A profound quantum-gravitational effect of space-time dimension running with respect to the size of space-time region has been discovered a few years ago through the numerical simulations of lattice quantum gravity in the framework of causal dynamical triangulation [hep-th/0505113] as well as in renormalization group approach to quantum gravity [hep-th/0508202]. Unfortunately, along these approaches the interpretation and the physical meaning of the effective change of dimension at shorter scales is not clear. The aim of this paper is twofold. First, we find that box-counting dimension in face of finite resolution of space-time (generally implied by quantum gravity) shows a simple way how both the qualitative and the quantitative features of this effect can be understood. Second, considering two most interesting cases of random and holographic fluctuations of the background space, we find that it is random fluctuations that gives running dimension resulting in modification of Newton's inverse square law in a perfect agreement with the modification coming from one-loop gravitational radiative corrections.
We consider a model of a holographic braneworld universe in which a cosmological fluid occupies a 3+1 dimensional brane located at the boundary of the asymptotic AdS$_5$ bulk. We combine the AdS/CFT correspondence and the second Randall-Sundrum (RSII) model to establish a relationship between the RSII braneworld cosmology and the boundary metric induced by the time dependent bulk geometry. In the framework of the Friedmann Robertson Walker cosmology we discuss some physically interesting scenarios involving the RSII and holographic braneworlds.
We explore the properties of the holographic fermions in extremal $R$-charged black hole background with a running chemical potential, as well as the dipole coupling between fermions and the gauge field in the bulk. We find that although the running chemical potential effect the location of the Fermi surface, it does not change the type of fermions. We also study the onset of the Fermi gap and the gap effected by running chemical potential and the dipole coupling. The spectral function in the limit $ω\rightarrow0$ and the existence of the Fermi liquid are also investigated. The running chemica…
A scale-dependent cosmological constant $Λ$ and the Newton constant G emerge naturally in quantum field theory in a curved space-time background leading to renormalization group running cosmologies. A scale-setting procedure is discussed in these cosmological models and the interpretation of the scale is emphasized. This setup introduces dark energy without invoking quintessence-like fields and can be applied to a variety of problems. The scale-dependent $Λ$ and G are also naturally incorporated into the generalized holographic dark energy model, and applied to different aspects of cosmology.
Over the last few years a certain class of dark-energy models decaying inversely proportional to the square of the horizon distance emerged on the basis either of Heisenberg uncertainty relations or of the uncertainty relation between the four-volume and the cosmological constant. The very nature of these dark energies is understood to be the same, namely it is the energy of background space/metric fluctuations. Putting together these uncertainty relations one finds that the model of random fluctuations of the background metric is favored over the holographic one.
Holographic Ricci dark energy has been proposed ago has faced with problems of future singularity. In the present work we consider the Ricci dark energy with an additive constant in it's density as running vacuum energy. We have analytically solved the Friedmann equations and also the role played by the general conservation law followed by the cosmic components together. We have shown that the running vacuum energy status of the Ricci dark energy helps to remove the possible future singularity in the model. The additive constant in the density of the running vacuum played an important role, su…
Holographic Ricci dark energy evolving through its interaction with dark matter is a natural choice for the running vacuum energy model. We have analyzed the relative significance of two versions of this model in the light of SNIa, CMB, BAO and Hubble data sets using the method Bayesian inferences. The first one, model 1, is the running holographic Ricci dark energy (rhrde) having a constant additive term in its density form and the second is one, model 2, having no additive constant, instead the interaction of rhrde with dark matter is accounted through a phenomenological coupling term. The B…
The holographic Ricci dark energy can be treated as a running vacuum due to its analogy in the energy density, which is a combination of $H$ and $\dot H$, the model can predict either eternal acceleration or eternal deceleration. In the earlier works, we have shown that the presence of additive constant in the energy density or by considering possible interaction between dark sectors through a phenomenological term, the model can predict a transition from a prior decelerated to a late accelerated epoch. This paper analyses the cosmic evolution of holographic Ricci dark energy as a running vacu…
Earlier studies have shown that, in a two component model of the universe with dark matter and the running vacuum energy which is phenomenologically a combination of $H^2$ and $\dot{H},$ produces either eternal deceleration or acceleration in the absence of a bare constant in the density of the running vacuum. In this paper we have shown that, in the interaction scenario, where the interaction between matter and vacuum is introduced through a phenomenological term, the two component model is capable of causing a transition from a prior decelerated to a later accelerated epoch without a bare co…
It is well-known that a constant $Λ$-term is a traditional building block of the concordance $Λ$CDM model. We show that this assumption is not necessarily the optimal one from the phenomenological point of view. The class of running vacuum models, with a possible running of the gravitational coupling G, are capable to fit the overall cosmological data SNIa+BAO+H(z)+LSS+BBN+CMB better than the $Λ$CDM, namely at a level of $\sim 3σ$ and with Akaike and Bayesian information criteria supporting a strong level of statistical evidence on this fact. Here we report on the results of such analysis.
