In the context of warped scenarios in which Standard Model (SM) fields are allowed to propagate in the bulk, we revisit the possible mixing between the IR localized Higgs field and the Radion graviscalar. The phenomenology of the resulting mostly-Higgs field does not suffer important deviations with respect to the case in which all the SM is localized in the IR brane (original Higgs-Radion mixing scenario). On the contrary, the phenomenology of the mostly-Radion field can present important differences with respect to the original scenario. At the LHC, the most striking effect is now the possibility of sizeable Radion decays into photons in a mass range well beyond the ZZ and WW thresholds, not due to dramatically enhanced couplings to photons but to suppressed couplings to massive fields.
We evaluate the radion and Higgs masses in the gauge-Higgs unification models on the warped geometry, in which the modulus is stabilized by the Casimir energy. We analyze the one-loop effective potential and clarify the dependences of those masses on the Wilson line phase $θ_H$. The radion mass varies 1-30GeV for $0.06\leq\sinθ_H\leq 0.3$, while the Higgs mass is 150-200 GeV and depends on $θ_H$ only logarithmically. The radion couplings to the standard model particles are sensitive to the warp factor, and are too small to detect at colliders in the region where the five-dimensional descriptio…
Even if the LHC observations are consistent with the Standard model (SM), current LHC results are not precise enough to rule out the presence of new physics. Taking a contrarian view of the SM Higgs fandom, we look out for a more suitable candidate for the 125 GeV boson observed at the LHC. At the same time, a recent result from CMS hints towards an excess near 95 GeV in the diphoton ($γγ$) channel. Given these aspects, we revisit the Higgs-radion mixing model to explore the viability of the radion mixed Higgs to be the 125 GeV boson along with the presence of a light radion (to be precise Hig…
We study constraints on the radion mass and couplings in the Randall-Sundrum model from the recent LHC data on the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson searches. When the radion is heavy enough so that it can decay into a pair of on-shell Z-bosons, we find that the ZZ channel gives a stringent constraint. For example, if the radion mass m_ϕis 200 GeV, the scale Λ_ϕwhich characterizes the interactions of the radion with the SM fields must be larger than 5 TeV. Even for m_ϕ=1 TeV, we find that the lower bound on Λ_ϕis 2 TeV.
In this paper we study the higgs-radion system of the Randall-Sundum model where matter and gauge fields live in the bulk. We take into account the Kalza-Klein(KK) loop correction for the higgs and the raidion coupling to the gauge bosons. Inspired by the LHC data in 2011 where a sign of the higgs boson has been seen at 125 GeV, we fix the one of the mass eigenstate of the higgs-radion mixed state at 125 GeV, and scan over all the other parameters which have not been excluded by the 2011's data. We find the region of parameters where the scalar particle at 125 GeV have branching ratio larger o…
We study Higgs-radion mixing in a warped extra dimensional model with Standard Model fields in the bulk, and we include a fourth generation of chiral fermions. The main problem with the fourth generation is that, in the absence of Higgs-radion mixing, it produces a large enhancement in the Higgs production cross-section, now severely constrained by LHC data. We analyze the production and decay rates of the two physical states emerging from the mixing and confront them with present LHC data. We show that the current signals observed can be compatible with the presence of one, or both, of these …
Motivated by the bulk mixing $ξR_5 H^{\dagger}H$ between a massive radion and a bulk scalar Higgs in warped extra dimensions, we construct an effective four dimensional action that---via the AdS/CFT correspondence---describes the most general mixing between the only light states in the theory, the dilaton and the Higgs. Due to conformal invariance, once the Higgs scalar is localized in the bulk of the extra-dimension the coupling between the dilaton and the Higgs kinetic term vanishes, implying a suppressed coupling between the dilaton and massive gauge bosons. We comment on the implications o…
