Applying the Hamilton-Jacobi method beyond the semiclassical approximation prescribed in \cite{Majhi3} for the scalar particle, Hawking radiation as tunneling of Dirac particle through an event horizon is analysed. We show that, as before, all quantum corrections in the single particle action are proportional to the usual semiclassical contribution. We also compute the modifications to the Hawking temperature and Bekenstein-Hawking entropy for the Schwarzschild black hole. Finally, the coefficient of the logarithmic correction to entropy is shown to be related with the trace anomaly.
We discuss recent work which has found, using a tunneling approach, higher-order terms in the Hawking temperature. We highlight a few important issues in the derivation, such as a misleading definition of energy, and criticize some of the conclusions that have been reached. In particular, we conclude that contrary to many recent claims, the tunneling method yields no higher-order corrections to the Hawking Temperature.
Hawking radiation as tunneling by Hamilton-Jacobi method beyond semiclassical approximation is analysed. We compute all quantum corrections in the single particle action revealing that these are proportional to the usual semiclassical contribution. We show that a simple choice of the proportionality constants reproduces the one loop back reaction effect in the spacetime, found by conformal field theory methods, which modifies the Hawking temperature of the black hole. Using the law of black hole mechanics we give the corrections to the Bekenstein-Hawking area law following from the modified Ha…
We present a method to semiclassically compute the pair creation rate of bosons and fermions in de Sitter spacetime. The results in the bosonic case agree with the ones in the literature. We find that for the constant electric field the fermionic and bosonic pair creation rate are the same. This analogy of bosons and fermions in the semiclassical limit is known from several flat spacetime examples.
In quantum cosmology the closed universe can spontaneously nucleate out of the state with no classical space and time. The semiclassical tunneling nucleation probability can be estimated as $\emph{P}\sim\exp(-α^2/Λ)$ where $α$=const and $Λ$ is the cosmological constant. In classical cosmology with varying speed of light c(t) (VSL) it is possible to solve the horizon problem, the flatness problem and the $Λ$-problem if c=sa^n with s=const and n<-2. We show that in VSL quantum cosmology with n<-2 the semiclassical tunneling nucleation probability is $\emph{P}\sim\exp(-β^2Λ^k)$ with beta=const an…
It was found recently that processes of multidimensional tunneling are generally described at high energies by unstable semiclassical trajectories. We study two observational signatures related to the instability of trajectories. First, we find an additional power-law dependence of the tunneling probability on the semiclassical parameter as compared to the standard case of potential tunneling. The second signature is substantial widening of the probability distribution over final-state quantum numbers. These effects are studied using modified semiclassical technique which incorporates stabiliz…
Applying the Hamilton--Jacobi method we investigate the tunneling of photon across the event horizon of a static spherically symmetric black hole. The necessity of the gauge condition on the photon field, to derive the semiclassical Hawking temperature, is explicitly shown. Also, the tunneling of photon and gravitino beyond this semiclassical approximation are presented separately. Quantum corrections of the action for both cases are found to be proportional to the semiclassical contribution. Modifications to the Hawking temperature and Bekenstein-Hawking area law are thereby obtained. Using t…
Some tunneling phenomena are described, in the semiclassical approximation, by unstable complex trajectories. We develop a systematic procedure to stabilize the trajectories and to calculate the tunneling probability, including both the suppression exponent and prefactor. We find that the instability of tunneling solutions modifies the power-law dependence of the prefactor on h as compared to the case of stable solutions.
We describe time-dependent tunneling of massless particles in 1+1 dimensional string field theory. Polchinski's description of the classical solutions in terms of the Fermi sea is used to identify the leading instanton contribution connecting the two half-lines. The field theory lagrangian is proportional to $1/g^2$, where $g$ is the string coupling constant, but the $S$-matrix for tunneling from one half-line to the other behaves as $\exp(-C/g)$. We note the constant~$C$ involves curious boundary contributions and observe that a prescription connecting the two half-lines unifies treatments of…
We show, using the tunneling method, that Lovelock black holes Hawking radiate with a perfect blackbody spectrum. This is a new result. Within the semiclassical (WKB) approximation the temperature of the spectrum is given by the semiclassical Hawking temperature. Beyond the semiclassical approximation the thermal nature of the spectrum does not change but the temperature undergoes some higher order corrections. This is true for both black hole (event) and cosmological horizons. Using the first law of thermodynamics the black hole entropy is calculated. Specifically the $D$-dimensional static, …
We describe a computational investigation of tunneling at finite energy in a weakly coupled quantum mechanical system with two degrees of freedom. We compare a full quantum mechanical analysis to the results obtained by making use of a semiclassical technique developed in the context of instanton-like transitions in quantum field theory. This latter technique is based on an analytic continuation of the degrees of freedom into a complex phase space, and the simultaneous analytic continuation of the equations of motion into the complex time plane.
