Metrics obtained by integrating within the generalised invariant formalism are structured around their intrinsic coordinates, and this considerably simplifies their invariant classification and symmetry analysis. We illustrate this by presenting a simple and transparent complete invariant classification of the conformally flat pure radiation metrics (except plane waves) in such intrinsic coordinates; in particular we confirm that the three apparently non-redundant functions of one variable are genuinely non-redundant, and easily identify the subclasses which admit a Killing and/or a homothetic Killing vector. Most of our results agree with the earlier classification carried out by Skea in the different Koutras-McIntosh coordinates, which required much more involved calculations; but there are some subtle differences. Therefore, we also rework the classification in the Koutras-McIntosh coordinates, and by paying attention to some of the subtleties involving arbitrary functions, we are able to obtain complete agreement with the results obtained in intrinsic coordinates. In particular, we have corrected and completed statements and results by Edgar and Vickers, and by Skea, about the orders of Cartan invariants at which particular information becomes available.
It is known that the standard Schwarzschild interior metric is conformally flat and generates a constant density sphere in any spacetime dimension in Einstein and Einstein--Gauss--Bonnet gravity. This motivates the questions: In EGB does the conformal flatness criterion yield the Schwarzschild metric? Does the assumption of constant density generate the Schwarzschild interior spacetime? The answer to both questions turn out in the negative in general. In the case of the constant density sphere, a generalised Schwarzschild metric emerges. When we invoke the conformal flatness condition the Schw…
The collapse scenario of a scalar field along with a perfect fluid distribution is investigated for a conformally flat spacetime. The theorem for the integrability of an anharmonic oscillator has been utilized. For a pure power law potential of the form $ϕ^{n+1}$, it is found that a central singularity is formed which is covered by an apparent horizon for $n>0$ and $n<-3$. Some numerical results have also been presented for a combination of two different powers of $ϕ$ in the potential.
A system of equations that serves as a model for the Einstein field equation in generalised harmonic gauge called the good-bad-ugly system is studied in the region close to null and spatial infinity in Minkowski spacetime. This analysis is performed using H. Friedrich's cylinder construction at spatial infinity and defining suitable conformally rescaled fields. The results are translated to the physical set up to investigate the relation between the polyhomogeneous expansions arising from the analysis of linear fields using the $i^0$-cylinder framework and those obtained through a heuristic me…
The extraordinary energetic activity of magnetars is usually explained in terms of dissipation of a huge internal magnetic field of the order of $10^{15-16}$G. How such a strong magnetic field can originate during the formation of a neutron star is still subject of active research. An important role can be played by fast rotation: if magnetars are born as millisecond rotators dynamo mechanisms may efficiently amplify the magnetic field inherited from the progenitor star during the collapse. In this case, the combination of rapid rotation and strong magnetic field determine the right physical c…
The multi-messenger observations of the merger event in GW170817 did not rule out the possibility that the remnant might be a dynamically stable neutron star with $\mathcal{M}_{rm}\geq 2.69 \,\mathcal{M}_{\odot}.$ Based on this and other recent events, I argue that the universal maximum density hypothesis should be revived. Accordingly, the central densities in the cores of ultra-compact objects must be upper-limited by the critical density number $n_{cr},$ beyond which supradense nuclear matter becomes purely incompressible. Based on the spacetime-matter coupling in GR, it is shown that the t…
In this paper we deal with quadratic metric-affine gravity, which we briefly introduce, explain and give historical and physical reasons for using this particular theory of gravity. Further, we introduce a generalisation of well known spacetimes, namely pp-waves. A classical pp-wave is a 4-dimensional Lorentzian spacetime, which admits a nonvanishing parallel spinor field; here the connection is assumed to be Levi-Civita. This definition was generalised in our previous work to metric compatible spacetimes with torsion and used to construct new explicit vacuum solutions of quadratic metric-affi…
We consider the pure electric type power-law Lagrangian in nonlinear electrodynamics theory of dimensions $n+1$. Conformally flat form of Bertotti-Robinson type spacetimes are obtained in all these dimensions with the specific power $s=-\frac{1}{n-4},$which naturally excludes $n=4.$ This particular dimension is considered separately which is not of power-law form.

The geometric concept of geodesic completeness depends on the choice of the metric field or "metric frame". We develop a frame-invariant concept of "generalised geodesic completeness" or "time completeness". It is based on the notion of physical time defined by counting oscillations for some physically allowed process. Oscillating solutions of wave functions for particles with varying mass permit the derivation of generalised geodesics and the associated notion of completeness. Time completeness involves aspects of particle physics and is no longer a purely geometric concept.
Using purely geometrical methods we present a mechanism to solve the scalar field equations of motion (non-minimally coupled with gravity) in a spherically symmetric background. We found that the \emph{full }set of spacetimes, which are of Petrov type O (conformally flat) and admit a \emph{gradient} Conformal Vector Field, can be determined completely. It is shown that the full group of scalar field equations reduced to a \emph{single} equation that depends only on the distance $w=r^{2}-t^{2}$ leaving the metric function (equivalently the functional form of the scalar field or the potential) f…
We provide a unified treatment of conformally soft Goldstone modes which arise when spin-one or spin-two conformal primary wavefunctions become pure gauge for certain integer values of the conformal dimension $Δ$. This effort lands us at the crossroads of two ongoing debates about what the appropriate conformal basis for celestial CFT is and what the asymptotic symmetry group of Einstein gravity at null infinity should be. Finite energy wavefunctions are captured by the principal continuous series $Δ\in 1+i\mathbb{R}$ and form a complete basis. We show that conformal primaries with analyticall…
We obtain a constraint on cosmological scalars for the FRW metric with a pure radiation fluid source and positive cosmological constant. We demonstrate that this constraint is conformally invariant in the context of Penrose's Conformal Cyclic Cosmology proposal, where the metrics of the late stages of the previous aeon and the early stages of the present aeon are described by FRW cosmologies.
