We consider the three basic seesaw scenarios (with fermionic singlets, scalar triplets or fermionic triplets) and discuss their phenomenology, aside from neutrino masses. We use the effective field theory approach and compare the dimension-six operators characteristic of these models. We discuss the possibility of having large dimension-six operators and small dimension-five (small neutrino masses) without any fine-tuning, if the lepton number is violated at a low energy scale. Finally, we discuss some peculiarities of the phenomenology of the fermionic triplet seesaw model.
We investigate the LHC discovery potential for electroweak scale heavy neutrino singlets (seesaw I), scalar triplets (seesaw II) and fermion triplets (seesaw III). For seesaw I we consider a heavy Majorana neutrino coupling to the electron or muon. For seesaw II we concentrate on the likely scenario where the new scalars decay to two leptons. For seesaw III we restrict ourselves to heavy Majorana fermion triplets decaying to light leptons plus gauge or Higgs bosons, which are dominant except for unnaturally small mixings. The possible signals are classified in terms of the charged lepton multi…
In left-right symmetric seesaw models an eight-fold degeneracy among the right-handed neutrino mass matrices is known to exist. We use stability and viability of leptogenesis as criteria in order to discriminate among the degenerate solutions and to partially lift the eight-fold degeneracy.
We propose a left-right symmetric framework with universal seesaw mechanism for the generation of masses of the Standard Model quarks and leptons. Heavy vector-like singlet quarks and leptons are required for generation of Standard Model-like quark and lepton masses through seesaw mechanism. A softly broken $Z_2$ symmetry distinguishes the lepton sector and the quark sector of the model. This leads to the presence of some lepton-specific interactions that can produce unique collider signatures which can be explored at the current Large Hadron Collider run and also future colliders.
We study the search potential of heavy triplet leptons in Type III Seesaw mechanism at future high-energy and high-luminosity muon colliders. The impact of up-to-date neutrino oscillation results is taken into account on neutrino parameters and the consequent decay patterns of heavy leptons in Type III Seesaw. The three heavy leptons in the Casas-Ibarra parametrization with diagonal unity matrix are distinguishable in their decay modes. We consider the pair production of charged triplet leptons $E^+ E^-$ through both $μ^+μ^-$ annihilation and vector boson fusion (VBF) processes. The leading-or…
We present a gauge model for the bimaximal mixing pattern among the neutrinos that explains both the atmospheric and solar neutrino data via large angle vacuum oscillation among the three known neutrinos. The model does not include righthanded neutrinos but additional Higgs triplets which acquire naturally small vev's due to the type II seesaw mechanism. A combination of global $L_e-L_μ-L_τ$ and $S_3$ symmetries constrain the mass matrix for both charged leptons and neutrinos in such a way that the bimaximal pattern emerges naturally at the tree level and needed splittings among neutrinos at t…
We present a class of models with a third generation seesaw mixing with new vector-like weak-doublet quarks. We analyze a low-energy phenomenology and present several strong dynamics, high-energy realizations of these models. In the Topcolor type scenario, named Top-Bottom Color, we obtain an effective, composite two Higgs doublet model where the third generation isospin splitting is introduced via tilting interactions related to the broken non-abelian gauge groups (i.e. without strong, triviality-sensitive U(1) groups). In addition, we discuss $t\bar{t}$ production at the Next Linear Collider…
We consider an extension of the Standard Model (SM) augmented by two neutral singlet fermions per generation and a leptoquark. In order to generate the light neutrino masses and mixing, we incorporate inverse seesaw mechanism. The right handed neutrino production in this model is significantly larger than the conventional inverse seesaw scenario. We analyze the different collider signatures of this model and find that the final states associated with three or more leptons, multi jet and at least one b-tagged and (or) $τ$-tagged jet can probe larger RH neutrino mass scale. We have also proposed…