The tunneling approach beyond semiclassical approximation has been used to calculate the corrected Hawking temperature and entropy for various black holes and FRW universe model. We examine their derivations, and prove that the quantity $H$ in the corrected temperature is the explicit function of the only free parameter $\mathcal{A}$ (which is an auxiliary parameter defined by $\mathcal{A}=\hbar S_{BH}$). Our analysis improves previous calculations, and indicates that the leading order logarithmic correction to entropy is a natural result of the corrected temperature and the first law of therm…
We studied the correction of the quantum tunneling radiation of fermions with spin $1/2$ in Kerr Anti-de-Sitter black hole. First, the dynamic equation of spin $1/2$ fermions was corrected using Lorentz's violation theory. Second, the new expressions of the fermions quantum tunneling rate, the Hawking temperature of the black hole and the entropy of the black hole were obtained according to the corrected fermions dynamic equation. At last, some comments are made on the results of our work.
The quantum tunneling radiation of fermions with arbitrary spin at the event horizon of Kerr-de Sitter black hole is accurately modified by using the dispersion relation proposed in the study of string theory and quantum gravitational theory. The derived tunneling rate and temperature at the black hole horizons are analyzed and studied.
In this paper, we investigate the fermions Hawking radiation and quasinormal modes in infra-red modified Ho$\check{r}$ava-Lifshitz gravity under tunneling and perturbation perspectives.Firstly, through the fermions tunneling in IR modified Ho$\check{r}$ava-Lifshitz gravity,we obtain the Hawking radiation emission rate, tunneling temperature and entropy for the Kehagias-Sfetsos black hole. It is found that the results of fermions tunneling are in consistence with the thermodynamics results obtained by calculating surface gravity.Secondly, we numerically calculate the lowing quasinormal modes fr…
In this paper, by applying the deformed dispersion relation in quantum gravity theory, we study the correction of fermions' tunneling radiation from non-stationary symmetric black holes. Firstly, the motion equation of fermions is modified in the gravitational spacetime. Based on the motion equation, the modified Hamilton-Jacobi equation has been obtained by a semiclassical approximation method. Then, the tunneling behavior of fermions at the event horizon of non-stationary symmetric Kerr black hole is investigated. Finally, the results show that in the non-stationary symmetric background, the…
The standard Hawking formula predicts the complete evaporation of black holes. In this paper, we introduce effects of quantum gravity into fermions' tunneling from Reissner-Nordstrom and Kerr black holes. The quantum gravity effects slow down the increase of Hawking temperatures. This property naturally leads to a residue mass in black hole evaporation. The corrected temperatures are affected by the quantum numbers of emitted fermions. Meanwhile, the temperature of the Kerr black hole is a function of $θ$ due to the rotation.
Hawking radiation is studied for arbitrary scalars, fermions, and spin-1 bosons, using a tunneling approach, to every order in $\hbar$ but ignoring back-reaction effects. It is shown that the additional quantum terms yield no new contribution to the Hawking temperature. Indeed, it is found that the limit of small $\hbar$ in the standard quantum WKB approximation is replaced by the near-horizon limit in the gravitational WKB approach.
The thermal spectrum seen by accelerated observers in Minkowski space - known as the Unruh effect - is derived within the tunneling mechanism. This is a new result in this mechanism and it completes the treatment of Unruh effect via tunneling. Both Bose-Einstein and Fermi-Dirac spectrum is derived by considering tunneling of scalar and spin half particles respectively, across the accelerated Rindler horizon. Full solutions of Klein-Gordon and Dirac equations in the Rindler metric are employed to achieve this, instead of approximate solutions.
The explicit form of conformal generators is found which provides the extension of Poincare symmetry for massless particles of arbitrary helicity. The helicity 1/2 particles are considered as the particular example. The realization of conformal symmetry in the semiclassical regime of Weyl equation is obtained.
We give a correction to the tunneling probability by taking into account the back reaction effect to the metric of the black hole spacetime. We then show how this gives rise to the modifications in the semiclassical black hole entropy and Hawking temperature. Finally, we reproduce the familiar logarithmic correction to the Bekenstein-Hawking area law.
