Higgs singlet superfields are usually present in most extensions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) that address the mu-problem, such as the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) and the Minimal Nonminimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MNSSM). Employing a gauge- and flavour-covariant effective Lagrangian formalism, we show how the singlet Higgs bosons of such theories can have significant contributions to B-meson flavour-changing neutral current (FCNC) observables for large values of $\tanβ\stackrel{>}{{}_\sim} 50$ at the 1-loop level. Illustrative results are presented including effects on the B_s and B_d mass differences and on the rare decay $B_s\toμ^+μ^-$. In particular, we find that depending on the actual value of the lightest singlet pseudoscalar mass in the NMSSM, the branching ratio for $B_s\toμ^+μ^-$ can be enhanced or even suppressed with respect to the Standard Model prediction by more than one order of magnitude.
In the supersymmetric models with nontrivial flavour structure in the soft-breaking sector the exchange of neutral Higgses mediates $ΔF=2$ transitions. This mechanism is studied for $ΔS, ΔB=2$ processes and for a generic form of the soft-breaking terms. We find that Higgs-mediated FCNC amplitudes increase very rapidly with $\tanβ$ and can exceed $SUSY$ box contribution by up to two orders of magnitude when $\tanβ\sim m_t/m_b$.
Higgs singlet superfields, usually present in extensions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) which address the $μ$-problem, such as the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) and the Minimal Nonminimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (mnSSM), can have significant contributions to $B$-meson flavour-changing neutral current observables for large values of $\tanβ\gsim 50$. Illustrative results are presented including effects on the $B_s$ and on the rare decay $B_s\toμ^+μ^-$. In particular, we find that in the NMSSM, the branching ratio for $B_s\toμ^+μ^-$ can be enhanc…
Realistic predictions are made for lepton flavour violating and flavour changing neutral current decays in the large tan beta regime of a SUSY-seesaw model. Lepton flavour violating neutral Higgs decays are discussed within this framework along with the highly constraining charged lepton decays l_i --> l_j + gamma. In the b-s system the important constraint from b --> s + gamma is studied in conjunction with the rare FCNC Bs --> mu mu (tau mu) decays and the recently measured Delta Ms.
We present results of our study of tan(beta)-enhanced loop corrections in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with Minimal Flavour Violation (MFV). We demonstrate that these corrections induce flavour changing neutral current (FCNC) gluino couplings which have a large impact on the Wilson coefficient C_8 of the chromomagnetic operator. To illustrate the phenomenological consequences of this gluino-squark contribution to C_8, we briefly discuss its effect on the mixing-induced CP asymmetry in the decay B_d -> phi K_S.
We revise the limits on the FCNC higgses in manifestly left-right symmetric theories. It is shown that the combination of the Kobayashi-Maskawa CP-violation with the tree level $ΔS=2$ higgs exchange gives very large contribution to the CP-violating $ε$ parameter. It leads to the new strong constraint on the FCNC higgs mass, M>50- 100 TeV, enhanced by factor of the order $\sqrt{m_t/m_c}$. Being addressed to the supersymmetric left-right models, FCNC problem requires both right-handed scale and supersymmetric mass parameters be heavier than 50 TeV for $tanβ\sim 1$. The most relaxed case correspo…
Adding singlet neutrinos to the standard model spectrum in general gives rise to Z-induced flavor-changing neutral currents. We study the impact of these currents on matter-induced neutrino oscillations in the sun and in supernovae. While the effects for solar neutrinos are negligible, dramatic effects are possible for supernova neutrinos.
