We develop the holographic renormalization of AdS_2 gravity systematically. We find that a bulk Maxwell term necessitates a boundary mass term for the gauge field and verify that this unusual term is invariant under gauge transformations that preserve the boundary conditions. We determine the energy-momentum tensor and the central charge, recovering recent results by Hartman and Strominger. We show that our expressions are consistent with dimensional reduction of the AdS_3 energy-momentum tensor and the Brown--Henneaux central charge. As an application of our results we interpret the entropy of AdS_2 black holes as the ground state entropy of a dual CFT.
The holographic complexity and fidelity susceptibility have been defined as new quantities dual to different volumes in AdS. In this paper, we will use these new proposals to calculate both of these quantities for a variety of interesting deformations of AdS. We obtain the holographic complexity and fidelity susceptibility for an AdS black hole, Janus solution and a solution with cylindrically symmetry, an inhomogeneous background and a hyperscaling violating background. We investigate the behaviors of holographic entanglement entropy for AdS soliton geometries in the presence of higher derivative corrections. We calculate the leading higher derivative corrections for the AdS5 setup in type IIB string and for the AdS4,7 ones in M-theory. We also study the holographic entanglement entropy in Gauss-Bonnet gravity and study how the confinement/deconfinement phase transition observed in AdS solitons is affected by the higher derivative corrections.
In this paper, we will compute the holographic complexity (dual to a volume in AdS), holographic fidelity susceptibility and the holographic entanglement entropy (dual to an area in AdS) in a two-dimensional version of $AdS$ which is dual to open strings. We study holographic superconductors in the Schwarzschild-AdS black hole with a global monopole through a charged complex scalar field. We calculate the condensates of the charged operators in the dual conformal field theories (CFTs) and discuss the effects of the global monopole on the condensation formation. Moreover, we compute the electric conductive using the probe approximation and find that the properties of the conductive are quite similar to those in the Schwarzschild-AdS black hole. We analytically study the holographic superfluid phase transition in the AdS soliton background by using the variational method for the Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue problem. By investigating the holographic s-wave and p-wave superfluid models in the probe limit, we observe that the spatial component of the gauge field will hinder the phase transition. Moreover, we note that, different from the AdS black hole spacetime, in the AdS soliton background the holographic superfluid phase transition always belongs to the second order and the critical exponent of the system takes the mean-field value in …
We give a holographic argument in favor of the AdS Penrose inequality, which conjectures a lower bound on the total mass in terms of the area of apparent horizons. This inequality is often viewed as a test of cosmic censorship. We further find a connection between the area law for apparent horizons and the Penrose inequality. Finally, we show that the argument also applies to solutions with charge, resulting in a charged Penrose inequality in AdS.
We propose a way to obtain holographic cosmology models for 3+1 dimensional cosmologies vs. 3 dimensional field theories from a "dimensional reduction" procedure, obtained by integrating over the time direction, of (modifed) standard holographic duals of 3+1 dimensional field theories. The example of a modified ${\cal N}=4$ SYM vs. $AdS_5\times S^5$ is presented, and in perturbation theory doesn't match observations, though at strong coupling it might. But the proposed mechanism is more general, and it could in principle be applied to other top down holographic models.
We use the causal horizon entropy to study the asymptotic behaviors of regular AdS black holes. In some literature, the causal horizon entropy is regarded as a generalized holographic $c$-function. In this paper, we apply this idea to the case of regular AdS black holes. We show that the causal horizon entropy decreases to zero at the center of regular AdS black holes and in particular it is stationary because its derivative with respect to the affine parameter approaches zero asymptotically. In this letter, we systematically explore the holographic (non-)relativistic fermionic spectrum without/with dipole coupling dual to Born-Infeld anti-de Sitter (BI-AdS) black hole. For the relativistic fermionic fixed point, this holographic fermionic system exhibits non-Fermi liquid behavior. Also, with the increase of BI parameter $γ$, the non-Fermi liquid becomes even "more non-Fermi". When the dipole coupling term is included, we find that the BI term makes it a lot tougher to form the gap. We investigate the holographic DC and Hall conductivity in massive Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton (EMD) gravity. Two special EMD backgrounds are considered explicitly. One is dyonic Reissner-Nordstr$\ddot{o}$m-AdS (RN-AdS) geometry and the other one is hyperscaling violation AdS (HV-AdS) geometry. We find that the linear-T resistivity and quadratic-T inverse Hall angle can be simultaneously achieved in HV-AdS models, providing a hint to construct holographic models confronting with the experimental data of strange metal in future.
