Unitary Representations of the inhomogeneous Lorentz Group and their Significance in Quantum Physics

In honor of Minkowski's great contribution to Special Relativity, celebrated at this conference, we first review Wigner's theory of the projective irreducible representations of the inhomogeneous Lorentz group. We also sketch those parts of Mackey's mathematical theory on induced representations which are particularly useful for physicists. As an important application of the Wigner-Mackey theory, we shall describe in a unified manner free classical and quantum fields for arbitrary spin, and demonstrate that locality implies the normal spin-statistics connection.

Global solutions of nonlinear wave equations in time dependent inhomogeneous media

We consider the problem of small data global existence for a class of semilinear wave equations with null condition on a Lorentzian background $(\mathbb{R}^{3+1}, g)$ with a \textbf{time dependent metric $g$} coinciding with Minkowski metric outside the cylinder $\{(t, x)| |x|\leq R\}$. We show that the small data global existence result can be reduced to two integrated local energy estimates and demonstrate these estimates in the particular case when $g$ is merely $C^1$ close to the Minkowski metric. Projective Representations of the Inhomogeneous Hamilton Group: Noninertial Symmetry in Quantum Mechanics

Symmetries in quantum mechanics are realized by the projective representations of the Lie group as physical states are defined only up to a phase. On the significance of the stress-energy tensor in Finsler spacetimes

We revisit the physical arguments which lead to the definition of the stress-energy tensor $T$ in the Lorentz-Finsler setting $(M,L)$ starting at classical Relativity. Both the standard heuristic approach using fluids and the Lagrangian one are taken into account. In particular, we argue that the Finslerian breaking of Lorentz symmetry makes $T$ an anisotropic 2-tensor (i. e., a tensor for each $L$-timelike direction), in contrast with the energy-momentum vectors defined on $M$. Reciprocal relativity of noninertial frames: quantum mechanics

Noninertial transformations on time-position-momentum-energy space {t,q,p,e} with invariant Born-Green metric ds^2=-dt^2+dq^2/c^2+(1/b^2)(dp^2-de^2/c^2) and the symplectic metric -de/\dt+dp/\dq are studied. This U(1,3) group of transformations contains the Lorentz group as the inertial special case. The Lie Group Structure of the $η-ξ$ Space-time and its Physical Significance

The $η-ξ$ space-time is suggested by Gui for the quantum field theory in 1988. This paper consists of two parts. The first part is devoted to the discussion of the global properties of the $η-ξ$ space-time. The result contains a proof which asserts that the $η-ξ$ space-time is homeomorphic to $\mathbb{C}^{*}\times \mathbb{C}^{*}\times \mathbb{C}^{2}$ by means of two explicit maps, which shows that the $η-ξ$ space-time allows a Lie group structure. Relativity implications of the quantum phase

The quantum phase leads to projective representations of symmetry groups in quantum mechanics. The projective representations are equivalent to the unitary representations of the central extension of the group.