The instability against emission of fermionic particles by the trapping horizon of an evolving black hole is analyzed using the Hamilton-Jacobi tunneling method. This method automatically selects one special expression for the surface gravity of a changing horizon. The results also apply to point masses embedded in an expanding universe. As a bonus of the tunneling method, we gain the insight that the surface gravity still defines a temperature parameter as long as the evolution is sufficiently slow that the black hole pass through a sequence of quasi-equilibrium states, and that black holes s…
We use path-integrals to derive a general expression for the semiclassical approximation to the partition function of a one-dimensional quantum-mechanical system. Our expression depends solely on ordinary integrals which involve the potential. For high temperatures, the semiclassical expression is dominated by single closed paths. As we lower the temperature, new closed paths appear, including tunneling paths. The transition from single to multiple-path regime corresponds to well-defined catastrophes. Tunneling sets in whenever they occur. (Our formula fully accounts for this feature.)
By introducing a specific etheric-like vector in the Dirac equation with Lorentz Invariance Violation (LIV) in the curved spacetime, an improved method for quantum tunneling radiation of fermions is proposed. As an example, we apply this new method to a charged axisymmetric Kerr-Newman black hole. Firstly, considering LIV theory, we derive a modified dynamical equation of fermion with spin 1/2 in the Kerr-Newman black hole spacetime. Then we solve the equation and find the increase or decrease of black hole's Hawking temperature and entropy are related to constants $a$ and $c$ of the Dirac equ…
We derive the general form of Hawking temperature for Vaidya black hole in the tunneling pictures. This kind of black hole is regarded as the description of a more realistic one since it's time dependent decreasing mass due to the evaporation process. Clearly, the temperature would be time dependent as our findings. We use the semiclassical methods, namely radial null geodesic and complex paths methods. Both methods are found to give the same results. Then, we discuss the possible form of corresponding entropy.
We consider coordinate systems adapted to accelerated observers, construct a generalised Rindler metric and then adopt a specific form of it to compute the semiclassical Unruh temperature, using a WKB approximation within a Hamilton Jacobi analysis in the tunneling picture. Corrections to this temperature are next computed by going beyond the usual WKB approximation. A connection of the corrected Unruh temperature with the Hawking temperature is established. This connection is also explained through the method of Global Embedding Minkowski Spacetime (GEMS).
We investigate further the recent analysis \cite{R.Banerjee2}, based on a Hamilton-Jacobi type approach, to compute the temperature and entropy of black holes beyond the semiclassical approximation. It is shown how non spherically symmetric geometries are inducted in the general formalism by explicitly considering the BTZ black hole. The leading (logarithmic) and non leading corrections to the area law are obtained.
A new classical solution for the Yang-Mills theory in which the Euclidean energy plays a role of a parameter is discussed. The instanton and sphaleron are shown to be particular examples of this more general solution. The energy parameter for them takes on special values, which are zero and sphaleron mass for the instanton and sphaleron, respectively. The solution is employed to describe the tunneling process, which is accompanied by a variation of the topological charge. A range of temperatures, where the new solution makes this tunneling more effective than the known mechanisms based on the …
The rate of the non-perturbative decay of a 't Hooft - Polyakov monopole in an external electric field into a dyon and a charged fermion is calculated. The subleading semiclassical prefactor is presented for the first time for this process. The leading exponential factor is shown to be in full agreement with the previous results derived in a different technique. Analogous treatment is shown to hold for the two-fermionic decay of the lightest bound state in Thirring model, allowing one to restore the "effective meson - fermion vertex".
Using the recently introduced ACV reduced-action approach to transplanckian scattering of light particles, we show that the $S$-matrix in the region of classical gravitational collapse is related to a tunneling amplitude in an effective field space. We understand in this way the role of both real and complex field solutions, the choice of the physical ones, the absorption of the elastic channel associated to inelastic multigraviton production and the occurrence of extra absorption below the critical impact parameter. We are also able to compute a class of quantum corrections to the original se…
Semiclassical chiral fermions manifest the anomalous spin-Hall effect: when put into a pure electric field they suffer a side jump, analogous to what happens to their massive counterparts in non-commutative mechanics. The transverse shift is consistent with the conservation of the angular momentum. In a pure magnetic field instead, spiraling motion is found. Motion in Hall-type perpendicular electric and magnetic fields is also studied.