A family of deformed black branes is employed to examine the confinement/deconfinement phase transition in AdS/QCD. The holographic entanglement entropy (HEE) plays the role of the order parameter driving the confinement/deconfinement phase transition. The binding energy of quark-antiquark bound states and the critical length that makes a null variation of the HEE, together with the critical temperature separating the deconfined quark-gluon plasma to the confined hadronic phase, are discussed in the deformed black brane background, matching current experimental hadronic data.
Computing the holographic entanglement entropy proposed by Ryu-Takayanagi shows that thermal energy near boundary region in $AdS_3$ gain maximum of the temperature. Counterterm actions are constructed along the ADM formalism. It is shown that the counterterm action can be intrinsically written in terms of intrinsic boundary geometry. Using the expression of counterterm action, we obtain a general form of the counterterm action available for any $d$-dimensional spherical boundary. We investigate the properties of holographic heat engines with an uncharged accelerating non-rotating AdS black hole as the working substance in a benchmarking scheme. We find that the efficiencies of the black hole heat engines can be influenced by both the size of the benchmark circular cycle and the cosmic string tension as a thermodynamic variable. In general, the efficiency can be increased by enlarging the cycle, but is still constrained by a universal bound $2π/(π+4)$ as expected. We present a calculation of two-point correlation functions of the stress-energy tensor in the strongly-coupled, confining gauge theory which is holographically dual to the AdS soliton geometry. The fact that the AdS soliton smoothly caps off at a certain point along the holographic direction, ensures that these correlators are dominated by quasinormal mode contributions and thus show an exponential decay in position space. We present a solution of Einstein equations describing a $d$-dimensional planar quintessence AdS black hole which depends on the state parameter $w_q$ of quintessence. We investigate holographic superconductors in this background and probe effects of the state parameter $w_q$ on the critical temperature $T_c$, the condensation formation and conductivity. In this work, we formulate a Non-Commutative (NC) extension of AdS-CFT correspondence that is manifested in the modification of behavior of a holographic superconductor. The noncommutativity is introduced in the model through the NC corrected AdS charged black hole metric developed by Nicolini, Smailagic and Spallucci. We extend our topological renormalization scheme for Entanglement Entropy to holographic CFTs of arbitrary odd dimensions in the context of the AdS/CFT correspondence. The procedure consists in adding the Chern form as a boundary term to the area functional of the Ryu-Takayanagi minimal surface. We study a non-relativistic limit of physics in AdS which retains the curvature through a harmonic Newtonian potential. This limit appears in a CFT dual through the spectrum of operators of large dimension and correlation functions of those operators with appropriate kinematics. In an additional flat spacetime limit, the spectrum is determined by scattering phase shifts (proportional to anomalous dimensions), and a CFT correlation function is proportional to the S-matrix. We investigate the holographic fermions in the charged Gauss-Bonnet $AdS_{d}$ black hole background with the dipole coupling between fermion and gauge field in the bulk. We show that in addition to the strength of the dipole coupling, the spacetime dimension and the higher curvature correction in the gravity background also influence the onset of the Fermi gap and the gap distance. We find that the higher curvature effect modifies the fermion spectral density and influences the value of the Fermi momentum for the appearance of the Fermi surface. After a brief introduction to the AdS/CFT holography a tachyon inflation will be discussed in the framework of holographic cosmology. The model is based on a holographic braneworld scenario with an effective tachyon field on a D3-brane located at the holographic bound of an asymptotic ADS$_5$ bulk.