The convex geometric framework of positivity bounds allows us to explore the ultraviolet (UV) states in new physics models from the bottom up. The UV states in three types of seesaw models for tiny Majorana neutrino masses, as irreducible representations of the ${\rm SU}(2)^{}_{\rm L}$ gauge group, naturally fit into this framework. Since neutrino masses arising from the dimension-five Weinberg operator imply that the UV states may couple to the left-handed lepton doublet $L$ and the Higgs doublet $H $, we construct a convex cone of positivity bounds to constrain the dimension-eight operators …
We propose a radiative seesaw model with an inert triplet scalar field in which Majorana neutrino masses are generated at the two loop level. There are fermionic or bosonic dark matter candidates in the model. We find that each candidate can satisfy the WMAP data when its mass is taken to be around the half of the mass of the standard model like Higgs boson. We also discuss phenomenology of the inert triplet scalar bosons, especially focusing on the doubly-charged scalar bosons at Large Hadron Collider in parameter regions constrained by the electroweak precision data and WMAP data. We study h…
In the Standard Model, Yukawa couplings parametrize the fermion masses and mixing angles with the exception of neutrino masses. The hierarchies and apparent regularities among the quark and lepton masses are, however, otherwise a mystery. We propose a new class of models having vector-like fermions that can potentially address this problem and provide a new mechanism for fermion mass generation. The masses of the third and second generations of quarks and leptons arise at tree level via the seesaw mechanism from new physics at moderately higher scales, while loop corrections produce the masses…
We investigate neutrino mass matrix phenomenology involving scaling ansatz and texture zeros adhering inverse seesaw mechanism. It is seen that four is the maximum number of zeros in $m_D$ and $μ$ to obtain viable phenomenology. Depending upon the generic nature of the effective neutrino mass matrices we classify all the emerged matrices in four categories. One of them is ruled out phenomenologically due to inappropriate value of reactor mixing angle after breaking of the scaling ansatz. The mass ordering is inverted in all cases. One of the distinguishable feature of all these categories is t…
We construct a model realizing the inverse seesaw mechanism. The model has two types of gauge singlet fermions in addition to right-handed neutrinos. A required Majorana mass scale (keV scale) for generating the light active neutrino mass in the conventional inverse seesaw can be naturally explained by a "seesaw" mechanism between the two singlet fermions in our model. We find that our model can decrease the magnitude of hierarchy among the mass parameters by $\mathcal{O}(10^4)$ from that in the conventional inverse seesaw model. We also show that a successful resonant leptogenesis occurs for …
The seesaw mechanism for neutrino masses is introduced and some of its different realizations and applications are discussed. It is pointed out how they can be used to understand the bi-large mixing patterns among neutrinos in combination with assumptions about high scale physics such as grand unification or quasi-degeneracy of neutrino masses.
We present a minimal inverse seesaw mechanism by resorting to a $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge symmetry. In order to cancel the gauge anomalies, we introduce seven neutral fermions among which four participate in the inverse seesaw to induce two nonzero neutrino mass eigenvalues, two forms a stable Dirac fermion to become a dark matter, while the last one keeps massless but decouples early. In this inverse seesaw, two neutral fermions are the usual right-handed neutrinos while the other two have a small Majorana mass term. An additional seesaw mechanism for generating these small Majorana masses also expl…
