Multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock electric quadrupole (E2) and magnetic dipole (M1) transition probabilities are reported for transitions between levels of 3d^5 in [Fe IV]. The accuracy of the ab initio energy levels and the agreement in the length and velocity forms of the line strength for the E2 transitions are used as indicators of accuracy. The present E2 and M1 transition probabilities are compared with earlier Breit-Pauli results and other theories. An extensive set of transition probabilites with indicators of accuracy are reported in Appendices A and B. Recommended values of A(E2) + A(M1) are listed in Appendix C.
The multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) model has been employed to calculate the transition rates between the nine lowest levels of radium. The dominant rates were then used to evaluate the radiative lifetimes. The decay of the metastable $ 7s7p ^3 P_0 $ state through 2-photon E1M1 and hyperfine induced channels is also studied.
The multiconfigurational time-dependent Hartree-Fock method (MCTDHF) is applied for simulations of the two-photon ionization of Helium. We present results for the single- and double ionization from the groundstate for photon energies in the non-sequential regime, and compare them to direct solutions of the Schrödinger equation using the time-dependent (full) Configuration Interaction method (TDCI). We find that the single-ionization is accurately reproduced by MCTDHF, whereas the double ionization results correctly capture the main trends of TDCI.
The multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) model has been employed to calculate the expectation values for the hyperfine splittings of the 5d96s2 2D3/2 and 5d96s2 2D5/2 levels of atomic gold. One-, two-, and three-body electron correlation effects involving all 79 electrons have been included in a systematic manner. The approximation employed in this study is equivalent to a Complete Active Space (CAS) approach. Calculated electric field gradients, together with experimental values of the electric quadrupole hyperfine structure constants, allow us to extract a nuclear electric quadrupol…
We present an implementation of the multiconfiguration time-dependent Hartree-Fock method based on the adaptive finite element method for molecules under intense laser pulses. For efficient simulations, orbital functions are propagated by a stable propagator using the short iterative Arnoldi scheme and our implementation is parallelized for distributed memory computing. This is demonstrated by simulating high-harmonic generation from a water molecule and achieves a simulation of multielectron dynamics with overwhelmingly less computational time, compared to our previous work.
Large-scale calculations of atomic structures and radiative properties have been carried out for singly, doubly- and trebly ionized cerium. For this purpose, the purely relativistic multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) method was used, taking into account the effects of valence-valence and core-valence electronic correlations in detail. The results obtained were then used to calculate the expansion opacities characterizing the kilonovae observed as a result of neutron star mergers. Comparisons with previously published experimental and theoretical studies have shown that the results p…
The electron-ion recombination rate coefficient for Si IV forming Si III was measured at the heavy-ion storage-ring TSR. The experimental electron-ion collision energy range of 0-186 eV encompassed the 2p(6) nl n'l' dielectronic recombination (DR) resonances associated with 3s to nl core excitations, 2s 2p(6) 3s nl n'l' resonances associated with 2s to nl (n=3,4) core excitations, and 2p(5) 3s nl n'l' resonances associated with 2p to nl (n=3,...,infinity) core excitations. The experimental DR results are compared with theoretical calculations using the multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock (MCDF) meth…
The multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) method has been employed to calculate atomic electric dipole moments (EDM) of 225^Ra, 199^Hg, and 171^Yb. For the calculations of the matrix elements we extended the relativistic atomic structure package GRASP2K. The extension includes programs to evaluate matrix elements of (P, T)-odd e-N tensor-pseudotensor and pseudoscalar-scalar interactions, the atomic electric dipole interaction, the nuclear Schiff moment, and the interaction of the electron electric dipole moment with nuclear magnetic moments. The interelectronic interactions were accoun…
We report a three-dimensional numerical implementation of multiconfiguration time-dependent Hartree-Fock (MCTDHF) based on a multi-resolution Cartesian grid, with no need to assume any symmetry of molecular structure. We successfully compute high-harmonic generation (HHG) of H2 and H2O. The present implementation will open a way to the first-principle theoretical study of intense-field and attosecond-pulse induced ultrafast phenomena in general molecules.
