In this paper, we examine a scenario in which late-time cosmic acceleration might arise due to the coupling between baryonic matter and dark matter without the presence of extra degrees of freedom. In this case, one can obtain late-time acceleration in Jordan frame and not in Einstein frame. We consider two different forms of parametrization of the coupling function, and put constraints on the model parameters by using an integrated datasets of Hubble parameter, Type Ia supernova and baryon acoustic oscillations. The models under consideration are consistent with the observations. In addition, we perform the statefinder and $Om$ diagnostics, and show that the models exhibit a distinctive behavior due to the phantom characteristic in future which is a generic feature of the underlying scenario.
We test the Grumiller's quantum motivated modified gravity model, which at large distances modifies the Newtonian potential and describes the galactic rotation curves of disk galaxies in terms of a Rindler acceleration term without the need of any dark matter, against the baryonic Tully-Fisher feature that relates the total baryonic mass of a galaxy with flat rotation velocity of the galaxy. We estimate the Rindler acceleration parameter from observed baryonic mass versus rotation velocity data of a sample of sixty galaxies. Grumiller's model is found to describe the observed data reasonably w…
The equation of motion in the generally covariant modified gravity (MOG) theory leads for weak gravitational fields and the non-relativistic limit to a modification of the Newtonian gravitational acceleration law, expressed in terms of two parameters $α$ and $μ$. The parameter $α$ determines the strength of the gravitational field and $μ$ is the effective mass of the vector field $ϕ_μ$, coupled with gravitational strength to baryonic matter. The MOG acceleration law for weak field gravitation and non-relativistic particles has been demonstrated to fit a wide range of galaxies, galaxy clusters …
A nonminimally coupled quintessence dark energy in teleparallel model of gravity is considered. It is clarified how a matter dominated universe with initial negligible dark energy density can evolve to a late time de Sitter space-time via the $Z_2$ symmetry breaking.
A gravitational theory with derivative matter coupling is proposed which adopt de Sitter expansion at late times with ordinary baryonic matter. Matter components are conserved separately in the cosmological background and the Newtonian limit is well behaved. Also Conformal transformation of the theory to Jordan frame showing an effective cosmological constant explaining the nature of de Sitter acceleration.
We describe scalar-bimetric theories where the dynamics of the Universe are governed by two separate metrics, each with an Einstein-Hilbert term. In this setting, the baryonic and dark matter components of the Universe couple to metrics which are constructed as functions of these two gravitational metrics. The scalar field, contrary to dark energy models, does not have a potential whose role is to mimic a late-time cosmological constant. The late-time acceleration of the expansion of the Universe can be easily obtained at the background level in these models by appropriately choosing the coupl…
Design of the magnetic diagnostics unit onboard LISA Pathfinder
LISA(Laser Interferometer Space Antenna)是欧空局和美国宇航局(NASA)的一项联合任务,旨在成为第一个星载引力波观测站。
Modified Newtonian Dynamics has one free parameter and requires an interpolation function to recover the normal Newtonian limit. We here show that this interpolation function is unnecessary in a recently proposed covariant completion of Erik Verlinde's emergent gravity, and that Verlinde's approach moreover fixes the function's one free parameter. The so-derived correlation between the observed acceleration (inferred from rotation curves) and the gravitational acceleration due to merely the baryonic matter fits well with data. We then argue that the redshift-dependence of galactic rotation cur…
We investigate the emergent laws of gravity when Dark Energy and the de Sitter space-time are modelled as a critical Bose-Einstein condensate of a large number of soft gravitons $N_{\rm G}$. We argue that this scenario requires the presence of various regimes of gravity in which $N_{\rm G}$ scales in different ways. Moreover, the local gravitational interaction affecting baryonic matter can be naturally described in terms of gravitons pulled out from this Dark Energy condensate (DEC). We then explain the additional component of the acceleration at galactic scales, commonly attributed to dark m…
We study three interacting dark energy models within the framework of four-dimensional General Relativity and a spatially flat Universe. In particular, we first consider two vacuum models where dark energy interacts with dark matter, while relativistic matter as well as baryons are treated as non-interacting fluid components. Secondly, we investigate a third model where the gravitational coupling is assumed to be a slowly-varying function of the Hubble rate and dark energy and dark matter interact as well. We compute the statefinders parameters versus red-shift as well as the critical points a…
In this letter, we study the cosmological dynamics of steeper potential than exponential. Our analysis shows that a simple extension of an exponential potential allows to capture late-time cosmic acceleration and retain the tracker behavior. We also perform statefinder and $Om$ diagnostics to distinguish dark energy models among themselves and with $Λ$CDM. In addition, to put the observational constraints on the model parameters, we modify the publicly available CosmoMC code and use an integrated data base of baryon acoustic oscillation, latest Type Ia supernova from Joint Light Curves sample …
The Scale-Invariant Vacuum (SIV) theory is based on Weyl's Integrable Geometry, endowed with a gauge scalar field. The main difference between MOND and the SIV theory is that the first considers a global dilatation invariance of space and time, where the scale factor $λ$ is a constant, while the second opens the likely possibility that $λ$ is a function of time. The key equations of the SIV framework are used here to study the relationship between the Newtonian gravitational acceleration due to baryonic matter $g_{\mathrm{bar}}$ and the observed kinematical acceleration $g_{\mathrm{obs}}$. The…
We focus on a series of $f(R)$ gravity theories in Palatini formalism to investigate the probabilities of producing the late-time acceleration for the flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe. We apply statefinder diagnostic to these cosmological models for chosen series of parameters to see if they distinguish from one another. The diagnostic involves the statefinder pair $\{r,s\}$, where $r$ is derived from the scale factor $a$ and its higher derivatives with respect to the cosmic time $t$, and $s$ is expressed by $r$ and the deceleration parameter $q$. In conclusion, we find that alth…