We develop the semiclassical method of complex trajectories in application to chaotic dynamical tunneling. First, we suggest a systematic numerical technique for obtaining complex tunneling trajectories by the gradual deformation of the classical ones. This provides a natural classification of the tunneling solutions. Second, we present a heuristic procedure for sorting out the least suppressed trajectory. As an illustration, we apply our technique to the process of chaotic tunneling in a quantum mechanical model with two degrees of freedom. Our analysis reveals rich dynamics of the system. At…
We study Hawking radiation of charged fermions from accelerating and rotation black holes with electric and magnetic charges. We calculate the tunneling probabilities of incoming and outgoing fermionic particles and find the Hawking temperature of these black holes. We also provide an explicit expression of the classical action for the massive and massless particles in the background of these black holes.
We consider a minisuperspace model for a closed universe with small and positive cosmological constant, filled with a massive scalar field conformally coupled to gravity. In the quantum version of this model, the universe may undergo a tunneling transition through an effective barrier between regions of small and large scale factor. We solve numerically the minisuperspace Wheeler--De Witt equation with tunneling boundary conditions for the wave function of the universe, and find that tunneling in quantum cosmology is quite different from that in quantum mechanics. Namely, the matter degree of …
We consider tunneling transitions between states separated by an energy barrier in a simple field theoretical model. We analyse the case of soliton creation induced by collisions of a few highly energetic particles. We present semiclassical, but otherwise first principle, study of this process at all energies of colliding particles. We find that direct tunneling to the final state occurs at energies below the critical value E_c, which is slightly higher than the barrier height. Tunneling probability grows with energy in this regime. Above the critical energy, the tunneling mechanism is differe…
According to a corrected dispersion relation proposed in the study on string theory and quantum gravity theory, Rarita-Schwinger equation has been precisely modified, which results in a Rarita-Schwinger-Hamilton-Jacobi equation, and through which, the characteristics of arbitrary spin fermions quantum tunneling radiation from non-stationary Kerr-de Sitter black hole are researched. A series of accurately corrected physical quantities such as surface gravity, chemical potential, tunneling probability and Hawking temperature that describe the properties of the black hole are derived. This resear…
In the spacetime of non-stationary spherical symmetry Vaidya-Bonner black hole, an accurate modification of Hawking tunneling radiation for fermions with arbitrarily spin is researched. Considering a light dispersion relationship derived from string theory, quantum gravitational theory and Rarita-Schwinger Equation in the non-stationary spherical symmetry spacetime, we derive an accurately modified dynamic equation for fermions with arbitrarily spin. By solving the equation, modified tunneling rate of fermions with arbitrarily spin, Hawking temperature and entropy at the event horizon of Vaidy…
Recently the modified Dirac equation with Lorentz invariance violation has been proposed, which would be helpful to resolve some issues in quantum gravity theory and high energy physics. In this paper, the modified Dirac equation has been generalized in curved spacetime, and then fermion tunneling of black strings is researched under this correctional Dirac field theory. We also use semi-classical approximation method to get correctional Hamilton-Jacobi equation, so that the correctional Hawking temperature and correctional black hole's entropy are derived.
We study the tunneling of Dirac fermions in graphene through a double barrier potential allowing the carriers to have an effective mass inside the barrier as generated by a lattice miss-match with the boron nitride substrate. The consequences of this gap opening on the transmission are investigated. The realization of resonant tunneling conditions is also analyzed.
We study a model of resonant point-contact tunneling of a single Luttinger-liquid lead, using the boundary state formulation. The model is described by a single chiral Fermion in one dimensional space with one point contact interaction at the origin. It is the simplest model of this type. By folding the infinite line we map the model onto a non-chiral model on the half infinite line and transcribe the point-contact tunneling interaction into a boundary interaction. The tunneling interaction yields a non-local effective action at the boundary. We explicitly construct the boundary state and eval…
We use the Wick-rotated time-dependent supersymmetry to construct models of two-dimensional Dirac fermions in presence of an electrostatic grating. We show that there appears omnidirectional perfect transmission through the grating at specific energy. Additionally to being transparent for incoming fermions, the grating hosts strongly localized states.
The tunneling effect of two-dimensional Dirac fermions in a constant magnetic field is studied. This can be done by using the continuity equation at some points to determine the corresponding reflexion and transmission coefficients. For this, we consider a system made of graphene as superposition of two different regions where the second is characterized by an energy gap t'. In fact, we treat concrete systems to practically give two illustrations: barrier and diode. For each case, we discuss the transmission in terms of the ratio of the energy conservation and t'. Moreover, we analyze the reso…
