The leading nonadiabatic corrections to rovibrational levels of a diatomic molecule are expressed in terms of three functions of internuclear distance: corrections to the adiabatic potential, the effective nuclear mass, and the effective moment of inertia. The resulting radial Schrödinger equation for nuclear motion is solved numerically yielding accurate nonadiabatic energies for all rovibrational levels of H$_2$ molecule in excellent agreement with previous calculations by Wolniewicz.
We present an accurate theoretical determination of rovibrational energy levels of the hydrogen molecule and its isotopologues in its electronic ground state. We consider all significant corrections to the Born-Oppenheimer approximation, obtained within nonadiabatic perturbation theory, including the mixed nonadiabatic-relativistic effects. Quantum electrodynamic corrections in the leading $α^5\,m$ and the next-to-leading $α^6\,m$ orders, as well as finite nuclear size effect, are also taken into account but within the Born-Oppenheimer approximation only. Final results for the transition wavel…
The mass-correction functions in the second-order non-adiabatic Hamiltonian are computed for the $^4$He$^+_2$ molecular ion using the variational method, floating explicitly correlated Gaussian functions, and a general coordinate-transformation formalism. When non-adiabatic rovibrational energy levels are computed using these (coordinate-dependent) mass-correction functions and a highly accurate potential energy and diagonal Born-Oppenheimer correction curve, significantly improved theoretical results are obtained for the nine rotational and two rovibrational intervals known from high-resoluti…
General transformation expressions of the second-order non-adiabatic Hamiltonian of the atomic nuclei, including the kinetic-energy correction terms, are derived upon the change from laboratory-fixed Cartesian coordinates to general curvilinear coordinate systems commonly used in rovibrational computations. The kinetic-energy or so-called "mass-correction" tensor elements are computed with the stochastic variational method and floating explicitly correlated Gaussian functions for the H$_2^+$ molecular ion in its ground electronic state. (Further numerical applications for the $^4$He$_2^+$ mole…

State-of-the-art ab initio techniques have been applied to compute the potential energy curves for the electronic states in the A^1Σ_u^+, c^3Π_u, and a^3Σ_u^+ manifold of the strontium dimer, the spin-orbit and nonadiabatic coupling matrix elements between the states in the manifold, and the electric transition dipole moment from the ground X^1Σ_g^+ to the nonrelativistic and relativistic states in the A+c+a manifold. The potential energy curves and transition moments were obtained with the linear response (equation of motion) coupled cluster method limited to single, double, and linear triple…
Although the existence of quasi-bound rotational levels of the $X^+ \ ^2Σ_g^+$ ground state of H$_2^+$ has been predicted a long time ago, these states have never been observed. Calculated positions and widths of quasi-bound rotational levels located close to the top of the centrifugal barriers have not been reported either. Given the role that such states play in the recombination of H(1s) and H$^+$ to form H$_2^+$, this lack of data may be regarded as one of the largest unknown aspects of this otherwise accurately known fundamental molecular cation. We present measurements of the positions a…

The nonrelativistic energy of low lying rovibrational levels of HT, DT, and \T\ is determined to an absolute accuracy of $10^{-7}-10^{-8}$ cm$^{-1}$ using the variational method with the four-body nonadiabatic James-Coolidge functions. The new results increase the accuracy of the nonrelativistic component of the energy levels by several orders of magnitude. As a consequence, the total transition energies are improved by at least an order of magnitude.
The rovibrational intervals of the $^4$He$_2^+$ molecular ion in its $X\ ^2Σ_\text{u}^+$ ground electronic state are computed by including the non-adiabatic, relativistic, and leading-order quantum-electrodynamics corrections. Good agreement of theory and experiment is observed for the rotational excitation series of the vibrational ground state and the fundamental vibration. The lowest-energy rotational interval is computed to be $70.937\ 69(10)$ cm$^{-1}$ in agreement with the most recently reported experimental value, $70.937\ 589(23)(60)_\text{sys}$ cm$^{-1}$ [L. Nonadiabatic corrections in molecules composed of a few atoms are considered. It is demonstrated that a systematic perturbative expansion around the adiabatic solution is possible, with the expansion parameter being the electron-nucleus mass ratio to the power 3/4. Closed form formulae for the leading corrections to the wave function and to the energy are derived. Their applicability is demonstrated by a comparison of numerical results for the hydrogen molecule with the former nonadiabatic calculations and the experimental values. Good agreement with the recent experiment is achieved for the g…

