Recent experimental data for the differential decay distribution of the decay $τ^-\toν_τK_Sπ^-$ by the Belle collaboration are described by a theoretical model which is composed of the contributing vector and scalar form factors $F_+^{Kπ}(s)$ and $F_0^{Kπ}(s)$. Both form factors are constructed such that they fulfil constraints posed by analyticity and unitarity. A good description of the experimental measurement is achieved by incorporating two vector resonances and working with a three-times subtracted dispersion relation in order to suppress higher-energy contributions. The resonance parameters of the charged $K^*(892)$ meson, defined as the pole of $F_+^{Kπ}(s)$ in the complex $s$-plane, can be extracted, with the result $M_{K^*}=892.0 \pm 0.9 $MeV and $Γ_{K^*}=46.2 \pm 0.4 $MeV. Finally, employing the three-subtracted dispersion relation allows to determine the slope and curvature parameters $λ_+^{'}=(24.7\pm 0.8)\cdot 10^{-3}$ and $λ_+^{''}=(12.0\pm 0.2)\cdot 10^{-4}$ of the vector form factor $F_+^{Kπ}(s)$ directly from the data.
The dispersive approach to QCD and its applications to inclusive tau lepton hadronic decay and hadronic vacuum polarization function are briefly discussed.
Recently, the tau --> K pi nu_tau decay spectrum has been measured by the Belle and BaBar collaborations. In this work, we present an analysis of such decays introducing a dispersive parametrization for the vector and scalar Kpi form factors. This allows for precise tests of the Standard Model. For instance, the determination of f_+(0)|V_{us}| from these decays is discussed. A comparison and a combination of these results with the analyses of the K_{l3} decays is also considered.
Recently, we introduced several dispersive representations for the vector $Kπ$ form factor and fitted them to the Belle spectrum of $τ\to K πν_τ$. Here, we briefly present the model and discuss the results for the slope and curvature of $F_+(s)$ arising from the best fit. Furthermore, we compare the pole position of the charged $K^*(892)$ computed from our model with other results in the literature. Finally, we discuss the prospects of a simultaneous fit to $τ\to K πν_τ$ and $K_{e3}$ spectra.
The dispersive approach to QCD, which properly embodies the intrinsically nonperturbative constraints originating in the kinematic restrictions on relevant physical processes and extends the applicability range of perturbation theory towards the infrared domain, is briefly overviewed. The study of OPAL (update 2012) and ALEPH (update 2014) experimental data on inclusive tau lepton hadronic decay in vector and axial-vector channels within dispersive approach is presented.
The dispersive approach to QCD, which extends the applicability range of perturbation theory towards the infrared domain, is developed. This approach properly accounts for the intrinsically nonperturbative constraints, which originate in the low-energy kinematic restrictions on pertinent strong interaction processes. The dispersive approach proves to be capable of describing OPAL (update 2012) and ALEPH (update 2014) experimental data on inclusive tau lepton hadronic decay in vector and axial-vector channels in a self-consistent way.
The dispersive approach to QCD is applied to the study of the inclusive tau lepton hadronic decay. This approach provides the unified integral representations for the hadronic vacuum polarization function, related R function, and Adler function. These representations account for the intrinsically nonperturbative constraints, which originate in the kinematic restrictions on the functions on hand, and retain the effects due to hadronization, which play a valuable role in the analysis of the strong interaction processes at low energies. The dispersive approach proves to be capable of describing r…
An accurate low-energy dispersive parametrization of the scalar Kpi form factor was constructed some time ago in terms of a single parameter guided by the Callan-Treiman low-energy theorem. A similar twice subtracted dispersive parametrization for the vector Kpi form factor will be investigated here. The robustness of the parametrization of these two form factors will be studied in great detail. In particular the cut-off dependence, the isospin breaking effects and the possible, though not highly probable, presence of zeros in the form factors will be discussed. Interesting constraints in the …
We discuss the issue of duality violations in hadronic tau decay. After introducing a physically motivated ansatz for duality violations, we estimate their possible size by fitting this ansatz to the tau experimental data provided by the ALEPH collaboration. Our conclusion is that these data do not exclude significant duality violations in tau decay. This may imply an additional systematic error in the value of alpha_s(m_tau), extracted from tau decay, as large as δalpha_s(m_tau) \sim 0.003-0.010 .
