We present a mathematical structure which unifies mathematical structures of general relativity and quantum mechanics. It consists of the noncommutative algebra of compactly supported, complex valued functions ${\mathcal A}$, with convolution as multiplication, on a groupoid $Γ$ the base of which is the total space $E$ of the frame bundle over space-time $M$. A differential geometry based on derivations of ${\mathcal A}$ suitably generalizes the standard differential geometry of space-time, and the algebra ${\mathcal A}$, when represented in a bundle of Hilbert spaces, defines a von Neumann algebra ${\mathcal M}$ of random operators that generalizes the usual quantum mechanics. The main result of the present paper is that there exists a space ${\mathcal M_0}$, dense in ${\mathcal M}$, that is isomorphic with the algebra ${\mathcal A}$. This isomorphism allows us to transfer all differentially geometric constructions, generalized Einstein's equations including, made with the help of ${\mathcal A}$ (and its derivations) to the space ${\mathcal M_0}$. In this way, we obtain a generalization of general relativity in terms of random operators on a bundle of Hilbert spaces. However, this generalization cannot be extended to the whole of ${\mathcal M}$, and this is the main mathematical obstacle, at least in this approach, to fully unify theory of gravity with physics of quanta.
BiGONLight, Bi-local Geodesic Operators framework for Numerical Light propagation, is a new tool for light propagation in Numerical Relativity. The package implements the Bi-local Geodesic Operators formalism, a new framework for light propagation in General Relativity. With BiGONLight it is possible to extract observables such as angular diameter distance, luminosity distance, magnification as well as new real-time observables like parallax and redshift drift within the same computation. As test-bed for our code we consider two cosmological models, the $Λ$CDM and the inhomogeneous Szekeres mo…
This paper reframes Riemannian geometry as a generalized Lie algebra allowing the equations of both RG and then General Relativity to be expressed as commutation relations among fundamental operators. We begin with an Abelian Lie algebra of n operators, X, whose simultaneous eigenvalues, y, define a real n-dimensional space. Then with n new operators defined as independent functions, we define contravariant and covariant tensors in terms of their eigenvalues, on a Hilbert space representation. We then define n additional operators, D, whose exponential map is to translate X as defined by a non…
Finite Difference Methods for Second Order in Space, First Order in Time Hyperbolic Systems and the Linear Shifted Wave Equation as a Model Problem in Numerical Relativity
We give a justification for generalizing the notion of the energy momentum stress tensor in general relativity which results in the Jacobi curvature tensor being the embodiment of total energy momentum stress including gravity in general relativity.
We consider the standard problem of observational astronomy, i.e. the observations of light emission from a distant region of spacetime in general relativity. The goal is to describe the changes between the measurements of the light performed by a sample of observers slightly displaced with respect to each other and moving with different 4-velocities and 4-accelerations. In our approach, all results of observations can be expressed as functions of the kinematic variables, describing the motions of the observers and the emitting bodies with respect to their local inertial frames, and four linea…
Canonical quantization of general relativity does not yield a unique quantum theory for gravity. This is in part due to operator ordering ambiguities. In this paper, we investigate the role of different operator orderings on the question of whether a big bang or big crunch singularity occurs. We do this in the context of the minisuperspace model of a Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker universe with Brown-Kuchar dust. We find that for a certain class of operator orderings such a singularity is eliminated without having to impose boundary conditions.
We give the most general conditions to date which lead to uniqueness of the general relativistic Hamiltonian. Namely, we show that all spatially covariant generalizations of the scalar constraint which extend the standard one while remaining quadratic in the momenta are second class. Unlike previous investigations along these lines, we do not require a specific Poisson bracket algebra, and the quadratic dependence on the momenta is completely general, with an arbitrary local operator as the kinetic term.
The recent direct observation of gravitational waves (GW) from merging black holes opens up the possibility of exploring the theory of gravity in the strong regime at an unprecedented level. It is therefore interesting to explore which extensions to General Relativity (GR) could be detected. We construct an Effective Field Theory (EFT) satisfying the following requirements. It is testable with GW observations; it is consistent with other experiments, including short distance tests of GR; it agrees with widely accepted principles of physics, such as locality, causality and unitarity; and it doe…
We construct a graded Lie algebra $\mathcal{E}$ in which the Maurer-Cartan equation is equivalent to the vacuum Einstein equations. The gauge groupoid is the groupoid of rank 4 real vector bundles with a conformal inner product, over a 4-dimensional base manifold, and the graded Lie algebra construction is a functor out of this groupoid. As usual, each Maurer-Cartan element in $\mathcal{E}^1$ yields a differential on $\mathcal{E}$. Its first homology is linearized gravity about that element. We introduce a gauge-fixing algorithm that generates, for each gauge object $G$, a contraction to a muc…
In 5D relativity, the usual 4D cosmological constant is determined by the extra dimension. If the extra dimension is spacelike, one can get a positive cosmological constant $Λ$ and a 4D de Sitter (dS) space. In this paper we present that, if the extra dimension is timelike oppositely, the negative $Λ$ will be emerged and the induced 4D space will be an asymptotic Anti-de Sitter (AdS). Under the minimum assumption, we solve the Kaluza-Klein equation $R_{AB} = 0$ in a canonical system and obtain the AdS solution in a general case. The result shows that an AdS space is induced naturally from a Ka…