We derive the general resummed effective Lagrangian for Higgs-mediated flavour-changing neutral-current (FCNC) interactions in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), without resorting to particular assumptions that rely on the squark-mass or the quark-Yukawa structure of the theory. In our derivation we also include the possibility of explicit CP violation through the Cabibbo--Kobayashi--Maskawa mixing matrix and soft supersymmetry-breaking mass terms. The advantages of our resummed FCNC effective Lagrangian are explicitly demonstrated within the context of phenomenologically motiva…
If the underlying flavor symmetry is Abelian, quark mixings in $d_R$ sector are the most prominent. Such flavor violating effects can reveal itself through $\tilde d_R$ squark mixings if supersymmetry is realized in Nature. Quark-squark alignment is necessary to deal with $Δm_K$ and $ε_K$ constraints, but interestingly, with $m_{\tilde q}$, $m_{\tilde g} \sim$ TeV, the $\tilde d_R$ mixing effects are comparable to $B_d$ and $B_s$ mixings in the Standard Model, while $D^0$ mixing is tantalizingly close to some hints from data. CP phases in these mixings would therefore be deviant, and $| V_{td}…
Consequences of a specific class of two Higgs doublet models in which the Higgs induced tree level flavour changing neutral currents (FCNC) display minimal flavour violation (MFV) are considered. These FCNC are fixed in terms of the CKM matrix elements and the down quark masses. The minimal model in this category with only two Higgs doublets has no extra CP violating phases but such a phase can be induced by adding a complex singlet. Many of the theoretical predictions are similar to other MFV scenario. The FCNC contribute significantly to $B$ meson mixing and CP violation. Detailed numerical …
We consider the Minimal Gauge Mediated Model (MGMM) with either fundamental or antisymmetric messenger multiplets and study consequences of messenger-matter mixing. It is shown that constraints on relevant coupling constants and mixing parameters coming from the existing experimental limits on lepton flavor violation and FCNC processes allow a wide range of $\tanβ$ in MGMM with mixing.
Extensions of the MSSM generically feature gauge singlet Higgs bosons. These singlet Higgs bosons have tan(beta)-enhanced Yukawa couplings to down-type quarks and leptons at the one-loop level. We present an effective Lagrangian incorporating these Yukawa couplings and use it to study their effect on singlet Higgs boson phenomenology within both the mnSSM and NMSSM. It is found that the loop-induced couplings represent an appreciable effect for the singlet pseudoscalar in particular, and may dominate its decay modes in some regions of parameter space.
Singlet Higgs bosons present in extensions of the MSSM can have sizable Yukawa couplings to the b quark and the tau lepton for large values of tan(beta) at the 1-loop level. We present an effective Lagrangian which incorporates these tan(beta)-enhanced Yukawa couplings and which enables us to study their effect on singlet Higgs-boson phenomenology within the context of both the mnSSM and the NMSSM. In particular, we find that the loop-induced coupling can be a significant effect for the singlet pseudoscalar, and may dominate its decay modes. Further implications of the tan(beta)-enhanced Yukaw…
We study the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with Minimal Flavour Violation for the case of a large parameter tanbeta and arbitrary values of the supersymmetric mass parameters. We derive several resummation formulae for tanbeta-enhanced loop corrections, which were previously only known in the limit of supersymmetric masses far above the electroweak scale. Studying first the renormalisation-scheme dependence of the resummation formula for the bottom Yukawa coupling, we clarify the use of the sbottom mixing angle in the supersymmetric loop factor Delta_b. As a new feature, we find tan-be…
The large number of top quarks produced at the LHC and possible future hadron colliders allows to study rare decays of this particle. In many well motivated models of new physics, for example in non-minimal composite-Higgs models, the existence of scalar singlets can induce new flavor-violating top decays surpassing the Higgs contribution by orders of magnitude. We study the discovery prospects of rare top decays within such models and develop new search strategies to test these interactions in top pair-produced events at the LHC. We demonstrate that scales as large as $10$--$50$ TeV can be pr…
