Partial decay widths and branching fractions are calculated for the exclusive decays of the Standard Model Higgs boson into a pair of vector quarkonium states, $ H\to J/ψJ/ψ, H\to ΥΥ, H\to J/ψϕ, H\to J/ψΥ$, with relativistic corrections due to quark motion in mesons taken into account.
Exclusive photoproduction of heavy quarkonia at HERA is analyzed in the framework of the Regge-eikonal approach together with the nonrelativistic bound state formalism. Total and differential cross-sections for the process $γ+p\to (Q\bar{Q})_{1S}+p$ are calculated. The model predicts cross-sections of Exclusive Double Diffractive Events (EDDE) at TeVatron and LHC.
In this paper we analyze the exclusive photoproduction of heavy quarkonia pairs in the collinear factorization framework. We evaluate the amplitude of the process for $J/ψ\,-η_{c}$ quarkonia pair in the leading order of the strong coupling $α_{s},$ and express it in terms of generalized parton distributions (GPDs) of gluons in the proton. We made numerical estimates in the kinematics of the Electron Ion Collider, and found that in the photoproduction regime, when the virtuality of the photon is much smaller than the quarkonia mass, the cross-section of the process is sufficiently large for exp…
In this work, we revise the conventional description of J/Psi(1S), Y(1S), Psi'(2S) and Y'(2S) elastic photo- and electroproduction off a nucleon target within the color dipole picture and carefully study various sources of theoretical uncertainties in calculations of the corresponding electroproduction cross sections. For this purpose, we test the corresponding predictions using a bulk of available dipole cross section parametrisations obtained from deep inelastic scattering data at HERA. Specifically, we provide the detailed analysis of the energy and hard-scale dependencies of quarkonia yiel…
We improve the pNRQCD approach to annihilation processes of heavy quarkonium and make first pNRQCD predictions for exclusive electromagnetic production of heavy quarkonium. We consider strongly coupled quarkonia, i.e., quarkonia that are not Coulombic bound states. Possible strongly coupled quarkonia include excited charmonium and bottomonium states. For these, pNRQCD provides expressions for the decay and exclusive electromagnetic production NRQCD matrix elements that depend on the wavefunctions at the origin and few universal gluon field correlators. We compute electromagnetic decay widths a…
We discuss the exclusive $J/ψ$ photoproduction process, as measured recently at LHCb, as a means of constraining and ultimately determining the low $x$ and low $Q$ gluon PDF. The scale dependence of the theoretical prediction for this process is shown to be systematically improved via a taming of the known $\bar{\text{MS}}$ result, this amounts to resumming logarithmically enhanced small-$x$ terms and implementing a small-$Q$ power correction. The cross section level predictions allow the behaviour of the gluon PDF in the low $(x, Q)$ domain to be determined.
We discuss some different new aspects of $J/ψ$ meson production in exclusive, semi-exclusive and inclusive processes. We finish with a short discussion of double $J/ψ$ production. We point out some new results obtained recently by our group and discuss some open issues.
In this paper we study the high energy exclusive photoproduction of heavy quarkonia pairs in the leading order of the strong coupling constant $α_{s}$. In the suggested mechanism the quarkonia pairs are produced with opposite charge parities, and have predominantly oppositely directed transverse momenta. Using the Color Glass Condensate approach, we estimated numerically the production cross-sections in the kinematics of the forthcoming electron-proton colliders, as well as proton-ion colliders in ultraperipheral collisions. We found that the cross-sections are within the reach of planned expe…
In this paper, we calculate twist-2 light-cone distribution amplitudes (LCDAs) of the S-wave and P-wave quarkonia (namely $^1S_0$ state $η_{Q}$, $^3S_1$ state $J/ψ(Υ)$, $^1P_1$ state $h_{Q}$ and $^3P_J$ states $χ_{QJ}$ with $J=0,1,2$ and $Q=c,b$) to the next-leading order of the strong coupling $α_s$ and leading order of the velocity expansion $v$ in the non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD). We apply these LCDAs to some single quarkonium exclusive productions at large center-of-mass energy, such as $γ^*\to η_Qγ, χ_{QJ}γ~(J=0,1,2)$, $Z\to η_Qγ, χ_{QJ}γ~(J=0,1,2), J/ψ(Υ)γ, h_Qγ$ and $h\to J/ψγ$, by adop…
Muon pair production in exclusive radiative decays $χ_{cJ}\to J/ψμμ$, $χ_{bJ}\toΥμμ$ are considered. We present numerical values of the branching fractions and distributions over various kinematical variables.