Radion effects on the production of an intermediate-mass scalar and Z at LEP II
We study the custodial Randall-Sundrum model with two Higgs doublets localized in the $\TeV $ brane. The scalar potential is CP- conserving and has a softly broken $Z_2$ symmetry. In the presence of a curvature-scalar mixing term $ ξ_{ab} \mathcal{R} Φ_a^\dagger Φ_b$ the radion that stabilizes the extra dimension now mixes with the two CP-even neutral scalars $h$ and $H$. A goodness of fit of the LHC data on the properties of the light Higgs is performed on the parameter space of the type-I and type-II models. LHC direct searches for heavy scalars in different decay channels can help distingui…
In 2013, Geller, Bar-Shalom and Soni (GBS) proposed a Randall-Sundrum model with a bulk SU(2) doublet. They found that the doublet could both stabilize the extra dimension and break the electroweak symmetry; the radion and the Higgs boson were then one and the same. This alternative to the Goldberger-Wise mechanism contained enhanced Higgs couplings to gluons and photons, but at the time of the GBS paper, these couplings were phenomenologically acceptable. We note that updated results from the LHC rule out the model as presented. One can expand the parameter space by extending the model to inc…
An attempt is made to present the influence of the scalar unparticle on some scattering processes in the Randall - Sundum model. The contribution of the scalar unparticle on the production of Higgs - radion at high energy colliders is studied in detail. We evaluate the production cross-sections in the electron-positron ($e^{+}e^{-}$), photon-photon ($γγ$) and gluon-gluon ($gg$) collisions, which depend strongly on the collision energy $\sqrt{s}$, the scaling dimension $d_{U}$ of the unparticle operator $\mathcal{O}_{U}$ and the energy scale $Λ_{U}$. Numerical evaluation shows that the cross - …
Radion Phenomenology in the Randall Sundrum Scenario
We explore the constraints on the parameter space of a Randall-Sundrum warped geometry scenario, where a radion field arises out of the attempt to stabilise the radius of the extra compact spacelike dimension, using the most recent data from higgs searches at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Tevatron. We calculate contributions from both the scalar mass eigenstates arising from radion-higgs kinetic mixing in all important search channels. The most important channel to be affected is the decay via WW*, where no invariant mass peak can discern the two distinct physical states. Improving u…
We study production and decay of a radion predicted in the Randall-Sundrum model at the LHC. The radion is a scalar particle and its production and decay channels are quite similar to those of the Higgs boson. We find constraints on the model parameter space taking account of the results of the Higgs boson search at the LHC. We also study a possibility discriminating the radion from the scalar particles in the other model such as the supersymmetric standard model at the LHC experiments.
We explore the parameter choices in the five-dimensional Randall-Sundrum model with the inclusion of Higgs-radion mixing that can describe current LHC hints for one or more Higgs boson signals.
In a class of Randall-Sundrum(RS) models, matter fermions and gauge bosons live in a five dimensional bulk, while the Higgs boson lives in a four dimensional visible brane. The Higgs boson can mix with a radion, by a Higgs-radion mixing term. It is difficult to directly discover the heavy Kaluza-Klein(KK) particles at the Large Hadron Collider(LHC), because the mass of the lightest KK particle is expected to be above 10 TeV to satisfy constraints from avor changing neutral currents(FCNC). Instead, the precision measurements of the Higgs sector at the high luminosity LHC(HL-LHC) and the Interna…
We consider a quartic interaction of the Higgs and Goldberger-Wise fields, which connects the mechanism of the extra dimension size stabilization with spontaneous symmetry breaking on our brane and gives rise to a coupling of the Higgs field to the radion and its KK tower. We estimate a possible influence of this coupling on the Higgs-radion mixing and study restrictions on model parameters from the LHC data.