We show that the upper bound on the lightest Higgs mass in the MSSM is relaxed by introducing a singlet which couples to the Higgs fields, even at a large tan beta region, preferable for explaining the muon anomalous magnetic moment. In the models of a singlet extension, it is known that the upper bound is relaxed by a tree-level contribution, especially at small tan beta region. For large tan beta, however, the requirement for the perturbativity on the singlet-Higgs coupling up to the GUT scale prevents the lightest Higgs from obtaining a large tree-level mass. We construct an explicit UV com…
In light of the Higgs discovery and the nonobservation of sparticles at the LHC, we revisit the SUSY induced top quark flavor changing decay into the Higgs boson. We perform a scan over the relevant SUSY parameter space by considering the constraints from the Higgs mass measurement, the LHC search for SUSY, the vacuum stability, the precision electro-weak observables as well as $B \to X_s γ$. We have the following observations: (1) In the MSSM, the branching ratio of $ t \to c h$ can only reach $3.0\times10^{-6}$, which is about one order smaller than previous results obtained before the adven…
We investigate the potential effects of the scalar flavour changing neutral currents that are generated e.g. in supersymmetry with $\tanβ\gg1$ in the $b\to sl^+l^-$ transitions. Using the experimental upper limit on $BR(B^0_s\toμ^+μ^-)$ we place stringent model independent constraints on the impact these currents may have on the rates $BR(B\to X_sμ^+μ^-)$ and $BR(B\to Kμ^+μ^-)$. We find that in the first case, contrary to the claim made recently in the literature, the maximal potential effects are always smaller than the uncertainty of the Standard Model NNLO prediction, that is of order 5-15%…
We present a detailed discussion of the particle spectrum of the Non-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM), containing two Higgs doublets and a singlet, in the limit $\tanβ\simeq m_t/m_b$. This is compared with the corresponding particle spectrum of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). In this limit the singlet vacuum expectation value is forced to be large, of the order of $10$ TeV, and the singlet decouples from the lightest scalar Higgs boson and the neutralinos. With the exception of the lightest Higgs boson, the particle spectrum in the model turns out to be heavy. Th…
I review recent progress in theoretical calculations related to the CKM unitarity triangle. After briefly discussing hints for new physics in B_d-B_d-bar mixing and B_s-B_s-bar mixing I present three topics of MSSM flavor physics: First I discuss new tan-beta-enhanced radiative corrections to flavor-changing neutral current (FCNC) amplitudes which go beyond the familiar Higgs-mediated FCNC diagrams and may enhance the mixing-induced CP asymmetry in B_d -> phi K_S. The second topic is a reappraisal of the idea that flavor violation originates from the soft supersymmetry-breaking terms. Finally …
We present a general analysis of extensions of the Standard Model which satisfy the criterion of Minimal Flavour Violation (MFV). We define this general framework by constructing a low-energy effective theory containing the Standard Model fields, with one or two Higgs doublets and, as the only source of SU(3)^5 flavour symmetry breaking, the background values of fields transforming under the flavour group as the ordinary Yukawa couplings. We analyse present bounds on the effective scale of dimension-six operators, which range between 1 and 10 TeV, with the most stringent constraints imposed by…
We investigate the effects of the radiatively-generated tan beta-enhanced Higgs-singlet Yukawa couplings on the decay $Υ\to γA_1$ in the NMSSM, where $A_1$ is the lightest CP-odd scalar. This radiative coupling is found to dominate in the case of a highly singlet Higgs pseudoscalar. The branching ratio for the production of such a particle is shown to be within a few orders of magnitude of current experimental constraints across a significant region of parameter space. This represents a potentially observable signal for experiments at present B-factories.
We consider the supersymmetric extension of the standard model with an additional singlet $S$, the Non-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM), in the limit $\tanβ\simeq m_t/m_b$. We embed this model in a supergravity framework with universal boundary conditions and analyze the renormalization group improved tree-level potential. We examine the relationship between this model and the minimial supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), and discuss the novel connections between the two when $\tanβ$ is large. Strong correlations between the free parameters of the nonminimal model are found and t…
We study the effect of the FCNC on rare $B$ decays in the beyond standard model with vector like singlet quarks. It has been shown that $b \rightarrow s γ$ does not receive sizable contribution compared with that of the standard model while $b \rightarrow d γ$, $b \rightarrow s(d) l^+ l^-$, can be changed from the predictions of the standard model.