Based on the two Higgs doublet model, we study the effect of Higgs-boson exchange on the (super)heavy quarkonium \bar QQ, which induces a strong attractive force between a (super)heavy quark Q and an antiquark \bar Q. An interesting application is the decay of (super)heavy quarkonia \bar QQ into a Higgs boson associated with gauge bosons. The criterion for making the \bar QQ bound state is studied. We also show that non-perturbative effects due to gluonic field fluctuations are rather small in such a heavy quark sector. Possible enhancement for productions and decays of \bar QQ bound states ma…
In this paper, we discuss the exclusive photoproduction of ground and excited states of $ψ(1S,2S)$ and $Υ(1S,2S)$ in ultraperipheral collisions (UPCs). Using the potential model in order to obtain the vector meson wave function, we find a good agreement of our calculations with data from the LHC and HERA colliders for $J/ψ(1S,2S) $ and $Υ(1S)$ in $γp$ collisions. We extend the calculations to the nuclear target case applying them to $AA$ UPCs with the use of the shadowing and finite coherence length effects fitted to the data. Our results are compared to the recent LHC data, in both incoherent…
In this paper we discuss decays of the Higgs boson to quarkonia in association with a photon. We identify a new mechanism for producing such final states in Higgs decays that leads to predictions for the decay rates that differ by an order of magnitude from previous estimates. Although the branching ratios for these processes are still small, the processes are experimentally clean, and the H \to J/ψ+gamma decay should be observable at a 14 TeV LHC. We point out that quantum interference between two different production mechanisms makes the decay rates sensitive to the HQQbar couplings. Consequ…
In this paper, we study fully differential quarkonia photoproduction observables in ultraperipheral collisions (UPCs) as functions of momentum transfer squared. We employ the dipole picture of the QCD part of the scattering with proton and nucleus targets, with the projectile being a quasi-real photon flux emitted by an incoming hadron. We analyse such observables for ground $J/ψ$, $Υ(1S)$ and excited $ψ'$, $Υ(2S)$ states whose light-front wave functions are obtained in the framework of interquark potential model incorporating the Melosh spin transformation. Two different low-$x$ saturation mo…
We compute the exclusive electroproduction, $γ^* p \rightarrow V p$, of heavy quarkonia $V$ to NLO in the collinear factorisation scheme, which has been formally proven for this process. The inclusion of an off-shell virtuality $Q^2$ carried by the photon extends the photoproduction phase space of the exclusive heavy quarkonia observable to electroproduction kinematics. This process is relevant for diffractive scattering at HERA and the upcoming EIC, as well as at the proposed LHeC and FCC.
We study the exclusive decay of $J/Ψ$, $Υ$ and $B_c$ into a lepton pair combined with two pions in the two kinematic regions. One is specified by the two pions having large momenta, but a small invariant mass. The other is specified by the two pions having small momenta. In both cases we find that in the heavy quark limit the decay amplitude takes a factorized form, in which the nonperturbative effect related to heavy meson is represented by a NRQCD matrix element. The nonperturbative effects related to the two pions are represented by some universal functions characterizing the conversion of …
I discuss exclusive production of the $η'$, $J/ψ$, and $χ_c(0^+)$ mesons in $pp$ and $p \bar p$ collisions at high energies. QCD diffractive mechanisms as well as nondiffractive mechanisms are discussed. Different unintegrated gluon distribution functions (UGDF) are used. Some differential distributions are shown and discussed.