We consider a mechanism for neutrino mass generation, based on a local B-L extension of the standard model, which becomes a linear seesaw regime for light neutrinos after spontaneous symmetry breaking. The spectrum of extra particles includes heavy neutrinos with masses near the TeV scale and a heavy Z' boson, as well as three extra neutral scalars and a charged scalar pair. We study the production and decays of these heavy particles at the LHC. Z' will decay mainly into heavy neutrino pairs or charged lepton pairs, similar to other low scale seesaw scenarios with local B-L, while the phenomen…
We discuss an inverse seesaw model based on right-handed fermion specific $U(1)$ gauge symmetry and $A_4$-modular symmetry. These symmetries forbid unnecessary terms and restrict structures of Yukawa interactions which are relevant to inverse seesaw mechanism. Then we can obtain some predictions in neutrino sector such as Dirac-CP phase and sum of neutrino mass, which are shown by our numerical analysis. Besides the relation among masses of heavy pseudo-Dirac neutrino can be obtained since it is also restricted by the modular symmetry. We also discuss implications to lepton flavor violation an…
The tau lepton plays important role in distinguishing neutrino mass patterns and determining the chirality nature in heavy scalar mediated neutrino mass models, in the light of the neutrino oscillation experiments and its polarization measurement. We investigate the lepton flavor signatures with tau lepton at LHC upgrades, i.e. HL-LHC, HE-LHC and FCC-hh, through leptonic processes from doubly charged Higgs in the Type II Seesaw. We find that for the channel with one tau lepton in final states, the accessible doubly charged Higgs mass at HL-LHC can reach 655 GeV and 695 GeV for the neutrino mas…
We consider a new Weinberg operator for neutrino mass of the form $H_u\tilde{H_d}L_iL_j$ involving two different Higgs doublets $H_u, H_d$ with opposite hypercharge, where $\tilde{H_d}$ is the charge conjugated doublet. It may arise from a model where the two Higgs doublets carry the same charge under a $U(1)'$ gauge group which forbids the usual Weinberg operator but allows the mixed one. The new Weinberg operator may be generated via two right-handed neutrinos oppositely charged under the $U(1)'$, which may be identified as components of a fourth vector-like family in a complete model. Such …
The appealing feature of inverse seesaw models is that the Standard Model (SM) neutrino mass emerges from the exchange of TeV scale singlets with sizable Yukawa couplings, which can be tested at colliders. However, the tiny Majorana mass splitting between TeV singlets, introduced to accommodate small neutrino masses, is left unexplained. Moreover, we argue that these models suffer from a structural limitation that prevents a successful leptogenesis if one insists on having unsuppressed Yukawa couplings and TeV scale singlets. In this work we propose a hybrid seesaw model, where we replace the …
The implementation of seesaw mechanisms to give mass to neutrinos in the presence of an anomaly-free U(1)_X gauge symmetry is discussed in the context of minimal extensions of the standard model. It is shown that type-I and type-III seesaw mechanisms cannot be simultaneously implemented with an anomaly-free local U(1)_X, unless the symmetry is a replica of the well-known hypercharge. For combined type-I/II or type-III/II seesaw models it is always possible to find nontrivial anomaly-free charge assignments, which are however tightly constrained, if the new neutral gauge boson is kinematically …
Using the family symmetry, in the neutrino mass matrix we remove the Yukawa coupling (arising in the Dirac type mass between the heavy neutrinos and light lepton doublets) dependence in the double seesaw mechanism so that it is directly proportional to the mass matrix $m^{(nn)}$ of heavy Majorana neutrinos. The family symmetry is supposed to be broken spontaneously at high energy scale so that the neutrino mass matrix is given by the family symmetry at high energy scale. With the permutation symmetry $S_3$, we note a variety of possible mass hierarchies arising distinctly in neutrinos, charged…
