Conditionally on the Riemann hypothesis we prove asymptotic formulae for mean values of various long Dirichlet polynomials involving the von Mangoldt function. Our results avoid the use of correlation sum estimates although in addition to the Riemann hypothesis we must assume that our Dirichlet polynomials have weights from a specific class whose transforms are sufficiently concentrated near the origin. We also give large deviation estimates for these long Dirichlet polynomials.
Let $F(s)=\sum_{n=1}^{\infty}\frac{a_n}{n^s}$ be a Dirichlet series in the axiomatically defined class ${\mathfrak A}^{\#}$ . The class ${\mathfrak A}^{\#}$ is known to contain the extended Selberg class ${\mathcal S}^{\#}$, as well as all the $L$-functions of automorphic forms on $GL_n/K$, where $K$ is a number field. Let $d$ be the degree of $F(s)$. We show that $\sum_{n<X}|a_n|=Ω(X^{\frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{2d}})$, and hence, that the abscissa of absolute convergence of $σ_a$ of $F(s)$ must satisfy $σ_a\ge 1/2+1/2d$.
For certain sequences $A$ of positive integers with missing $g$-adic digits, the Dirichlet series $F_A(s) = \sum_{a\in A} a^{-s}$ has abscissa of convergence $σ_c < 1$. The number $σ_c$ is computed. This generalizes and strengthens a classical theorem of Kempner on the convergence of the sum of the reciprocals of a sequence of integers with missing decimal digits.
We prove joint universality theorems on the half plane of absolute convergence for general classes of Dirichlet series with an Euler-product, where in addition to vertical shifts we also allow scaling. This generalizes our recent joint universality results for Dirichlet $L$-functions. In contrast to classical universality, we do not need that the Dirichlet series in question have an analytic continuation beyond their region of absolute convergence. Also we may allow weaker orthogonality conditions for pairs of Dirichlet series than in the previous joint universality results of Lee-Nakamura-Pań…