It is well know that the precise measurement of $H\toγγ$ can generate two degenerate parameter spaces of $Hγγ$ anomalous coupling. We propose to utilize the exclusive Higgs rare decays $H\toΥ(ns)+γ$ to break above mentioned degeneracy and further to constrain the $Hγγ$ anomalous coupling at the HL-LHC. We demonstrate that the branching ratios of $H\toΥ(ns)+γ$ can be significantly enhanced in the non-SM-like parameter space from $H\toγγ$ measurement, due to the destructive interference between the direct and indirect production of $Υ(ns)$ in the SM. By applying the NRQCD factorization formalism…
We improve the theoretical predictions for the decays of the Higgs boson to an $S$-wave vector quarkonium plus a photon by calculating the relativistic correction of order $v^2$, where $v$ is the heavy-quark velocity in the quarkonium rest frame. Our numerical results are given for the $J/ψ$ and $Υ(nS)$ channels, with $n=1,2,3$. The numerical results include a previously calculated correction of order $α_s$ and summations, to all orders in $α_s$, of leading logarithms of $m_H^2/m_Q^2$, where $m_H$ is the Higgs-boson mass and $m_Q$ is the heavy-quark mass. These QCD corrections apply to the con…
Rare Higgs decays into a pair of heavy vector quarkonia, $h\to VV$ ($V=J/Ψ$, $Υ$ etc.), have been investigated in the standard model. Different from the past literature in which these decays are thought to be only dominated by the longitudinally polarized final states, we also include the transitions, which proceed through $h\to γ^*γ^*$/$h\to Vγ^*$, followed by $γ^*\to V$. The final vector quarkonia via these ways are dominantly transversely polarized. Our calculation however shows that these transitions could lead to significant contributions to the decay rate, especially for the charmonium f…
Recent progress in the factorization of exclusive decays of heavy quarkonia into long-distance and short-distance contributions is presented. The role of higher Fock states and colour-octet contributions is outlined.
The paper is devoted to vector or pseudoscalar heavy quarkonia production J/ψ, ψ(2S), B_{s} or B_s^* in association with five charged π-mesons in exclusive B_c-meson decays. Using available formfactors parameterizations and spectral functions of $W \to 5 π$ transition we obtain branching fractions of these decays and distributions over invariant mass of (5π)-system.
QCD corrections to all the allowed decays of superheavy groundstate quarkonia into electroweak gauge and Higgs bosons are presented. For quick estimates, approximations that reproduce the exact results within less than at worst two percent are also given.
Central exclusive production (CEP) processes in high-energy proton -- (anti)proton collisions offer a very promising framework within which to study both novel aspects of QCD and new physics signals. Among the many interesting processes that can be studied in this way, those involving the production of heavy (c,b) quarkonia and gamma gamma states have sufficiently well understood theoretical properties and sufficiently large cross sections that they can serve as `standard candle' processes with which we can benchmark predictions for new physics CEP at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Motivated …
We tune the calculation of central exclusive Higgs production to the recent CDF central exclusive dijet data, and predict the cross section for the exclusive production of Higgs boson at the LHC. It is always below 1 fb, and below 0.3 fb after experimental cuts.
Theoretical analysis of three exclusive decays, $B_{c}\to J/ψ+\mathcal{R},$where $\mathcal{R}=K+4π,$$KK+3π$, or $7π$, is given. Using the factorization method and the resonance approximation (methods proved to be very useful in the analysis of some other similar decays), we have obtained analytical expressions of the required amplitudes and created distributions over some interesting mass combinations. Presented results could be used for comparison with forthcoming experimental data and better understanding of the nature of heavy quarkonia.
We use a Monte Carlo implementation of recently developped models of double diffractive Higgs production to assess the sensitivity of the LHC experiments.
