Since the pioneering work of Bagger-Lambert and Gustavsson, there has been a proliferation of three-dimensional superconformal Chern-Simons theories whose main ingredient is a metric 3-algebra. On the other hand, many of these theories have been shown to allow for a reformulation in terms of standard gauge theory coupled to matter, where the 3-algebra does not appear explicitly. In this paper we reconcile these two sets of results by pointing out the Lie-algebraic origin of some metric 3-algebras, including those which have already appeared in three-dimensional superconformal Chern-Simons theories. More precisely, we show that the real 3-algebras of Cherkis-Saemann, which include the metric Lie 3-algebras as a special case, and the hermitian 3-algebras of Bagger-Lambert can be constructed from pairs consisting of a metric real Lie algebra and a faithful (real or complex, respectively) unitary representation. This construction generalises and we will see how to construct many kinds of metric 3-algebras from pairs consisting of a real metric Lie algebra and a faithful (real, complex or quaternionic) unitary representation. In the real case, these 3-algebras are precisely the Cherkis-Saemann algebras, which are then completely characterised in terms of this data. In the complex and quaternionic cases, they constitute generalisations of the Bagger-Lambert hermitian 3-algebras and anti-Lie triple systems, respectively, which underlie N=6 and N=5 superconformal Chern-Simons theories, respectively. In the process we rederive the relation between certain types of complex 3-algebras and metric Lie superalgebras.
We describe various nonrelativistic contractions of two classes of twisted Poincare algebra: canonical one ($θ_{μν}$-deformation) and the one leading to Lie-algebraic models of noncommutative space-times. The cases of contraction-independent and contraction-dependent twist parameters are considered. We obtain five models of noncommutative nonrelativistic space-times, in particular, two new Lie-algebraic nonrelativistic deformations of space-time, respectively, with quantum time/classical space and with quantum space/classical time.
New Galilei quantum groups dual to the Hopf algebras proposed in [1] are obtained by the nonrelativistic contraction procedures. The corresponding Lie-algebraic and quadratic quantum space-times are identified with the translation sectors of considered algebras.
We consider two new classes of twisted D=4 quantum Poincaré symmetries described as the dual pairs of noncocommutative Hopf algebras. Firstly we investigate a two-parameter class of twisted Poincaré algebras which provide the examples of Lie-algebraic noncommutativity of the translations. The corresponding associative star-products and new deformed Lie-algebraic Minkowski spaces are introduced. We discuss further the twist deformations of Poincaré symmetries generated by the twist with its carrier in Lorentz algebra. We describe corresponding deformed Poincaré group which provides the quadrati…
It is pointed out that affine Lie algebras appear to be the natural mathematical structure underlying the notion of integrability for two-dimensional systems. Their role in the construction and classification of 2D integrable systems is discussed. The super- symmetric case will be particularly enphasized. The fundamental examples will be outlined.
We exploit the Seiberg -- Witten map technique to formulate the theory of gravity defined on a Lie algebraic noncommutative space time. Detailed expressions of the Seiberg -- Witten maps for the gauge parameters, gauge potentials and the field strengths have been worked out. Our results demonstrate that notwithstanding the introduction of more general noncommutative structure there is no first order correction, exactly as happens for a canonical (i.e. constant) noncommutativity.
A systematic search for Lie algebra solutions of the type IIB matrix model is performed. Our survey is based on the classification of all Lie algebras for dimensions up to five and of all nilpotent Lie algebras of dimension six. It is shown that Lie-type solutions of the equations of motion of the type IIB matrix model exist and they correspond to certain nilpotent and solvable Lie algebras. Their representation in terms of Hermitian matrices is discussed in detail. These algebras give rise to certain non-commutative spaces for which the corresponding star-products are provided. Finally the is…
Generalizing some of our earlier work, we prove natural presentations of the principal subspaces of the level one standard modules for the untwisted affine Lie algebras of types A, D and E, and also of certain related spaces. As a consequence, we obtain a canonical complete set of recursions (q-difference equations) for the (multi-)graded dimensions of these spaces, and we derive their graded dimensions. Our methods are based on intertwining operators in vertex operator algebra theory.