We consider the Higgs-dilaton(radion) system using the trace of energy-momentum tensor ($T_{~μ}^μ$) with the full Standard Model (SM) gauge symmetry $G_{\rm SM} \equiv SU(3)_c \times SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y$, and find out that the resulting phenomenology for the Higgs-dilaton(radion) system is distinctly different from the earlier studies based on the $T_{~μ}^μ$ with the unbroken subgroup $H_{\rm SM} \equiv SU(3)_c \times U(1)_{\rm em}$ of $G_{\rm SM}$. After electroweak symmetry breaking (EWSB), the SM Higgs boson and dilaton(radion) will mix with each other, and there appear two Higgs-like sca…
A warped extra dimension model predicts an extra scalar particle beyond the Standard Model which is called a radion. Although interactions of the radion are similar to those of the Higgs boson in the Standard Model, a relatively light radion ($\lesssim 100 {\rm GeV}$) is not severely constrained from the Higgs search experiments at the LHC. In this paper we study discovery potential of the radion at a photon collider as an option of ILC. Owing to the trace anomaly of the energy-momentum tensor, both a production of radion in $γγ$ collision and its decay to gluon pair are enhanced sizably. We f…
We investigate a Randall-Sundrum model with an SU(2) doublet propagating in the bulk. Upon calculating its gravitational effect we find that a stabilized radius can be generated without the use of an additional scalar, as needed for example in the Goldberger-Wise (GW) mechanism, and with no additional fine-tuning other than the inescapable one due to the cosmological constant; similar tuning is also present in the GW mechanism. The lowest scalar excitation in this scenario, the counterpart of the radion of the GW mechanism, has both radion-like and Higgs-like couplings to the SM fields. It, th…
The radion, a scalar particle associated with the radius of a compact warped extra dimension, may be the lightest new particle in this class of models. Its couplings to SM particles are proportional to the their masses, similar to the usual Higgs boson, but suppressed by a scale $Λ_r$, the radion vacuum expectation value. The main differences are the coupling to massless gauge bosons that receives contribution from the trace anomaly of the energy-momentum tensor due to the the nonvanishing $β$ functions and the mixing with the Higgs boson arising from a nonminimal coupling to gravity parametri…
In Randall-Sundrum models, one typically expects the radion to be the lightest new "gravity" state, as it is dual to a composite pseudo-Goldstone boson associated with conformal symmetry breaking in the IR. Here, we investigate the effects of localized brane curvature on the properties of the radion in Goldberger-Wise stabilized Randall-Sundrum models. We point out that both the radion mass and coupling to brane matter are sensitive to the brane curvature. Radion/Higgs kinetic mixing, via an IR-localized non-minimal coupling to the Higgs, is also investigated, in relation to the ghost-like rad…
Many models, in particular, the brane-world models with two branes, predict the existence of the scalar radion, whose mass can be somewhat smaller than those of all the Kaluza-Klein modes of the graviton and Standard Model (SM) particles. Due to its origin the radion interacts with the trace of the energy-momentum tensor of the SM. The fermion part of the radion interaction Lagrangian is different from that for the SM Higgs boson due to the presence of additional terms playing a role for off-shell fermions. It was shown previously that for the case of the single radion and single Higgs boson p…
Phenomenology of the radion in Randall-Sundrum scenario at colliders
A number of candidate theories beyond the standard model (SM) predict new scalar bosons below the TeV region. Among these, the radion, which is predicted in the Randall-Sundrum model, and the dilaton, which is predicted in spontaneous scale symmetry breaking, have very similar couplings to those of the SM Higgs boson, and it is very difficult to differentiate these three spin-0 particles in the expected signals of the Higgs boson at the LHC and Tevatron. We demonstrate that the observation of the ratio sigma(gamma gamma)/sigma(WW) gives a simple and decisive way, independently of the values of…
We investigate Higgs-radion mixing scenario through single radion photoproduction process $pp\to pγp\to pRqX$ at the LHC where $X$ represents the remnants of one of the initial protons. We consider high luminosity values of $L_{int}=200\;fb^{-1}$, $500\;fb^{-1}$ and $3000\;fb^{-1}$. We obtain bounds on the mixing parameter space by considering $R\to γγ$, $R\to W^+ W^-$ and $R\to ZZ$ decay channels of the radion as the signal. We also perform a similar analysis for a 100 TeV future proton-proton collider and compare its potential with that of LHC.