Within an effective field theory framework, we discuss the possibility to discriminate among different operators that contribute to lepton flavor violating (LFV) tau decays. Correlations among decay rates in different channels are shown to provide a basic handle to unravel the origin of LFV in these processes. More information about the underlying dynamics responsible for LFV can be gathered from differential distributions in three-body decays like tau -> mu pi pi or tau -> 3 mu: these are considered in some detail. We incorporate in our analysis recent developments in the determination of the…
We study the semileptonic decays of heavy mesons into light pseudoscalars by making use of dispersion relations. Constraints from heavy quark symmetry, chiral symmetry and perturbative QCD are implemented into a dispersive model for the form-factors. Large deviations from $B^*$-pole dominance are observed in $B\toπ\ellν$. We discuss the model prediction for this mode and its possible impact on the extraction of $|V_{ub}|$.
$K_{\ell4}$ are for several reasons an especially interesting decay channel of $K$ mesons: $K_{\ell4}$ decays allow an accurate measurement of a combination of $S$-wave $ππ$ scattering lengths, one form factor of the decay is connected to the chiral anomaly and the decay is the best source for the determination of some low energy constants of ChPT. We present a dispersive approach to $K_{\ell4}$ decays, which takes rescattering effects fully into account. Some fits to NA48/2 and E865 measurements and results of the matching to ChPT are shown.
The current status of lattice and dispersive bound calculations for exclusive semileptonic B decays is reviewed. Emphasis is placed on decays relevant for the measurement of the sides of the unitarity triangle determined by |V_{ub}| and |V_{cb}|.
In this contribution we analyse the heavy-to-light $B$ decays through the Dispersive Matrix method, which can be applied to any semileptonic decays of hadrons once lattice QCD computations of the hadronic Form Factors and of the relevant susceptibilities are available. We will explicitly discuss the application of the Dispersive Matrix approach to both $B \to π\ell ν_{\ell}$ and $B_s \to K \ell ν_{\ell}$ decays. As usual in our analysis strategy, only LQCD computations of the FFs at high values of the momentum transfer will be used to determine the shape of the FFs in the whole kinematical ran…
With the newly available data sets on hadronic tau decays from the B-factories BABAR and BELLE, and future data from BESIII, precise information on the decay distributions will soon become available. This calls for an improvement of the decay spectra also on the theoretical side. In this work, the distribution function for the decay tau -> nu_tau K pi will be presented with the relevant K pi vector and scalar form factors being calculated in the framework of the resonance chiral theory, also taking into account additional constraints from dispersion relations and short-distances. As a by-produ…
We study the long-distance contribution to $B_s\toμ^+μ^-$ decay, which is generated by the two-photon intermediate state via $B_s\toγ^*γ^*\toμ^+μ^-$ transition. It is found that the dispersive two-photon amplitude can interfere with the dominant short-distance amplitude, which gives rise to new theoretical uncertainty in the branching ratio of $B_s\toμ^+μ^-$. Our analysis shows that, by taking into account present experimental constraints, this uncertainty could be up to the same order of magnitude as some theoretical uncertainties of ${\cal B}(B_s\toμ^+μ^-)$ given in the past literature. Futu…
I present a recent piece of work on semileptonic $B \to π$ decays in which lattice results and kinematical and dispersive constraints are combined to obtain model-independent bounds on the relevant form factors and rates.