We use the multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) method combined with the relativistic configuration interaction (RCI) approach (GRASP2K) to provide a consistent set of transition energies and radiative transition data for the lower $n =3$ states in all Cl-like ions of astrophysical importance, from \ion{Cr}{8} to \ion{Zn}{14}. We also provide excitation energies calculated for \mbox{Fe X} using the many-body perturbation theory (MBPT, implemented within FAC). The comparison of the present MCDHF results with MBPT and with the available experimental energies indicates that the theoretic…

We report calculations of energy levels and oscillator strengths for transitions in W XL, undertaken with the general-purpose relativistic atomic structure package ({\sc grasp}) and flexible atomic code ({\sc fac}). Comparisons are made with existing results and the accuracy of the data is assessed. Discrepancies with the most recent results of S. Aggarwal et al. [Can. J. Phys. {\bf 91} (2013) 394] are up to 0.4 Ryd and up to two orders of magnitude for energy levels and oscillator strengths, respectively. Discrepancies for lifetimes are even larger, up to four orders of magnitude for some lev…
Using the multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock and the relativistic configuration interaction methods, a consistent set of transition energies and radiative transition data for the lowest 546 (623, 701, 745) states of the $3p^4 3d$, $3s 3p^2 3d^2$, $3s 3p^3 4p$, $3s 3p^4$, $3s^2 3d^3$, $3s^2 3p^2 3d$, $3s^2 3p^2 4d$, $3s^2 3p^2 4s$, $3p^3 3d^2$, $3p^5$, $3s 3p 3d^3$, $3s 3p^3 3d$, $3s 3p^3 4s$, $3s^2 3p 3d^2$, %$3s^2 3p^2 4f$, $3s^2 3p^2 4p$, $3s^2 3p^3$ configurations in Mn~XI (Fe~XII, Co~XIII, Ni~XIV) is provided. The comparison between calculated excitation energies for the $n=4$ states an…
The present work reports results from systematic multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock calculations of isotope shifts for several well-known transitions in neutral magnesium. Relativistic normal and specific mass shift factors as well as the electronic probability density at the origin are calculated. Combining these electronic quantities with available nuclear data, energy and transition level shifts are determined for the $^{26}$Mg$-^{24}$Mg pair of isotopes. Different models for electron correlation are adopted. It is shown that although valence and core-valence models provide accurate valu…
Simulations of radiation damage in single molecule imaging using a X-ray free electron laser use atomic rates calculated in the lowest order. We investigate the difference in ion yield predictions using Hartree-Fock and Hartree-Fock-Slater pproximations for light and heavy elements of biological significance. The results show that for the biologically abundant elements of the second and third rows of the periodic table both approximations agree to about 6%. For the heavier elements beyond the fourth row the discrepancy rices to 11% for the range of the pulse parameters covered in this work. Pr…
Positron binding to anions is investigated within the work formalism proposed by Harbola and Sahni for the halide anions and the systems Li^- through O^- excluding Be^- and N^-. The toal ground-state energies of the anion-positron bound systems are empirically found to be an upper bound to the Hartree-Fock energies. The computed expectation values as well as positron and positronium affinities are in good agreement with their restricted Hartree-Fock counterparts. Binding of a positron to neutral species is also investigated using an iterative method.
The multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock theory (MCDHF) has been employed to calculate the electric dipole moment of the 7s6d 3D2 state of radium induced by the nuclear Schiff moment. The results are dominated by valence and core-valence electron correlation effects. We show that the correlation effects can be evaluated in a converged series of multiconfiguration expansions.
It is found that, in closed-$l$-subshell atoms, the exact local exchange potential of the density functional theory is very well represented, within the region of every atomic shell, by each of the suitably shifted potentials obtained with the non-local Fock exchange operator acting on the Hartree-Fock (HF) orbitals that belong to this shell. This explains the outstanding proximity of Kohn-Sham and HF orbitals and the high quality of the Krieger-Li-Iafrate and localized HF (or, equivalently, common-energy-denominator) approximations to the exchange potential.
In this short paper, the validity of Koopmans' theorem in the Hartree-Fock theory at non-zero temperature (Hartree-Fock statistical theory) is investigated. It is shown that Koopmans' theorem does not apply in the grand-canonical ensemble, due to a missing contribution to the energy proportional to the interaction between two electrons belonging to the same orbital. Hartree-Fock statistical theory has also been applied in the canonical ensemble [Blenski et al., Phys. Rev. E 55, R4889 (1997)] for the purpose of photo-absorption calculations. In that case, the Hartree-Fock self-consistent-field …