We present a comprehensive analysis of the Non-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) for large values of $\tanβ$, the ratio of the vacuum expectation values of the two Higgs doublets, which arise when we impose the constraint of the unification of Yukawa couplings in the model. In this limit we show that the vacuum expectation value of the singlet is forced to be large, of the order of $10$ TeV. The singlet decouples from the lightest CP-even neutral Higgs boson and the neutralinos. We compare our results with the corresponding particle spectrum of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard M…
It is pointed out that mixing effects in the CP-even scalar sector of the NMSSM can give 6-8 GeV correction to the SM-like Higgs mass in moderate or large $\tanβ$ regions with a small value of the singlet-higgs-higgs superfields coupling $λ\sim\mathcal{O}(0.1)$. This effect comes mainly from the mixing of the SM-like Higgs with lighter singlet. In the same parameter range, the mixing of the heavy doublet Higgs with the singlet may strongly modify the couplings of the singlet-like and the 125 GeV scalars. Firstly, the LEP bounds on a light singlet can be evaded for a large range of its masses. …
We consider the case of the Dark Two Higgs Doublet Model (D2HDM) where a $U(1)'$ symmetry group and an extra Higgs doublet are added to the Standard Model. This model leads to a gauge singlet particle as an interesting Dark Matter (DM) candidate. We obtain phenomenological constraints to the parameter space of the model considering the one necessary to produce the correct density of thermal relic dark matter $Ωh^2$. We find a relation between the masses of the DM matter candidate $m_S$ and $m_{Z'}$ that satisfy the relic density for given values of $\tanβ$.
Most of the existing analyses of FCNC processes in the 331 models, based on the gauge group SU(3)_C x SU(3)_L x U(1)_X, take only into account tree-level exchanges of a new heavy neutral gauge boson Z'. However due to the Z-Z' mixing also corresponding contributions from Z boson are present that are usually neglected. We calculate the impact of these contributions on Delta F=2 processes and rare K, B_s and B_d decays for different values of a parameter beta, which distinguishes between various 331 models and for different fermion representations under the SU(3)_L group. We find a general expre…
We present a general analysis of B_{s,d}-> l^+ l^- and K_L -> l^+ l^- decays in supersymmetric models with non-minimal sources of flavour mixing. In spite of the existing constraints on off-diagonal squark mass terms, these modes could still receive sizeable corrections, mainly because of Higgs-mediated FCNCs arising at large tan(beta). The severe limits on scenarios with large tan(beta) and non-negligible {tilde d}^i_{R(L)}-{d-tilde}^j_{R(L)} mixing imposed by the present experimental bounds on these modes and Delta B=2 observables are discussed in detail. In particular, we show that scalar-c…
A substantial contribution to the SM-like Higgs mass may come from the mixing with the lightest singlet-dominated scalar in NMSSM for moderate or large values of $\tanβ$ [1]. The LSP neutralino in this model may also contain the singlet component - singlino. In this work we analyze the direct detection cross section for a Higgsino-singlino LSP with the emphasis on possible direct detection blind spots in the parameter space. Correlations between the LSP properties and the effects in the Higgs sector coming from the mixing are also discussed.
Additional sources of CP violation in the MSSM may affect B-meson mixings and decays, even in scenarios with minimal flavour violation (MFV). We formulate the maximally CP-violating and minimally flavour-violating (MCPMFV) variant of the MSSM, which has 19 parameters, including 6 phases that violate CP. We then develop a manifestly flavour-covariant effective Lagrangian formalism for calculating Higgs-mediated FCNC observables in the MSSM at large tan(beta), and analyze within the MCPMFV framework FCNC and other processes involving B mesons. We include a new class of dominant subleading contri…
In order to raise the Higgs mass up to 125 GeV and relieve the fine-tuning associated with the heavy s-top mass in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), we propose a new singlet extension of the MSSM. In this scenario, the additional Higgs mass is radiatively generated also in a hidden sector, and the effect is tansmitted to the Higgs through a messenger field. The Higgs mass can be efficiently increased by the parameters of the superpotential as in the extra matter scenario, but free from the constraints on extra colored matter fields by the LHC experiments. As a result, the tunin…