It is known that the discrepancy in pion spectral functions extracted from positron-electron annihilation and tau decay leads to different predictions for the muon anomalous magnetic moment. We will show that this discrepancy effects also the extraction of the Cabibbo angle from the hadronic tau decays. The corrections to the tau branching fractions, corresponding to the presence of new centi-weak tensor interactions, allow us to extract the Cabibbo angle from tau decays in agreement with its other precision determinations. Thus a more precise value of |V_us|=0.2246 +/- 0.0012 is obtained and …
We consider the three--body decay stop_1 -> b tau+ tau-sneutrino and propose the asymmetry of the tau polarization perpendicular to the decay plane as a CP sensitive observable. We calculate this asymmetry in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model taking the parameters mu and A_t complex. In the parameter domain where the decay stop_1 -> b tau+ tau-sneutrino is important this asymmetry can go up to 30%. We also estimate the event rates necessary to observe this asymmetry at 90% CL.
This article summarizes recent developments in $B\to D^{(\ast)}τν$ decays. We explain how to extract the tau lepton's production properties from the kinematics of its decay products. The focus is on hadronic tau decays, which are most sensitive to the tau polarizations. We present new results for effects of new physics in tau polarization observables and quantify the observation prospects at BELLE II.
Based on experimental data by the Bell Collaboration, we present a phenomenological analysis of the angular distributions in tau- -->K_S pi-nu_tau decay. Our study shows that the angular analysis could lead to some interesting observables, and the future experimental investigation of these observables might be very helpful in revealing the nature of the scalar components of the decay. New physics contributions from the two-Higgs-doublet model to this decay have also been examined.
The weak interaction between the first and second generation of quarks, the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix (CKM) element |Vus|, can be probed using hadronic tau decays. In this paper, we present the recent measurements of hadronic tau decays from BELLE and BABAR and the improvements in the determination of |Vus| from tau decays.
The inclusive tau lepton hadronic decay is studied within Dispersive approach to QCD. The significance of effects due to hadronization is convincingly demonstrated. The approach on hand proves to be capable of describing experimental data on tau lepton hadronic decay in vector and axial-vector channels. The vicinity of values of QCD scale parameter obtained in both channels bears witness to the self-consistency of developed approach.
We investigate potential for measuring CP state of the Higgs boson in the H to tau tau$ decay with consecutive tau-lepton decays in channels: tau^+- to rho^+- nu_tau and tau^+- to a1^+- nu_tau combined. Subsequent decays rho^+- to pi^+- pi^0, a1^+- to rho^0 pi^+- and rho^0 to pi^+ pi^- are taken into account. We will explore extensions of the method, where acoplanarity angle for the planes build on the visible decay products, pi^+- pi^0 of tau^+- to pi^pm pi^0 nu_tau, was used. The angle is sensitive to transverse spin correlations, thus to parity. We show, that in the case of the cascade deca…
We perform a detailed study of the decays of the heavier tau slepton (stau_2) and tau-sneutrino (snu_tau) in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). We show that the decays into Higgs or gauge bosons, i.e. stau_2 -> stau_1 + (h^0, H^0, A^0 or Z^0), stau_2 -> snu_tau + (H^- or W^-), and snu_tau -> stau_1 + (H^+ or W^+), can be very important due to the sizable tau Yukawa coupling and large mixing parameters of stau. Compared to the decays into fermions, such as stau_2 -> tau + neutralino_i and stau_2 -> nu_tau + chargino_j^-, these bosonic decay modes can have significantly different …
We report on the recent results of searches for lepton-flavor-violating tau decays as well as lepton-number-violating B decays with the world-highest data samples accumulated at the Belle.
We constrain, from rare tau decays, several combinations of $λ$ and $λ'$ type couplings coming from Supersymmetry without R-parity. The processes that we consider are tau --> l M, tau --> l_i l_j l_k, and tau --> l gamma, where l stands for either e or mu, and M is the generic symbol for a meson. We update several existing bounds, and provide a few new ones too.
