Whenever and wherever one talks of dark matter, one does so when and where there is a luminous matter and a dynamical issue to be settled. We promote this observation to the status of an axiom and assume that there is a dark companion to every luminous matter and there are orders to this companionship. To pursue the proposition in a formal and quantitative manner, we consider the anomalous rotation curves of spiral galaxies. From the available observations, we infer the gravitational potential prevailing in the outer parts of the galaxy and, thereof, construct the tt- component of the metric of the embedding spacetime. Next we examine a perfect fluid candidate as the dark companion and solve the relevant GR equations. We are able to determine the strength and the distribution of the dark fluid that accompanies a point baryonic mass. Finally, we argue that the whole paradigm can be explained just as well in terms of an alternative theory.

The gravitational production of superheavy dark matter is studied in the context of quintessential inflation. The superheavy particles, whose decay products are baryonic matter and are the responsible for the reheating of the universe after the end of the inflationary period, are not conformally coupled with gravity. On the contrary, dark matter is assumed to be conformally coupled with gravity. We show that the viability of these scenarios requires the mass of the superheavy dark matter to be greater than 8 x 10^{15} GeV.
We study the Jeans gravitational instability for a mixture of baryonic and dark matter particles, in the post-Newtonian approximation. We adopt a kinetic model consisting of a coupled system of post-Newtonian collisionless Boltzmann equations, for each species, coupled to the post-Newtonian Poisson equations. We derive the stability criterion, accounting for both post-Newtonian corrections and the presence of dark matter. It is shown that both effects give rise to smaller Jeans masses, in comparison with the standard Jeans criterion, meaning that a smaller mass is needed to begin the gravitati…
Square-torsion gravity is applied to the long standing dark matter problem. In this context the theory reduces to General Relativity complemented by a dark stress-energy tensor due to the torsion of spacetime and is studied under the simplifying assumption of spherical symmetry. The dark stress-energy tensor is found to satisfy an anisotropic structure equation. In vacuum this is shown to be equivalent to a wave equation with sources. A natural class of exact solutions is found which explicitly perturbs any seed spacetime metric by a conformal factor satisfying a (1+1)-dimensional wave equatio…
In this paper we construct a black hole solution surrounded by superfluid dark matter (BH-SFDM) and baryonic matter, and study their effects on the shadow images of the Sgr A$^{*}$ black hole. To achieve this goal, we have considered two density profiles for the baryonic matter described by the spherical exponential profile and the power law profile including a special case describing a totally dominated dark matter galaxy (TDDMG). Using the present values for the parameters of the superfluid dark matter and baryonic density profiles for the Sgr A$^{*}$ black hole, we find that the effects of …
In this paper, we examine a scenario in which late-time cosmic acceleration might arise due to the coupling between baryonic matter and dark matter without the presence of extra degrees of freedom. In this case, one can obtain late-time acceleration in Jordan frame and not in Einstein frame. We consider two different forms of parametrization of the coupling function, and put constraints on the model parameters by using an integrated datasets of Hubble parameter, Type Ia supernova and baryon acoustic oscillations. The models under consideration are consistent with the observations. In addition,…
A massive star undergoes a continual gravitational collapse when the pressures inside the collapsing star become insufficient to balance the pull of gravity. The Physics of gravitational collapse of stars is well studied. Using general relativistic techniques one can show that the final fate of such a catastrophic collapse can be a black hole or a naked singularity, depending upon the initial conditions of gravitational collapse. While stars are made of baryonic matter whose collapse is well studied, there is good indirect evidence that another type of matter, known as dark matter, plays an im…
We study the effect of baryonic matter and apparent dark matter on black hole shadow in Verlinde's Emergent Gravity. To do so, we consider different baryonic mass profiles and an optically-thin disk region described by a gas in a radial free fall around the black hole. Assuming that most of the baryonic matter in the galaxy is located near the galactic center surrounding a supermassive black hole, we use two models of power law mass profile for the baryonic matter to study the effect of apparent dark matter on the shadow and the corresponding intensity. We find that the effect of the surroundi…
We consider the effects of an uncorrelated random potential on the properties of Bose-Einstein Condensate (BEC) dark matter halos, which acts as a source of disorder, and which is added as a new term in the Gross-Pitaevskii equation, describing the properties of the halo. By using the hydrodynamic representation we derive the basic equation describing the density distribution of the galactic dark matter halo, by also taking into account the effects of the baryonic matter, and of the rotation. The density, mass and tangential velocity profiles are obtained exactly in spherical symmetry by consi…
We consider a dark matter halo (DMH) of a spherical galaxy as a Bose-Einstein condensate of the ultra-light axions interacting with the baryonic matter. In the mean-field limit, we have derived the integro-differential equation of the Hartree-Fock type for the spherically symmetrical wave function of the DMH component. This equation includes two independent dimensionless parameters: (i) \b{eta}- the ratio of baryon and axion total mases and (ii) ξ- the ratio of characteristic baryon and axion spatial parameters. We extended our dissipation algorithm for studying numerically the ground state of…