In the context of minimal seesaw framework, we study the implications of Dirac and Majorana mass matrices in which two rigid properties coexist, namely, equalities among mass matrix elements and texture zeros. In the first part of the study, we discuss general possibilities of the Dirac and Majorana mass matrices for neutrinos with such hybrid structures. We then classify the mass matrices into realistic textures which are compatible with global neutrino oscillation data and unrealistic ones which do not comply with the data. Among the large number of general possibilities, we find that only 6…
The inverse and linear seesaw scenarios are two typical extensions of the canonical seesaw mechanism, which contain much more sterile degrees of freedom but can naturally explain the smallness of three active neutrino masses at a sufficiently low energy scale (e.g., the TeV scale). To fully describe the mixing among three active neutrinos, three sterile neutrinos and three extra gauge-singlet neutral fermions in either of these two seesaw paradigms, we present the {\it first} full parametrization of the $9\times 9$ flavor mixing matrix in terms of 36 rotation angles and 36 CP-violating phases.…
We generalize the democratic neutrino mixing Ansatz by incorporating the type-II seesaw mechanism with S(3) flavor symmetry. We find that bilarge neutrino mixing can naturally appear if the flavor democracy contribution is strongly suppressed due to significant cancellation between the conventional seesaw and triplet mass terms. Explicit S(3) symmetry breaking yields successful neutrino phenomenology and various testable correlations between the neutrino mass and mixing parameters. Among the results are a normal neutrino mass ordering, $0.005 \le |U_{e3}| \le 0.057$, $1 - \sin^2 2θ_{23} \ge 0.…
Adding right-handed neutrino singlets and/or fermion triplets to the particle content of the Standard Model allows for the implementation of the seesaw mechanism to give mass to neutrinos and, simultaneously, for the construction of anomaly-free gauge group extensions of the theory. We consider Abelian extensions based on an extra U(1)_X gauge symmetry, where X is an arbitrary linear combination of the baryon number B and the individual lepton numbers L_{e,mu,tau}. By requiring cancellation of gauge anomalies, we perform a detailed analysis in order to identify the charge assignments under the…
We propose a new type of radiative seesaw model in which observed neutrino masses are generated through a three-loop level diagram in combination with tree-level type-II seesaw mechanism in a renormalizable theory. We introduce a Non-abelian flavor symmetry $T_7$ in order to constrain the form of Yukawa interactions and Higgs potential. Although several models based on a Non-abelian flavor symmetry predict the universal coupling constants among the standard model like Higgs boson and charged leptons, which is disfavored by the current LHC data, our model can avoid such a situation. We show a b…
We show that in TeV-scale left-right (L-R) symmetric seesaw models, there are new dominant contributions to the collider signals of heavy Majorana neutrinos arising from the heavy-light neutrino mixing, which directly probe the seesaw matrix in a certain class of models. We propose a way to distinguish this contribution from the widely discussed one that only probes the Majorana nature of the heavy right-handed neutrinos, by analyzing some simple kinematical variables. We find that in this class of L-R seesaw models the existing LHC data already yield slightly stronger constraints on the heavy…
Single and double universal seesaw mechanisms and the hypothesis of universal strength for Yukawa couplings are applied to formulate a unified theory of fermion mass spectrum in a model based on an extended Pati-Salam symmetry. Five kinds of Higgs fields are postulated to mediate scalar interactions among electroweak doublets of light fermions and electroweak singlets of heavy exotic fermions with relative Yukawa coupling constants of exponential form. At the first-order seesaw approximation, quasi-democratic mass matrices with equal diagonal elements are derived for all charged fermion sector…
The dileptonic decays of doubly-charged Higgs bosons H^{\pm\pm} are investigated in the minimal type-II seesaw model with one Higgs triplet Δand one heavy Majorana neutrino N_1 at the TeV scale. We show that the branching ratios {\cal B}(H^{\pm\pm} \to l^\pm_αl^\pm_β) depend not only on the mass and mixing parameters of three light neutrinos ν_i (for i=1,2,3), but also on those of N_1. Assuming the mass of N_1 to lie in the range 200 GeV--1 TeV, we figure out the generous interference bands for the contributions of ν_i and N_1 to {\cal B}(H^{\pm\pm} \to l^\pm_αl^\pm_β): \sqrt{|\sinθ_{i4} \sinθ…