Two theoretical descriptions of exclusive diffractive jets and Higgs production at the LHC were implemented into the FPMC generator: the Khoze, Martin, Ryskin model and the Cudell, Hernández, Ivanov, Dechambre exclusive model. We then study the uncertainties. We compare their predictions to the CDF measurement and discuss the possibility of constraining the exclusive Higgs production at the LHC with early measurements of exclusive jets. We show that the present theoretical uncertainties can be reduced with such data by a factor of 5.
I give an overview of recent theoretical results for exclusive Higgs-production cross sections, focusing in particular on processes where precise predictions will be relevant in the near future.
We calculated the cross section for the exclusive double diffractive $b\bar b$ production in $pp\to p(b\bar b)p$ reaction at LHC. Large cross sections are obtained (3 -- 10 nb). This process constitutes the irreducible background to the exclusive Higgs production and is of particular importance in the upcoming Higgs boson searches. The distribution in invariant mass of the $b \bar b$ pair is calculated and compared with the corresponding contribution from the Higgs decay. The contribution from the exclusive production of $Z^0$ and its decay as well as the contribution from the $γγ\to b \bar b$…
We present a range of physics results for central exclusive production processes at the LHC, using the new SuperChic 2 Monte Carlo event generator. This includes significant theoretical improvements and updates, most importantly a fully differential treatment of the soft survival factor, as well as a greater number of generated processes. We provide an overview of the latest theoretical framework, and consider in detail a selection of final states, namely exclusive 2 and 3 jets, photoproduced vector mesons, two-photon initiated muon and $W$ boson pairs and heavy $χ_{c,b}$ quarkonia.
Exclusive double diffractive (EDD) Higgs boson production is analyzed in the framework of the Regge-eikonal approach. Total and differential cross-sections for the process $p+p\to p+H+p$ are calculated. Experimental possibilities to find Higgs boson at LHC are discussed.
The latest electroweak precision data allow the existence of additional chiral generations in the standard model. We study prospects of search for the fourth standard model family fermions and quarkonia at $e^{+}e^{-}$ and $γγ$ options of CLIC. It is shown that CLIC will be powerfull machine for discovery and investigation of both fourth family leptons and quarkonia. Moreover, the formation of the fourth family quarkonia will give a new opportunity to investigate Higgs boson properties.
We use as a starting point the original, central inclusive Bialas-Landshoff model for Higgs and dijet production by a double pomeron exchange in pp collisions. Next we propose the simple extension of this model to the exclusive processes. We find the extended model to be consistent with the CDF Run I, II upper limits for double diffractive exclusive dijet production. The predictions for the exclusive Higgs boson production cross sections at the Tevatron and the LHC energies are also presented.
The prospects for central exclusive diffractive (CED) production of MSSM Higgs bosons at the LHC are reviewed. These processes can provide important information on the $\cp$-even Higgs bosons, allowing to probe interesting regions of the $\MA$--$\tb$ parameter plane. The sensitivity of the searches in the forward proton mode for the Higgs bosons in the so-called CDM-benchmark scenarios and the effects of fourth-generation models on the CED Higgs production are briefly discussed.
We review activities in the field of theoretical, phenomenological and experimental studies related to the production of the Higgs boson in central exclusive processes at LHC in models beyond Standard Model. Prospects in the context of the Higgs boson discovery at LHC in 2012 and of proposals to build forward proton detectors at ATLAS and CMS side are summarized.
We discuss the contribution of so-called semi-enhanced hard rescattering corrections to central exclusive diffractive Higgs production, pp -> p+H+p, at the LHC. We present arguments to show that these corrections are small. We confirm these expectations by considering HERA data for leading neutron production.
It is argued that colour octet contribution in exclusive charmonium decays is very important even though the same infrared divergence found in P-wave colour singlet inclusive decay is absent. This comes about because of the suppression at the level of the wavefunction of P-wave quarkonia. Using the modified hard scattering approach of Brodsky, Lepage, Botts, Li and Sterman, we use charmonium decay into baryon-antibaryon pair as an example and show that the colour singlet contribution alone is clearly insufficient to explain the experimental decay widths.