Grand unified theories open the possibility to transfer the neutrino mixing matrix U_PMNS to the quark sector. This is accomplished in a controlled way in a supersymmetric grand-unified model proposed by Chang, Masiero and Murayama (CMM model) where the atmospheric neutrino mixing angle induces large new b -> s and tau -> mu transitions. Relating the supersymmetric low-energy parameters to seven new parameters a_0, m_0^2, m_tilde{g}, D, xi, tan beta and arg(mu) of this SO(10) model, we perform a correlated study of several flavour-changing neutral current (FCNC) processes. The CMM model can se…
We analyze CP violation and Flavor Changing effects in a general Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model with arbitrary non-universal soft-breaking terms. We show that, in this conditions, large FCNC effects are naturally expected in the Kaon system, even in the absence of quark-squark flavor misalignment. On the other hand, the B system is only sensitive to new supersymmetric contributions if the non-universality implies, not only different soft term for the three generations but also the presence of a quark-squark misalignment much larger that the corresponding CKM mixing. The…
Relatively light stops in gauge mediation models are usually made compatible with the Higgs mass of 125 GeV by introducing direct Higgs-messenger couplings. We show that such couplings are not necessary in a simple and predictive model that combines minimal gauge mediation and the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model (NMSSM). We show that one can obtain a 125 GeV Standard Model-like Higgs boson with stops as light as 1.1 TeV, thanks to the mixing of the Higgs with a singlet state at ${\cal O}(90-100)$ GeV that can explain the LEP excess. In this scenario the singlet-higgs-higgs superf…
We analyze explicit CP violation in the Higgs sector of the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model which contains an additional gauge singlet field N. It is shown that there is no mixing among scalar and pseudoscalar Higgs fields in the two Higgs doublets, and scalar-pseudoscalar mixings could exist between two Higgs doublets and the singlet N, and between N itself. CP symmetry is conserved in the extreme limits of < N > >> v, < N > << v, and tan beta >> 1. In the region of < N > = O(v) and tan beta = O(1), large scalar-pseudoscalar mixings are realized, and this effect can reduce the l…
We explore the effects of Higgs mixing in the general next-to-minimal supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM). Extended to include a gauge singlet, the Higgs sector can naturally explain the observed Higgs boson mass in TeV scale supersymmetry without invoking large stop mixing. This is particularly the case when the singlet scalar is light so that singlet-doublet mixing increases the mass of the SM-like Higgs boson. In such a case the Higgs mixing has interesting implications following from the fact that the higgsino mass parameter and the singlet coupling to Higgs bilinear crucially depend on …
We study possible observational effects of scalar dark matter, the darkon D, in Higgs h and top quark t decay processes, h->DD and t->cDD in the minimal Standard Model (SM) and its two Higgs doublet model (THDM) extension supplemented with a SM singlet darkon scalar field D. We find that the darkon D can have a mass in the range of sub-GeV to several tens of GeV, interesting for LHC and ILC colliders, to produce the required dark matter relic density. In the SM with a darkon, t->cDD only occurs at loop level giving a very small rate, while the rate for Higgs decay h->DD can be large. In THDM I…
In the framework of type-II two-Higgs-doublet model with a scalar dark matter ($S$), we examine the wrong sign Yukawa coupling of the 125 GeV Higgs which is the only portal between the dark matter and SM sectors. After imposing the constraints from the Higgs searches at the LHC and dark matter experiments, we obtain some interesting observables: (i) The theory, oblique parameters, and the Higgs searches at the LHC can impose stringent constraints on $\tanβ$ in the case of the wrong sign Yukawa coupling of the 125 GeV Higgs. For example, for $m_H=600$ GeV and 140 GeV $<m_A<200$ GeV, $\tanβ$ is …
A non-universal scalar mass supergravity type of model is explored where the first two generation of scalars and the third generation of sleptons may be very massive. Lighter or vanishing third generation of squarks as well as Higgs scalars at the unification scale cause the radiative electroweak symmetry breaking constraint to be less prohibitive. Thus, both FCNC/CP-violation problems as well as the naturalness problem are within control. We identify a large slepton mass effect in the RGE of $m_{H_D}^2$ (for the down type of Higgs) that may turn the later negative at the electroweak scale eve…