The appearance of the radion field, which is associated with the spin-0 metric fluctuations combined in some manner with the scalar stabilizing field, and of the radion, the corresponding lowest Kaluza-Klein (KK) mode, is a generic prediction of stabilized brane world models. In such models the radion plays the role of the dilaton, and its mass may be somewhat smaller than that of all the KK modes of other particles propagating in the multidimensional bulk. Due to its origin, the radion couples to the trace of the energy-momentum tensor of the Standard Model, the interaction Lagrangian of the …
In 5-dimensional models with gauge-Higgs unification, the F-term vacuum expectation value of the radion provides, in close analogy to the Giudice-Masiero mechanism, a natural source for the mu and B mu term. Both the leading order gauge theory lagrangian and the supersymmetric Chern-Simons term contain couplings to the radion superfield which can be used for this purpose. We analyse the basic features of this mechanism for mu term generation and provide an explicit example, based on a variation of the SU(6) gauge-Higgs unification model of Burdman and Nomura. This construction contains all the…
The radion scalar field might be the lightest new particle predicted by extra-dimensional extensions of the Standard Model. It could thus lead to the first signatures of new physics at the LHC collider. We perform a complete study of the radion production in association with the Z gauge boson in the custodially protected warped model with a brane-localised Higgs boson addressing the gauge hierarchy problem. Radion-Higgs mixing effects are present. Such a radion production receives possibly resonant contributions from the Kaluza-Klein excitations of the Z boson as well as the extra neutral gaug…
In this work we point out that the apparent diphoton excess initially presented by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations could have originated from a radion in the bulk Higgs scenario within a warped extra dimension. In this scenario the couplings of the radion to massive gauge bosons are suppressed, allowing it to evade existing searches. In the presence of mixing with the Higgs, due to the strong constraints from diboson searches, only points near what we denominate the alignment region were able to explain the diphoton signal and evade other experimental constraints. In light of the new measurem…
Lepton Flavor Violating Radion Decays in the Randall-Sundrum Scenario: The Thesis
The lepton flavor violating interactions are worthwhile to examine since they are sensitive to physics beyond the Standard Model . The simplest extension of the Standard Model promoting the lepton flavor violating interactions are the so called two Higgs doublet model which contains an additional Higgs doublet carrying the same quantum numbers as the first one. In this model, the lepton flavor violating interactions are induced by new scalar Higgs bosons , scalar h^{0} and pseudo scalar A^{0}, and Yukawa couplings, appearing as free parameters, are determined by using the experimental data. On…
We investigate the properties of scalar fields arising from gravity propagating in extra dimensions. In the scenario of large extra dimensions, proposed by Arkani-Hamed, Dimopoulos and Dvali, graviscalar Kaluza-Klein excitations are less important than the spin-2 counterparts in most processes. However, there are important exceptions. The Higgs boson can mix to these particles by coupling to the Ricci scalar. Because of the large number of states involved, this mixing leads, in practice, to a sizeable invisible width for the Higgs. In the Randall-Sundrum scenario, the only graviscalar is the r…
Light radions constitute one of the few surviving possibilities for observable new particle states at the sub-TeV level which arise in models with extra spacetime dimensions. It is already known that the 125 GeV state discovered at CERN is unlikely to be a pure radion state, since its decays resemble those of the Standard Model Higgs boson too closely. However, due to experimental errors in the measured decay widths, the possibility still remains that it could be a mixture of the radion with one (or more) Higgs states. We use the existing LHC data at 8 and 13 TeV to make a thorough investigati…
We consider the Higgs-radion mixing in the context of warped space extra dimensional models with custodial symmetry and investigate the prospects of detecting the mixed radion. Custodial symmetries allow the Kaluza-Klein excitations to be lighter, and protect Zbb to be in agreement with experimental constraints. We perform a complementary study of discovery reaches of the Higgs-radion mixed state at the 13 and 14 TeV LHC and at the 500 and 1000 GeV ILC. We carry out a comprehensive analysis of the most significant production and decay modes of the mixed radion in the 80 GeV - 1 TeV mass range,…