The cosmological evolution of neutrino energy densities driven by cosmon-type field equations is introduced assuming that active and sterile neutrinos are intrinsically connected by cosmon fields through the {\em seesaw} mechanism. Interpreting sterile neutrinos as dark matter adiabatically coupled with dark energy results in a natural decoupling of (active) mass varying neutrino (MaVaN) equations. Identifying the dimensionless scale of the {\em seesaw} mechanism, $m/M$, with a power of the cosmological scale factor, $a$, allows for embedding the resulting masses into the generalized Chaplygin…
We show that MSSM with three right handed neutrinos incorporating a renormalizable Type-I seesaw superpotential and no-scale SURGA Kähler potential can lead to a Starobinsky kind of inflation potential along a flat direction associated with gauge invariant combination of Higgs, slepton and right handed sneutrino superfields. The inflation conditions put constraints on the Dirac Yukawa coupling and the Majorana masses required for the neutrino masses and also demands the tuning among the parameters. The scale of inflation is set by the mass of the heaviest right handed neutrino. We also fit the…
An extension of the two Higgs doublet model including inverse seesaw neutrinos and neutral Higgs bosons was constructed based on the $A_4$ symmetry in order to explain the recent neutrino oscillation data. This model can distinguish two well-known normal and inverted order schemes of neutrino data once both the effective masses $m_β$ in tritium beta decays and $\langle m\rangle$ in the neutrinoless double beta decay are observed. The lepton flavor violating decays of the charged leptons $e_b\rightarrow e_aγ$, $μ\rightarrow3e$, the Standard model-like Higgs boson decays $h\rightarrow e_be_a$, a…
The minimal seesaw framework, embroiling the Dirac neutrino mass matrix $ M_D $ and the Majorana neutrino mass matrix $ M_R $, is quite successful to explain the current global-fit results of neutrino oscillation data. In this context, we consider most predictive forms of $ M_D $ and $ M_R $ with two simple parameters, respectively. Considering these matrices, we obtain the low energy neutrino mass matrix under type-I seesaw formalism which obeys $ μ-τ$ reflection symmetry and predicts $ θ_{23} = π/4$ and $ δ= \pm π/2 $. In the given set-up, we also evaluate the Baryon Asymmetry of the Univers…
We propose a scheme in that the masses of the heavier leptons obey seesaw type relations. The light lepton masses, except the electron and the electron neutrino ones are generated by one loop level radiative corrections. We work in a version of the 3-3-1 electroweak model that predicts singlets (charged and neutral) of heavy leptons beyond the known ones. An extra U(1)_Omega symmetry is introduced in order to avoid the light leptons get masses at the tree level. The electron mass induces an explicit symmetry breaking at U(1). We discuss also the mixing matrix among four neutrinos. The new ener…
We calculate the ratio $R_{\ell\ell}$ of same sign (SS) to opposite sign (OS) dileptons in type I and generalized inverse seesaw models and show that it can be anywhere between 0 and 1 depending on the detailed texture of the right-handed neutrino mass matrix. Measurement of $R_{\ell\ell}$ in hadron colliders can therefore provide a way to probe the nature of seesaw mechanism and also to distinguish between the two types of seesaw mechanisms. We work within the framework of left-right symmetric model as an example. We emphasize that coherence of the final states in the $W_R$ decay is crucial f…
We analyze the left-right symmetric type I+II seesaw mechanism, where an eight-fold degeneracy among the mass matrices of heavy right-handed neutrinos M_R is known to exist. Using the stability property of the solutions and their ability to lead to successful baryogenesis via leptogenesis as additional criteria, we discriminate among these eight solutions and partially lift their eight-fold degeneracy. In particular, we find that viable leptogenesis is generically possible for four out of the eight solutions.