Being the "mother distributions" of all types of two-parton correlation functions, generalized transverse momentum dependent parton distributions (GTMDs) have attracted a lot of attention over the last years. We argue that exclusive double production of pseudoscalar quarkonia ($η_c$ or $η_b$) in nucleon-nucleon collisions gives access to GTMDs of gluons.
We propose central exclusive production of a charged Higgs boson in association with a W boson as a possible signature of certain types of extended Higgs sectors. We calculate the cross section and find that the rate at the LHC could be large enough to allow observation in some models with two Higgs doublets, where the charged Higgs and at least one of the neutral scalars can be light enough. We use the two-Higgs doublet model as a prototype and consider two distinct regions of parameter space, but we also briefly discuss the prospects for the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model, whe…
In this paper, it is shown that in hadron-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions, the main source for central exclusive diffractive Higgs production is photon-photon fusion. At the LHC energy, the total cross section for this process is about 0.6 pb (for proton-gold scattering), and 3.9 nb (for gold-gold collision) while the gluon-gluon fusion leads to the value of the cross section for CED Higgs production which is about 0.1 nb and 3.9 pb respectively.
We study the differential branching ratio, branching ratio and the forward-backward asymmetry for the exclusive $B_s->ϕ\ell^+ \ell^-$ decay in the two Higgs doublet model. We analyze the dependencies of these quantities on the model parameters and show that these observables are highly sensitive to new physics and hence may provide powerful probe of the SM and beyond.
We discuss the prospects of searching for the neutral Higgs bosons of the triplet model in central exclusive production at the LHC. A detailed Monte Carlo analysis is presented for six benchmark scenarios for the Higgs boson, $H_1^{0}$, these cover $m_{H_1^0}=$~120, 150 GeV and doublet-triplet mixing of $c_H=$~0.2, 0.5 or 0.8. We find that, for appropriate values of $c_H$, an excellent Higgs mass measurement is possible for the neutral Higgs in the triplet model, and discuss how to distinguish the triplet model Higgs boson from the Higgs boson of the Standard Model.
We review the prospects for Central Exclusive Production (CEP) of BSM Higgs bosons at the LHC using forward proton detectors proposed to be installed at 220 m and 420 m from the ATLAS and/ or CMS. Results are presented for MSSM in standard benchmark scenarios and in scenarios compatible with the Cold Dark Matter relic abundance and other precision measurements. Following results of the LHC Higgs boson searches, we investigate a hypothesis that candidates found at a mass of 125 GeV are compatible with light CP-even MSSM Higgs bosons. We show that CEP can give a valuable information about spin-p…
We discuss exclusive double diffractive (EDD) production of Higgs boson and heavy quark - heavy antiquark pairs at high energies. Differential distributions for $c \bar c$ at $\sqrt{s}$ = 1.96 GeV and for $b \bar b$ at $\sqrt{s}$ = 14 TeV are shown and discussed. Irreducible leading-order $b \bar b $ background to Higgs production is calculated in several kinematical variables. The signal-to-background ratio is shown and several improvements are suggested by imposing cuts on $b$ ($\bar b$) transverse momenta and rapidities.
Rare Lambda_b -> Lambda l^+ l^- decay is investigated in framework of general two Higgs doublet model, in which a new source of CP violation exists (model III). The polarization parameter, CP asymmetry and decay width are calculated. It is shown that CP asymmetry is a very sensitive tool for establishing model III.
We review the prospects for Central Exclusive Production (CEP) of BSM Higgs bosons at the LHC using forward proton detectors proposed to be installed at 220 m and 420 m from the ATLAS and/ or CMS. Results are presented for MSSM in standard benchmark scenarios, in scenarios compatible with the Cold Dark Matter relic abundance and other precision measurements, and for SM with a fourth generation of fermions. We show that CEP can give a valuable information about spin-parity properties of the Higgs bosons.
