allowe…
We study a scenario that large non-Gaussianity arises from the baryon asymmetry of the Universe. There are baryogenesis scenarios containing a light scalar field, which may result in baryonic isocurvature perturbations with some amount of non-Gaussianity. As an explicit example we consider the Affleck-Dine mechanism and show that a flat direction of the supersymmeteric standard model can generate large non-Gaussianity in the curvature perturbations, satisfying the observational constraints on the baryonic isocurvature perturbations. The sign of a non-linearity parameter, f_{NL}, is negative, i…
In this paper we fully calculate the non-Gaussianity of primordial curvature perturbation of island universe by using the second order perturbation equation. We find that for the spectral index $n_s\simeq 0.96$, which is favored by current observations, the non-Gaussianity level $f_{NL}$ seen in island will generally lie between 30 $\sim$ 60, which may be tested by the coming observations. In the landscape, the island universe is one of anthropically acceptable cosmological histories. Thus the results obtained in some sense means the coming observations, especially the measurement of non-Gauss…
We analyze WMAP 3 year data using the one-point distribution functions to probe the non-Gaussianity in the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) Anisotropy data. Computer simulations are performed to determine the uncertainties of the results. We report the non-Gaussianity parameter f_NL is constrained to 26<f_NL<82 for Q-band, 12<f_NL<67 for V-band, 7<f_NL<64 for W-band and 23<f_NL<75 for Q+V+W combined data at 95% confidence level (CL).
We suppose that a vector field perturbation causes part of the primordial curvature perturbation. The non-Gaussianity parameter fNL is then, in general, statistically anisotropic. We calculate its form and magnitude in the curvaton scenario and in the end-of-inflation scenario. We show that this anisotropy could easily be observable.
We investigate the non-Gaussianity of primordial curvature perturbation in the modulated reheating scenario where the primordial perturbation is generated due to the spacial fluctuation of the inflaton decay rate to radiation. We use the $δN$ formalism to evaluate the trispectrum of curvature perturbation as well as its bispectrum. We give expressions for three non-linear parameters $f_{NL}, τ_{NL}$ and $g_{NL}$ in the modulated reheating scenario. If the intrinsic non-Gaussianity of scalar field fluctuations and third derivative of the decay rate with respect to scalar fields are negligibly s…
We discuss the signatures of non-Gaussianity in the curvaton model where the potential includes also a non-quadratic term. In such a case the non-linearity parameter f_NL can become very small, and we show that non-Gaussianity is then encoded in the non-reducible non-linearity parameter g_NL of the trispectrum, which can be very large. Thus the place to look for the non-Gaussianity in the curvaton model may be the trispectrum rather than the bispectrum. We also show that g_NL measures directly the deviation of the curvaton potential from the purely quadratic form. While g_NL depends on the str…
It has been pointed out by several groups that ekpyrotic and cyclic models generate significant non-gaussianity. In this paper, we present a physically intuitive, semi-analytic estimate of the bispectrum. We show that, in all such models, there is an intrinsic contribution to the non-gaussianity parameter f_{NL} that is determined by the geometric mean of the equation of state w_{ek} during the ekpyrotic phase and w_{c} during the phase that curvature perturbations are generated and whose value is O(100) or more times the intrinsic value predicted by simple slow-roll inflationary models, f_{NL…
We argue that the typical energy density of a light scalar field should not be less than $H^4$ in the inflationary Universe. This requirement implies that the non-Gaussianity parameter $f_{NL}$ is typically bounded by the tensor-scalar ratio $r$ from above, namely $f_{NL}\lesssim 518\cdot r^{1\over 4}$. If $f_{NL}=10^2$, inflation occurred around the GUT scale.
Preheating can convert superhorizon fluctuations of light scalar fields present at the end of inflation into observable density perturbations. We show in detail how lattice field theory simulations and the separate universes approximation can be used to calculate these perturbations and make predictions for the nonlinearity parameter fNL . We also present a simple approximation scheme that can reproduce these results analytically. Applying these methods to the massless preheating model, we determine the parameter values that are ruled out by too high levels of non-Gaussianity.
Perturbations in a universe with matter and cosmological constant are computed in terms of the primordial scalar perturbation up to second order. The calculation is easy -- a generalization of the spherical dust solution. Our expression might allow accurate measurements of the primordial non-Gaussianity.
In a recent Letter we have shown how COBE-DMR maps may be used to disprove Gaussianity at a high confidence level. In this report we digress on a few issues closely related to this Letter. We present the general formalism for surveying non-Gaussianity employed. We present a few more tests for systematics. We wonder about the theoretical implications of our result.
In this paper, we use the result in [7] to calculate the non-Gaussianity of the racetrack models in [3, 5]. The two models give different non- Gaussianities. Both of them are reasonable.
Using the "$δN$-formalism", We obtain the expression of the non-Gaussianity of multiple-field inflationary models with the nontrivial field-space metric. Further, we rewritten the result by using the slow-rolling approximation.
When constraining the primordial non-Gaussianity parameter f_NL with cosmic microwave background anisotropy maps, the bias resulting from the covariance between primordial non-Gaussianity and secondary non-Gaussianities to the estimator of f_NL is generally assumed to be negligible. We show that this assumption may not hold when attempting to measure the primordial non-Gaussianity out to angular scales below a few tens arcminutes with an experiment like Planck, especially if the primordial non-Gaussianity parameter is around the minimum detectability level with f_NL between 5 and 10. In future…
We review our recent claim that there is evidence of non-Gaussianity in the 4 Year COBE DMR data. We present some new results concerning the effect of the galactic cut upon the non-Gaussian signal. These findings imply a localization of the non-Gaussian signal on the Northern galactic hemisphere.