Holographic Renormalization Group (RG) in nine dimensions is considered. The d8 holographic conformal anomaly is found. It should correspond to d8 CFT in AdS_9/CFT_8 correspondence. Lifshitz space-times with critical exponent z=2 can be obtained by dimensional reduction of Schroedinger space-times with critical exponent z=0. We present a general procedure for constructing tensor networks for geometric states in the Anti-de Sitter/Conformal Field Theory (AdS/CFT) correspondence. Given a state in a large-$N$ CFT with a static, semiclassical gravitational dual, our procedure produces a tensor network for the boundary state whose internal geometry matches (a discretization of) the bulk spacetime geometry. By invoking the "holographic entanglement of purification" conjecture, our construction can be made to capture the structure of the bulk spacetime at sub-AdS scales.
In this paper, we will analyse the holographic complexity for time-dependent asymptotically $AdS$ geometries. We will first use a covariant zero mean curvature slicing of the time-dependent bulk geometries, and then use this co-dimension one spacelike slice of the bulk spacetime to define a co-dimension two minimal surface. The time-dependent holographic complexity will be defined using the volume enclosed by this minimal surface. In this note we study the symmetry-breaking phases of 3D gravity coupled to matter. In particular, we consider black holes with scalar hair as a model of symmetry-breaking phases of a strongly coupled 1+1 dimensional CFT. In the case of a discrete symmetry, we show that these theories admit metastable phases of broken symmetry and study the thermodynamics of these phases. We also demonstrate that the 3D Einstein-Maxwell theory shows continuous symmetry breaking at low temperature. The apparent contradiction with the Coleman-Mermin-Wagner theorem is discussed.
In this paper, we study the Lorentzian AdS wormhole solutions constructed in arXiv:0808.2481 [hep-th]. Each of them is a classical solution interpolating between an AdS space and a flat space in type IIB supergravity. We calculate the holographic entanglement entropy to probe this geometry. Our analysis shows that there exits a mass gap in its holographic dual gauge theory and that the entanglement between the two boundaries is rather suppressed than that we naively expect for wormholes. We also examine the holographic conductivity on a probe D-brane in this spacetime.
We study an analog hydrodynamic model that mimics a 3+1 AdS planar BH spacetime dual to a 2+1-dimensional superconductor. We demonstrate that the AdS$_4$ bulk and its holographic dual could be realized in nature in an analog gravity model based on fluid dynamics. In particular we mimic the metric of an $O_2$ holographic superconductor and calculate the entanglement entropy of a conveniently designed subsystem at the boundary of the analog AdS$_4$ bulk.
We prove a positive volume theorem for asymptotically AdS spacetimes: the maximal volume slice has nonnegative vacuum-subtracted volume, and the vacuum-subtracted volume vanishes if and only if the spacetime is identically pure AdS. Under the Complexity=Volume proposal, this constitutes a positive holographic complexity theorem. The result features a number of parallels with the positive energy theorem, including the assumption of an energy condition that excludes false vacuum decay (the AdS weak energy condition). The aim of the present letter is to find the holographic entanglement entropy (HEE) in 2D holographic superconductors (HSC). Indeed, it is possible to compute the exact form of this entropy due to an advantage of approximate solutions inside normal and superconducting phases with backreactions. The Anti-de Sitter (AdS) black hole with lattice structure plays an essential role in the study of the optical conductivity in holographic approach. We investigate the instability of this sort of black holes which may lead to the holographic description of charge density waves. In the presence of homogeneous axion fields, we show that the instability of AdS-Reissner-Nordström(AdS-RN) black hole is always suppressed. We study holographic superconductors in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We consider two particular backgrounds: a $d$-dimensional Gauss-Bonnet-AdS black hole and a Gauss-Bonnet-AdS soliton. We discuss in detail the effects that the mass of the scalar field, the Gauss-Bonnet coupling and the dimensionality of the AdS space have on the condensation formation and conductivity. We also study the ratio $ω_g/T_c $ for various masses of the scalar field and Gauss-Bonnet couplings.