We perform a comparative study of different types of dynamical dark energy models (DDES) using the cosmographic method. Among the models being examined herein we have the Running Vacuum models (RVMs), which have demonstrated considerable ability to fit the overall cosmological data at a level comparable to the standard cosmological model, $Λ$CDM, and capable of alleviating the $σ_8$ and $H_0$ tensions. At the same time we address a variety of Holographic dark energy models (HDEs) with different options for the time (redshift)-varying model parameter $c=c(z)$. We deal with the HDEs under the do…
The limitations of the approach based on using fields restricted to the lightfront (Lightfront Quantization or p$\to \infty $ Frame Approach) which drive quantum fields towards canonical and ultimately free fields are well known. Here we propose a new concept which does not suffer from this limitation. It is based on a procedure which cannot be directly formulated in terms of pointlike fields but requires ``holographic'' manipulations of the algebras generated by those fields. We illustrate the new concepts in the setting of factorizable d=1+1 models and show that the known fact of absence of …
We study the running vacuum model in which the vaccum energy density depends on square of Hubble parameter in comparison with the $Λ$CDM model. In this work, the Bayesian inference method is employed to test against the standard $Λ$CDM model to appraise the relative significance of our model, using the combined data sets, Pantheon+CMB+BAO and Pantheon+CMB+BAO+Hubble data. The model parameters and the corresponding errors are estimated from the marginal likelihood function of the model parameters. Marginalizing over all model parameters with suitable prior, we have obtained the Bayes factor as …
It is shown that the correspondence principle and the holographic principle are incompatible in the background of an eternal Schwarzschild-anti-de Sitter geometry. The argument is based on the observation that algebraic structures of local quantum field and CFT operators are not equivalent. This implies, in particular, the bulk CFT must be singular near the black-hole horizon. A CFT Hilbert space representation is elaborated which may correspond to the AdS black hole in the dual theory.
We construct the holographic p-wave superfluid in Gauss-Bonnet gravity via a Maxwell complex vector field model and investigate the effect of the curvature correction on the superfluid phase transition in the probe limit. We obtain the rich phase structure and find that the higher curvature correction hinders the condensate of the vector field but makes it easier for the appearance of translating point from the second-order transition to the first-order one or for the emergence of the Cave of Winds. Moreover, for the supercurrents versus the superfluid velocity, we observe that our results nea…
In this paper, we suggest that the early universe starts from a high-energetic state with a two dimensional description and the state recovers to be four dimensional when the universe evolves into the radiation dominated phase. This scenario is consistent with the recent viewpoint that quantum gravity should be effectively two dimensional in the ultraviolet and recovers to be four dimensional in the infrared. A relationship has been established between the running of effective dimension and that of the entropy inside particle horizon of the universe, i.e., as the effective dimension runs from …
We apply the holographic principle at the early universe, obtaining an inflation realization of holographic origin. Such a consideration has equal footing with its well-studied late-time application, and moreover the decrease of the horizons at early times naturally increases holographic energy density at inflationary scales. Taking as Infrared cutoff the particle or future event horizons, and adding a simple correction due to the Ultraviolet cutoff, whose role is non-negligible at the high energy scales of inflation, we result in a holographic inflation scenario that is very efficient in inco…
Two seemingly distinct notions regarding black holes have captured the imagination of theoretical physicists over the past decade: First, black holes are conjectured to be fast scramblers of information, a notion that is further supported through connections to quantum chaos and decay of mutual information via AdS/CFT holography. Second, black hole information paradox has motivated exotic quantum structure near horizons of black holes (e.g., gravastars, fuzzballs, or firewalls) that may manifest themselves through delayed gravitational wave echoes in the aftermath of black hole formation or me…