The scalar mode density perturbations in a the warm inflationary scenario are analysed with a view to predicting the amount of non-gaussianity produced by this scenario. The analysis assumes that the inflaton evolution is strongly damped by the radiation, with damping terms that are temperature independent. Entropy fluctuations during warm inflation play a crucial role in generating non-gaussianity and result in a distinctive signal which should be observable by the Planck satellite.
We consider curvaton models with potentials that depart slightly from the quadratic form. We show that although such a small departure does not modify significantly the Gaussian part of the curvature perturbation, it can have a pronounced effect on the level of non-Gaussianity. We find that unlike in the quadratic case, the limit of small non-Gaussianity, $|f_{NL}|\ll1$, is quite possible even with small curvaton energy density $r\ll1$ . Furthermore, non-Gaussianity does not imply any strict bounds on $r$ but the bounds depend on the assumptions about the higher order terms in the curvaton pot…
The primordial non-Gaussianity signal, if measured accurately, will allow us to distinguish between different candidate models for the cosmic inflation. Since the galaxy groups located in void regions are rare events, their abundance may be a sensitive probe of the primordial non-Gaussianity. We construct an analytic model for the mass function of void groups in the framework of the extended Press-Schechter theory with non-Gaussian initial conditions and investigate how it depends on the primordial non-Gaussianity parameter. A feasibility study is conducted by fitting the analytic mass functio…
The non-Gaussianity of initial perturbations provides information on the mechanism that generated primordial density fluctuations. The expected non-Gaussianity for slow-roll inflationary models is well below the ultimate detection level with cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies or large-large structure at low redshifts. We find that 21-cm background anisotropies of the low-frequency radio sky due to inhomogeneous neutral Hydrogen distribution at redshifts between 30 and 100 captures information on primordial non-Gaussianity better than any other cosmological probe. An all-sky 21-cm e…
We investigate the relative sensitivities of several tests for deviations from Gaussianity in the primordial distribution of density perturbations. We consider models for non-Gaussianity that mimic that which comes from inflation as well as that which comes from topological defects. The tests we consider involve the cosmic microwave background (CMB), large-scale structure (LSS), high-redshift galaxies, and the abundances and properties of clusters. We find that the CMB is superior at finding non-Gaussianity in the primordial gravitational potential (as inflation would produce), while observati…
The detection of primordial non-Gaussianity could provide a powerful means to test various inflationary scenarios. Although scale-invariant non-Gaussianity (often described by the $f_{NL}$ formalism) is currently best constrained by the CMB, single-field models with changing sound speed can have strongly scale-dependent non-Gaussianity. Such models could evade the CMB constraints but still have important effects at scales responsible for the formation of cosmological objects such as clusters and galaxies. We compute the effect of scale-dependent primordial non-Gaussianity on cluster number cou…
We give a concise formula for the non-Gaussianity of the primordial curvature perturbation generated on super-horizon scales in multi-scalar inflation model without assuming slow-roll conditions. This is an extension of our previous work. Using this formula, we study the generation of non-Gaussianity for the double inflation models in which the slow-roll conditions are temporarily violated after horizon exit, and we show that the non-linear parameter $f_{NL}$ for such models is suppressed by the slow-roll parameters evaluated at the time of horizon exit.
We analyze the cosmic non-gaussianity produced in inflation models with multiple uncoupled fields with monomial potentials, such as Nflation. Using the horizon-crossing approximation to compute the non-gaussianity, we show that when each field has the same form of potential, the prediction is independent the number of fields, their initial conditions, and the spectrum of masses/couplings. It depends only on the number of e-foldings after the horizon crossing of observable perturbations. We also provide a further generalization to the case where the fields can have monomial potentials with diff…
In this paper we calculate additional contributions to that part of the non-Gaussianity of the curvature perturbation, which come from the three-point correlator of the field perturbations. We estimate this contribution in the following models for its origin: single-component inflation, multi-component chaotic inflation, a two-component "hybrid" inflationary model, and the curvaton scenario. In all of these models, the additional contributions to the primordial non-gaussianity considered here, are too small to be ever detected.
We present an estimate for the non-linear parameter τ_NL, which measures the non-gaussianity imprinted in the trispectrum of the comoving curvature perturbation, ζ. Our estimate is valid throughout the inflationary era, until the slow-roll approximation breaks down, and takes into account the evolution of perturbations on superhorizon scales. We find that the non-gaussianity is always small if the field values at the end of inflation are negligible when compared to their values at horizon crossing. Under the same assumption, we show that in Nflation-type scenarios, where the potential is a sum…
Employing the perturbative treatment of gravitational clustering, we discuss possible effects of primordial non-Gaussianity on the matter power spectrum. As gravitational clustering develops, the coupling between different Fourier modes of density perturbations becomes important and the primordial non-Gaussianity which intrinsically possesses a non-trivial mode-correlation can affect the late-time evolution of the power spectrum. We quantitatively estimate the non-Gaussian effect on power spectrum from the perturbation theory. The potential impact on the cosmological parameter estimation using…