We examine the five-region holographic entropy cone inequalities for the special case of the AdS$_3$-Vaidya metric for a variety of boundary configurations. This is done by numerically solving the geodesic equation in the bulk for various boundary configurations. In all the cases we examine, we find that all the inequalities are satisfied when the bulk satisfies the null energy condition, while the inequalities are all violated when the bulk spacetime violates the null energy condition. We propose a holographic entanglement negativity conjecture involving the bulk geometry, for mixed states of adjacent intervals in $(1+1)$-dimensional dual conformal field theories through the $AdS/CFT$ correspondence. We study the finite term of the holographic entanglement entropy of finite domains with smooth shapes and for four dimensional gravitational backgrounds. Analytic expressions depending on the unit vectors normal to the minimal area surface are obtained for both stationary and time dependent spacetimes. We study thermalization of a strongly coupled theory holographically dual to a thin shell of null dust with non-zero angular momentum collapsing to Kerr-AdS. We calculate thermalization time for two point correlation functions. It happens that in the 3-dimensional case the thermalization time is just proportional to the distance between points where the correlator is evaluated. This is a very surprising and rather unexpected generalization of the same relation in the case of zero momentum.
We derive the four-point correlators of scalar operators of dimension one in the supergravity limit of the D1D5 CFT holographically dual to string theory on AdS$_3\times S^3\times \mathcal{M}$, with $\mathcal{M}$ either $T^4$ or $K3$. We avoid the use of Witten diagrams but deduce our result from a limit of the heavy-heavy-light-light correlators computed in arXiv:1705.09250, together with several consistency requirements of the OPE in the various channels. This result represents the first holographic correlators of single-trace operators computed in AdS$_3$.
We look into the $AdS$ black holes from two-dimensional gravity perspective. In this work, we extend the previous results of holographic renormalization group flows to dimensions two. By introducing a superpotential, we derive the flow equations in two-dimensional dilaton gravity. We find a quantity which monotonically decreases along flows and give some comments on holographic $c$-theorem. In this Letter, we consider a Non-Commutative (NC) extension of AdS-CFT correspondence and its effects on holographic superconductors. NC corrections are incorporated via the NC generalization of Schwarzschild black hole metric in AdS with the probe limit. We study NC effects on the relations connecting the charge density and the critical temperature of the Holographic Superconductors. Furthermore, condensation operator of the superconductor has been analyzed. Our results suggest that generically, NC effects increase the critical temperature of the holographic superconductor.
We calculate the holographic conformal anomaly and brane Newton potential when bulk is 5d AdS BH. It is shown that such anomaly is the same as in the case of pure AdS or (asymptotically) dS bulk spaces, i.e. it is (bulk) metric independent one. While Newton potential on the static brane in AdS BH is different from the one in pure AdS space, the gravity trapping still occurs for two branes system. This indicates to metric independence of gravity localization.
In this paper, we will propose a universal relation between the holographic complexity (dual to a volume in AdS) and the holographic entanglement entropy (dual to an area in AdS). We establish our recently proposed holographic entanglement negativity conjecture for mixed states of adjacent subsystems in conformal field theories with concrete higher dimensional examples. In this context we compute the holographic entanglement negativity for mixed states of adjacent subsystems in $d$-dimensional conformal field theories dual to bulk $AdS_{d+1}$ vacuum and $AdS_{d+1}$-Schwarzschild black holes. These representative examples provide strong indication for the universality of our conjecture which affirms significant implications for diverse applications.
We show that in general holographic stress tensor may contain a new term of divergence of a spacelike unit normal acceleration. Then, it is shown that in contrast to previous descriptions, a new stress tensor for Kerr-AdS solutions can be a traceless one. Interestingly, this prescription entails a local failure on the IR-UV connection.
Conformal deformations manifest in the AdS/CFT correspondence as boundary conditions on the AdS field. Heretofore, double-trace deformations have been the primary focus in this context. To better understand multitrace deformations, we revisit the relationship between the generating AdS partition function for a free bulk theory and the boundary CFT partition function subject to arbitrary conformal deformations. A holographic derivation of the entanglement entropy in quantum (conformal) field theories is proposed from AdS/CFT correspondence. We argue that the entanglement entropy in d+1 dimensional conformal field theories can be obtained from the area of d dimensional minimal surfaces in AdS_{d+2}, analogous to the Bekenstein-Hawking formula for black hole entropy. We show that our proposal perfectly reproduces the correct entanglement entropy in 2D CFT when applied to AdS_3. We also compare the entropy computed in AdS_5 \times S^5 with that of the free N=4 super Yang-Mills.
