We study the chiral logarithms in $ΔS=1$ kaon decay amplitudes from new flavor physics in beyond-standard-model theories. We systematically classify the chiral structures of dimension-5, 6 and 7 effective QCD operators constructed out of light-quark (up, down and strange) and gluon fields. Using the standard chiral perturbation theory, we calculate the leading chiral-logarithms associated with these operators. The result is useful for lattice calculations of the QCD matrix elements in $K\to ππ$ decay necessary, for example, to understand the physical origin of the direct CP violation parameter $ε'$. As a concrete example, we consider the new operators present in minimal left-right symmetric models.
The kaon to pion ratios are discussed in the framework of a 2+1 flavor PNJL model. In order to interpret the behaviour of bound states in medium the Beth-Uhlenbeck approach is used. It is shown that in terms of phase shifts in the K+ channel an additional low-energy mode could appear as a bound state in medium since the masses of the quark constituents are different. The comparison with experimental data for the ratios is performed and the influence of the anomalous mode to the "horn" effect in the K+/pi+ ratio is discussed.
We consider a U(5)-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with flavor-dependent couplings constants obtained from quark-antiquark polarization to investigate the role of the heavy quarks for light constituent quarks and mesons. A quantum mixing, due to the different representations of the flavor group needed to defined quarks and mesons, lead to charm and beauty sea quark contributions to properties of the light quark sector. For a given fitting procedure for the parameters of the model, the charm and beauty quark effective masses are freely varied from very small values to very large values (infinite). The…
Twist-3 pion and kaon distribution amplitudes from the instanton vacuum with flavor SU(3) symmetry breaking
We investigate the twist-3 pion and kaon distribution amplitudes of the pseudoscalar (phi^ p_{pi,K} ) and pseudotensor (phi^{sigma}_{pi,K}) types, based on the effective chiral action from the instanton vacuum. Effects of flavor SU(3) symmetry breaking are explicitly taken into account. The Gegenbauer moments and the moments of the distribution amplitudes (<xi^m>) are also computed. Our results are summarized as follows: a^ p_{2,pi} ~ 0.4, a^ p_{1,K} ~ 0.02 and a^ p_{2,K} ~ 0.14, and a^{sigma}_{2,pi} ~ 0.02 and a^{sigma}_{1,K} ~ a^{sigma}_{2,K} ~ 0; <xi^2>^p_π ~ <xi^2>^p_K ~ 0.37 and <xi>^p_K …
We present the first lattice-QCD calculation of the kaon distribution amplitude using the large-momentum effective theory (LaMET) approach. The momentum-smearing technique has been implemented to improve signals at large meson momenta. We subtract the power divergence due to Wilson line to high precision using multiple lattice spacings. The kaon structure clearly shows an asymmetry of the distribution amplitude around $x=1/2$, a clear sign of its skewness. We also study the leading SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking relations for the pion, kaon and eta meson distribution amplitudes, and the result…
In this work we study possible connections between $B$-meson anomalies and Kaon physics observables in the context of combined solutions with the singlet and triplet scalar leptoquarks $S_1$ and $S_3$. By assuming a flavor structure for the leptoquark couplings dictated by a minimally broken $U(2)^5$ flavor symmetry we can make a sharp connection between these two classes of observables. We find that the bound on $\mathcal{B}(K^+ \rightarrow π^+ νν)$ from NA62 puts already some tension in the model, while the present limits on $\mathcal{B}(K_L \rightarrow μ^+ μ^-)$ and $μ\to e$ conversion in n…
Recently, several anomalies in flavor physics have been observed, and it was noticed that leptoquarks might account for the deviations from the Standard Model. In this work, we examine the effects of new physics originating from a scalar leptoquark model on the kaon sector. The leptoquark we consider is a TeV-scale particle and within the reach of the LHC. We use the existing experimental data on the several kaon processes including $K^{0}-\bar{K}^{0}$ mixing, rare decays $K^{+} \rightarrow π^{+} ν\barν$, $ K_L \rightarrow π^0 ν\barν$, short-distance part of $K_L\rightarrow μ^{+}μ^{-}$, and le…
Recent anomalies in the decays of $B$ mesons and the Higgs boson provide hints towards lepton flavor (universality) violating physics beyond the Standard Model. We observe that four-fermion operators which can explain the $B$-physics anomalies have corresponding analogs in the kaon sector, and we analyze their impact on $K\toπ\ell \ell'$ and $K\to\ell \ell'$ decays $(\ell=μ,e)$. For these processes, we note the corresponding physics opportunities at the NA62 experiment. In particular, assuming minimal flavor violation, we comment on the required improvements in sensitivity necessary to test th…
Kaon vs. Bottom: Where to look for a general MSSM?