In the standard seesaw mechanism, finite corrections to the neutrino mass matrix arise from 1-loop self-energy diagrams mediated by a heavy neutrino. We study in detail these corrections and demonstrate that they can be very significant, exceeding in several cases the tree-level result. We consider the normal and inverted hierarchy spectra for light neutrinos and compute the finite corrections to the different elements of the neutrino mass matrix. Special attention is paid to their dependence with the parameters of the seesaw model. Among the cases in which the corrections can be large, we ide…
Type I and type II seesaw contributions to the mass matrix of light neutrinos are inherently related if left-right symmetry is realized at high energy scales. We investigate implications of such a relation for the interpretation of neutrino data. We proved recently that the left-right symmetric seesaw equation has eight solutions, related by a duality property, for the mass matrix of right-handed neutrinos $M_R$. In this paper the eight allowed structures of $M_R$ are reconstructed analytically and analyzed numerically in a bottom-up approach. We study the dependence of right-handed neutrino m…
We present a minimal model that simultaneously accounts for neutrino masses and the origin of dark matter (DM) and where the electroweak phase transition is strong enough to allow for electroweak baryogenesis. The Standard Model is enlarged with a Majorana fermion, three generations of chiral fermion pairs, and a single complex scalar that plays a central role in DM production and phenomenology, neutrino masses, and the strength of the phase transition. All the new fields are singlets under the SM gauge group. Neutrino masses are generated via a new variant of radiative inverse seesaw where th…
We propose a hybrid seesaw model based on $A_{4}$ flavor symmetry, which generates a large hierarchical flavor structure. In our model, tree-level and one-loop seesaw mechanisms predict different flavor structures in the neutrino mass matrix, and generate a notable hierarchy among them. We find that such a hierarchical structure gives a large effective neutrino mass which can be accessible by next-generation neutrinoless double beta decay experiments. Majorana phases can also be predictable. The $A_{4}$ flavor symmetry in the model is spontaneously broken to the $Z_{2}$ symmetry, leading to a …
To understand the observed pattern of neutrino masses and mixing as well as to account for the dark matter we propose a hybrid scoto-seesaw model based on the $A_4$ discrete flavor symmetry. In this setup, including at least two heavy right-handed neutrinos is essential to employ the discrete flavor symmetry that mimics once popular tribimaximal neutrino mixing at the leading order via type-I seesaw. The scotogenic contribution then acts as a critical deviation to reproduce the observed value of the reactor mixing angle $θ_{13}$ (within the trimaximal mixing scheme) and to accommodate potentia…
The singular seesaw mechanism can naturally explain the atmospheric neutrino deficit by the maximal oscillation between $ν_{μ_L}$ and $ν_{μ_R}$. This mechanism can also induce three different scales of neutrino mass squared differences, which can explain the neutrino deficits of three independent experiments (solar, atmospheric, and LSND) by neutrino oscillations. In this paper we show that the realistic mixing angles among neutrinos can be obtained by introducing the hierarchy in the Dirac neutrino mass. In the case where Majorana neutrino mass matrix has rank 2, the solar neutrino deficit is…
We present a novel way of testing the seesaw origin of neutrino mass in the context of the minimal Left-Right Symmetric Model. It is based on the connection between the leptonic interactions of the doubly charged scalars, whose presence is at the core of the seesaw mechanism, and the neutrino Dirac Yukawa couplings which govern, among other processes, the right-handed neutrino decays into left-handed charged leptons. We prove that any physical quantity depending on these couplings is a function of the hermitian part only which can significantly simplify their future experimental determination.