The study of the $τ$-lepton decays into hadrons has contributed to a better understanding of non-perturbative QCD and light-quark meson spectroscopy, as well as to the search of new physics beyond the Standard Model. The two- and three-meson decay modes, considering only those permitted by the Standard Model, are the predominant decays and together with the one-pion mode compose more than $85\%$ of the hadronic $τ$-lepton decay width. In this note we review the theoretical results for these modes implemented in the Monte Carlo event generator TAUOLA and present at the same time a comparison wi…
Within the standard model, CP-violating asymmetries A(Λ^0_-) and A(Ξ^-_-) have been estimated in short-distance calculations to occur at the level of a few times 10^{-5}. We show here that in this model the dispersive contribution tends to give asymmetries of similar size.
We investigate the potential for measuring the relative couplings of a low-mass Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider using WH, ZH, and ttbarH production, where the Higgs boson decays to tau-lepton pairs. With 100/fb of sqrt(s) = 14 TeV pp collision data we find that these modes can improve sensitivity to coupling-ratio measurements of a Higgs boson with a mass of about 125 GeV/c^2.
I present two recent pieces of work on semileptonic $B \to π, ρ$ decays where it is shown how lattice QCD calculations can be used to test heavy-quark symmetry and determine phenomenologically relevant quantities despite the limits on these calculations' kinematical reach. The study of semileptonic $B \to ρ$ decays was performed with the UKQCD Collaboration.
Evidence of a new particle with mass ~125 GeV decaying into a pair of tau leptons at the Large Hadron Collider spurs interest in ascertaining its spin in this channel. Here we present a comparative study between spin-0 and spin-2 nature of this new particle, using spin correlations and decay product directions. The TauSpinner algorithm is used to re-weight distributions from qqbar -> gamma/Z -> tau+ tau- sample to simulate a spin-2 state exchange. The method is based on supplementing the Standard Model matrix elements with those arising from presence of a new interaction. Studies with simulate…
I present an update on the electroweak radiative correction factor to semileptonic tau decays, including a next-to-leading order resummation of large logarithms. My result differs both qualitatively and quantitatively from the one recently obtained by Davier et al. As two consequences, (i) the discrepancy between the predictions for the muon g-2 based on tau decay data and electron-positron annihilation data increases, and (ii) the g-2 prediction based on tau decay data appears to be consistent (within about one standard deviation) with the experimental result from BNL.
We have studied the one meson radiative tau decays: tau- -> nu(tau) pi-(K-) gamma, computing the structure dependent contributions within a Lagrangian approach based on the large-N(C) limit of QCD that ensures the proper low-energy limit dictated by chiral symmetry. Upon imposing the short-distance QCD constraints to the form-factors we are able to predict without any free parameter the structure dependent radiation and, therefore, the relevant observables for the decay tau- -> nu(tau) pi- gamma: the photon energy spectrum, the invariant mass spectrum of the meson-photon system and the integra…
The tau -> pi pi pi nu_tau decay is driven by the hadronization of the axial-vector current. Within the resonance chiral theory, and considering the large-Nc expansion, this process has been studied in Ref.[1]. In the light of later developments we revise here this previous work by including a new off-shell width for the lightest a_1 resonance that provides a good description of the tau -> pi pi pi nu_tau spectrum and branching ratio. We also consider the role of the rho(1450) resonance in these observables. Thus we bring in an overall description of the tau -> pi pi pi nu_tau process in excel…
We present a dispersive analysis of the three-pion decays of the lightest isoscalar vector mesons. The framework allows for a consistent implementation of final-state interactions among all three pions, with the results being solely dependent on the pion-pion P-wave scattering phase shift. We compare our results with the very precise KLOE measurement of phi --> 3pi. The omega/phi --> 3pi partial-wave amplitude serves as input to a dispersive analysis of the omega/phi --> pi0 gamma* transition form factor. We compare to data for omega --> pi0 mu+ mu- by the NA60 collaboration and motivate an ex…
