We consider aspects of Chern-Simons theory on L(p,q) lens spaces and its relation with matrix models and topological string theory on Calabi-Yau threefolds, searching for possible new large N dualities via geometric transition for non-SU(2) cyclic quotients of the conifold. To this aim we find, on one hand, some novel matrix integral representations of the SU(N) CS partition function in a generic flat background for the whole L(p,q) family and provide a solution for its large N dynamics; on the other, we perform in full detail the construction of a family of would-be dual closed string backgrounds via conifold geometric transition from T^*L(p,q). We can then explicitly prove that Gopakumar-Vafa duality in a fixed vacuum fails in the case q>1, and briefly discuss how it could be restored in a non-perturbative setting.
We prove Gopakumar-Vafa conjecture for local toric Calabi-Yau manifolds. It's also proved that the local Gopakumar-Vafa invariants of a given class at large genus vanish.
As an analogy to Gopakumar-Vafa conjecture on CY 3-folds, Klemm-Pandharipande defined GV type invariants on CY 4-folds using GW theory and conjectured their integrality. In this paper, we define stable pair type invariants on CY 4-folds and use them to interpret these GV type invariants. Examples are computed for both compact and non-compact CY 4-folds to support our conjectures.
In analogy with the Gopakumar-Vafa conjecture on CY 3-folds, Klemm and Pandharipande defined GV type invariants on Calabi-Yau 4-folds using Gromov-Witten theory and conjectured their integrality. In this paper, we propose a sheaf-theoretic interpretation of their genus zero invariants using Donaldson-Thomas theory on CY 4-folds. More specifically, we conjecture genus zero GV type invariants are $\mathrm{DT_{4}}$ invariants for one-dimensional stable sheaves on CY 4-folds. Some examples are computed for both compact and non-compact CY 4-folds to support our conjectures. We also propose an equiv…
We prove a formula for certain cubic $\Z_n$-Hodge integrals in terms of loop Schur functions. We use this identity to prove the Gromov-Witten/Donaldson-Thomas correspondence for local $\Z_n$-gerbes over $\proj^1$.
This article explains how to construct immersed Lagrangian submanifolds in C^2 that are asymptotic at large distance from the origin to a given braid in the 3-sphere. The self-intersections of the Lagrangians are related to the crossings of the braid. These Lagrangians are then used to construct immersed Lagrangians in the vector bundle O(-1) oplus O(-1) over the Riemann sphere which are asymptotic at large distance from the zero section to braids.
We show that partition function of Chern-Simons theory on three-sphere with classical and exceptional groups (actually on the whole corresponding lines in Vogel's plane) can be represented as ratio of respectively triple and double sine functions (last function is essentially a modular quantum dilogarithm). The product representation of sine functions gives Gopakumar-Vafa structure form of partition function, which in turn gives a corresponding integer invariants of manifold after geometrical transition. In this way we suggest to extend gauge/string duality to exceptional groups, although one …
Gopakumar, Ooguri and Vafa famously proposed the existence of a correspondence between a topological gauge theory on one hand ($U(N)$ Chern-Simons theory on the three-sphere) and a topological string theory on the other (the topological A-model on the resolved conifold). On the physics side, this duality provides a concrete instance of the large $N$ gauge/string correspondence where exact computations can be performed in detail; mathematically, it puts forward a triangle of striking relations between quantum invariants (Reshetikhin-Turaev-Witten) of knots and 3-manifolds, curve-counting invari…
Gopakumar-Vafa large N duality is a correspondence between Chern-Simons invariants of a link in a 3-manifold and relative Gromov-Witten invariants of a 6-dimensional symplectic manifold relative to a Lagrangian submanifold. We address the correspondence between the Chern-Simons free energy of S^3 with no link and the Gromov-Witten invariant of the resolved conifold in great detail. This case avoids mathematical difficulties in formulating a definition of relative Gromov-Witten invariants, but includes all of the important ideas. There is a vast amount of background material related to this dua…

This is the second in a two-part paper devoted to studying entanglement entropy and edge modes in the A model topological string theory. This theory enjoys a gauge-string (Gopakumar-Vafa) duality which is a topological analogue of AdS/CFT. In part 1, we defined a notion of generalized entropy for the topological closed string theory on the resolved conifold. We provided a canonical interpretation of the generalized entropy in terms of the q-deformed entanglement entropy of the Hartle-Hawking state. We found string edge modes transforming under a quantum group symmetry and interpreted them as e…
Closed simple integral representation through Vogel's universal parameters is found both for perturbative and nonperturbative (which is inverse invariant group volume) parts of free energy of Chern-Simons theory on $S^3$. This proves the universality of that partition function. For classical groups it manifestly satisfy N \rightarrow -N duality, in apparent contradiction with previously used ones. For SU(N) we show that asymptotic of nonperturbative part of our partition function coincides with that of Barnes G-function, recover Chern-Simons/topological string duality in genus expansion and re…
We consider a generalization of the Borel resummation, which turns out to be equivalent to the standard Borel resummation. We apply it to the simplest large N duality between the pure Chern-Simons theory and the topological string on the resolved conifold, and find a simple integral formula for the free energy. Expanding this integral representation around the large radius point at finite string coupling gs, we find that it includes not only the M-theoretic resummation a la Gopakumar and Vafa, but also a non-perturbative correction in gs. Remarkably, the obtained non-perturbative correction is…
Recently Witten introduced a type IIB brane construction with certain boundary conditions to study knot invariants and Khovanov homology. The essential ingredients used in his work are the topologically twisted N = 4 Yang-Mills theory, localization equations and surface operators. In this paper we extend his construction in two possible ways. On one hand we show that a slight modification of Witten's brane construction could lead, using certain well defined duality transformations, to the model used by Ooguri-Vafa to study knot invariants using gravity duals. On the other hand, we argue that b…
We consider the Gopakumar-Ooguri-Vafa correspondence, relating ${\rm U}(N)$ Chern-Simons theory at large $N$ to topological strings, in the context of spherical Seifert 3-manifolds. These are quotients $\mathbb{S}^Γ = Γ\backslash\mathbb{S}^3$ of the three-sphere by the free action of a finite isometry group. Guided by string theory dualities, we propose a large $N$ dual description in terms of both A- and B-twisted topological strings on (in general non-toric) local Calabi-Yau threefolds. The target space of the B-model theory is obtained from the spectral curve of Toda-type integrable systems…
In the present work certain features of the Penner model, such its enumerative meaning and its relation to the Chern-Simons theory on the 3-sphere, are reviewed. Also, some features related to geometric transitions at the level of the observables are discussed. In this setup, the non commutative five dimensional U(1) Nekrasov partition function is interpreted as a limiting case of a mean value of the Ooguri-Vafa operator for a Chern-Simons model, which is dual to the A-model on a toric Calabi-Yau with $h_{1,1}=1$ and $h_{2,1}=2$. We work out a B-model interpretation of this identification expl…
