Giant magnons and spiky strings on the conifold

We find explicit solutions for giant magnons and spiky strings on the squashed three dimensional sphere. For a special value of the squashing parameter the solutions describe strings moving in a sector of the conifold, while for another value of the squashing parameter we recover the known results on the round three dimensional sphere. A new feature is that the energy and the momenta enter in the dispersion relation of the conifold in a transcendental way.

Giant Magnons and Spiky Strings on S^3 with B-field

We study solutions for a rotating string on S^3 with a background NS-NS B-field and show the existence of spiky string and giant magnon as two limiting solutions. We make a connection to the sine-Gordon model via the Polyakov worldsheet action and study the effect of B-field. In particular, we find the magnon solution can be mapped to the excitation of a fractional spin chain. We conjecture a B-deformed SYM to be the gauge theory dual to this background.

Giant magnons and spiky strings in the Schrodinger/dipole-deformed CFT correspondence

We construct semi-classical string solutions of the Schrödinger $Sch_5 \times S^5$ spacetime, which is conjectured to be the gravity dual of a non-local dipole-deformed CFT. They are the counterparts of the giant magnon and spiky string solutions of the undeformed $AdS_5 \times S^5$ to which they flow when the deformation parameter is turned off. They live in an $S^3$ subspace of the five-sphere along the directions of which the $B$-field has non-zero components having also extent in the $Sch_5$ part of the metric. Finally, we speculate on the form of the dual field theory operators.

Spiky Strings, Giant Magnons and beta-deformations

We study rigid string solutions rotating on the S^3 subspace of the beta-deformed AdS_5xS^5 background found by Lunin and Maldacena. For particular values of the parameters of the solutions we find the known giant magnon and single spike strings. We present a single spike string solution on the deformed S^3 and find how the deformation affects the dispersion relation. The possible relation of this string solution to spin chains and the connection of the solutions on the undeformed S^3 to the sine-Gordon model are briefly discussed.

Spiky strings and giant magnons on S5

Recently, classical solutions for strings moving in AdS5 x S5 have played an important role in understanding the AdS/CFT correspondence. A large set of them were shown to follow from an ansatz that reduces the solution of the string equations of motion to the study of a well-known integrable 1-d system known as the Neumann-Rosochatius (NR) system. However, other simple solutions such as spiky strings or giant magnons in S5 were not included in the NR ansatz. Giant Magnons under NS-NS and Melvin Fields

The giant magnon is a rotating spiky string configuration which has the same dispersion relation between the energy and angular momentum as that of a spin magnon. In this paper we investigate the effects of the NS-NS and Melvin fields on the giant magnon. We first analyze the energy and angular momenta of the two-spin spiky D-string moving on the $AdS_3\times S^1$ with the NS-NS field. Spiky Strings on AdS(4) X CP**3

We study a giant magnon and a spike solution for the string rotating on AdS(4) X CP**3 geometry. We consider rigid rotating fundamental string in the SU(2) X SU(2) sector inside the CP**3 and find out the general form of all the conserved charges. We find out the dispersion relation corresponding to both the known giant magnon and the new spike solutions. We further study the finite size correction in both cases.

Spiky Strings in AdS(4) X CP**3 with Neveu-Schwarz Flux

We study general rotating string solution in the AdS(4) X CP**3 background with a B_NS holonomy turned on over ${\bf CP}^1$ $\subset $ $ {\bf CP}^3$. We find the giant magnon and single spike solutions for the string moving in this background corresponding to open spin chain. We calculate the corresponding dispersion relation among various conserved charges for both the cases. We further study the finite size effect on both the giant magnon and single spike solutions.

Spiky strings on AdS3 x S3 with NS-NS flux

We study rigidly rotating strings in the background of AdS3 x S3 with Neveu-Schwarz (NS) fluxes. We find two interesting limiting cases corresponding to the known giant magnon and the new single spike solution of strings in the above background and write down the dispersion relations among various conserved charges. We use proper regularization to find the correct relations among them. We further study the circular and infinite spiky strings on AdS and study their properties.

Spiky Strings on I-brane

We study rigidly rotating strings in the near horizon geometry of the 1+1 dimensional intersection of two orthogonal stacks of NS5-branes, the so called I-brane background. We solve the equations of motion of the fundamental string action in the presence of two form NS-NS fluxes that the I-brane background supports and write down general form of conserved quantities. We further find out two limiting cases corresponding to giant magnon and single spike like strings in various parameter space of solutions.

On the multi-spin magnon and spike solutions from membranes

Recently important classes of solitonic string solutions were obtained - giant magnons and single spikes. In previous study we showed the existence of giant magnon-like membrane solutions and studied their properties. Strings on the deformed T^{1,1}: giant magnon and single spike solutions

In this paper we find giant magnon and single spike string solutions in a sector of the gamma-deformed conifold. We examine the dispersion relations and find a behavior analogous to the undeformed case. The transcendental functional relations between the conserved charges are shifted by certain gamma-dependent term. The latter is proportional to the total momentum and thus qualitatively different from known cases.

Giant Spinons

We study the spectrum around the "antiferromagnetic" states of the planar AdS_5/CFT_4 duality. In contrast to the familiar large-spin limit J \to \infty where each magnon momentum scales as p \sim 1/J << 1, we consider a novel "large-winding" limit in which the total momentum becomes infinitely large, \sum_j p_j \to \infty. Divergent energy strings in $AdS_5\times S^5$ with three angular momenta

In this paper, novel solutions for strings with three angular momenta in $AdS_5 \times S^5$ geometry are presented; the divergent energy limit and the corresponding conserved charges, as well as dispersion relation are also determined. Spiky strings and the AdS/CFT correspondence

We first focus on the finite-gap formalism for type IIB strings in AdS_3 x S^1, which allows to encode the semiclassical spectrum of a very large family of string solutions in a Riemann surface, the spectral curve. Then, we show that, in the large angular momentum limit, it separates into two distinct surfaces, allowing the derivation of an explicit expression for the spectrum, which is correspondingly characterised by two separate branches. More on Schrödinger holography

We find explicit solutions for giant magnons and spiky strings living on the Schrödinger $Schr_5 \times T^{1,1}$ and compute dispersion relations. The holographic dual field theory is conjectured to be a non-local dipole-deformed CFT at strong coupling. We find that the dependence between conserved charges in the dispersion relations is transcendental, which is quite different from the most symmetric case of spherical internal space. Keeping the squashing parameter $b$ general allows us to take some limits and to compare our results to known cases.