I define the Standard Supersymmetric Model (SSM) as the minimal supersymmetric extension ofthe Standard Model with gauge coupling unification and universal soft supersymmetry breaking at the unification scale. This well-defined model has a five-dimensional space of unknown parameters ($m_t, \tanβ, m_{1/2}, m_0, A$). I outline the top-down and bottom-up methods of solving this model. Thresholds may be treated either by dropping heavy particles from the RGE's or by considering loop corrections to the vacuum energy. Substantial regions of the parameter space are consistent with all experimental c…
We study a region in the NMSSM parameter space in which the mass of the SM-like Higgs boson is uplifted by ~4-17 GeV, allowing for stop masses and |A_t| <= 1 TeV alleviating the little fine tuning problem of the MSSM. An uplift of the mass of the SM-like Higgs boson is possible in two distinct regions in the NMSSM parameter space: Either for large lambda and small tan(beta) or, through singlet-doublet mixing, for small lambda and large tan(beta). For a mostly singlet-like Higgs state H_S with a mass below 125 GeV we investigate possible direct or indirect search channels at the run II of the L…
We investigate a supersymmetric extension of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), called the TNMSSM, containing a $SU(2)$ Higgs triplet $(\hat{T})$ of $Y=0$ hypercharge and a singlet superfields $(\hat{S})$ in the corresponding superpotential. The model can be viewed, equivalently, as an extension of the NMSSM with the addition of a $\hat{T}-\hat{S}$ interaction and of an extra coupling of the triplet to the two Higgs doublets of the NMSSM. In this scenario the Higgs particle spectrum at tree-level gets additional mass contributions from the triplet and singlet scalar components r…
Recent discovery of the SM-like Higgs boson with $m_h\simeq 125$ GeV motivates an extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), which involves a singlet Higgs superfield with a sizable Yukawa coupling to the doublet Higgs superfields. We examine such singlet-extended SUSY models with a Peccei-Quinn (PQ) symmetry that originates from an anomalous $U(1)_A$ gauge symmetry. We focus on the specific scheme that the PQ symmetry is spontaneously broken at an intermediate scale $v_{\rm PQ}\sim \sqrt{m_{\rm SUSY}M_{\rm Pl}}$ by an interplay between Planck scale suppressed operators and…
We study the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model (NMSSM) with the TeV scale mirage mediation, which is known as a solution for the little hierarchy problem in supersymmetry. Our previous study showed that 125 GeV Higgs boson is realized with O(10) % fine-tuning for 1.5 TeV gluino (1 TeV stop) mass. The $μ$ term could be as large as 500 GeV without sacrificing the fine-tuning thanks to a cancellation mechanism. The singlet-doublet mixing is suppressed by $\tanβ$. In this paper, we further extend this analysis. We argue that approximate scale symmetries play a role behind the suppressi…
We propose an electroweak model which is compatible with the UV insensitive anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking. The model is an extension of the NMSSM by adding vector-like matter fields which can drive the soft scalar masses of the singlet Higgs field negative and the successful electroweak symmetry breaking is achieved. Viable parameter regions are found to preserve perturbativity of all the coupling constants up to the Planck scale. With this success, the model becomes a perfect candidate of physics beyond the standard model without the FCNC and CP problem. The cosmology is also quite …
We describe the phenomenology of the flavour changing neutral current sector of a supersymmetric model, invariant under the T' discrete flavour group. This model has been proposed in Ref.[1] and describes realistic leptonic and hadronic masses and mixings and predicts the amount of flavour changing in terms of the small flavour breaking parameter u in [0.007, 0.05]. For small values of u, the model almost reduces to the MSUGRA framework, while sizable deviations from MSUGRA can be, instead, observed when larger values of u and tan(beta) are considered. We analyse in detail the T' BR(mu --> e g…
We study the Higgs phenomenology in the Peccei-Quinn invariant NMSSM (PQ-NMSSM) where the low energy mass parameters of the singlet superfield are induced by a spontaneous breakdown of the Peccei-Quinn symmetry. In the generic NMSSM, scalar mixing among CP-even Higgs bosons is constrained by the observed properties of the SM-like Higgs boson, as well as by the LEP bound on the chargino mass and the perturbativity bound on the singlet Yukawa coupling. In the minimal PQ-NMSSM, scalar mixing is further constrained due to the presence of a light singlino-like neutralino. It is noticed that the $2σ…