We investigate the holographic Renormalization Group (RG) flows and the critical phenomena that take place in the $QFT$'s dual to the d-dimensional cubic Quasi-Topological Gravity coupled to scalar matter. The knowledge of the corresponding flat Domain Walls(DWs) solutions, allows us to derive the explicit form of the $QFT$'s beta-functions as well as of the trace anomalies $a(l)$ and $c(l)$-functions in terms of the matter superpotential. As a consequence we are able to determine the complete set of $CFT$ data characterizing the universality classes of the UV and IR critical points and to fol…
For type IIB supergravity with a running axio-dilaton, we construct bulk solutions which admit a cosmological background metric of Friedmann-Robertson-Walker type. These solutions include both a dark radiation term in the bulk as well as a four-dimensional (boundary) cosmological constant, while gravity at the boundary remains non-dynamical. We holographically calculate the stress-energy tensor, showing that it consists of two contributions: The first one, generated by the dark radiation term, leads to the thermal fluid of N = 4 SYM theory, while the second, the conformal anomaly, originates f…
We, in the first part, contemplate a massless minimally coupled scalar which is Yukawa-coupled to a massless Dirac fermion in a locally de Sitter background of an inflating spacetime. We compute the scalar's quantum corrected mode function, power spectrum, spectral index and the running of the spectral index at one-loop order. We find that the spectrum is slightly blue-tilted; hence, the amplitudes of fluctuations grow slightly toward the smaller scales. Then, in the second part, we apply the computation method used in the first part to a massless minimally coupled scalar with a quartic self-i…
We show that a subgroup of the modular group of M-theory compactified on a ten torus, implies the Lorentzian structure of the moduli space, that is usually associated with naive discussions of quantum cosmology based on the low energy Einstein action. This structure implies a natural division of the asymptotic domains of the moduli space into regions which can/cannot be mapped to Type II string theory or 11D Supergravity (SUGRA) with large radii. We call these the safe and unsafe domains. The safe domain is the interior of the future light cone in the moduli space while the unsafe domain conta…
Detailed knowledge about equilibration processes is of interest for various fields of physics, including heavy ion collision experiments and quantum quenched condensed matter systems. We study the approach to equilibrium at late times within two types of strongly coupled thermal systems in 3+1 dimensions: systems in the presence of (i) a non-zero charge density, or (ii) a magnetic field at vanishing charge density. Utilizing the gauge/gravity correspondence, we map the aforementioned problem to the computation of quasinormal frequencies around two particular classes of black branes within the …
In a previous work [arXiv:2009.03428] we proposed a new model for Quantum GRavity(QGR) and cosmology, dubbed $SU(\infty)$-QGR. One of the axioms of this model is that Hilbert spaces of the Universe and its subsystems represent $SU(\infty)$ symmetry group. In this framework, the classical spacetime is interpreted as being the parameter space characterizing states of the $SU(\infty)$ representing Hilbert spaces. Using quantum uncertainty relations, it is shown that the parameter space - the spacetime - has a 3+1 dimensional Lorentzian geometry. Here after a review of $SU(\infty)$-QGR, including …
After about two decades of the first observational papers confirming the accelerated expansion of the universe, we are still facing the question whether the cause of it is a rigid cosmological constant $Λ$-term or a mildly evolving dynamical dark energy (DDE). While studies focusing mainly on CMB measurements do not perceive signs of physics beyond the $Λ$CDM, in this work we show that if we take a large string $SNIa+BAO+H(z)+LSS+CMB$ of modern cosmological observations, in which not only the CMB but also a rich sample of large scale structure formation data are included, one can extract $\sim…