We study the three-pion decays of the lightest isoscalar vector mesons, omega and phi, in a dispersive framework that allows for a consistent description of final-state interactions between all three pions. Our results are solely dependent on the phenomenological input for the pion-pion P-wave scattering phase shift. We predict the Dalitz plot distributions for both decays and compare our findings to recent measurements of the phi --> 3pi Dalitz plot by the KLOE and CMD-2 collaborations. Dalitz plot parameters for future precision measurements of omega --> 3pi are predicted. We also calculate …
Hadronic tau decays provide several ways to extract the Cabbibo-Kobashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix element V_{us}. The most precise determination involves using inclusive tau decays and requires as input the total branching ratio into strange final states. Recent results from B-factories have led to a discrepancy of about 3.4 sigma from the value of V_{us} implied by CKM unitarity and direct determination from Kaon semi-leptonic modes. In this paper we predict the three leading strange tau branching ratios, using dispersive parameterizations of the hadronic form factors and taking as experimental in…
Theoretical description of inclusive tau lepton hadronic decay is performed in the framework of Dispersive approach to QCD. The significance of effects due to hadronization is demonstrated. The approach on hand is capable of describing experimental data on tau lepton decay in vector and axial-vector channels. The vicinity of values of QCD scale parameter obtained in both channels testifies to the self-consistency of developed approach.
The radiative "B_c -> tau nu_tau gamma" decay is analyzed in the standard model. The branching ratio of this decay is calculated and the contributions of the Bremstrahlung and structure dependent parts are compared. It is shown that this decay can be detected at LHC.
In supersymmetry with large tan(beta) the decays B0(B0bar) -> l+l- are dominated by the scalar and pseudoscalar Higgs penguin diagrams leading to strong enhancement of leptonic decay rates with potentially large CP asymmetries in the tau+tau- decay modes measurable in BELLE or BaBar experiments. The TAUOLA tau-lepton decay library supplemented by its universal interface can efficiently be used to search for B0(B0bar) -> tau+tau- decays, and to investigate how the CP asymmetry is reflected in realistic experimental observables.
As of version 8.150 of Pythia, the isotropic decay model of tau-leptons has been replaced with sophisticated tau-lepton decay machinery. The decays and spin correlations for tau-leptons in Pythia 8 are described, including the spin correlation algorithm, the available tau-lepton production processes, the tau-lepton decay models, the user interface, and the implementation.
The decay width, forward-backward asymmetry and tau lepton longitudinal and transversal polarization for the exclusive (B -> K tau^+ tau^-) decay in a two Higgs doublet model are computed. It is shown that the forward-backward asymmetry and longitudinal polarization of the tau lepton are very effective tools for establishing new physics.
We examine CP violation in the Delta S=0 decays tau -> omega pi nu_tau and tau -> a_1 pi nu_tau and the Delta S=1 decay tau -> K pi pi nu_tau. We assume that the new physics is a charged Higgs. We show that sizeable CP-violating effects are possible in tau -> a_1 pi nu_tau (polarization-dependent rate asymmetry) and tau -> omega pi nu_ tau (triple-product asymmetry). The Delta S=1 decay tau -> K pi pi nu_tau can proceed via several resonances. We construct two modified rate asymmetries and a triple product asymmetry for this decay and discuss the potential sensitivities of these asymmetries.
The possibility of detecting the S-wave of the decays tau -> 3 pi + nu(tau) in the threshold region is explored, with emphasis on the sensitivity to the size of the quark antiquark condensate <qq>.
The new parameterization of form factors developed for 4pi channels of the tau lepton decay and based on Novosibirsk data on e^+e^- -> 4pi has been coded in a form suitable for the TAUOLA Monte Carlo package. Comparison with results from TAUOLA using another parameterization, i.e. the CLEO version of 1998 is also included.