The Higgs sectors of supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model have two doublets in the minimal version (MSSM), and two doublets plus a singlet in two others: with (UMSSM) and without (NMSSM) an extra U(1)'. A very concise comparison of these three models is possible if we assume that the singlet has a somewhat larger breaking scale compared to the electroweak scale. In that case, the UMSSM and the NMSSM become effectively two-Higgs-doublet models (THDM), like the MSSM. As expected, the mass of the lightest CP-even neutral Higgs boson has an upper bound in each case. We find that in the …
The sensitivity of the ATLAS detector to the discovery of a heavy charged Higgs boson is presented. Assuming a heavy SUSY spectrum, the most promising channels above the top quark mass are $H^\pm\to tb$ and $H^\pm\toτ^\pmν_τ$ which provide coverage in the low and high $\tanβ$ regions up to $\sim 600$ GeV. The achievable precisions on the charged Higgs mass and $\tanβ$ determination are also discussed. The $H^\pm\to W^\pm h^0$ channel, though restricted to a small MSSM parameter space, shows a viable signal in NMSSM where the parameter space is less constrained. The observation of the channel $…
We discuss the discovery reach of LEP2 for the Higgs sector of a general extension of the MSSM including a single gauge singlet field. This change introduces a new quartic Higgs boson self-coupling which can increase the masses of the CP-even states, and also allows mixing between singlet and non-singlet states which can reduce the couplings of the mass eigenstates to the $Z$. The lightest CP-even Higgs boson is bounded by a parameter $Λ$ which takes a maximum value $Λ_{max}\approx 136-146$ GeV for top mass $150-195$ GeV. We generalise the discussion of the bound to include the entire CP-even …
We point out that present experimental limits from searches for neutral Higgs bosons at LEP already imply stringent lower bounds on the mass of the charged Higgs boson in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM); these bounds are especially severe for low values of \tanb ($\tanb \leq 3$), where the $H^+ \bar{t} b$ coupling is large. However, these indirect constraints are much weaker in simple extensions of the MSSM Higgs sector involving the introduction of an extra U(1) gauge group or an extra $SU(2) \times U(1)_Y$ Higgs singlet field; in the latter case charged Higgs bosons can even…
Lepton flavour violation has been proposed as a significant test of supersymmetric unification. Here we show that such signals are also a generic feature of supersymmetric string unified models in which there is no simple unified gauge group. In realistic models of this kind which involve third family Yukawa unification and large values of $\tan β$, there are generally heavy right-handed (singlet) neutrinos of intermediate mass $M_ν$, whose couplings violate lepton flavour. To illustrate these effects we calculate the rates for $μ\to e γ$ and $τ\to μgamma$ in the minimal supersymmetric $SU(4)\…
We introduce one pair of inert Higgs doublets {H_d, H_u} and singlets {N^c, N}, and consider their couplings with the Higgs doublets of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), W \supset y_N N^c h_u H_d + y_N' N h_d H_u. We assign extra U(1)_{Z'} gauge charges only to the extra vector-like superfields, and so all the MSSM superfields remain neutral under the new U(1)_{Z'}. They can be an extension of the "λterm," W \supset λS h_u h_d in the next-to-MSSM (NMSSM). Due to the U(1)_{Z'}, the maximally allowed low energy value of y_N can be lifted up to 0.85, avoiding a Landau-pole (LP) be…
We consider a solution to the mu problem in the context of Non-Minimal Gauge Mediation with two Singlets and Low-Scale Messengers. This solution reduces tuning associated with the "Little Hierarchy" problem by permitting a naturally small mu term (100-300 GeV) due to small mixing between the Singlets. The smallness of mu also relies crucially on compressing the Gauge Mediated sparticle spectrum resulting in 330-400 GeV squarks. In addition to a small mu term, the theory achieves a Higgs mass > 114.4 GeV through a large Higgs quartic coupling when tanbeta ~ 1.5. The vacua studied are globally s…
This paper investigates the impact of the recent LHC constraints on the Higgs sector in the semi-constrained version of the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. Our analysis focuses on the parameter space for which the value of the Higgs doublet-singlet coupling, $λ$, is large as possible, while the ratio between the vacuum expectation values of the two Higgs doublets, $\tanβ$, is small as possible. Under the current constraints, we present the possible fermionic decay channels and reduced cross-section into fermions final states for the lightest neutral Higgs bosons in the NMSSM, $(…