Multiple scattering and induced parton splitting lead to a medium modification of the QCD evolution for jet fragmentation functions and the final hadron spectra. Medium-induced parton splittings not only lead to energy loss of leading partons and suppression of leading hadron spectra, but also modify the flavor composition of a jet due to induced flavor conversion via gluon emission, quark pair production and annihilation. Through a numerical study of the medium-modified QCD evolution, leading $K^-$ strange meson spectra are found to be particularly sensitive to the induced flavor conversion i…
Proton decay and new contribution to neutrino-less double beta decay in SO(10) with low-mass Z-prime boson, observable n-nbar oscillation, lepton flavor violation, and rare kaon decay
Based on our analysis of the contributions from the connected and disconnected contraction diagrams to the pion-kaon scattering amplitude, we provide the first determination of the only free low-energy constant at $\mathcal{O}(p^4)$, known as $L_0^r$, in SU$(4|1)$ Partially-Quenched Chiral Perturbation Theory using the data from the Extended Twisted Mass Collaboration, $L_0^r(μ=M_ρ) = 0.77(20)(25)(7)(7)(2)\cdot 10^{-3}$. The theory uncertainties originate from the unphysical scattering length, the physical low-energy constants, the higher-oder chiral corrections, the (lattice) meson masses and…
We study the vector and axial-vector form factors of radiative kaon decay within the framework of the gauged nonlocal effective chiral action from the instanton vacuum, focusing on the effects of flavor SU(3) symmetry breaking. The general tendency of the results are rather similar to those of radiative pion decays: The nonlocal contributions make the results of the vector form factor increased by about $20\,\%$, whereas they reduce those of the axial-vector form factor by almost $30\,\%$. Suppressing the prefactors consisting of the kaon mass and the pion decay constant, we scrutinize how the…
We present an overview of searches fo violation of lepton flavor universality with focus on low energy precision probes using pions, kaons, tau leptons, and nuclear beta decays. The current experimental results are reviewed, the theoretical status within the context of the Standard Model is summarized, and future prospects (both experimental and theoretical) are discussed. We review the implications of these measurements for physics beyond the Standard Model by performing a global model-independent fit to modified $W$ couplings to leptons and four-fermion operators. We also discuss new physics…
We present our analysis on the valence quark distribution functions of the $K^{+}$ meson, $v^{K (u)} (x, Q^2)$ and $v^{K (\bar{s})} (x, Q^2)$, taking into account the meson cloud effects in the framework of the chiral constituent quark model. Assuming appropriate bare quark distribution functions at the initial scale, evaluating the Goldstone boson dressing corrections with the model, and performing the QCD evolution, one can obtain the realistic dressed distributions at a certain scale. The phenomenologically satisfactory valence quark distribution of the pion was obtained in the previous stu…
We examine the relevance of the heavy quarks masses in the perturbative QCD description of hard interactions where charged kaons are produced in the final state. We extract a set of parton-to-kaon hadronization probabilities from a next to leading order QCD global analysis where a general mass variable flavor number scheme accounting for mass effects is implemented. We compare the results with those obtained in the massless approximation and also with those found in the case of final state pions. At variance with the very significant improvement found for the much more precise pion fragmentati…
Tagged kaon beams are attractive neutrino sources, which would provide flavor pure $ν_e$-beams with exactly measured normalization. We point out that this also leads to an anti-tagged flavor pure $ν_μ$-beam, with equally well known normalization. Exposing a 1 kt liquid argon detector at a baseline of 1 km to this combination of unique beams allows to decisively test recent indications by IceCube and Neutrino-4 of sterile neutrino oscillations in the multi-eV range.
We consider three-flavor chiral perturbation theory ($χ$PT) at zero temperature and nonzero isospin ($μ_{I}$) and strange ($μ_{S}$) chemical potentials. The effective potential is calculated to next-to-leading order (NLO) in the $π^{\pm}$-condensed phase, the $K^{\pm}$-condensed phase, and the $K^0/\bar{K}^0$-condensed phase. It is shown that the transitions from the vacuum phase to these phases are second order and take place when, $|μ_I|=m_π$, $|{1\over2}μ_I+μ_S|=m_K$, and $|-{1\over2}μ_I+μ_S|=m_K$, respectively at tree level and remains unchanged at NLO. The transition between the two conde…
We compute the distribution amplitudes of the pion and kaon in the light-front constituent quark model with the symmetric quark-bound state vertex function. In the calculation we explicitly include the flavor-SU(3) symmetry breaking effect in terms of the constituent quark masses of the up (down) and strange quarks. To calculate the kaon parton distribution functions~(PDFs), we use both the conditions in the light-cone wave function, i.e., when $\bar{s}$ quark is on-shell, and when $u$ quark is on-shell, and make a comparison between them. The kaon PDFs calculated in the two different conditio…
A sterile neutrino at GeV mass scale is of particular interest in this work. Though not take part in neutrino oscillation, the sterile neutrino can induce flavor violating semileptonic and leptonic decay of $K, D$ and $B$ mesons. We calculated a box diagram contribution in these processes. By making use of current experiment limit of lepton flavor violating decays $M^+_h\to M_l^+\ell_1^+\ell_2^-$ and $M^0\to \ell_1^-\ell_2^+$, we explore the allowed parameter space of $U_{e4}$ and $U_{μ4}$ in different mass ranges. Generally speaking, both channels give a limit to the product of $U_{e4}$ and $…
We explore the idea of higher-order flavor sum rules, i.e. sum rules that hold to higher orders in the flavor symmetry-breaking parameters. In particular, we consider isospin sum rules based on $B \to nπ$ decays, and U-spin sum rules based on $B_d$ and $B_s$ decays to $n$ charged pions and/or kaons. We also demonstrate that sum rules exist to arbitrary orders by considering decay modes with increasing number of final state mesons $n$. Finally, we identify various theoretical and practical issues that need to be addressed in utilizing these sum rules.