TauDecay is a library of helicity amplitudes to simulate polarized tau decays, constructed in the FeynRules and MadGraph5 framework. Together with the leptonic mode, the decay library includes the main hadronic modes, τ\to ν_τ+π, 2π, and 3π, which are introduced as effective vertices by using FeynRules. The model file allows us to simulate tau decays when the on-shell tau production is kinematically forbidden. We also demonstrate that all possible correlations among the decay products of pair-produced taus through a Z boson and a scalar/pseudoscalar Higgs boson are produced automatically. The …
We have derived constraints on the tau neutrino mass and fourth generation mixing from an analysis of the partial widths of tau lepton decays, in particular: tau -> e nu nu_tau, tau -> mu nu nu_tau, tau -> pi nu_tau, tau -> K nu_tau. We present predictions for the tau decay widths, allowing for a non-zero tau neutrino mass, m(nu_tau), and for mixing with a neutrino of mass m(nu_L) > M_Z/2, which is parametrised using a Cabibbo-like mixing angle, theta_L. By comparison of these theoretical predictions with the experimental measurements, we obtain the following bounds at the 90% confidence level…
The predictions of an isospin model are compared with the branching ratios of the 5 and 6 pion decays of the tau lepton. In both cases, the isospin model suggests that the tau favours decays in which there is an omega resonance. Recent measurements of such tau decays confirm this hypothesis. If the decay of the tau to 7 pions also proceeds through an intermediate omega, then the isospin model predicts that the branching ratio of the tau to seven charged pions should be small when compared with other 7 pion decays. New limits on this mode appear to support this argument.
We re-examine CP violation in the Delta S = 0 decays tau -> N pi nu_tau (N=2,3,4). We assume that the new physics (NP) is a charged Higgs. We show that there is no NP contribution to tau -> pi pi nu_tau, which means that no CP violation is expected in this decay. On the other hand, NP can contribute to tau -> N pi nu_tau (N=3,4). These are dominated by the intermediate resonant decays tau -> omega pi nu_tau, tau -> rho pi nu_tau and tau -> a_1 pi nu_tau. We show that the only sizeable CP-violating effects which are possible are in tau -> a_1 pi nu_tau -> 4 pi nu_tau (polarization-dependent rat…
This Fifth International WEIN Symposium is devoted to physics beyond the standard model. This talk is about tau lepton physics, but I begin with the question: do we know how to find new physics in the world of elementary particles? This question is interwoven with the various tau physics topics. These topics are: searching for unexpected tau decay modes; searching for additional tau decay mechanisms; radiative tau decays; tau decay modes of the W, B, and D; decay of the Z^0 to tau pairs; searching for CP violation in tau decay; the tau neutrino, dreams and odd ideas in tau physics; and tau res…
The status of the Monte Carlo programs for the simulation of the $τ$ lepton production in high energy accelerator experiments and decay is reviewed. In particular, the status of the following packages is discussed: (i) TAUOLA for tau-lepton decay, (ii) PHOTOS for radiative corrections in decays, (iii) KORALB, KORALZ, KKMC packages for tau-pair production in e+e- collisions and (iv) universal interface of TAUOLA for the decay of tau-leptons produced by``any'' generator. Special emphasis on requirements from new and future experiments is given. Some considerations about the software organization…
The radiative B -> tau^+ tau^- gamma decay is investigated in the framework of the Standard Model. When only short (short and long together) distance contributions are taken into account, the Branching Ratio is found as 9.54x10^(-9) (1.52x10^(-8)), for the value of the cut delta = 0.01 imposed on the photon energy.
In recent years, $B_s$ decays into $tau^+tau^-$ has attracted a lot of attention since it is very sensitive to the structure of standard model (SM) and potential source of new physics beyond SM. In this paper, we study the effect of both Z and -mediated flavor-changing neutral currents on the $B_s$ decays into $tau^+tau^-$. We find the branching ratio of $B_s$ decays into $tau^+tau^-$ is enhanced relative to SM prediction, which would help to explain the recent observed CP-violation from like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry in the B system.