We investigate the unitarity of three dimensional noncommutative scalar field theory in the Lie algebraic noncommutative spacetime [x^i,x^j]=2i kappa epsilon^{ijk}x_k. This noncommutative field theory possesses a SL(2,R)/Z_2 group momentum space, which leads to a Hopf algebraic translational symmetry. We check the Cutkosky rule of the one-loop self-energy diagrams in the noncommutative phi^3 theory when we include a braiding, which is necessary for the noncommutative field theory to possess the Hopf algebraic translational symmetry at quantum level. Then, we find that the Cutkosky rule is sati…
Algebraic structures of N = (4; 4) and N = (8; 8) supersymmetric (SUSY) two dimensional sigma models on Lie groups (in general) and SUSY Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) models (as special) are obtained. For SUSY WZW models, these algebraic structures are reduced to Lie bialgebraic structures as for the N = (2; 2) SUSY WZW case; with the difference that there is a one 2-cocycle for the N = (4; 4) case and there are two 2-cocycles for the N = (8; 8) case. In general, we show that N = (8; 8) SUSY structure on Lie algebra must be constructed from two N = (4; 4) SUSY structures and in special there must b…
We construct a class of one-dimensional Lie-algebraic problems based on sl(2) where the spectrum in the algebraic sector has a dynamical symmetry E -> - E. All 2j+1 eigenfunctions in the algebraic sector are paired, and inside each pair are related to each other by simple analytic continuation x -> ix, except the zero mode appearing if j is integer. At j-> infinity the energy of the highest level in the algebraic sector can be calculated by virtue of the quasiclassical expansion, while the energy of the ground state can be calculated as a weak coupling expansion. The both series coincide ident…
With this paper we start a programme aiming at connecting two vast scientific areas: Jordan algebras and representation theory. Within representation theory, we focus on non-compact, real forms of semisimple Lie algebras and groups as well as on the modern theory of their induced representations, in which a central role is played by the parabolic subalgebras and subgroups. The aim of the present paper and its sequels is to present a Jordan algebraic interpretations of maximal parabolic subalgebras. In this first paper, we confine ourselves to maximal parabolic subalgebras of the non-compact re…
Two Lie algebraic forms of the 2-body Elliptic Calogero model are presented. Translation-invariant and dilatation-invariant discretizations of the model are obtained.
The Newton equation describing the particle motion in constant external field force on canonical, Lie-algebraic and quadratic space-time is investigated. We show that for canonical deformation of space-time the dynamical effects are absent, while in the case of Lie-algebraic noncommutativity, when spatial coordinates commute to the time variable, the additional acceleration of particle is generated. We also indicate, that in the case of spatial coordinates commuting in Lie-algebraic way, as well as for quadratic deformation, there appear additional velocity and position-dependent forces.
In this paper we study a family of algebraic deformations of regular coadjoint orbits of compact semisimple Lie groups with the Kirillov Poisson bracket. The deformations are restrictions of deformations on the dual of the Lie algebra. We prove that there are non isomorphic deformations in the family. The star products are not differential, unlike the star products considered in other approaches. We make a comparison with the differential star product canonically defined by Kontsevich's map.
We extend our earlier work of revealing both space-space and space-time noncommuting structures in various models in particle mechanics exhibiting reparametrisation symmetry. We show explicitly (in contrast to the earlier results in our paper \cite{sg}) that for some special choices of the reparametrisation parameter $ε$, one can obtain space-space noncommuting structures which are Lie-algebraic in form even in the case of the relativistic free particle. The connection of these structures with the existing models in the literature is also briefly discussed. Further, there exists some values of…
We find condition on the parameters of noncommutativity on which a list of important results can be obtained in a space with Lie-algebraic noncommutativity. Namely, we show that the weak equivalence principle is recovered in the space, the Poisson brackets for coordinates and momenta of the center-of-mass of a composite system do not depend on its composition and reproduce relations of noncommutative algebra for coordinates and momenta of individual particles if parameters of noncommutativity corresponding to a particle are proportional inversely to its mass. In addition in particular case of …
We present Lie-algebraic deformations of Minkowski space with undeformed Poincaré algebra. These deformations interpolate between Snyder and $κ$-Minkowski space. We find realizations of noncommutative coordinates in terms of commutative coordinates and derivatives. Invariants and tensors with respect to Lorentz algebra are discussed. A general mapping from $κ$-deformed Snyder to Snyder space is constructed. Deformed Leibniz rule, the coproduct structure and star product are found. Special cases, particularly Snyder and $κ$-Minkowski in Maggiore-type realizations are discussed.