The seesaw mechanism is conceived on the basis that a mass scale, $ξ$, and a dimensionless scale, $s$, can be fine-tuned in order to control the dynamics of active and sterile neutrinos through cosmon-type equations of motion: the seesaw cosmon equations. This allows for sterile neutrinos to be a dark matter candidate. In this scenario, the dynamical masses and energy densities of active and sterile neutrinos can be consistently embedded into the generalized Chaplygin gas (GCG), the unified dark sector model. In addition, dark matter adiabatically coupled to dark energy allows for a natural de…
We consider supersymmetric models in which sneutrinos are viable dark matter candidates. These are either simple extensions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with additional singlet superfields, such as the inverse or linear seesaw, or a model with an additional U(1) group. All of these models can accomodate the observed small neutrino masses and large mixings. We investigate the properties of sneutrinos as dark matter candidates in these scenarios. We check for phenomenological bounds, such as correct relic abundance, consistency with direct detection cross section limits and labor…
We generalize the scalar triplet neutrino mass model, the type II seesaw. Requiring fine-tuning and arbitrarily small parameters to be absent leads to dynamical lepton number breaking at the electroweak scale and a rich LHC phenomenology. A smoking gun signature at the LHC that allows to distinguish our model from the usual type II seesaw scenario is identified. Besides, we discuss other interesting phenomenological aspects of the model such as the presence of a massless Goldstone boson and deviations of standard model Higgs couplings
We propose a gauged $U(1)_{B-L}$ extension of the standard model (SM) to explain simultaneously the light neutrino masses and dark matter (DM). The generation of neutrino masses occurs through a variant of type-II seesaw mechanism in which one of the scalar triplets lies at the TeV scale yet have a large dilepton coupling, which paves a path for probing this model at colliders. The gauging of $U(1)_{B-L}$ symmetry in a type-II seesaw framework introduces $B-L$ anomalies. Therefore we invoke three right handed neutrinos $ν_{R_{i}}$(i=1,2,3) with $B-L$ charges -4,-4,+5 to cancel the anomalies. W…
In the conventional type-(I+II) seesaw model, the effective mass matrix of three known light neutrinos is given by M_nu = M_L - M_D M^{-1}_R M^T_D in the leading-order approximation. We propose an intriguing scenario, in which the structural cancellation condition M_D M^{-1}_R M^T_D = 0 is guaranteed by the A_4 x Z_2 flavor symmetry. As a consequence, neutrino masses are mainly generated by the Higgs triplet M_nu = M_L, while the neutrino mixing matrix is non-unitary and takes on the nearly tri-bimaximal pattern. A discriminating feature of this scenario from the pure type-II seesaw model is t…
In this doctoral thesis, we study both low- and high-energy observables related to massive neutrinos. Neutrino oscillations have provided indisputable evidence in favour of non-zero neutrino masses and mixings. However, the original formulation of the Standard Model cannot account for these observations, which calls for the introduction of new Physics. Among many possibilities, we focus here on the inverse seesaw, a neutrino mass generation mechanism in which the Standard Model is extended with fermionic gauge singlets. This model offers an attractive alternative to the usual seesaw realisatio…
The minimal SU(5) theory augmented by the fermionic adjoint representation restores the coupling constant unification and gives realistic neutrino masses and mixing through the hybrid Type I and Type III seesaw. The crucial prediction of the theory is an SU(2) lepton triplet with the mass below TeV. We study the signature of these heavy leptons and propose the strategy to test this mechanism at the hadron and lepton colliders. The smoking gun evidence of the theory is Delta L=2 lepton number violation through events of a pair of like-sign leptons plus four jets without significant missing ener…
It is an experimental fact that the mass ratio for the two heavier neutrinos, h = m_3/m_2 < 6, is much smaller than the typical quark and lepton hierarchies, which are O(20-300). We have explored whether this peculiar pattern of neutrino masses can be a consequence of the peculiar way they are generated through a see-saw mechanism, determining 1) How the present experimental data restrict the structure of the high-energy seesaw parameters and 2) Which choices, among the allowed ones, produce more naturally the observed pattern of neutrino masses. We have studied in particular if starting with …
We investigate supersymmetric scenarios in which neutrino masses are generated by effective d=6 operators in the Kahler potential, rather than by the standard d=5 superpotential operator. First, we discuss some general features of such effective operators, also including SUSY-breaking insertions, and compute the relevant renormalization group equations. Contributions to neutrino masses arise at low energy both at the tree level and through finite threshold corrections. In the second part we present simple explicit realizations in which those Kahler operators arise by integrating out heavy SU(2…
In the absence of direct evidence of new physics, any ultraviolet theory can be reduced to its specific set of low-energy effective operators. As a case study, we derive the effective field theory for the seesaw extension of the Standard Model, with sterile neutrinos of mass $M>m_W$. We systematically compute all Wilson coefficients generated at one loop. Hence, it becomes straightforward to (i) identify the seesaw parameters compatible with the smallness of neutrino masses; (ii) compute precision lepton observables, which may be sensitive to scales as large as $M\sim 10^3$ TeV; and (iii) esta…