The double parton distributions (dPDF), both conventional and those corresponding to parton splitting, are calculated and compared for different two-parton combinations. The conventional and splitting dPDFs have very similar shape in $x_1$ and $x_2$. We make a first quantitative evaluation of the single-ladder-splitting contribution to double parton scattering (DPS) production of two S- or P-wave quarkonia, two Higgs bosons and $c \bar c c \bar c$. The ratio of the single-ladder-splitting to conventional contributions is discussed as a function of centre-of-mass energy, mass of the produced sy…
We study the differential branching ratio, branching ratio and the forward-backward asymmetry for the exclusive $B \to π\ell^+ \ell^-$ and $B \to ρ\ell^+ \ell^-$ decays in the general two Higgs doublet model including the neutral Higgs boson effects. We analyze the dependencies of these quantities on the neutral Higgs boson contributions and the other model parameters. We observe that two Higgs doublet model with the neutral Higgs boson exchanges gives quite sizable contributions to these observables for both channels we consider. Since the neutral Higgs boson exchanges are the only source of …
We consider the central exclusive production of $q\bar{q}$ pairs and Higgs boson at proton-proton collisions at LHC. The amplitude for the process is derived within the $k_{\perp}$-factorization approach and considered in different kinematical asymptotics, in particular, in the important high quark transverse momenta and massless quark limits. Quark helicity and spin-projection amplitudes in two different frames are shown in extenso. Rapidity distributions, quark jet $p_{\perp}$ distributions, invariant $q\bar{q}$ mass distributions, angular azimuthal correlations between outgoing protons and …
We investigate the prospects for Central Exclusive Diffractive (CED) production of BSM Higgs bosons at the LHC using forward proton detectors installed at 220 m and 420 m distance around ATLAS and / or CMS. We update a previous analysis for the MSSM taking into account improvements in the theoretical calculations and the most recent exclusion bounds from the Tevatron. We extend the MSSM analysis to new benchmark scenarios that are in agreement with the cold dark matter relic abundance and other precision measurements. We analyse the exclusive production of Higgs bosons in a model with a fourth…
Recent advances in our understanding of the higher-wave quarkonia have generated much interests in quarkonium physics. However most are devoted to inclusive decays and productions. Experimental data of several two-body exclusive decay channels of P-wave charmonia such as ππand p \bar p are available and some have recently been re-measured by the BES collaboration. It is not clear from the outset that color octet is needed for these exclusive channels. Indeed only color singlet has been used in the past and reasonable agreement with data was found. Contrary to these old results, we provide theo…
The prospects for central exclusive diffractive (CED) production of MSSM Higgs bosons at the LHC are reviewed. It is shown that the CED channels, making use of forward proton detectors at the LHC installed at 220 m and 420 m distance around ATLAS and / or CMS, can provide important information on the Higgs sector of the MSSM. In particular, CED production of the neutral CP-even Higgs bosons h and H and their decays into bottom quarks has the potential to probe interesting regions of the M_A--tan_beta parameter plane of the MSSM and may give access to the bottom Yukawa couplings of the Higgs bo…
We present the general rules for double-Reggeon production of objects with different spins and parities. The existing experimental information on resonance production in these central exclusive diffractive processes is discussed. The absorptive corrections are calculated and found to depend strongly on the quantum numbers of the produced states. The central exclusive diffractive production of 0^+ and 0^- Higgs bosons is studied as an illustrative topical example of the use of the general rules. The signal for diffractive 0^+ and 0^- Higgs production at the LHC is evaluated using, as an example…
We perform a detailed study of the exclusive Higgs decays $h\to MZ$ and $h\to MW$, where $M$ is a pseudoscalar or vector meson, using the QCD factorization approach. We allow for the presence of new-physics effects in the form of modified Higgs couplings to gauge bosons and fermions, including the possibility of flavor-changing Higgs couplings. We show that the decays $h\to VZ$ exhibit a strong sensitivity to the effective CP-even and CP-odd $hγZ$ couplings. When combined with a measurement of the $h\toγZ$ decay rate, this can be used to extract these couplings up to a sign ambiguity in the CP…