We propose canonical and Lie-algebraic twist deformations of $κ$-deformed Poincare Hopf algebra which leads to the generalized $κ$-Minkowski space-time relations. The corresponding deformed $κ$-Poincare quantum groups are also calculated. Finally, we perform the nonrelativistic contraction limit to the corresponding twisted Galilean algebras and dual Galilean quantum groups.
We characterise Lie groups with bi-invariant bargmannian, galilean or carrollian structures. Localising at the identity, we show that Lie algebras with ad-invariant bargmannian, carrollian or galilean structures are actually determined by the same data: a metric Lie algebra with a skew-symmetric derivation. This is the same data defining a one-dimensional double extension of the metric Lie algebra and, indeed, bargmannian Lie algebras coincide with such double extensions, containing carrollian Lie algebras as an ideal and projecting to galilean Lie algebras. This sets up a canonical correspond…
In this paper we study integrability and algebraic integrability properties of certain matrix Schrödinger operators. More specifically, we associate such an operator (with rational, trigonometric, or elliptic coefficients) to every simple Lie algebra g and every representation U of this algebra with a nonzero but finite dimensional zero weight subspace. The Calogero-Sutherland operator is a special case of this construction. Such an operator is always integrable. Our main result is that it is also algebraically integrable in the rational and trigonometric case if the representation U is highes…
We show that complex Lie algebras (in particular sl(2,C)) provide us with an elegant method for studying the transition from real to complex eigenvalues of a class of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians: complexified Scarf II, generalized Pöschl-Teller, and Morse. The characterizations of these Hamiltonians under the so-called pseudo-Hermiticity are also discussed.
We present an affine $sl (n+1)$ algebraic construction of the basic constrained KP hierarchy. This hierarchy is analyzed using two approaches, namely linear matrix eigenvalue problem on hermitian symmetric space and constrained KP Lax formulation and we show that these approaches are equivalent. The model is recognized to be the generalized non-linear Schrödinger ($\GNLS$) hierarchy and it is used as a building block for a new class of constrained KP hierarchies. These constrained KP hierarchies are connected via similarity-Bäcklund transformations and interpolate between $\GNLS$ and multi-bos…
A certain representation for the Heisenberg algebra in finite-difference operators is established. The Lie-algebraic procedure of discretization of differential equations with isospectral property is proposed. Using $sl_2$-algebra based approach, (quasi)-exactly-solvable finite-difference equations are described. It is shown that the operators having the Hahn, Charlier and Meixner polynomials as the eigenfunctions are reproduced in present approach as some particular cases. A discrete version of the classical orthogonal polynomials (like Hermite, Laguerre, Legendre and Jacobi ones) is introduc…
The Kondo problem is studied using the unitary Lie algebra of spin-singlet fermion bilinears. In the limit when the number of values of the spin $N$ goes to infinity the theory approaches a classical limit, which still requires a renormalization. We determine the ground state of this renormalized theory. Then we construct a quantum theory around this classical limit, which amounts to recovering the case of finite $N$.
A general formula is calculated for the connection of a central metric w.r.t.\ a noncommutative spacetime of Lie-algebraic type. This is done by using the framework of linear connections on central bi-modules. The general formula is further on used to calculate the corresponding Riemann tensor and prove the corresponding Bianchi identities and certain symmetries that are essential to obtain a symmetric and divergenceless Einstein Tensor. In particular, the obtained Einstein Tensor is not equivalent to the sum of the noncommutative Riemann tensor and scalar, as in the commutative case, but in a…
We analyse a class of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians, which can be expressed bilinearly in terms of generators of a sl(2,R)-Lie algebra or their isomorphic su(1,1)-counterparts. The Hamlitonians are prototypes for solvable models of Lie algebraic type. Demanding a real spectrum and the existence of a well defined metric, we systematically investigate the constraints these requirements impose on the coupling constants of the model and the parameters in the metric operator. We compute isospectral Hermitian counterparts for some of the original non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. Alternatively we employ a gen…
A classification of ordinary differential equations and finite-difference equations in one variable having polynomial solutions (the generalized Bochner problem) is given. The method used is based on the spectral problem for a polynomial element of the universal enveloping algebra of $sl_2({\bf R})$ (for differential equations) or $sl_2({\bf R})_q$ (for finite-difference equations) in the "projectivized" representation possessing an invariant subspace. Connection to the recently-discovered quasi-exactly-solvable problems is discussed.