This work identifies geometric effects on dynamics due to nonadiabatic couplings in Born Oppenheimer systems and provides a systematic method for deriving corrections to mixed quantum-classical methods. Specifically, an exact path integral formulation of the quantum nonadiabatic dynamics of Born Oppenheimer systems is described. Stationary phase approximations to the propagator for full quantum dynamics are derived. It is shown that quantum corrections to mixed quantum classical methods can be obtained through stationary phase approximations to the full quantum dynamics. A rigorous description…
We develop nonequilibribrium Green's function based transport theory, which includes effects of nonadiabatic nuclear motion in the calculation of the electric current in molecular junctions. Our approach is based on the separation of slow and fast timescales in the equations of motion for the Green's functions by means of the Wigner representation. Time derivatives with respect to central time serves as a small parameter in the perturbative expansion enabling the computation of nonadiabatic corrections to molecular Green's functions. Consequently, we produce series of analytic expressions for …
We present quantum electron transport theory that incorporates dynamical effects of motion of atoms on electrode-molecule interfaces in the calculations of the electric current. The theory is based on non-equilibrium Green's functions. We separate time scales in the Green's functions on fast relative time and slow central time. The derivative with respect to the central time serves as a small parameter in the theory. We solve the real-time Kadanoff-Baym equations for molecular Green's functions using Wigner representation and keep terms up to the second order with respect to the central time d…
We evaluate the shifts imparted to vibrational and rotational levels of a linear molecule by a nonresonant laser field at intensities of up to 10^12 W/cm^2. Both types of shift are found to be either positive or negative, depending on the initial rotational state acted upon by the field. An adiabatic field-molecule interaction imparts a rotational energy shift which is negative and exceeds the concomitant positive vibrational shift by a few orders of magnitude. The rovibrational states are thus pushed downward in such a field. A nonresonant pulsed laser field that interacts nonadiabatically wi…
Effect of the avoided crossing on the rovibrational energy levels, resonances, and predissociation lifetimes within the ground and first excited electronic states of lithium fluoride
Accurate line lists for three molecules, BeH, MgH and CaH, in their ground electronic states are presented. These line lists are suitable for temperatures relevant to exoplanetary atmospheres and cool stars (up to 2000K). A combination of empirical and \textit{ab initio} methods is used. The rovibrational energy levels of BeH, MgH and CaH are computed using the programs Level and DPotFit in conjunction with `spectroscopic' potential energy curves (PECs). The PEC of BeH is taken from the literature, while the PECs of CaH and MgH are generated by fitting to the experimental transition energy lev…
We perform model calculations for a stretched LiF molecule, demonstrating that nonadiabatic charge transfer effects can be accurately and seamlessly described within a density functional framework. In alkali halides like LiF, there is an abrupt change in the ground state electronic distribution due to an electron transfer at a critical bond length $R=R_c$, where a barely avoided crossing of the lowest adiabatic potential energy surfaces calls the validity of the Born-Oppenheimer approximation into doubt. Modeling the $R$-dependent electronic structure of LiF within a two-site Hubbard model, we…
The diagonal Born-Oppenheimer correction (DBOC) stems from the diagonal second derivative coupling term in the adiabatic representation, and it can have an arbitrary large magnitude when a gap between neighbouring Born-Oppenheimer (BO) potential energy surfaces (PESs) is closing. Nevertheless, DBOC is typically neglected in mixed quantum-classical methods of simulating nonadiabatic dynamics (e.g., fewest-switch surface hopping (FSSH) method). A straightforward addition of DBOC to BO PESs in the FSSH method, FSSH+D, has been shown to lead to numerically much inferior results for models containi…
Ultracold polar and magnetic ${}^{23}$Na${}^6$Li molecules in the rovibrational ground state of the lowest triplet $a^3Σ^+$ electronic state have been recently produced. Here, we calculate the electronic and rovibrational structure of these 14-electron molecules with spectroscopic accuracy ($<0.5\,$cm$^{-1}$) using state-of-the-art ab initio methods of quantum chemistry. We employ the hierarchy of the coupled-cluster wave functions and Gaussian basis sets extrapolated to the complete basis set limit. We show that the inclusion of higher-level excitations, core-electron correlation, relativisti…
While the treatment of conical intersections in molecular dynamics generally requires nonadiabatic approaches, the Born-Oppenheimer adiabatic approximation is still adopted as a valid alternative in certain circumstances. In the context of Mead-Truhlar minimal coupling, this paper presents a new closure of the nuclear Born-Oppenheimer equation, thereby leading to a molecular dynamics scheme capturing geometric phase effects. Specifically, a semiclassical closure of the nuclear Ehrenfest dynamics is obtained through a convenient prescription for the nuclear Bohmian trajectories. The conical int…
Characterising molecules for fundamental physics: an accurate spectroscopic model of methyltrioxorhenium derived from new infrared and millimetre-wave measurements
Duo is a general, user-friendly program for computing rotational, rovibrational and rovibronic spectra of diatomic molecules. Duo solves the Schrödinger equation for the motion of the nuclei not only for the simple case of uncoupled, isolated electronic states (typical for the ground state of closed-shell diatomics) but also for the general case of an arbitrary number and type of couplings between electronic states (typical for open-shell diatomics and excited states). Possible couplings include spin-orbit, angular momenta, spin-rotational and spin-spin. Corrections due to non-adiabatic effect…