The dark energy-cold dark matter paradigm ($Λ$CDM) has gained widespread acceptance because it explains the pattern of anisotropies observed in the cosmic microwave background radiation, the observed distribution of large scale inhomogeneities in detectable matter, and the perceived overall expansion history of the Universe. It is further {\it assumed} that the cosmic dark matter component clusters on the scale of bound astronomical systems and thereby accounts for the observed difference between the directly detectable (baryonic) mass and the total Newtonian dynamical mass. In this respect th…
The discrepancy between the visible mass in galaxies or galaxy clusters, and that inferred from their dynamics is well known. The prevailing solution to this problem is dark matter. Here we show that a different approach, one that conforms to both the current Standard Model of Particle Physics and General Relativity, explains the recently observed tight correlation between the galactic baryonic mass and its observed acceleration. Using direct calculations based on General Relativity's Lagrangian, and parameter-free galactic models, we show that the nonlinear effects of General Relativity make …
We consider a scenario of large-scale modification of gravity that does not invoke extra degrees of freedom but includes coupling between baryonic matter and dark matter in the Einstein frame. The total matter energy density follows the standard conservation, and evolution has the character of deceleration in this frame. The model exhibits interesting features in the Jordan frame realized by virtue of a disformal transformation where individual matter components adhere to standard conservation but gravity is modified. A generic parametrization of disformal transformation leaves thermal history…
Intermediate-richness galaxy groups are an important test ground for MOND. First, they constitute a distinct type of galactic systems, with their own evolution histories and underlying physical processes; secondly, they probe little-chartered regions of parameter space, as they have baryonic masses similar to massive galaxies, and similar velocity dispersions, but much larger sizes -- similar to cluster cores (or even to clusters), but much lower dispersions. Importantly in the context of MOND, they have the lowest internal accelerations reachable inside galactic systems. I analyze a sample of…
In this paper, we constrain four time-dependent dark energy (TDDE) models by using the Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia), baryonic acoustic oscillations (BAO), observational Hubble parameter (OHD) data-sets as well as the single data point from the newest event GW150914. Subsequently, adopting the best fitting values of the model parameters, we apply the original statefinder, statefinder hierarchy, the growth rate of matter perturbations and $Om(z)$ diagnostics to distinguish the TDDE scenarios and the $Λ$CDM scenario from each other. We discover that all the TDDE models and $Λ$CDM model can be dist…
In this paper, we investigate a scenario in which late time cosmic acceleration might arise due to coupling between dark matter and baryonic matter without resorting to dark energy or large scale modification of gravity associated with extra degrees of freedom. The scenario can give rise to late time acceleration in Jordan frame and no acceleration in Einstein frame - \textit{generic modification of gravity} caused by disformal coupling. Using a simple parametrization of the coupling function, in maximally disformal case, we constrain the model parameters by using the age constraints due to gl…
We consider a scenario of modified gravity, which is generic to late-time acceleration, namely, acceleration in the Jordan frame and no acceleration in the Einstein frame. The possibility is realized by assuming an interaction between dark matter and the baryonic component in the Einstein frame which is removed by going to the Jordan frame using a disformal transformation giving rise to an exotic effective fluid responsible for causing phantom crossing at late times. In this scenario, past evolution is not distinguished from $Λ$CDM but late time dynamics is generically different due to the pre…
This article discusses a dark energy cosmological model in the standard theory of gravity - general relativity with a broad scalar field as a source. Exact solutions of Einstein's field equations are derived by considering a particular form of deceleration parameter $q$, which shows a smooth transition from decelerated to accelerated phase in the evolution of the universe. The external datasets such as Hubble ($H(z)$) datasets, Supernovae (SN) datasets, and Baryonic Acoustic Oscillation (BAO) datasets are used for constraining the model par parameters appearing in the functional form of $q$. T…
Cosmic acceleration is usually related with the unknown dark energy, which equation of state, w(z), is constrained and numerically confronted with independent astrophysical data. In order to make a diagnostic of w(z), the introduction of a null test of dark energy can be done using a diagnostic function of redshift, Om. In this work we present a nonparametric reconstruction of this diagnostic using the so-called Loess-Simex factory to test the concordance model with the advantage that this approach offers an alternative way to relax the use of priors and find a possible 'w' that reliably descr…
A recently proposed Asymptotically Safe cosmology provides an elegant mechanism towards understanding the nature of dark energy and its associated cosmic coincidence problem. The underlying idea is that the accelerated expansion of the universe can occur due to infrared quantum gravity modifications at intermediate astrophysical scales (galaxies or galaxy clusters) which produce local anti-gravity sources. In this cosmological model no extra unproven energy scales or fine-tuning are used. In this study the Asymptotically Safe model is confronted with the most recent observational data from low…
We derive the radial acceleration of stars in galaxies by using basic features of thermodynamics, statistical mechanics and general relativity. We assume that the "dark" component of the radial acceleration is originated from the reaction of dark energy to the presence of baryonic matter. It can be also explained as the macroscopic manifestation of a huge number of extremely soft bosonic excitations of the dark energy medium with wavelength larger than the size of the cosmological horizon, in thermal equilibrium with de Sitter spacetime. Our formula agrees with the phenomenological relation pr…
